Dodged a nightmare! Main points: - Overcharges for meds by 4X normal price - Long waiting time (you may wait for 2 hours without knowing what is going on) - Will try to pull as many of your dog's teeth when not necessary for a quick buck. - Not affordable - They lie about the current standing health of your animal to upsell you on unnecessary procedures My girlfriend and I brought our beloved dog, Shout, to Afford A Vet for a normal tooth cleaning. We had to pay for a mandatory checkup. At this checkup, they overcharged basic pet meds by 4X of what they're sold on Chewy. From that checkup, I spent $170 to get told we should schedule for dental cleaning & a box of pills that cost $12 that I should have bought elsewhere. I was then told would have to pay an additional estimated $1,700 for his dental work in a month. They said he would have to get around 10 teeth pulled!! Over the span of that month, we felt like terrible owners even though our dog was very happy. We went to Mission Vet Clinic in Kent to get a second opinion and the total was $350 with no teeth needing to be pulled, and no mandatory checkup scam. His teeth are very healthy! Save yourself the headache and DO NOT bring your animal here. They will try to exploit the sentimental attachments you have with your animal & permanently alter their appearance for a huge profit! Afford A Vet is a scam of a practice, and should not be in business; I'll never bring my dog or any future pet there again. If they deny any of this then I'll find the quote sheet and update the review.

So, as I scroll through the previous reviews, I'm a bit surprised to read the negative comments. I've been here a few times for our family dog, and now, for two of our kittens... and I gotta say... I have had nothing but great customer service. We came here, on potentially one of the Familia's saddest day, and had to put our beloved Thunder down. They staff was so gracious, understanding, and comforting. They allowed us time to grieve, with no pressure or hurry. They explained the process in detail and made sure we knew everything that they were doing all along the way. For that alone, I'm in full gratitude for their service. Since then, we have returned a couple of times for our kittens, and they've handled them with care and expertise. Never once did I see or hear any "rude" service from anyone, in the private rooms or in the lobby. Although, this place may not be a favorite of our fur babies, they've definitely earned our business and respect. The prices are decent, and I'm sure in comparison to other veterinary clinics, cheaper by most standards... but more importantly... their service has been great! I have no issues recommending this clinic to my family and friends. So... with that said... when your little companions are happy, they make you Happy!

They do not return phone calls or texts. The vets are great but they need better staffing or call management.

Ask the Community - Clover Veterinary Hospital

I see your price for dog teeth cleaning (dog is 4.5 yrs and 27 lbs) but there was a comment that made me nervous. Do you prices ($120) for teeth cleaning, include the anesthetic? Are there any other costs assuming no extractions?

A basic dental prophy starts at $89.00 for a dog that size. Assuming no extractions are needed, the only additional cost would be a penicillin injection, which prevents infection during the dental prophy. The cost averages around $16, but varies… Read more

The staff was very kind and informative over the phone. I asked about pricing for checkup and spay…read moresurgery, and they answered all my questions. Their pricing for the feline spay surgery was reasonable, and procedure was pretty straightforward. Drop off the pet around 8-9am, and pick up around noon. There was a bit of a line during pickup because one of their machines was down, so they had to serve all customers AND answer the phone. It must've been quite busy for them. They gave detailed instructions for aftercare, as well as the pain & antibiotic medicine. I think we found our kitty's new regular vet. :)

One of the most traumatic and negligent veterinary experiences I've ever had…read more I trusted this clinic with my dog's life, and that trust was profoundly misplaced. Over the course of treatment, they performed four surgeries that were later confirmed to be unnecessary, putting my dog through repeated anesthesia, pain, and recovery for no legitimate medical reason. Their lack of proper diagnosis, poor judgment, and complete disregard for the physical toll on my dog nearly cost her her life. At no point were we given clear explanations, alternative options, or convincing medical justification for why surgery after surgery was supposedly required. Each procedure created more complications, more suffering, and more fear. What makes this unforgivable is that much of this could have been avoided with competent care, thorough diagnostics, and basic professional caution. Instead, we were met with confidence without competence, and reassurance that turned out to be dangerously wrong. The emotional distress this caused our family -- watching our dog deteriorate because we followed professional advice -- is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. Veterinary care requires trust, and this clinic shattered it. I strongly urge pet owners to seek second opinions before consenting to any major procedures here. Had we done so earlier, my dog may have been spared immense pain and trauma.

Hi, I want to share our very sad and disappointing experience with VCA Covington and encourage you…read morenot to visit this office. While our visits before Emma's end-of-life were positive and warm, we received such painful and shameful care at the end of Emma's life. I would never want another family or pet to go through what we did. Here's our story: Emma was diagnosed with renal disease around 9 months old. She had testing done prior to her being spayed. Dr. Walls believed it was possibly due to a birth defect. Moving forward, we went to the office every 6 months for check-ups and blood work. Around the end of April (Emma is now almost 5), we noticed Emma was declining in health. Around that time, I went on our VCA app and scheduled an appointment. Her appointment was scheduled for a month away (beginning of June). So, the next day, I called the office and asked if there was any way we could get Emma in sooner. The receptionist told me that we could call each day at 8 a.m. to see if we could get a cancellation and come in for a same-day appointment. I am a schoolteacher, and I explained I could not leave work for a same-day appointment and asked if there was an appointment the next day or in the coming week or so, anything sooner than beginning of June. I was told no, and she recommended we take Emma to Arrow, if needed. Fast forward two weeks later, and Emma is getting worse. I call again, and I am told the same thing again. This time, I say that my children's pediatrician keeps sick appointments in their schedule....was this something their office did as well? No, but I can call each day at 8 a.m. to hope to get a cancellation for a same-day appointment. This time, I ask a clarifying question: So am I understanding that your office is more of a clinic for preventive and wellness care? And, the receptionist says, yes. Then another week passes, and Emma is very sick. I have the same conversation with the same clarifying questions and answers. So, your office provides wellness and preventative care, but sick visits are not to be expected? Yes. This time, I share that we are so sad and disappointed in the care we are receiving at Emma's end-of-life. That this is something they needed to share with our family and other families when their pet is diagnosed with a chronic disease. 4 days later our sweet Emma was put to rest at Mountainside Vet in Maple Valley. Someplace she was not a patient, with people she had not been see or been cared by. They were wonderful with Emma, but what a terrible and shameful way for VCA to handle our situation. Emma died 4 weeks after we had made our appointment. Please do not take your pets to this clinic!! Your family and pets deserve dignity, compassion, and love at the end of their life. I also want to add that Fairwood Veterinary Office was also so helpful and kind when we were searching for sooner care. They were so helpful and caring. VCA may be great for wellness and preventative care, but end-of-life care is also so important.
