Will be back again and a hundred times more. Before coming, we were on a mission to find the tastiest biggest, Croque Monsieur and Madame for the most affordable price. We're students on a budget ya know. We did a lot of research on Yelp and finally stumbled upon this cafe. Best decision ever. My friend and I planned on going for Valentines Day. We didn't make a reservation simply walked in and was immediately seated upstairs. The waiter allowed us to sit anywhere we liked. Cozy, relaxing, Parisian the restaurant makes you feel like you're part of a french family. There are multiple levels and we got to sit at the top overlooking the main lobby. Our waiter was a tall beautiful looking french man who looked like he could advertise for Malboro. He spoke English with a great french accent and a deep voice and was our favorite. He accommodated us throughout the night with his fun personality. Allowed us to switch out the salad for fries, offered to take pictures of us and made sure we were enjoying our food. Everything you would expect if you want American service with a French personality. The croque came and they were Huge!!! For 8.50 euro, it can't get any better. We couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces. High quality, devious and when we looked at other peoples portions ( from Aeriel view of course) they were large and looked delicious too. Ultimately great place for a higher end affordable dinner/brunch/place to just sit drink/ talk with friends Definitely made our Valentines Day a spectacular. Tl;dr: food was good (especially the tiramisu), service was meh... 3.5 stars. We were looking for a restaurant on a Sunday evening, and while everywhere else seemed to have long lines that required at least an hour wait this place looked good and had no wait. We were seated on the side in a very cramped place. The chairs were pushed back as much as possible (walls and doors behind us) and it was uncomfortable to sit in a tiny place. The service was okay...the waiters were not too attentive. The food was above average though. We ordered lamb chops, tuna steak, and tiramisu. The lamb and tuna were seasoned well and cooked exactly to order (medium rare tuna steak, medium lamb). The ratatouille that came with our dishes was delicious, and the baguettes that came with our meal were a delight, definitely some of the better breads we've had with our meal. It wasn't too hard or crispy on the outside, and the inside was soft and fluffy. Finally, the tiramisu was amazing!!!! What an amazing place...We went there based on Yelp reviews and had to come back - it was just so good! The food is fresh and delicious! We had lamb chops, onion soup, wine and dessert (mousse is unbelievable) on our first visit. The second time (today) we came in a bit earlier (around 5:00pm) and wanted to order a plate of cold cuts and pate, but our waiter was nice to tell us it was too much, and he was right! My friend and I had been hanging out at Jardin de Luxembourg and found ourselves super hungry on a Sunday afternoon. A bunch of places were closed, but luckily, Au Petit Suisse was open. We grabbed a seat outside (facing the street of course for some excellent people watching). I ordered the Salad Cantou and my friend had the Croque Madame. My salad is yummy, though definitely not what I expected. It was described as having cheese, potatoes, and ham on it in addition to vegetables, but it was a mountain of thin, round fries and a few big strips of cheese and ham. The greens were there, but the proportions totally threw me off. It was still yummy though. I ended up eating everything but the fries, and then my friend and I dipped the fries in ketchup and ended up devouring them. Definitely a filling meal. My husband and I came here twice while in Paris. The food was good but what we really liked was the desserts! Best tiramisu ever! We stopped here for lunch after a visit to the Jardin de Luxembourg. We both had the magret de canard, which came with pommes frites. The duck was kind of tough, but came with a delicious sauce a l'orange. The ardoise listed the wines on offer, with good macon and chardonnay wines at various portions starting around 4E . We opted to get cheese from the fromagerie shop next door for dessert, but the desserts here looked good (with large portion sizes). The staff were accommodating when we requested to switch tables to get more of a breeze, as there was no climitisation and it was a hot day. This was hands down my best dining experience in Paris. The food, the service, and even the crowd was great. Actually..come to think of it this restaurant sums up my Paris experience perfectly. The French do have a careless/carefree mindset to them..but its not rude. Not to mention they are all pretty damn sexy too. We americans are just being jealous. And then we come to the service..I ate out my entire time here and not ONE place had bad service (especially Au Petit)..they were all phenomenal. People are just too impatient..you want your food in 3 minutes...sit and drink a glass of wine and talk to your friend for a bit before stuffing your face. Its enjoyable, trust me. So what did we eat? I had the lamb with ratatouille..perfectly cooked lamb and delicious ratatouille. Best meal of my trip. Very nice portion size too. My friend had a duck dish with veggies and potato wedges. I tried a bit of the duck and it also was perfectly cooked. For desert? We walked into this place for dinner one rainy evening, as we sat down I was concerned that Yelp may finally have steered us wrong. The menu is very limited and the place itself is cramped and a bit tattered around the edges. I was concerned that all of the positive reviews had been in error. 30 minutes later after the place filled up with locals and the energy level came up I realized I was wrong. This is a terrific neighborhood kind of place, with charming service, and lovely, if basic, food. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. As mentioned the menu is full of Parisian classics but is rather limited. Lamb Chops, Steak Frites, etc. It's definitely light on the seafood and non-meat options, so be aware. I had the lamb chops which were tender, well seasoned, and accompanied by exceptionally good Ratatouille. The kids had Steak Frites which was excellent and the Missus had Steak Tartare which she inhaled after initially being concerned that she had no option that did not involve meat. All was well. Also worth noting was the Tiramisu, which was really superior. Served in a mason jar (or whatever a mason jar is called in France) it was super yummy. My son, who fancies himself a Tiramisu expert declared it to be the "best." I'm not sure about that, but it was pretty damn good. Once the place filled up it had a lovely, warm, neighborhood vibe and made for some great people watching. I was pleased we were here as it was a nice antidote to the typical higher-end, more detatched places we'd been dining at during our tour. But let's be clear on what you'll get here - it's a lovely, warm neighborhood Brasserie turning out solid food. One of our favorite restaurants in Paris. This is a cute place across the street from Luxembourg with basic decor. We came for lunch and ordered the lamb with ratatouille and the L'Assiette Italienne (prosciutto, cantaloupe, mozzarella cheese salad). We were very pleased with each dish. It was our first time having ratatouille so we can't compare with anything else but needless to say we found it delicious. The service was prompt and friendly (for Paris). We sat outdoors on the terrace and the table was a bit small, but I guess that's French proportions? All around us I saw people ordering bottles of Rose. There was a large group of chic young adult Frenchies dining next to us so this is not a tourist trap. I had a hard time reviewing this place. The location is perfect, a few steps away from the Luxemborg gardens/palace and walking distance from the Sorbonne. To top it off, Paris decided to throw in beautiful weather so that we could sun ourselves in the patio while we sipped our beers. So why the less than the ideal rating. Everything is surprisingly generously sized here! The charcuterie platters or salads are easily shared between two. I appreciate that they don't gouge you on prices to take advantage of their prime location facing Jardin du Luxembourg. If you forget to pack a picnic for the park, I highly recommend crossing the street to relax on the terrasse here. We dropped by for dinner on a sunny early evening. We were greeted promptly by a friendly fellow and seated immediately. We sat inside on their second level of seating that offered us an interesting voyeuristic view of the diners below and out front. This brasserie is very cool looking. It has a lot of character and is a really nice place to have a drink or a meal. Our server, a deeeeep voiced gentleman, was very friendly and helpful. We chose this brasserie because we notice that they had ratatouille. It is served as a side with a few of their dishes. I just love Yelp. I'm not sure I've been steered wrong yet. Dined here for dinner and though it wasn't an over the top experience it was a nice meal in an authentic French Brassiere. I've got food allergies and was somewhat nervous about dining in sit down establishments while in Paris. Because of my allergies and the language barrier I didn't always get to order my first choice when we dined out- better safe than sorry. This place worked out great because my sister was able to order a great dish, and I was able to order a "safe" dish and both of us were very happy. I had the croque-campagnard, and subbed the salad for green beans. My sister had the duck, which like another reviewer mentioned, tasted like a steak!! She said it was delicious. Our meals in Paris keep getting better. This was a great value--generous portions, value driven wines, and solid service. We left with plenty of Euros in our pocket for the wine bar, Au Pere Lois, just up the block. Started w/a Kir Royal and a Kir Savangion. Then the four- cheese cheese plate. Co-pilot had the beef bourgingon (one of today's plat du jour) and i had the tornadoes of duck au poivee with green beans (perfect) and round frites. Went to this place in early August while on vacation in Paris - had found it via a Google search for the best croque madame.
