    In a two-word summary? Dishonest advertising!…read more Gave me the ol' "bait & switch" Drove 1.5 hrs for a specific vehicle. The vehicle price was listed on Auto Trader, then I reviewed the listing on their website. We set up the appointment and visited the dealer. A sales rep allowed us to test drive the car, then offered to repair the minor issues we found. The car itself was a five year old car with 69k miles on it. It was in very good condition. The price listed was competitive. After the test-drive, we went into the office with the sales rep. We told the rep we were paying "cash" (check) and would not be financing (they encouraged us to finance and said we could pay it off early, but after questioning we found out that the earliest payoff would be 6 months). Anyway, the rep disappeared into the other room for a while, then cam back with a sheet of paper that had the advertised price with SEVERAL OTHER LINES OF LARGE FEES added to it, including "certified vehicle cost" and a handful of other fees. These fees totaled $3,547 dollars on a $21,999 advertised sales price (over 16%)! I don't have a problem with sellers/dealers adding reasonable fees, so long as these are CLEARLY disclosed (without "hiding them in very small print or on pages you have to click hyperlinks to get to). THESE FEES WERE NOT DISCLOSED ON THEIR WEBSITE OR AUTO TRADER's website. I am not an experienced used-car buyer and the next time I'm in the market for a used/pre-owned vehicle, I will be sure to ask those questions before visiting the dealership, but such tactics are not honest. We left the dealership without purchasing because now the price went from a "good deal" (per KBB) to a fair/poor deal. I wasted 5 hours of my life on this bad experience. So why am I giving the rating a "2" instead of a "1"? Because other than the failure to disclose the 16% ($3.5k) "markup", they were nice people, particularly the sales guy. But that decision was not made at the salesperson level (at least not without the knowledge of executive management/ownership). A manager/supervisor who came over the desk after the salesperson summoned him said that this was a regular practice. In my own line of business, this is not considered "normal", honest, and a good business practice! TOTAL HONESTY/INTEGRITY is always the best way to run a business! I did end up purchasing a vehicle from another source, and I'm very happy with it (the TOTAL prices was clearly noted!). So what did Hampstead gain from that? Maybe they sold that vehicle for the price they wanted, but in the long-term, those advertising/business practices rarely work out in business's favor!

On Carmax website, they bring you in with a high "quote I sat in my car, thinking it was not even a real Carmax location . After calling the website, the number listed online, they were very kind and the person I spoke to said they did not know about the York Road location and gave me the option to go to Ellicott city or White marsh. I had been to White marsh before to help a young woman buy a car. Three years prior there was no issue with the location. After arriving and having the customer service representative, tell us that it was all right that it would take us 30 minutes to get to our 3 o'clock appointment . We show up at 3:15. Marty was very nice and did their best to help us, but the last place did not even give us any of the paperwork they had. I had to explain that that was unprofessional, then another gentleman who was not the manager told me what my experience was he sat there in front of my face and told the manager that the person at York Road explained everything to us. Then was hesitant when I immediately confronted them. I asked the man if he was there at the location when the information was explain to me they of course, said they were not there. So I had to ask how is it that I'm sitting here with no paperwork and you're telling me how it was explained. The person I thought was holding back from saying what he really wanted to say. looked at the vehicle again after the. York rd location , and tried to tell me that a ticking sound is the same as engine knock. I told him I did not think that's what it was shook their hands and thank you walked back inside and found them guess what talking to the manager, which of course stopped when I walked in I spoke to the manager. She was polite and did what she could to get me out of the store . Overall I would say I will be bringing the car back to the mechanic that just gave it a clean bill of health and if it is true that it has an engine knock this car with 40,000 miles from 2019 . Then we will repair it sell the vehicle move on. What I think is more likely to happen is that they will find something that is causing the ticking and fix it. I literally just looked it up and they said a ticking noise in this model vehicle could be a loose, spark, plug or low oil pressure. And they think I will fall for that and give them the vehicle for several thousand under the original price on the website for a loose spark plug. It is honestly embarrassing. If you want your car to have fake issues so that they can get the best possible price for themselves go to Carmax they will tell you that you're wrong. They will tell you what conversations happened in what way. This visit ended with the young woman trying to sell the car in tears and broken down embarrassing treatment. I was pre-approved by another lender who works with this dealership, so I figured it was worth checking out. Unfortunately, I ended up dealing with the manager since Tony was with someone else. I guess he thought being the manager gave him the right to be rude. He didn't check my income or anything--just took my license, walked to his office, came back, and asked how much I had down. I told him, because it was already on my application. Then he hits me with, "I can get you approved, but you'll need $7,000-$8,000 down. Do you have that?" And he didn't even sit down--he was standing behind me, clearly focused on another customer. At that point, I was done. I just pulled out my phone and called my ride. He shrugged, said "OK," tossed my license back on the desk, and walked off to help the other customer.

My "Check Engine" light turned on, and my engine wasn't feeling/sounding "normal," as I noticed while sitting at red lights. I remembered that just the other day I'd had difficulty starting my car--a problem I had not had before. Was it safe to drive my car to the airport on this frigid cold Maryland night? I pulled over to figure out my next course of action. I thought it would be safe to at least have a car service station check out the meaning of the "Check Engine" light, since it was still before 5. I used Google Maps to find one nearby, and by complete LUCK, it seems, Maven Motors was just a few blocks away. They were so friendly and welcoming! It was just before closing, and yet they were super accommodating. Eli checked out my engine light on the spot and said it would need servicing. I told them I was doing a lot of traveling and wanted to make sure my car was safe to drive. Eli confirmed it was safe to make my trip to the airport, giving me peace of mind. I dropped my car off on Thursday morning, and they gave me a ride home, for free. They identified other issues, including a problem with a past repair from another shop that did not use the right parts! I thought the price they quoted was quite reasonable. Today they dropped my car off in front of my home and handed me my keys. How's that for customer service? They were quick to respond to my questions, whether by phone or email. I am very, very impressed! I plan to remain a customer of Maven Motors. Thank you!
