I wanted to buy a turntable and had done some research online. I did not want to buy online because I had questions and wanted to be able talk to someone in person. I haven't bought any audio equipment in a very long time but the last time I bought anything of quality, (maybe 25 years ago), a friend recommended Audio Breakthroughs. I went back after all these years. I met Stu, who made a recommendation of a Denon product and gave me a price that was less than the online vendors. I've had these guys install two different systems in my house. The first, was a Dolby Atmos surround system in the den, the second was a hifi system with Martin Logan electrostats and a Pass labs integrated amplifier. They also installed Control 4 throughout my house. I keep going back to them because they are both incredibly knowledgeable and really nice guys. Spencer and Bruce helped me select my dream pair of speakers, rolling out pair after pair until I was sure I had picked the right ones. Michael is an expert with Martin Logans, and helped place, and calibrate my speakers - which can be a bit finicky with setup depending on the room. Matthew, the programmer, lives in the same town - so if I ever have a Control 4 issue - he's there to fix it immediately. I've dealt with a lot of hifi guys in my time. Knew the original owners but my buddy passed away but Bryce is still around offering top rate gear. Bought a big system if high end audio equipment in 1992 and shipped it to Florida. Audio Breakthroughs did an amazing job in designing and then installing my stereo/home theater system. The components and speakers used were really fantastic and were sold at great prices. This is not a bottom end audio place. For that go to Best Buy. This is a high-end audiophile place. That's their sweet spot and that's where they really excel. At the end of all of it I had a complete home theater system with tower speakers, center channel speaker, satellite speakers, giant subwoofer, receiver, integrated amp, bluesound node Roku and new OLED TV. We put the components in a beautiful BDI cabinet with integrated TV stand which they sold. All of it controlled by a Control4 unit which works great and controls everything -- and I can use either my iPhone or the included remote control to work everything. I'd recommend them without hesitation. When you call ask for Bruce, the owner. He knows his audio stuff chapter and verse and will point you to the best in class components. Not necessarily the most expensive components. The best components for the money. There is stuff in his store he could've sold me which cost five times as much as the stuff I bought but the stuff I bought and that he recommended was just fantastic. Largely consisted of GoldenEar speakers which are mind blowing and not expensive for what they are--which is top end audiophile speakers. They also set up my zone two in the bedroom highlighted by some excellent Thiel Audio speakers which I already had driven by the same nine channel amplifier that sits in my living room. The installation was as good as the sales experience. A crack team of three installation professionals who have experience installing all sorts of systems from regular ones like mine to multi hundred thousand dollar systems came and transformed my apartment living into an audiophile heaven. Their work was clean, they were courteous and professional and the product was great. If you live anywhere in the New York area this is the place to go for high-end audio stuff. Just purchased a pair of Focal speakers, (they're awesome), from these guys and what a great buying experience it was. They have a great selection of speakers at all price ranges, and they truly don't care which ones you buy. Many electronic options as well, at all price points. This is good because I don't want to try speakers that are hooked up to a McIntosh system if I'm only rocking a Marantz receiver. I came in three times to test speakers, the final one with the wife, cause I just couldn't choose between the Focal and GoldenEar, no pressure from these guys. They answered all my questions gladly. I could have thrown a party with the amount of cds I brought and played, again they were happy to accommodate, never rushing me or making me feel like they had better things to do. I had walked in to an audio place on Park ave and stayed 5 minutes, it had a very high end atmosphere, very high end, it wasn't for me. Then I went to the magnolia store in Westbury and found their selection lacking. I listened to the B&W 7 series but they had nothing to compare it to. If you know thats what you want then you are good to go. I can't go from one store then to another trying to compare speakers, I don't have that good a brain or ears, I need side by side comparisons and they could not accommodate me. I didn't purchase super expensive speakers, at least not in the audiophile world they weren't in the wife world they were, but I did purchase speakers that should make me happy for the next 10 years. That shouldn't be a 10 minute shopping experience and these guys know it and treat it that way. It was a non trivial (above the fireplace) installation with a SONOS sound system and multiple requirements on wiring and connected devices (4 HDMI, 1 Component AV cable). This review is long overdue. I truly love this place...one of the few remaining "old-school" audio shops remaining. I am a bit of a curmudgeon who still insists on spinning vinyl and listening to CDs! My last purchase (a new turntable) was about a year ago. When I first bought it, the turntable was delivered to the store not properly working. Stu said "this is not right." He sent it back, procured a second new table for me and they mounted my moving coil cartridge and set it all up for me to take delivery. Their price was literally only a few dollars more than what I could have paid on-line but the aggravation that Audio Breakthroughs saved me was clearly worth it. Stu talked me into a cartridge upgrade and his advise was great, Showroom is stuffed with display models and you can actually bring in your favorite records and CDs to listen. Whether you want to listen to your old vinyl or buy a state-of-the art streaming system, home theater etc., this place has it all. I am thinking of buying a new pair of speakers and they invited me to bring in my amp for the demo! That's really old school!!! Cannot say enough good things about Bruce and Stu. We recently completed a large new construction home in the Flower Hill section of Manhasset and used Audio Breakthroughs for our entire audio, video, lighting, surveillance, computer network and outdoor audio systems which they entirely integrated using control4.  I am a pretty experienced audio video client and have some experience with the "high end audio" industry, so frankly I was expecting to dread the experience of doing an entire house with a either i)  a snobby company with a flashy showroom and overpriced exotic equipment and installation/support costs or ii) an independent expert used by architects that had with limited access to product, steers towards highest margin stuff, depends on you for a good part of their annual income and can't be found after installation is done.  Audio Breakthroughs had none of these issues and really surprised me to the upside in nearly all respects - which made working with them (for two years now) a pleasurable, even fun, experience.  Most notably they are an honest, family owned business with a personal support team. Bruce is long time owner with his son Spenser.  I had Jeff do network and systems integration with Sean doing a lot of the installation work. The team knows all the products and doesn't try to sell you exotic stuff if there is almost as good, more mainstream, but still high end, alternative.  At the start of our project, I was auditioning and pricing up everything but by the end I just trusted them to "get me a landscape system" knowing it would be the best one in the reasonable high end space and it was both better sounding and cheaper than I thought. Audio Breakthroughs doesn't waste money on a big fancy showroom, but don't let that fool you they have everything you need and more.  Most of the equipment I bought from them is never even displayed in the showroom. You will be happier will their lower bills, extensive product range, and service focus more than you would be with a huge whole house demonstration studio.  For example, their bid for our whole house Lutron system was 30% less than our electricians and they always passed on the pretty substantial discounts they often got from manufacturers.  On more mainstream stuff like LG OLED TVs  and the like you'll get the same price as you would get in the big box stores but with much better support.  Installation costs, when not included with the proposal bundle or product, were also very reasonable given the time they spent.  Yes, Bruce will sometimes try to talk you into moving up from your budget (like a Sony 4K projector), but they were good recommendations for me.   As with all advanced networked A/V systems there are going to be a lot of set up issues so support is crucial and Audio Breakthroughs has been great on responding and doesn't nickel and dime you on inevitable changes from the base contract, usually giving me credit for things that we later upgraded.  And if they are occasionally slow on responding, they have a local shop so you can always stop in on to find them unlike independent av consultants.  Or just go there and hang out and have them demo a couple of the latest releases and shoot the breeze about all things A/V. Overall, the product and service you get from Audio Breakthroughs is miles ahead of anyone else you will find on the high end/custom installation spectrum and I highly recommend them. Audio Breakthroughs is the best place to get your audio and video equipment. Through many years I have relied upon their expertise to obtain spectacular sound and video. I started with a pair of electrostatic speakers a long time ago, but have added and upgraded as the technology keeps improving and getting more affordable. I have a main home theater with one of the latest projectors and a smaller one with an Oled TV in the bedroom. To see most of what I watch in 4K and often HDR it truly wonderful and satisfying, especially being a perfectionist. In 2015 I decided to finally upgrade my Video projection system. I had been waiting and evaluating systems for years. When I finally decided on the Sony 4 K VW600ES was worth a look I first tried Sony. They wanted list price for it & had none in any of their stores to (even NYC) to look at it. Luckily they told me a local distributor Audio Breakthroughs in nearby Manhasset Ny did have one I could see. I walked in without an appointment and was immediately shown it in action. I was blown away. Detail I hadn't seen in films I had seen a dozen times before -even in IMAX. I got a good deal on it and a Krell processor and a Sony 4K hard drive. The installation was set on a day that called for snow and yet they pulled off the install in spite of near impassable road conditions. The final product was beyond even what I saw in the showroom. Incredible almost insane detail. The upscale resolution on blu ray disks, especially ones shot partially in IMAX (Dark Knight, Skyfall etc) rivals native 4K. The Krell, makes soundtracks wide and pure and switches sources well, once you learn to speak Krell. In learning about the Krell I've had questions on that and Audio Breakthroughs got the Krell Rep on the phone to answer them for me. Cant beat that. Its been 3 months since installation and I and my guests are still blown away. The picture surpasses what I see in the theater. The 3D is great (u will wind up buying a lot more 3D blu rays after u see it on this Sony) Cable TV is astonishing and even old 1970's films on DVD uprez much better than you'd expect.
