I got the NY style lamb gyro... it weighed about 5 Lbs ! Came with salad & plenty of lamb pieces over, I believe 2 different kinds of rice... topped with pieces of pita & the most delicious white sauce... like tzatziki but sweeter & a red hot sauce. All of it as a whole was So freaking good ! Plenty for 2 meals ! Hubby ordered the cheeseburger & fries ... burger had a bit of heat on the sandwich. If I lived local I'd order from here everyday ! I found this little hole in the wall place on Yelp. It was very good! Especially on a cold and wet day when I was quite famished and wanted something spicy to warm my bones when I got home. The New York lamb on a bed of rice and covered with sauce was just what I needed. The server was very nice and polite snd he gave me a cup of hot chai tea while I waited. We've ordered from them a few times and I always enjoy the food. Today was my first time stopping in and I was impressed with how clean they keep the s restaurant (even the kitchen area). The owners are very friendly and treat you like guests in their home, not just customers in their store. There are plenty of options for lunch and dinner, and they even have some family-style options. The portions are hearty and huge--definitely leftovers. The food is like crack. Ahmad (the owner with the cool hair) is such a sweet guy. I'm gonna tell you about these things. First: what kind of food? They basically mainly make kebab (super tender marinated meat chunks grilled), kofta (super tasty meat that's been ground up with herbs/spices, wrapped around a flat skewer, and grilled), and shishlik (I think it's like chopped kofta with sweet onions, mushrooms, etc.) Okay, now about my experiences: The first time I had their beef kebabs, I was like, "Damn, this is the best steak I've had in a really long time!" Even though it's chunks. They were super tender and flavorful. Every bite was just perfectly cooked and seasoned. It came with two kinds of seasoned rice that complement the meats. I'm Asian so I'm usually suspicious of flavored rices but this was great. It was a perfect balance between being flavorful (not bland) and not overpowering the meats. It's not just a throwaway side. The white sauce is also crack. I don't know what's in it, but I do know you can buy it in small tubs for home use, and I have. It goes with everything. The food is so good I think I went back 3 or 4 times in one week. You won't want to eat anything else. All other food will become bland to you. You might try one thing and feel like it's so good you never want to try another dish (even though they're all fantastic). That's fine. You can order literally anything on the menu and it'll be great. (But why order the cheeseburger when you can get a gyro instead???) About them: I really hope people try this place because the food is great, and the people are so kind. Ahmad started this place after working in his father's restaurant (same name, same great food, down the road) for many years. It is family owned and operated. Ahmad has always been super friendly to us, even when we came in like 20 minutes before closing, he didn't treat us any different or act like we were being a pain or stopping him from getting home on time. He was 100% happy to see us and cook something up for us, not like staff at chain restaurants or even just bigger restaurants in town. He's really enthusiastic about the restaurant and giving excellent customer service. There is deliciously sweet hot milk tea available for free to customers while they wait. I worked with them to get them to cater my honor society's initiation banquet. They were overwhelmingly chosen by a vote of the membership! That food disappeared, even the vegetarian option (falafel shishlik). They were great as caterers: the soda was cold and the food was hot and tasty (with extra sauce), and they provided all the serving utensils, plates, forks, and cups we needed. They will totally work with you. It's takeout... but it's the best takeout you'll ever have in your life. I can basically guarantee it. The food was great, we ordered a falafel sandwich and platter 9 (chicken rice and chick peas). It all tasted good, the falafel was especially good. Often I find falafel are too dry, but these were not so. The staff were super friendly. It's primarily takeout but there is a counter with maybe 8 seats to eat in also. Everything was clean. I think the atmosphere of the restaurant could use music playing. I did not rate 5 stars because of all of the disposable items present. If you're looking to reduce your waste or environmental impact you would need to make the effort to bring reusable utensils and reusable water bottles of your own. Additionally, be aware the food is all serve to takeout in foam containers. read more
