1. The staff working at this establishment are kind, understanding, and patient. They always, always greet with a smile. 2. The doctors working here are genuinely invested in the wellbeing of your pets. My own cat (first time cat owner) had to undergo lots of tests to diagnose a chronic illness, and I was in the loop the entire time concerning the costs, timeline of test results, and I was given thorough information regarding her treatment. On the topic of those costs, there was a small mistake regarding a test label, which ended up costing some 50 extra dollars to run through. The doctor paid for it herself, and only let me know after the fact. 3. My family had to say goodbye to an older cat, named Tika. My mom's cat, 18 years old, and she was ready to go. We took her to this establishment to have her put to sleep, and today my family received a card from the Arbor Day Foundation stating that a tree was planted in a forest in need in Tika's memory, by a donation from this wonderful place. I've been going to this vet for around 8 years, and I cannot express my gratitude enough. In August of 2024 my best friend had to be put to sleep just short of 16 years old, so I can now attest to their care from start to finish. Funny how the reviews are either 0 or 5 here, right? I think that shows how much we care about our furbabies and the care they receive. So, I am putting PROS and CONS in this review, and I'm going to try and leave as much detail so whoever reads this can make their own best decision. I see Dr. Cullom, though I've worked with the other veterinarians in the clinic before. I've found her to be incredibly knowledgeable about current practices. (She's also now the owner! Congrats!) -- Pros -- 1. Costs and Knowledge: Auburn Veterinary Hospital very good about not breaking my bank, prioritizing best patient practices, and doing so in a flexible manner. There is no single "right answer" and I detest corporate veterinarian clinics that make you feel like the worst owner ever if you're not willing to put your pet through an invasive procedure that costs more than a car. For instance, another clinic quoted me over $2,500 for a colonoscopy to rule out cancer, right after my cat had a complication with temperature under anesthesia (which I was already 5k in). Auburn Veterinary Hospital was able to rule this possibility out with a new series of blood work, with a reasonable degree of accuracy. -- Not 100%, which I would have loved, but I couldn't afford to pay nor risk her health like that for 100%. (I think it was like 95% accuracy?) I was ALWAYS given multiple options, and those options were ALWAYS explained. Costs were clear, and so were risks. They also would never do something that was unnecessarily invasive, and always opted for the least pain and suffering. Things that might make me, an owner, feel better at the cost of quality of life for my cat were never even on the table (like open ribcage chest compressions). 2. Understanding and Flexibility: The clinic has gotten me in last minute over and over again as my cat's health declined in the year up to her passing. From my detailed reports and clear symptoms, to vague "I don't know how to say this, but her eyes just look weird." They never needed to see us last minute, they're NOT an emergency vet, but I greatly appreciated that they made every effort to. It helped her have good continuity of care, made sure she was in a familiar place, and saved me money when I was needing to come in sometimes twice a week. For the record, she passed of kidney failure and had significant struggles with nausea. So we were requiring a lot of IV fluid. 3. Kind and Compassionate They loved my cat like she was their own, which is probably the most important thing about it. I was a nervous wreck when I wasn't near her, but I always knew that they would be doing everything they could. They took very good care of us during our last appointment together. We had ample time, privacy, and I'm quite certain the tech was doing her best to hold back tears. 4. Privately owned and operated I hate capitalism and I hate capitalism even more when its involved in health care. I'm really glad they were able to avoid going corporate, and they've stayed open throughout covid and everything else that's happened in our economic world. I think staying local affords a lot of freedom and genuine care for pets, and avoids unnecessary profit seeking at the cost of an animal's wellfare. -- Cons -- 1) Lack of financing options: They do not take pet insurance, so you do have to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed later. (But they're very good at sending records when needed) They also don't accept CareCredit, or offer payment plans. (Totally get it) Be upfront if you're having financial difficulties and what you can afford, because they absolutely will work with you to find something within range that's going to be the best for the pet. 2) No emergency services You will need to go elsewhere for emergent services. Usually they refer out to Summit vet, which can be pricey. (But what emergency vet isn't) I think you should shop around for an emergency veterinarian so you know where to go in an emergency, what the costs are, etc. 3) No grooming or boarding for cats I think they used to offer this but its entirely up to the vet techs now. Which, they'll do their best, but all they have is a buzz shaver. They only offer boarding if they're there for a medical procedure. All very understandable not to have. I don't ask my doctor's office to be a hotel, so I think its a plus, but again something to be aware of. 4) Website could use some love A little challenging to navigate, but once you get used to it its not a big deal. I'm looking for a highly skilled groomer who can take on my mini-schnauzer who must be good with animals & have the time to get to know her and play with her for a few minutes before grooming her as she gets highly stressed out easily as she isn't one for having her face touched... & overall she can get fidgety when being groomed. I don't mind if a muzzle is used on her if need be or some type of device? She use to be easier to groom but as she gets older she's kinda crankier.. lol She loves people and if someone would be patient with her and give her a chance she would be just fine .. I'm really sad bc her last groomer was able to completely groom her and get her face and nails finished and even some of her ears at certain times; but for some reason she hasn't been able to so I'm wondering if Pet Smart has any capable groomers on hand. I already know the prices - and I expect to pay a little more w/her.. but c'mon people, it's starting to get ridiculous!' With the prices now days in this economy, some of us might have to eventually let our pet's grooming go which isn't healthy. I'm to the point I don't even know what to do... ??? As a first time client or walk in as better known, made a appointment for a animal i had found. A week from the date plus a deposit of $75 and when arrived at the confirmed date i was greeted by a staff memeber who asked me if i was in the right place without consulting any information. Apparently the lack of communication between staff is almost nil! After some time to sort the wrongful info give i was then rescheduled for another week because of there mistake. So the 2 weeks have passed and due to work related i called in to request to reschedule and they gave me the good ol its not our problem and your $75 is non refundable and thus ou will have to make another deposit due to the late notice. It's a veterinarians job to care for their patients. To recommend and run the proper tests. Listen to their client when they explain what symptoms are occurring and come up with a treatment plan moving forward. I have been taking my cats here for years and I believed they were receiving proper care the whole time. It has recently come to my attention that one of my cats that is hyperthyroid and has a history of pancreatitis has had the bare minimum of care. I brought my cat in last week for an emergency appointment since he had been vomiting, lethargic and has been rapidly losing weight. Doctor opted to do a thyroid blood test, ultimately changing the dosage of his thyroid medication and giving him a solensia injection. He did not do a full bloodwork panel. In fact there was no conversation about there being a potentially different issue going on with my cat. His conversation with me that the thyroid levels are within range and to just let him know if my cat keeps vomiting. He did not run additional tests, he did not question how the good test results would correlate to weight loss, vomiting and lethargy. I called back into the clinic 5 days later, explaining that my cat was declining even further. They informed me that it was "moving day" for their upcoming Grand Opening. They offered me an appointment the following week. I then informed them, that I felt he needed to be seen asap. They referred me to an emergency clinic. I rushed my cat to the emergency clinic where he was immediately placed in an oxygen chamber due to what I perceived to be labored breathing. In the Doctors words it was "end of life" breathing. His diagnosis was that my cat was severely dehydrated, extremely underweight, and his abdomen was clearly distended. When I told him my cat had been examined 5 days prior, he was surprised. For two days, bloodwork, radiographs and fluids were the treatment plan, as well as plural effusion(pulling some of the fluid out of his abdomen) I had to wait through the holiday weekend to get my cat an ultrasound. They informed me that my cat has cancer, and has fluid in his lungs and abdomen. The doctor located a mass within moments of touching my cat and couldn't believe no other Doctor had mentioned it before. They stated that he was severely dehydrated. Another thing our doctor at this clinic did not mention. It makes me sick to know that I put my pets care in the hands of a vet that didn't communicate other possible reasons for his symptoms. Didn't offer me additional treatment or tests. In fact it appears he did not do a thorough examination of my pet when I brought him in just days before he passed away. This clinic has failed in so many ways. Failed to listen to my concerns, failed to thoroughly examine my cat over the several visits in in the last few months, failed to make proper diagnosis and recommendations. In conclusion, due to the delay in diagnosis my pets suffering was prolonged. Had my pet been diagnosed in the early stages of his disease, when the decline was first noted (weight loss, frequent colds, vomiting) we could have explored all available options and made an informed decision. read more

After taking my two rescue cats to Auburn Veterinary Hospital for ten years, and spending thousands of dollars on their care, I can say that the quality of service has plummeted. My cats, now 17 years old, were taken in for an examination and I was told by the doctor that I should "prepare myself" for the death of one of them. Who says that? She is still active and very much alive. A few months later, I took them in for a routine nail clipping (at $26 each) and when I brought them home, I realized that their nails were not clipped. I called and was told that they most defiantly did do the job and that I could bring them back and discuss it with the technician. I told them I'm looking at their nails and I'm telling you the job was not completed. I was transferred to the account manager who, with an attitude, said she would refund $26 to my account. It was never refunded. I have zero confidence in the care and billing practices of this veterinarian clinic. I suggest you stay clear because it's not about the animal here, it's all about the profit. read more

We've been taking our dogs here for over 25 years and they've been nothing but great, including caring for our dog in his last days and putting one of our dogs down in the most empathetic way as well as surgery and other care. Also, I needed to board my present dog quickly today due to a medical family emergency and they were fantastic, caring and compassionate...so helpful. Our sweet girl DIED in the care of this vet!!!! While my husband and I were on our wedding and honeymoon we trusted the vet to board our two 1.5 year old English bulldogs. Sadly only one came home to us. After SEVEN days in this vets care we find out our girl is needing xrays for something that may be in her stomach. We start asking questions and find out for the previous seven days the vet had been administering and injecting Lula with antidepressants which we NEVER authorized. They gave her anti diarrhea and anti vommiting medications as well so I'm not sure how she would have been able to pass anything anyway. The fact that it took the vet seven days of mistreating and misdiagnosing our Lula without our knowledge kills me. Not to mention they had already racked up a bill of $1300 for her in those seven days and said the surgery would cost us another $6000!! They treated her purely for financial gain and had zero compassion!! The manager Suzanne Nagy was extremely argumentative and continued to bring up money and told us our bill was nonnegotiable when I told her we did not authorize all the injections and questioned Lulas care. I begged her to let Lula hear our voices and she refused. I asked her why if my dog was in an emergency state I am just now hearing from her for the very first time?!? Feeling hopeless we gave the OK for a what they said would be $400 IV for her to hopefully make it through the night but could not send her for a $6000 surgery not being there or trusting the vets intentions or diagnosis. First thing in the morning my husband called to check on Lula and we were told she didn't make it, they had not even called us!!!!! After asking about options for her body all they did was bring up more money!!! Even saying they wanted $20 for a stamp of her paw, I felt so taken advantage of and defeated. Immediately upon return we picked up our sweet girls body and had to bury her in our backyard with our 5 year old daughter under her favorite apple tree. The vet expressed no remorse and I feel only tried to cover up the damage they had done the seven days prior in their care. PLEASE PLEASE do not trust this vet with your sweet animals!!! We are completely heart broken with our loss and absolutely believe it's due to the care she received at Auburn Veterinary. read more

Had a horrible time at a different vet hospital, found these guys on Google, they had me fill out the paperwork before I arrived, waited 15 minutes for them to call to see my dog. Walked him in explained what he needed seen for and that he was mostly deaf and blind, he's an old dog with old dog problems, just not ready to say good bye, the tech was very understanding. Spoke with Dr. Brown for at least half an hour while he explained everything, his recommendations and why he thought it was the best way to proceed. He was very patient and understanding. read more

Very disorganized! I would not recommend this vet. Brought our dog in for a spay. On her check-up to remove stitches they didn't get all off them. I had to remove several after visit. Scheduled all my pets for their yearly exam. Unfortunately, I had to cancel. Called 24hrs in advance and cancelled. Next day received a call asking where I was. Told them I had canceled the previous day. They apologized. Then asked if I would like to reschedule. Rescheduled for a few weeks later. Making sure they could see both my dogs, and our new kitten. When I arrived they seemed surprised. They said they didn't have them all scheduled. After looking at the computer they found the appointment for all three. In the back room the vet didn't have the records for my dogs. Had to go out front to find them. He looked over my Westie. Prescribed her antibiotics, and a topical cream for some skin irritation. Then he had a tech take both my dogs to the back for their vaccines. While the dogs were in back he examined my kitten. In the middle of the exam he left the room. When he came back he couldn't remember if he had examined her, so he starts over. After everything was done both dogs were given flea medication, and their vaccines. My one dog also received a prescription for antibiotics, and topical cream. The kitten was given flea medication. Two weeks later. I go to a website to stock up on their flea medication. The vet calls me to tell me they can only authorize flea meds for my kitten because she was the only one examined. She then told me that my dogs haven't been seen at the vet since May of the previous year. Shocked, I told her they were all seen this month. They were even prescribed flea medicine. She said they couldn't have been prescribed flea meds without an examination, and they haven't been seen. Finally, she says yes they were here, but only for vaccines. I asked her how they were given medication if they didn't get an exam? She asked me to hold. A different woman comes on, and she tells me they can't authorize a prescription without an examination. We rehash everything. I even told her that my Westie received antibiotics, topical cream, flea medication, and her vaccines. You're still telling me that she wasn't examined?! She then tells me that it sounds like an exam, but she didn't charge me for it, and she'd be happy to charge me for the exam. WTH?! I instantly called a different vet, and my dogs will never go back to this place. read more

My first visit... I had an appointment for one of my cats but another got sick just as I was about to leave, so I took him instead. When I walked in I told the girl behind the desk I didn't think he was going to make it. She immediately took the carrier and went in the back. A moment later she offered me a bottle of water and ask the animals name and mine. When I spoke to Dr. Eric he was so kind, he gave me great information on Malibu's condition. Unfortunately the best thing to do for Malibu was to end his time with me. I found out later that when he came in both doctors and a couple techs were working with him. The staff is phenomenal and has such loving hearts for their clients and their parents. A couple weeks later we received a beautiful card from them. read more

My experience at first was good but has degraded to poor. They are under- staffed and I have 8 cats which are older and in need of ongoing care. Everytime I call, I am always put on hold. Then when I make the appointment I always wait 15-20 in waiting room then another 30 -45 min in operatory room for the vet to come in. They usually can get me in for emergency exam in a shorter time if necessary. Treatments though like dental cleanings and surgeries are usually booked months out so my pets have to wait which I know this is common. Recently my cat who had cancer though was not even able to get in for emergency ex or get the medication needed to assist with pain before he died! I must have called them 5 or 6 times to see if they filled the rx. and they finally had it ready at 6:00 pm. We picked it up but it was by then it was really too late. They never do a follow up call but expect you to call them to find out any test results. And when I do call, they still cannot answer but have the Vet call me when he has time. I hate the lack of follow up with communication. They are just way too busy and don't have time for good personal care. Now days, when the animals temperature are taken, modern vets just use a device that touches their ear, and does not stress the animal. The vet here uses "old school" methods and just crams a thermometer up their butt without lube. ( Not sure how clean that is, they use the same on different pets. )The care I have found to be low rate and just more pallative type of treatment. I have spent a ton of money (thousands) bringing all of them in for care. My cat issue is a very sore tooth and has not been able to eat for about a week. She runs around the house screaming if she drinks water or tries to lick her soft food. I know she is due for her cleaning and was hoping they would work to combine the surgical procedure for tooth extraction with a cleaning. It's not that difficult to scrape of a little bit of tooth deposit at the same time. Having to put her under anesthesia twice is quite an extra cost and hard on my cat too. They told me they could not do any cleaning for about 2 and 1/2 months. So I told them she could not wait that long for treatment. I am not happy with the LAME service I have received. I am done bringing my pets here and paying for crummy care. I think it may be time for some to hang it up. read more

It took me awhile to write this review as it still makes me upset what I went through here but I figured I should warn other people who might consider bringing their pets there. So, here's what happened to me and my guinea pig... My guinea pig had an issue some hair loss and some stomach bloat, and while visually concerning, she seemed otherwise the same as she always was. She was eating, playing, everything normal. And so I decided to take her in after the problem didn't go away. Well, they did 2 x-rays on her, gave her a liquid antibiotic and sent her on her way. $350 later, I had her back home and was giving her a liquid antibiotic with a syringe 2x a day and was told she'd be back to normal within a week. But she didn't even make it that long. By the 3rd day she was wobbling. She was slow. She wasn't herself. Then she could hardly stand on her own. She stopped eating. She was aimlessly dragging herself around with her front paws. It was so sad to see. I stopped her doses immediately, she was being poisoned. But it was too late. She died within 24 hours of that and it was a horrible, painful death. It breaks my heart to be rehashing it in my head. I never went back there again. Nor will I ever. I've found a new vet who cares for my guinea pigs. I mentioned this story to him and he said it's fairly common for vets to prescribe antibiotics to guinea pigs and be totally unaware that they are toxic. Apparently, guinea pigs can only take certain kinds and a quick Google search will confirm this, but when a vet is ignorant of this that should be of great concern. What really gets me, and still bothers me, is that she would very likely still be alive today if I hadn't taken her to Auburn Veterinary Hospital. read more

My Goldendoodle pup was returned to me with a chunk of his coat on his side missing due to a razor gone awry, one of his nails split, leaving a sharp shard that would surely scratch/cut him or me, and a perfumed odor that I didn't ask for nor did I appreciate. Everyone forgot to call me when he was done so my pup sat confined until I called 45 minutes after the estimated finish time. So grateful for the care they have given our babies. They were our family vet growing up and I am so glad that after I moved back home to see they are still amazing! Shortly after moving back our lab got bone cancer, they were so supportive in the short time we had with him and very caring in our needs. Tonight I had an emergency with our new lab pup and they got us in right away on a busy night right before closing. I didn't even get a chance to call ahead while rushing her down there and they got us in within ten minutes. I absolutely love this place! Maddy takes a lot of special consideration and is a difficult dog to work with when it comes to the vet, she is very nervous!! The staff here is great! Madison did not do well on the first visit and therefore nothing could be accomplished. A second visit was set up and we went home with some meds so we could get through the next appointment. I have had madison for 8 years and this was the first vet to even suggest trying Prozac to help with anxiety. I appreciate how good they were with her and their patience in dealing with Maddy. My Meg has been cared for by Dr. Jow and the amazing AVH staff for the majority of her 12 years. Meg was very adverse to strangers and she was so at ease with Dr. Jow. Two years ago, the AVH and emergency care team saw her through a difficult hospitalization and nursed her back to health. This week the staff made her comfortable as she passed away peacefully without pain. We couldn't be more blessed to have peaceful passing for our baby, as well as a staff who truly cared for Meg and mourn the loss of her big life with us. If you want to pay a ton of money for nothing head on in. I took my dogs there after arriving here from the US. I forgot to get a heart worm test before we left so I had to have that done. I pointed out that we had just crossed the border so the dogs were thoroughly checked and had health certificates, all they needed was a blood test. The vet in no way examined my dogs but then charged a over 300 dollars for exams he didnt perform and two blood tests. Then took 3 days to get back to me when they promised results in 24 hours. I checked with my Vet in the states and the test is 49 dollars per dog there. I feel completely ripped off and will NEVER go back. Its a very congested parking lot and hard to get in and out of there as well. Very disappointed. read more

This vet is absolutely wonderful. They are very gentle with my two pugs, even my little boy who gets so freaked out over nail trims.

They have been taking care of our family pets for decades and have always done a great job. We are now bringing our newest standard poodle Milou here and it is going great. They did her spay and she healed up wonderfully, no problems at all other than getting restless from having to lay around the house for two weeks. Dr. Jow also saw her for an ear infection and handled her very well. Right now we are working on battling fleas and they just gave us a chew to try that lasts 3 months. They said it is the most effective and safest for the dogs. They don't even recommend flea baths anymore because it might be bad for the dogs skin.
