Lately, I have been carrying a lot of my belongings with me such as iPhone, wallet (credit cards and cash money), iPad, car and house keys, plus my USA passport, which helps to avoid misunderstandings with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). So, these are a lot of things to stove in my pants (except the iPad, which I used to leave it in the car) ; hence, I purchased a small day pack, which is way smaller than a school backpack. This bag allows me the comfort of taking all my items with me at a moments notice, just like women do! However, women's daily pack are called handbags and they are similar if not bigger than a man's daily pack, and I bet no-one would dare to ask a woman to check their handbag at the front-desk of a hardware store! Anyway, I have never had an issue entering any store with my small daypack until today. I went to the ACE store near my house and as soon as I walked in the store a sharp voice demanded that I check my daily pack at the front desk. At first, I could not understand why is this person questioning my integrity and no even 30 seconds have gone by when another ACE store person, a large man joined in the argument and said that it was a store policy and that I needed to check "the back pack" at front or else leave the store. First of all, it is not a back-pack, but a smaller bag; secondly, store policies should be displayed at key touchpoints along the customer's journey into the store to ensure transparency and prevent disputes. Anyway, I have been coming to ACE and as a home owner, I have made lots of home improvement purchases at this ACE store which used to be on Nevada St before, and I have not been able to find such policy display any were on their front doors. I don't mind store clerks doing their job, but I do mind when they questioned my integrity. Hence, ACE has lost my patronage and moving forward I will rather drive an extra 1 mile to the HomeDepot. read more

This the largest ACE Hardware store that I've ever seen. My good friend was an instrumental part of this store transfer and set-up from its former location. This new location is over twice the size of the former space. The year-long project shows in its highly organized, easy-to-shop aisles. What an awesome store for the residents of Auburn. read more

DO NOT BUY STIHL FROM ACE ! We bought a large gas powered Stihl weed whacker from this ACE. They assembled it incorrectly, even the handlebars were put on backwards. The assembly was so poor that it wouldn't 'whack' (no pun intended). Further, they did not provide instruction nor all of the paperwork required by Stihl. We ended up taking the new equipment to AUBURN SAW an authorized Stihl dealer, who reassembled it, instructed us, and provided additional materials. All without charge. Great people! read more

We used to go to the old Ace Hardware location all the time, but since they moved to the new one, the service has gotten terrible! We're not sure what has happened. The store is nice and spacious now with lots of products, but we've been ignored several times just waiting patiently for someone to help us at the paint area or other parts of the store. We don't mind that employees are having a conversation, but if they don't even acknowledge you or say we'll be right with you that's really unprofessional. We also haven't found the service people very nice or particularly helpful. One day in the past week my wife waited for a long time, was ignored, went to the front desk to get help, they called someone and he took her back to the same people that had ignored her. The ladies at the registers are usually nice though.Unfortunately, we think we're going back to Home Depot. read more

I stopped by our local Ace today to inquire if they had any paint sticks/stirrers for sale, as I needed 20 for a project I'm working on. The gentleman counted out 20 sticks, put them in a bag and did not charge me for them! I've always loved our little town's Ace...it feels like you've gone back in time. Even though this a chain store, it is still local. You'll know that the first time you walk through the door and are greeted with the friendly face at the register (currently masked). Just walk around with a lost look on your face and someone is for sure going to ask if you need any help. I've never had to look long for someone, like I do at the big box competition. read more

Trying to return a couple of aluminum reducers 4" to 3", part #45338 bought at the Roseville Ace store in Auburn store. Clerk indicates "that they don't accept other store returns". I called corporate number and they indicated otherwise, even confirmed with the store, clerk appears to be exercising discriminatory practice and a selective return policy. read more

Yesterday I was attemping to change the gasketing on my wood burning stove. When I unscrewed a screw that holds the glass. The screw broke and got jammed. I thought that I was out of luck and that I needed to buy an entire new piece. I decided to bring the piece into the ace hardware in auburn ca. When I did one of the employees by the name of Vader brought the piece too their back and had to work on it for a half hour and was able to get the screw out. I offered to pay him and he said that he was happy that he could help and didn't want any money. Not only did he go out of his way free of charge. He saved me at least a couple hundred dollars to replace the piece. My experience at this store is night and day difference compared to home depot where some of the staff looks irritated when you ask for help. read more

Working on home projects, had to go back here several times for parts and tools. I now love this place! The gals behind the counter where fun and hilarious and actually remembered us from the first time through. I think their names were Shannon and Amy, down to earth friendly, approachable and looked to be loving their job. There were plen1ty of people around to help us find what we needed. I'm done with big box stores. I'm always going here first to hopefully avoid the big box stores, where no one knows you, no one cares, workers hide and avoid eye contact and no one looks to be happy with their job. read more

I had a horrible experience at the local Auburn Home Depot. Decided to give Ace Hardware a try. Not only was it better but I was IMPRESSED by how much it was better! I rented a chainsaw, a lady with glasses / a tattoo helped us. I wish I got her name because she was so helpful & Awesome! Nort was a name a did catch. He helped get the chainsaw out of the back with the awesome lady. He set me up with a gas can oil and everything offered to even teach me how to use it! I ended up needing a new blade a couple hours later, went back to Ace. That awesome Nort and another Male worker slapped a new one on there for me no problem so I could get back to work. I REALLY cannot say how much thier nice natured true customer service meant to me after a hard couple days of work, and a horrible experience else where. I saw a review on here that the Ace Hardware employees in Auburn don't enforce the mask mandate, and that claim has no basis and is not factual. We love going to different Ace Hardware stores and when we moved to Auburn that is one of the first things we did - go to the Auburn store. We were disappointed then and upon our return 5 years later - even more disappointed. 1. MASKS ARE STILL REQUIRED INDOORS IN CA! Telling people as they enter that they are not is a LIE! 2. Listening to an unmasked "associate" spew ridiculous BS about vaccines is a crazy approach for any business to take. What is the matter with you? Half the associates working there still wore masks. That idiot wasn't just alienating customers - but your own staff too! Who is managing these people? Do you even care that a loudmouth idiot is spewing lies to potential customers? I literally left the basket full of items I was going to buy and fled. Never stepping in your store again. Since I refuse to go to Home Depot I'll drive to Lake of The Pines or Meadow Vista if I need something. read more

I just left this place because of a clerk who kept bringing in customers to the aisle I was in and literally putting him, me and her shoulder to shoulder during social distancing rules. Seriously, WTF? I moved three times, trying to patiently wait for someone else to move from the hardware I was looking for and EACH TIME this clerk and customer just crowded in. Do you people not understand social distancing? Do you deny the concept of pandemic? I'm done with you.
