busy busy, one of the only things open at 6am

I landed at Chicago O'Hare International Airport early in the morning and had about an hour to occupy while my friend flies in, so I wandered around the terminal for a snack. One of the only options at 6am was Auntie Anne's and the line curved into the walk way. I was able to convince the crowd to curve the land with me so we weren't blocking people's way. The selection looked fresh and full at this time of the morning. There was many people in front of me, and yet when I got to the front of the line all of the selections were still there. I think they do a better job with their inventory and sales than my local mall. Obviously it's the airport so the prices are even more ridiculous than usual. I got an order of the Pretzel Mini Dogs ($8.99) with a light Cream Cheese dip ($1.79). Okay okay I know it sounds weird but my friend used to work at an Auntie Anne's back in college and they had me try it. Somehow the combination works! I also splurged and got my favorite Vitamin Water ($3.99), the yellow "Energy" one. I'm not sure about the food but my Vitamin Water is more than double what I usually pay. Service was transactional. I get it, it's morning time. Can't expect everyone to be a peppy morning person. I was just amused when the tip screen came up with these ridiculous percentages. If it was $1, $2, $3 I get those selections... but they were definitely not nice or above and beyond enough for me want to tip for a quick item grab and ring up. I would have preferred to try something new that I don't have back at home while I travel but 6am doesn't have many options. My flight home is a normal time so I don't think I'll need to come back here.

When in Chicago, touristy folks would get a Chicago dog. I was briefly at Chicago O'Hare (ORD) International Airport on a layover. You'd think that I'd get a Chicago dog, right? Um, no. I love hot dogs. Whenever I'm at ORD, I tend to scout Auntie Anne's because I know that it has pretzel dogs. The full-sized ones. Most Auntie Anne's do mini pretzel dogs only. I was in Concourse C. I had arrived at a C gate and I was fortunate to be departing from a C gate to get to Minneapolis-Saint Paul. I spotted this Auntie Anne's and knew that I needed to get my lunch here. There wasn't a huge lineup. Perfect! I had the nicest woman help me with my order. I actually got two pretzel dogs because I love them so much. I also got a medium Diet Coke fountain drink. I paid with a credit card. I also tipped because she was the only person behind the counter doing everything and she did it all efficiently. It was impressive. She got my my two pretzel dogs and Diet Coke. I thanked her. She wished me a great day. I reciprocated and found a place to sit down steps away. I'd say that roughly ten minutes later, a colleague came over to help. This woman got a break and eventually came back thirty minutes later. It's fun people-watching while you stuff your face and kill some time during a layover. The pretzel dogs were yummy. They always hit the spot. The pretzel dough around the dog was chewy, lightly salted, and perfectly done. The hot dog was plump and so good. I was a happy camper. The Diet Coke washed everything down. It had the right amount of ice. It was great. While eating and drinking, I was watching a YouTube video with three Minnesota Wild players, all Swedes (Eriksson Ek, Gustavsson, and Brodin) eat hot wings with Ryan Carter, a retired Wild player. With earbuds on, I laughed so hard watching this ten-minute video -- perhaps too hard in a public setting. Free wifi. Yummy pretzel dogs. Refreshing Diet Coke. Great laughs. Good times. I feel like my goal is to visit all Auntie Anne's at ORD has begun. This one is a keeper. I'd return for more good eats. (87)

For starters it's located in the airport so you already know prices are higher than what you'd receive at different locations. There was no line when I went so the transaction went rather quickly. The employees are not the friendliest and they make the transaction felt rushed with a hint of rude. They don't offer the small version of the pretzel nuggets and it seems so odd either a large or nothing. Especially when they have the smaller cups. I ordered a cinnamon sugar pretzel and it must have been sitting in the warmer for awhile. It wasn't hot or even warm which is a bummer because auntie Anne's pretzels when warm are so delicious. I can skip out on this location. Not worth it

They advertise a small ($7.99) and regular ($8.99) size pretzel bite. We order 2 small sizes and were rung up as regular. The old white lady tried to tell us even though it said regular at the register and matched the regular price on the menu, she was in fact getting us size small. She initially claimed it was taxes or something. The flamboyant black worker spoke up and said we don't offer a size small at this location because it's a small location. That explanation made a little more sense, although we were confused because we clearly saw other things in a small container, but if true they shouldn't advertise a size small if no small is actually available. On top of the attitude and the feeling we were getting ripped off, they gave us the wrong order.

Came here for a quick snack. After getting my food, I realized these pretzel bites were old and tough. I ended up throwing the rest away. Save yourself $15, go somewhere else.

It would be nice if the staff would take their earbuds out so they can accurately hear my order instead of giving me the wrong kind.

Avoid this place. Pretzels are always stale. They refuse to stock smaller size cups of bites so they can upcharge for the large.

Finding good German food that hasn't been Americanized is difficult and few places actually serve German cuisine like it is in Germany with their high food quality over there. So I ordered the daily special that was Jägerschnitzel (hunter's schnizel/breaded pork tenderloin with a mushroom gravy or sauce) and for an appetizer I ordered jalapeño poppers along with the authentic German goulash soup and pumpernickel bread were very good. The Jägerschnitzel sauce that is a mushroom sauce was a little unique but very good. I especially liked the spatzle noodles and the red cabbage (rotkohl) and it's just like I would get in Germany so I loved both side dishes a lot. Cool, old-timey feel to the restaurant and the service is impeccable as well. I left full and was sorry I didn't have room for the strudel they make in house, maybe next time!

Chicken Paprikash with spaetzle and red cabbage was great. I started with a cup of goulash soup and dark rye bread. Fantastic. A complementary aperitif was served at the end. Excellent. Great pictures on the walls. Great posters on the walls. Bar with high tops out front low top tables a couple stairs up into the back. Great atmosphere. Plenty of German beer here good stuff on tap. The wine list also looked very good. I stuck with an HB and it was just fine. The cost of the food and drink I would say is on par with most places however, this is all home-cooked food. A far step up above many places. Definitely worth a visit.

Divide up your entree. As each plate passes, drop a portion and pass it on. If you really don't like something, either give it back, find someone at the table who wants it or just finish it anyway. Now you know what to order next visit, when it's just the two of you. The food here is surprisingly good. Not a bad dish on the menu and no shortage of smiles from the staff. Our waitress started off a bit rocky, but really brought it around and rocked the place. Two words, BIG TIP (even though we made her job easier). The steins stayed full and the other drinks flowed very nicely. Everyone ate and drank like kings and enjoyed our last night together. The bill for the evening I'm told was only $300 for 8 guests. Factory in the heavy drinking, I'd say that was more than reasonable. 08/25

The reviews advertised authentic German food. As a German I had to try it. The potato pancakes were a good start, tasted like mom used to make. The Platter had a lot of food. I don't know what region this place is from, the sauerkraut and Blaukraut were not Bavarian, the Spätzle felt ready made and not home made. The Bratwurst was too fine for me, I'm thinking north German. The strudel was good tho. The service was fantastic! From host to server they took care of me and made sure I wanted for nothing, so I can't complain there. Decor wise this looks like what you'd imagine a German restaurant looking like in the US. Lots of banners advertising beer and German flags hanging on the walls with a collection of steins everywhere you look. Overall it's not "authentic" for me, but the food tasted good and the service was exceptional.

After work, I decided to go to my train station where there is an Auntie Anne's to get the free promo. The manager, whose name is Tasha took my order. I told her I came to redeem for my free original pretzel. She nastily told me that I must download the Auntie Ann app first to get it. Now, I had about 5 minutes until my train to go home was about to leave. I downloaded the app and signed up using Facebook. It still wouldn't work. I asked one of the other workers to help me because each time I would try to talk to Tasha about the issue, she acted like she didn't hear me or would talk to another employee and I would be ignored. He did try to help me but still nothing. I tried everything - I got a message saying that the code has already been used which was incorrect. It was very frustrating and I had no help. About 20 customers went through the line while I'm still there trying to get the app to work. It smelled good in there, I saw though the clear glass the pretzel offerings and really wanted one. I had been there about 10 minutes and ultimately missed my train as a result but I figured it would soon work out. Finally after trying a myriad of times, I told the manager "Can't you just give me the pretzel for the inconvenience?" And she told me "No, I need a barcode". So, no free pretzel, I missed my train trying to get this to work, my next train wasn't until in 20 minutes and nasty customer service from a manager at that. She definitely wanted to let me know that she knows what she's doing having have worked there for 7 years but clearly she doesn't know how to give good customer service. I later found out that many Metro customers were having the same issues as me. I'm pretty tech savvy so I knew the issue wasn't on my end but the manager wasn't trying to be understanding in the least. I will never return here. I don't care how good the food is, if you treat me bad, my money doesn't deserve to be here.
