Problem with billing.. Asked for social security number on the phone, as well as Medi-Cal number, which is weird, because we've NEVER had Medi-Cal, we have Medicare. They should have that info on file. They're either using new people for billing, or just don't know what their doing. Be careful. We have always been told NOT to give away medical numbers on the phone, but they asked, which we thought unusual. Will take the info over in person, let them make the copies, and sign for the info today. *************************** UPDATE: The Dr called and he knew exactly how to bill, and knew we were correct in questioning the billing issue, so "all's well that ends well"! We hope that he supports his front end staff in some additional training, because they are the people that can cause a problem in keeping their customers happy. read more

If interested in paying far too much (even with insurance) and waiting a couple months to get your eyeglasses, then go here. Have been going there for several years (should have left long ago) and have always had the same long drawn out experience. This time took the cake. Waiting over a month, decided to pop in only to find out glasses had been there a couple weeks. No notification. Mgr calls back after a complaint was made - blames the lack of notification on us. Hands down, the best I've been to in Auburn. For the past few years I've been dissatisfied with other offices in the area. Auburn Family Optometry does not disappoint. From my first call To set an appointment, to my follow up contact appointment with Nadia. Every single team member makes you feel welcomed, important, listened too and more. Dr. Jason Allgeier was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and professional. He addressed all of my issues and concerns. Nadia helped me find the perfect pair of glasses, sunglasses along with getting me scheduled for a contact consultation (which was booked for the next day!) Upon return the next day for my contact consultant, Nadia was incredible. It was a full on mini contact 101 class. From handling etiquette, insert and removal techniques and more. I was amazed with how easy she was to work with. She also scheduled me for a one week follow up, sent me home with trial lenses to "work with" and off I went. Their explanation of my benefits and how to beat maximize them was incredibly helpful. We found our new home for eye care. I will be making an appointment for the rest of my family. I was here the other day and the staff is horrible. The woman who is pregnant and larger set white with brown hair was very very rude. They let an older GROWN man yell at a young lady. You people are disgusting. They let their costumers be bullied and HARASSED by other customers. They also dilated my eyes and didn't give me sun glasses or any warning. Very unprofessional. I provided my vision insurance to the receptionist so I can make a vision appointment. She verified my insurance online and said that I had no coverage. I faxed over my insurance info to this office. Meanwhile, I contacted my insurance and verified that my insurance was active. It was. I was told 3 times by the staff that my insurance was not valid. I contacted my insurance 3 times and my insurance was active. I spoke to the girl at this office and she told me that since she verified the insurance and was told that I had none I would have to pay for my exam. I asked if she could call the insurance instead of just checking online. She refused. I cancelled my appointment. Made an appointment with Eye Glass World. Eye Glass World was able to verify my insurance, no problem. Auburn Family Optometry's staff is very incompetent. Refusing to verify insurance by calling the insurance. All my eye work plus two pairs of glasses that I bought was about $700 and that was my portion. They missed out on a great money maker such as myself. Pretty pissed and disgusted with this type of service. Horrible to the patient. Will never go there and will let everyone know the treatment that I received. read more

I get so annoyed every time I come back here because they never see me anywhere near the time I've scheduled my appointment. I've been here 50 minutes not even a person has come in to explain/apologize for my long wait. Once again - they blew me away. My husband and I needed to come in and get the glasses that we ordered. And only 2 weeks ago - they are already in! The night before I was experiencing some issues with my eye. One of my contacts tore and I didn't realize it. My began to water and my vision began to blur. The moment we walked in to the office Haley's smile reassured me once we picked up our glasses she would look to see about getting me in to see Doctor Goodrich. We both picked up our glasses and would have been in and out and within 20 minutes until Brandon whisked me away to do an initial exam on my eyes and determine the issue. No notice, just took me in - SAY WHAT! He did a few tests and Im still blown away with his knowledge. I learn something every time I leave there. Dr. Goodrich came in - did some more tests and I left there with drops in hand and a plan, along with a follow-up appointment next week to make sure they are getting better. This office is so amazing - I feel as though I should be tipping them as I leave. Fun Fact? All contacts let a different amount of air in. Great service now and hopefully for years to come! Am new to the area so finding new providers is key! This is my first visit to Auburn Family Optometry, and am glad other yelpers got them right :-) Quick appointment call just the day before, breeze through check-in and within 7 mins of arriving, I was in eye testing with a technician. Met Dr. Coen shortly thereafter who was very kind, caring and easy to talk to. She asked me what my was my goal for the visit and I told her I wanted new glasses to work use. She did a thorough exam and soon I was picking new glasses with their specialist. No hassle, no pushy treatments or expensive non-essential add-ons. Just plain great service, friendly staff, got what I needed and done! Looking forward to continued great service to years to come...and my new glasses in the next week :-) read more

WOW...hay OWNER of this place...called today to get an apt ...got one...I have VSP and gave the lady answering the phone my info and #'s all she had to do which is what all Optometry offices would have to do is call the # and get authorization for me so I could use my insurance. SHE REFUSED TO CALL AND SAID SHE DIDN'T WANT TO BE ON THE PHONE FOR THAT LONG!!! Never in all the years of having Insurance have I ever ran into an office person that won't get the insurance info which is what they do..GUESS what lady you could just put it on hold and then do other stuff...We called back 2x's and she refused to do anything I guess but sit on her you know what and do nothing...LADY your the phone person this is what your suppose to do! read more

A complete thrill to work with. After the loss of my night vision, the thought of driving with the rest of society made me nervous. The staff was quick to adjust my mindset with the utmost care. Their office is very clean. I saw multiple cleaning supplies during my visit. I wouldn't eat off the floor, but if forced I wouldn't mind if a napkin was present. I waited a total of 5 minutes before getting called into a room to start my procedures. (I was on time. Results may vary if you feel you can't make it on time) I was shown what each machine did, why it did what it did, and how it could help me. DO NOT PUT YOUR FINGERS IN THE EYE HOLES. IT DOES NOTHING. The staff was a pleasant experience as well. Very knowledgeable, and quick to reach out and make sure YOU are comfortable. There was no funny business. Only business business. I'm so glad I got my eyes checked here instead of "the guys down the road" (mainly because the guy down the road is a dentist) 10/10 will return if I lose more vision. read more

I have been going to Dr. Allgeier since 2007. I have a collapsed vein in one eye can only go to Optometrists who know more than simple eye exams. In the decade I have been a patient, not only is dr. Allgeier more than qualified, listens to your concerns, but actually cares about his patients. They have expanded their offices where they can do glasses on site, and their staff have been outstanding. And the one complaint prior? "Turn phones off early, never get calls back" you must be dialing an incorrect number. I just called to ask, without mentioning who I am, "What time is your optometry department open tonight to purchase new glasses". They answered in 2 rings, and said "Our optometry department is open until 6 tonight". They open as early as 7:00 AM for first appointments and close at 6:00 PM. Anyone wants to message or question my review, more than happy to verify. I do not tolerate poor service and Dr. Allgeier has exceeded my expectations for 10 years running. read more

Due to COVID they couldn't reschedule my second appointment which is understandable but my biggest issue is with office staffs rudeness and billing issues from the first visit. I was never sent an original bill, never called or notified of a charge after my insurance was applied and I've just now got a statement showing 60 days past due on my account (3 months later!!) . The staff is severely lacking and clearly far behind in their daily tasks (and rude to boot) though the actual exam with the doctor was a decent experience. Please think about rotating your lesser quality employees out of the picture. Do not recommend and will not be returning. read more

I admit I have changed optometrists since I moved. However, it is worth noting that the staff here is very helpful, very nice. Sometimes the wait time is a bit long. But I really appreciate Dr. Allgeier. He's really patient. Once I had an appointment with another doctor, who admittedly was a bit cold and curt. Also, they had trouble with getting my prescription right once, and that was an inconvenience. However, given everything, they are a great business and I would recommend them. read more

I am updating my review because I feel like it's well deserved. After my previous posting Dr. Allgeier called me to discuss the issues I was experiencing. He invited me to come back in a few months after my post to show me the changes he's made. The staff was exceptionally kind. They updated their appointment system to get text notifications to confirm your appointments. My issues were never with him, it was the front desk staff and their poor attitudes, but it's done a complete 180 and he's made amazing changes. He is a small business owner and wants to make sure the business is ready for when his son comes into the practice. I completely respect that and I think it's 100% in the right direction. read more

I'm over 70 and was in need of glass' since the DMV wanted me to take the eye exam before my next birthday. I couldn't find a single place that would give me an eye exam before I had to take the test. My wife called everywhere and she also couldn't get me in until she explained my situation to the staff at Auburn Family Optometry. They were so nice in getting me in for an exam. I'm so grateful to all of the staff and the Doctors. I got there a little bit early and they took me right in and made me feel welcome. They have a very clean and neat office with the most professional staff. The exam rooms were sanitized before I was led in and the staff sanitized the equipment prior to using it for my exam. I picked out some nice glasses at a very reasonable price. My exam was only a week ago and I just got a notice that the glasses are ready to pick up. I'm thrilled and amazed at the speed and ease I am experiencing with Auburn Family Optometry. Thank you, staff, and Doctors. read more

These people are thieves! They added blue screen protection and made the glasses so I should have been able to work on a computer all day at a whopping $215.00, when I normally pay $25.00. The prescription the doctor ordered was all wrong, I could not see anything with my new glasses. I returned them the very next day and requested a regular pair of glasses. After much arguing, they agreed to give me the $25.00 pair but would not refund me the $215.00 for the other pair! The staff is rude and they will swindle you! Stay away! read more

I've been going here for about 8 years. The office staff is all very friendly and warm, not in a 'forced friendly' sort of way...genuine. I've had various staff (technicians) do my eye checks and although I can't remember all their names, they all have been professional and customer focused. Most of my other interactions have been with their staff that adjusts and repair glasses. They all do an excellent job and give excellent advice. I saw one doctor before I saw my current one, Dr. Brenda Coen. She is very good, explains what she's doing, answers my questions completely and is very personable. read more

First time with AFO as had lasik nearly 3 years ago and now finished with free exams down in Sacramento (Dr. Newman wonderful!). So nearly 68 yrs old so aging eyes still need a bit more help and wanted night driving glasses to get the best possible vision for extra safety. Had very thorough exam with great young lady. All new equipment, and many digital and advanced machines. Doctor who did eye testing was good too. Exam included digital screening photo and was a reasonable $134. What was most surprising was getting decent glasses including titanium frames and AR lenses for $149 inclusive and they were ready in just days. That's less than I paid at Costco before I had my lasik surgery! Good experience - will be returning!! read more
