Today is our 32nd Anniversary. I wanted to celebrate at somewhere nice. I decided to try Porter's . This is our 2st time. Ot was very elegant. They put a lot of effort in making this an upscale restaurant. Customer service was exceptional. Grace was our server. She checked on us all night. She made our experience one of the best we have had. The assistant server kept our drinks full. Grace went over the specials and the vegetable of the dau. She even brought us a complimentary cake for our anniversary. The food was great. For starters we got the pepperoni bruschetta. It was delicious. The presentation was amazing. The steak was very tender. I got the Porter's signature grill pepperloin and baked potato. It came with their signature mustard sauce on the side. The steak was so tender that I cut it with the fork. I didn't know what to expect but everything was excellent. She got chicken marsala over whipped potatoes and green beans. She loved it. We got the 7 layers chocolate cake and cheesecake. There is plenty of free parking. I had a wonderful time. You have got to try this restaurant . read more

Absolutely phenomenal. Saturday night/Valentine's Day, so I did have a reservation - no wait to be seated. I was right in front of the fire place seated at a two top and the lights were dimly lit with soft jazz in the background. Our waiter John was very friendly and attentive. The bread was warm and meted in your mouth, the Caesar salad was different and yet so so good!! The steak was the winner of the night, flavorful, crispy on the outside melt in your mouth on the inside absolutely no mistakes there I would order again and again. The Mac and cheese + baked potato were good as well I would recommend to anyone. Bill for 2 plus a drink was around $165. read more

The steakhouse has a lot of potential however, the food came out slow. I was hoping to steak would be worth the wait however it was under seasoned and possibly not the best cut. The sides are good, ambience is great. Also, the service was good, but it really is hard to be a good server when you have to kill an hour and a half time. I went to dinner at Porter's Steakhouse, with a friend. I ordered Chicken Marsala dinner. The chicken dry and tasteless. The mashed potatoes were good. The gravy was good on top. They also served carrots on the side. The carrots had a glaze on them, but, they were basically uncooked, they were hard to eat and I had to use a knife and fork to cut a piece off. I sent them back to kitchen to be cooked more. However, when they came back to my table, they were hard as could be, they had a glaze on them, but, again, Very hard to eat, and I did not eat them. I was very disappointed for the price of the meal at this famous restaurant. Very Disappointed!!! Reluctant to try this restaurant again. read more

I was in the mood for a nice steak dinner while traveling, and I love old time, formal supper club environments. Yelp helped me find this one. From the minute I walked in, the entire experience was wonderful. Service was excellent, the Lobster Bisque was SO good, and the Surf & Turf with Pepperloin was nothing short of amazing. I especially loved having the drawn butter served in a butter warmer. Those seem to be coming back in style, which makes me very happy. And the side of sautéed mushrooms I had instead of the two sides that normally come with the meal were delicious. My Manhattan was perfect, as was the overall ambience. I'm already planning a trip back to Collinsville to enjoy it again. What a find! read more

We ordered the pepper-loin steak and bone-in ribeye steak as well as calamari as an appetizer, and we split the wedge salad. The calamari was so-so...some pieces perfectly cooked and some overdone. Batter was coming off the calamari pieces. Wouldn't order again. The bread was delicious as was the salad. The steaks were some of the best steaks we've ever ordered anywhere. 10/10. Baked potatoes were meh. Service was good. Prices have inflated more than actual inflation even in the matter of a couple of years. Based on the steaks, we'll be back to Porter's. 25 years since we moved out of Illinois, came back to the area and had to eat at Porters. Grace & Drew made our evening a true fine dining experience! Things have changed but Porters still serves an amazing pepperloin. It wasn't even a question before we walked in that we would be taking a slice of carrot cake with us no matter how full we were. My husband and I were visiting his son for the weekend, and we decided to go out to dinner here. The restaurant is connected to a hotel, but it has its own entrance. For a Saturday night, we were seated right away, which was great. For the table to be a 4 seater, it felt a little tight, and it was only 3 of us. The decor was nice. Our waiter, who I believe was Chris, and he also was a teacher, was very nice and gave me a great recommendation for a drink, which was the lemon drop martini, and it was good. My husband and I had salmon with mushrooms orzo, and I dont like mushrooms, but it was really good, and the mash potatoes were very good as well. My stepson had a ribeye with fries, which he enjoyed. Honestly, I don't know how this place doesn't have more hype in the STL area. This place has some of the best service, wine, and steaks in the area. The staff is knowledgeable and kind. One of my favorite servers here is a teacher and I think has a graduate degree? I can't remember his name but he knocked my socks off with service that went above and beyond. We had the porters signature med. tenderloins with the shrimp. That being said, was signature and now I say delicious. Garlic Shrimp scampi cooked perfectly. Their bread/3 selection butter was great with the wine selection $60 bottle for anniversary. We have been coming for years love the ambience compared to most restaurant in this area. I met a group of friends for drinks. The bar area has lots of room and the place is beautiful. Very relaxing atmosphere with couches and tables. The bar doesn't have a menu but it seemed full stocked to make you anything you want. We were there during happy hour in which house drinks,beer and wine are $4. Porter's has been popping up on my Instagram ads promoting their happy hour from 4-6pm and since I live in Collinsville I thought I would check it out. I thought the bar was actually in the Porter's restaurant area but it is actually a few steps down toward the lobby where there is a large bar area. I ordered the sticky wings, loaded stuffed tater tots and, at the bartender's suggestion, the beef tenderloin bruschetta. I ordered a glass of sweet red wine while I waited. The bar is definitely swanky and the darkness gives it a nightlife vibe bar makes you feel you are in a lounge or club. So if you are looking for a "vibe" for your happy hour, this may be it! My food arrived in a relatively short amount of time and everything was delicious. The tater tots were loaded with cheese chives and bacon on the inside and were supersized from the tots we remember as a kid. They came with sour cream and a dipping sauce and they were delightful. For 50% off at happy hour, the $4.50 price tag was just right! The chicken wings were good too. Perfectly fried, this order of 10 drummettes and flats were seasoned and fried and tossed in a slightly sweet sticky sauce, which was quite yummy. They were served with a sauce for all you saucy folks out there, but I just like the wings. The belle of the ball was definitely what the server suggested, the tenderloin bruschetta. Artfully presented on crispy crostini (if you don't like hard bread skip this, that's my only gripe it was a little too crunchy) it had a sauce, with Bleu cheese crumbles and arugula with all that perfectly cooked beef tenderloin slices. I ate every bit of this and took home leftovers of the wings and the tots. There are no drink specials, but if you are a foodie like me, I skip the liquor or stick with 1 drink, this is a nice little time out. My husband had been there before but it was my first time. It was our 7 year anniversary, so we were celebrating a special occasion, and willing to spend the money for a nice dinner. The service was amazing, I wish I had gotten her name, because she did a terrific job. Even our water glass filler/bread guy was awesome. The ambiance is very pleasant and quiet, and the food was delicious. I had a wedge salad, and we both had the filet and shrimp scampi with whipped potatoes and brussel sprouts. Omg we were so stuffed! I wanted crème brûlée for dessert but they didn't have it so we skipped dessert. Oh, I also had a glass of pinot noir with dinner which paired nicely with my steak. We chose Porters Steakhouse for my 40th birthday celebration, and they were very accommodating over the phone regarding our questions and adjustments to the party size. The restaurant was beautiful, and the party room was perfect. Our server's name was Chris, and he was very friendly; he even lit candles and brought in an extra table for gifts. As excited as I was for this occasion, I must say the night fell short for several reasons. Unfortunately, some guests (including myself) were late to the reservation. However, those who arrived on time were left waiting in the room without being offered any beverages. To save time, we ordered all of our drinks, starters, and meals at once since we had an engagement starting a few hours later. Some guests went outside to socialize, and when we returned, there were still no beverages. We remained patient and began party games. After another 15 minutes, a server assistant brought in one loaf of bread for a group of nine, which seemed more appropriate for a table of two or four. After another 15 minutes, I left the party room to ask a server assistant about our beverages, as I could not find Chris. We decided to start the party games with just water and a loaf of bread (we requested more but it never came) 15 minutes later, Chris arrived with a couple of bottles of wine, explaining that drinks and meals were on the way and that we were going to begin with a birthday toast. I had specifically brought an expensive bottle of champagne for this, but this detail hadn't been communicated to our server. I attempted to interject but ultimately let it go since the wine was complimentary. Finally, drinks and food were served. I ordered the salmon and potatoes, and while my dish was lacking in flavor, some others said theirs was very good. We did not receive much attention beyond the assistant offering water, but no drink refills. As the night went on, we decided to start packing up since we were traveling back to St. Louis for our next event. Overall, while Chris was very nice, he should have been pulled from rotation by management to focus on his party. We felt forgotten, and the night was disappointing for the cost. Although we were told during a phone call that tickets for large parties could be separated, we noted that this would not be the case if they became busy. Nonetheless, Chris did separate the tickets for us. Despite these issues, we still tipped above average even with gratuity, although I intended to tip much more had the service been adequate. We chose this restaurant because of the great reviews but would have appreciated more consideration for our party. I would love to give Porters Steakhouse another shot but given the number of steakhouses in the St. Louis area, we probably would not return. While Chris was very nice, it seemed that other parties took priority over us. I have managed and served at various dining establishments. We always made arrangements in the front and back of the house for large parties and removed servers from the floor to offer undivided attention according to guest size. At least until they were ready to begin taking tables without their party suffering. We had a great time, but Porters, please take note of my review and make the necessary changes if you want parties to return. read more

We wanted to go to Porter's for years because we've heard how good it is. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. We had a 7 o'clock reservation and we showed up early. We were seated before seven but didn't receive our food till after eight. Everyone at our table steak was undercooked and cold. Our waiter John did not provide very good service either. This steakhouse was in the hotel I stayed for a work trip. It has a really lovely lounge area and good music. Friendly staff and a pretty bar. I ordered food and my server Ken was nice and attentive. I ordered the filet mignon at his recommendation. It came medium rare as I requested and seemed to be a pretty nice cut of meat worth the price, however it wasn't outstanding or overly flavorful, just ok. It comes with choice of baked potato or seasonal veggie. I asked to substitute a twice baked potato and server said no problem. I was dismayed when the check came and instead of charging me the difference between a baked or twice baked potato ($1) they charged me the full $6 for an extra side. I disputed this and he said they couldn't charge me only the difference for the "substitution". So basically I bought an extra side and they didn't give me the included side. Annoying. I asked about mocktails - they do not have anything particular here so I ordered a virgin Shirley temple (throwback to childhood) and Ken was kind enough to make me two free of charge. Given the two free non-alcoholic drinks I said whatever to the side "substitution" annoyance. I also tried the carrot cake- damn they didn't tell me it was basically a quarter of a cake! Huge portion so I saved some for breakfast. It was better than average carrot cake, multilayered with nuts. Not bad. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again but would give it another try given the nice ambience. Better than Colton's down the street but more expensive - you get what you pay for. read more

Came for a birthday celebration. Our waitress was delightful and the bussers were very attentive. We were a part of 7 and they sat us in a private room which was very nice. Even the manager made a point of coming to our table and to make drink recommendations after we had a few questions. Now if only the food lived up to the service. We ordered the crab cakes and coconut shrimp as appetizers. Both were very delicious. Next our salads came out. There was nothing special about these; our house salads didn't seem to have any dressing. It seemed like we waited a long time for our entrees. When they finally came out, we were pretty much disappointed. The steaks were good but not outstanding. One of the people in our party made the comment that he could have cooked that steak. The sides were even more disappointing. The roasted carrots were the vegetable of the day but they were mushy and in a candied sauce and clearly not roasted. The baked potatoes were dry. The potatoes romanoff were under cooked and the brussel sprouts were just okay. Again, none of the food was exceptionally good. Maybe my expectations were too high. But if we are going to pay an average of $90/ person to eat, I wanted every bite to be delicious. Porters just didn't live up to what we were expecting. We love supporting local, so this review is to be helpful for in the future. Upon entry, the environment was pretty standard for a steak house. Good lighting, not too loud, and the place settings were attractive. Our server was amazing. He was descriptive and attentive. However the issue was the food. Presentation was nice overall. The downfall was the way it was prepped. My husband ordered the ribeye medium rare with a side of mushrooms. The temperature was incorrect, and arrived rare. There was not a true sear/crust on the outside. The cut consisted of grisly fat that was difficult to chew. He wanted to spit it out but didn't want to leave a surprise in a cloth napkin. The mushrooms tasted like rubber and had zero seasoning as well. We have had a similar experience before here but it had been a few years ago so we wanted to try it again, unfortunately it didn't convince to come back a third time. read more

Porters Part 2 - The Dining Room Experience !!! This is my second review of Porters Steakhouse in Collinsville. In my first review, I had spoken about my experience eating at the hotel bar which serves food from Porters Steakhouse. My goal after that most delicious Port Wine Braised Short Rib meal was when I was back in the area was to see what the full dining experience was like in the restaurant itself. I walked into Porters just before 5:00 pm during my visit. I was seated in a corner section of the restaurant at my request to take in the full view inside Porters. My server who was a very lovely soul came to the table and we started the dining experience. The inside of Porters is what I expected, it was a classic steakhouse set up with elegant furnishings, from the tables, tablecloths, the reddish mahogany wooden and beige tones that envelop the room, with classic leather high back chairs and patterned corner seats. My table was set with clean linens, upscale cutlery and spotless glassware. My server came to the table and we started to talk about some of Porter's classic dishes and I settled on the Blackened Shrimp which is served with cajun tomato cream & crostini. Next up was the classic Porters dish, the famous Porter's Signature Grilled PepperLoin which is a whole beef tenderloin that is marinated for forty-eight hours, and rolled in a peppercorn herb mixture, grilled to perfection, sliced into medallions and served with their signature mustard sauce. I also ordered a nice red to go with my meal. While I was waiting for the food out came a hot fresh bread basket, with a piping hot loaf of sliced homemade bread. The bread is served with three types of butter, which were very enjoyable with the bread and quite an agreeable complement to the bread. The shrimp is served on the crostini topped with shaved hard cheese, and you literally get stuck hoping the cheese melts while hoping the shrimp doesn't get cold. It only took about a minute before I dove in. The shrimp were plump and still hot and went very well with cajun cream. The Pepperlion as you could imagine was the highlight of the meal. It came out exactly to the doneness that I had ordered right through every piece. The marinade and the pepper you could taste but at the same time did not overwhelm the tenderloin. On the plate was perfectly steamed asparagus which was still a little on the crunchy side but had a softness to it as well. The asparagus was topped with the same shaved hard cheese as the shrimp and was a nice touch. The tenderloin was adorned with a fresh sprig of rosemary to finalize the presentation of the plate and was accompanied by a side of the homemade mustard sauce. This was one of the best tenderloins I've ever had and I've had many at some of the top steakhouses in places like Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia and Toronto to name few. Porters' version is right up there with the best. My visit accomplished all that I had set out to do, enjoy the full dining experience, try some classics from the restaurant menu and have a great meal. I hope this review outlines what you can and should expect from a great steakhouse. Porter's is a great steakhouse, If you get the chance to visit, try some of the classics that I reviewed or try something you will enjoy. The next time I'm back I'm going to try a steak. read more

Decided to try this place out for a nice date night. Walking in the restaurant it was very elegant and romantic perfect for a nice anniversary date. The waiter was so nice and bubbly and explained the menu very well as this was our first time there. I ordered the lamb lollipops which was very good. Very tender and satisfying. First time here and food is excellent!! Wife, son, girlfriend, and I ordered the Calamari which is one of the best I tasted. Very crispy,not rubbery. Also the Escargot was excellent. Bread and 3 different types of butter was great. I ordered the Filet Oscar rare and excellent!! The manager comped us desserts because the pasta dishes were taking a bit longer. We've been coming here for years. The last few experiences have caused us to take them off the list. Tonight we had reservations for 7pm. They were out of calamari and buns. It took over an hour to get our food. Well half of our food. The other half showed up 15 minutes later. 3 of the 4 steaks were cooked not kind of wrong but completely wrong. Since we waited over an hour for food my other two friends that ordered steak just ate the completely over cooked shoe leather. I sent my bone in rib-eye that did jot have a bone back because I ordered it medium rare and it came out well done. The new steak they brought out also was NOT a bone in rib-eye and was so rare it was barely even seared. At this point we were 2 hours in so I sent it back. 10 minutes later the waitress asked if I would like them to re-fire it. I said no, we've already been here 2 hours. In the past if there was ever an error they always cared to make it right. This time the waitress talked like she was doing something really nice by taking the steak they screwed up twice that I did not eat off the bill. No manager showed up and no one seemed to really Care that everything was wrong. No discount offered for the other 2 steaks that were wrong. I understand that restaurants are struggling right now but for no one to act like they really care if we ever come back after all the years we've supported the business is just inexcusable. read more

I bypassed the appetizer menu which only had 4 items. I had the lobster bisque which tasted good but had absolutely no pieces of lobster. My wife had the $10 salad which had a small portion of greens with some wilted lettuce. I ordered the $65 22oz bone-in ribeye, which had 50% fat and absolutely no flavor. The only thing I could taste was the charbroil. The server asked if there was anything she could do to make it better, the only thing I could come up with was steak sauce, which did nothing. I boxed up the leftover steak to feed to my dogs. The worst tasting steak I've had in a long time. Very disappointed. read more

Terrible service. During a race weekend during which the hotel was totally booked, The restaurant was under-staffed. We checked in at the desk around at 6:30 on Sunday evening. The lady informed us that it would be at least one to one and one half hours to which we agreed. While waiting in the bar we checked back every half hour per the lady's instructions. At about 8:00 we checked in and were told that we could not eat at the restaurant because they were closing. We found this to be very un-professional. read more

Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes appetizer, good but I have made better with a can of crab meat from Walmart. I ordered a 10oz Felet, Rare cook. One of the EASIEST cuts to cook rare. Nope, it was medium. My wife ordered the ribeye, Medium.... Nope it was Rare. How can you mess up a medium cook on a thin ribeye? For dessert, we wanted the carrot cake. Server informed us that it was stone cold and hard, recommended we order the 7-layer chocolate cake. So horrible we asked for it to be removed from out bill. It seems the only reason this restaurant is open is because it's in a hotel and the majority of patrons are from out of town and don't know better.
