I've been wanting to check out this restaurant and finally had the opportunity today for lunch. Everyone is so friendly and the dining area was neat and clean, and so was the restroom. As for the food, it was delicious. I got the fried chicken, mac n cheese, and sweet potatoes with cornbread. There was so much food that I had enough for dinner. My daughter and best friend got the fried whiting, mac n cheese, and greens and they thought it was amazing. The only thing I would like to see different is a soda machine. What Delaware has needed!!!!!!!! Black and family owned My go-to. I've tried most items on the menu. The salmon is always perfect (try the cheesesteak!), the yams are always just sweet enough, the shrimp and grits are delicious, and the swai and whiting are always fried just right. I have finally found a fabulous soul food place near me with outstanding food. The location is very clean, Aunt Vonda was very friendly and accommodating and the food is amazing! I ordered the lamb chops, chicken wings, whiting, Mac and cheese, cabbage and string beans. The food was hot, the portion size was very good and everything was seasoned well. I missed out on the bread pudding but I will definitely be going back to try more options. This is not a fast food restaurant. First let me start by saying Aunt Vonda's Kitchen has excellent food and the two young ladies up front are very good at their jobs they really know how to cater to the customers as they wait for their food. I was very pleased with the food, but I am a professional chef at Bowie State University of Maryland and I've been in the industry for over 25 years so I must say to the older gentleman that works in the back of the house, my brother you work in whats called a open kitchen people are gonna look in an open kitchen and just because we look doesn't mean you should insult your customers you must know that long as you work in a open kitchen you will be looked at my brother so my sincere advice to you is to ask whoever is in charge or the owner to close the kitchen window so you aren't offended when customers look through the open window of the kitchen at the workers. I hope you get your professionalism a little better and don't influence the younger people who work their or any of the other workers to take your attitude because it is a very bad business practice. Went yesterday spent $140 and threw away all 4 meals when we got home! We waited over 40 min to get food. So if you order I suggested ordering ahead. My Mac had what looked like a curly hair in it so I didn't eat it but everyone else said that was the only part of the meal they liked. We all got chicken and it was over cooked. I could only tolerate a half a piece. I was disappointed because they did give you large portions, but being overcooked, it didn't taste good. The sweet potatoes were very sweet. I usually love sweet potatoes or yams but all I could taste was the sweetness and not the potatoes.. We also got the Bussin seafood fries they were just OK . The container was full to the top with fries so you could barely put any toppings on it and after you eat the toppings in a little bit of fries, there was nothing at the bottom so it was just cold fries. We also got two pieces of cake which honestly weren't that bad and a very large portion for only five dollars. so since I did not eat macaroni cheese, the best part of the meal was the cake. Ive only ever had their takeout and I hate judging a place from takeout as it's never as good as sitting in the restaurant. I was shocked at how good the food was. We had the fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, fries and cornbread. Everything was so good. The macaroni and cheese had the right amount of sweetness to it. The yams were not too sweet. The fries were seasoned well. The star of the show was the lamb cheesesteak. The meat was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. I've never thought of using lamb instead of beef but it was amazing.
