If you don't subscribe to some sort of Audiophile/Home Theater magazine, this is not the store for you. With names like Grado, GoldenEar, and Infinity, this store is strictly audiophile. I don't have too much experience with Audio Video Today so take my review with a grain of salt. I bought a pair of Grado SR225i headphones here many years ago for a fair price and was very careful not to knock over all the $20K speakers on my way to the headphone counter. The sales staff is knowledgeable and friendly but you should still dress up so they know you have the moolah to buy their merchandise :-). They price-match and offer a wide selection of Demo and Used equipment so even the common-man can afford a piece of the high-end pie. When I started looking for a new TV, Best Buy seemed like the only place to actually see the displays. But I wanted excellent sound as well and Best Buy only had soundbars with harsh highs and booming bass. I'm so glad I found Audio Video Today. Duke in the store helped me choose a TV that was right for me and didn't try to up-sell me. I wanted an amp and speakers and Duke helped me choose within my budget. I'm very happy with my purchases and Duke was knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. But then the new TV and audio system had to be installed. Daniel, the owner, came by my house the same day to see what needed to be done. My project was a little complicated because I had two recesses in the wall over the fireplace for an old-style CRT television and components, and I wanted the wires for the new TV run inside the walls. Daniel gave me a detailed quote for the work later that night, including the drywall and texture work. I thought the drywall price was a little high, so I made some calls and found out that his prices were the same as others charge. I also found out how hard it is to get a contractor to call back and give a specific quote. I decided to go with Audio Video Today and let Daniel manage the drywall contractor, who was great to have in my home and did an excellent job. Also, by using AV Today's installation crew, I knew all the work would be coordinated and Daniel would be accountable. My new TV and sound system are amazing. Now I realize that it would have been a nightmare to manage the project on my own. It was great to know that Daniel would oversee each step and make sure everything was done right. Communication is very important to me. It was such a pleasure to get questions answered quickly regarding technical issues or work getting done. I called many audio/video places around my area looking for B&W speakers. Audio Video Today gave me the best deal on B&W CM9's and a Denon 3313 receiver. They allowed me to audition different brands and models on different occasions. They are very friendly, I've talked with both Duke and Tom and couldn't be happier. I am recommending all my friends to AV Today if they want B&W or Paradigm speakers and any brand of receiver. UPDATE Well, this place just keeps impressing me. Anyway, just two to three months after buying my B&W CM9's I noticed that some visitor to my apartment must have bent one of the tweeters! I've been going to Audio Video Today for decades. How many other audiophile level stores have been around that long? I think the reason they've been around so long is that they are very customer oriented, no hard sell tactics, as well as knowledgeable staff. My first big purchase from them were my Spica TC-50 speakers, which I loved for many a year. I now live in south county so I haven't been up there for awhile but anytime I'm in the area and have a few minutes to spare I'll stop in to catch up on what's new and interesting in their shop. 3 years ago, I purchased a soundbar from Audio Video Today. Instead of driving all the way to the store, Tom arranged to meet me near my home, and delivered my purchase as he was going home on his commute. That's stellar customer service. I have 3 words for anyone considering buying any products or services from this company. DONT DO IT MOST UNPROFESSIONAL team of employees I've ever met. Daniel and duke will do nothing but try to upsell you on any equipment you are considering, yes you pay for quaility in these circumstances but this company does a horrible job of making timelines and in no way to they ever give you a quick and easy install, they will comeback to your house about 3/4 times to be able to get it done. There are only 3 employees at this store and have no structure. Daniel will probably send out 1 guy to do your job. Hence why it will take much longer than needed to complete your job. Kato does a great job and works hard, no idea why he's working for Daniel...but in short...THESE GUYS BLOW, get you home AV equipment and install somewhere else...trust me. read more

Just moved here from Texas, and needed someone to hang a few tvs and hook up a surround sound system. Even though I thought it wasn't a huge installation the results were beyond what I expected. Took my Pre amp in for as software update after buying over $6,000 on a tv and pair of speakers and few days before. They owner acted like he was going to look at it for free, "bring it down and I'll do it for you". Did just that. When I got there he was gone so I left it there with his employee. I came back a few days later and talked to the employee I left it with said it wasn't touched so I figured I would just send it in, the manufacturer will do the update for free. The employee went back to get it for me. When he came back he gave me another unit, their floor model (the same model number as mine) by accident. I was nice enough to tell them they gave me there floor model. Should have kept my mouth shut. Just then the owner came in and said he would help me out. After a hour of waiting, me watching him the whole time trying to get it updated. He honesty had no idea what he was doing. After he couldn't figure it out he tried to charge me $200!!!! This after I stopped from walking out with their floor model and leaving mine, not to mention I just spent $6,000. I thought he was joking because he couldn't get it to work. Until he started raising his voice at me. He stared by saying, "you never buy anything from me anyway", not knowing I was in last week because he was gone and his employee helped me on the $6K transaction. Not to mention I bought three other times from this place, not huge, but around $1,000 each time. He then tried to prove a point by going into his computer saying, "look you're not in here at all". Then he found my $6,000 transaction. Should have seen his face went he found that out! Even after he found out I just spent $6k, he was very rude. He was right on the other transactions though because later when I got home I checked my old receipts and the older employee, Ian put cash as my name. I have never been talked down in public before. He was so mean right in front of other people. I would never have expected this from a place I do business, and this being the owner! They do carry some brands the big-box retailers carry like Sony, but they specialize in audiophile equipment that places like Best Buy and Circuit City doesn't carry. I've been shopping at Audio Video Today for about 15 years because I think they're the best home theater store in Orange County. They carry excellent brands at several price points and the service has always been great. Recently, I stopped in to see what they had to offer for universal remote control. I've programmed my own Pronto and Universal remotes for years, but the programming software is no longer made available to end users. That's when they showed me what could be done with Control4. I have a 5.1 home theater (projector/film screen) in the living room and TVs in four other locations I wanted to control with single remotes. Two of the TVs in two different rooms are fed with the same four sources. I also have about 450 CDs ripped to FLAC on my home server which I wanted to listen to on the ceiling speakers I have installed throughout the house. I hired AV Today to simplify my life and I couldn't be happier with the results. I now have four Control4 systems all using single identical remotes, a 4 X 2 HDMI matrix switcher for the two TVs sharing four sources, a Control4 amp for my whole house speakers, a Sonos Connect for streaming music from my server, and a Sonos Play:5 wireless speaker in the backyard. They even added a device to correct an audio sync problem between my home theater speakers and the whole-house speakers. Very knowledgeable about the products they sell. I bought a Rega turntable and Jolida phono preamp to try to satisfy my vinyl craving. When the turntable arrived, there were two major defects that made it pretty much unusable. AV Today gave me the option of exchanging or taking a refund. I chose the refund. Without the turntable, I had no use for the phono preamp, so they refunded that too, which was actually a pleasant surprise because their written policy is that All Sales are Final. it's nice to see that level of customer service.
