Came here for drinks with an old family friend and her baby a couple days ago. Great selection of draft beers and a fun vibe over all. Lots of open seating and enough room for a stroller (!!). Good the Prost cinnamon draft (name?) - honestly really good. If you like a flavored beer this one tasted like cinnamon toast crunch which was interesting. Server told me it's been on draft for like 10 years or so. Servers were attentive and friendly, asked a couple questions about the menu and they were pretty helpful. German style beer hall in Lincoln Park. What a nice find. The seating is long wooden tables with benches. The ceilings and walls are decked with German paraphernalia. Staffed walked around to check on your order. The beer imported with a nice variety of breweries and styles. There are multiple volume options, even das Boot. Wurst platter came with all the traditional accoutrements. You can pick and choose traditional flavors with modern ones. Small is plenty to share with 2 people. Prost was meant to be our Saturday night watering hole and it ended up with plates of food everywhere. Sorry but mediocre food, at best. The huge pretzel was great but the schnitzel was wrong. Strange taste and thicker than usual which has a direct effect on the final product. The smorgasbord was good. Plenty of quality beers and an authentic atmosphere. The cider is excellent, even if you don't fit into the whole Bavarian vibe. Hit or miss here. Like...the tables are sticky. You know that drives me nutso. I've got to admit, I have a soft spot in my heart for places that decorate for the seasons. Lovely pub, ample seating options, friendly, personable and proactive bartender. He kep the drinks flowing and made great recommendations for a seasonal cocktail (peppermint White Russian) , seasonal beers that taste like Christmas and yummy snacks. prost is super fun!! it's a pretty big bar and it's very dive-y which made it the perfect place to get some beers , a huge pretzel, and play cards with friends. i got the german radler which was pilsner mixed with lemon-lime soda - i wasn't sure what to expect but it ended up being huge and delicious which is exactly how i like my drinks. we split the full pretzel and omg, you have to get it in case you're debating. it's just an amazing pretzel and all of the dips are really good too. service was pretty good/normal i would say. overall a fun spot id definitely check out if you're in the area and want to feel a little german for a night read more

Great bar in the Lincoln Park area service German style food. We stopped in and were very impressed with the beer selection. I am a big fan of Hefeweizen beer and they had multiple different heffes on tab, which is very unusual in Chicago bars. I ended up getting a burger. The cheeseburger was decent, little more greasy than I would. The bar tender working that night was very helpful and we got our beer and food fast. Great selection of Beer on Tap, but if you're coming here to get your German Schnitzel fix, think again. Grew up in the German household! Now I consider myself a connoisseur on German food in how it's prepared. We also went to many different German restaurants here in the city. Like "Zum Lieber Augustine, Laschets, Chicago Brauhaus, Resis Bierstübe, and then later years Himmels. The Chicken Schnitzel nor pork schnitzel is pounded to make it nice and thin. The breading had a vinegar taste to it and it is not pan fried in "clarified butter". It must be deep-fried or cooked in some oil since all the edges were burnt. The fries were lukewarm like they just microwaved them. They weren't crispy. The Spätzel seemed to be taking out of the fridge, microwaved and crisped in oil. Now you taste the oil not the dough. They're supposed to be light and fluffy. The Potatoe Pancakes, we're a flat oily (deep fried) flying saucer! It came in 2 and you could see the rock salt on top, making it very salty and of course, not being able to taste, the potato!. They deep fried it in the same oil, where they made French Fries! you. Have been here a couple of times and let's start with the service - it's excellent. The bartenders here a super friendly, make good recommendations and serve you quickly even when it is packed for game days. Next, the food is equally as good with portions to put it lightly, are more than generous. My wife and I attempted to do the combo pretzel platter that was just immense. Starting with the huge pretzel that was fresh and warm it also included fries, schnitzel strips and cheese curds. We didn't come close to finishing it! In terms of ambiance - not surprisingly it was very german themed with a lot of TVs, large group tables and even a slew of board games to enjoy. Prost was a very pleasant surprise. True, the "decor" looks like they raided a warehouse for old wooden furniture that hadn't been used since the 1970s. But the food was excellent -- juicy and flavorful European-style sausages presented on an ENORMOUS salad platter with fresh-tasting red cabbage, cucumbers, roasted red peppers, potatoes, sauerkraut, cornichons, and strips of ham. Paired with an excellent mug of German heffenweissen beer, it made for a very satisfying meal -- with enough veggies left over for a full lunch the next day! Ok it is tough deciding what to rate this place. If it wasn't for the prices I would give it a 5/5 for sure. I love coming here for the fun selection of beers they have on tap.... but slight problem, a stein of imported beer is like 30 bucks lol. I love the Weihenstephaner Vitus, and you hardly ever find it, so it is worth it every now and then but better off going to Whole Foods and getting it in bottle for $3.75. The best deal on the menu is the pretzel it is fricking huge, it could probably feed a family of 4 lol. Love the atmosphere overall, and they have fun trivia on Sundays so I definitely will keep coming back. read more

I sat with four people and we split a half order pretzel and got our own entries. The pretzel was plenty and we finished it between ourselves. People also ordered the schnitzel, which was huge and we all had leftovers of the schnitzel and fries. Next time I'd recommend splitting a few entrees if you want to finish everything in the moment. Otherwise, it was perfect for getting two meals out of it. The server was really nice. They were a bit busy because it seemed like there was only one guy, but he was quick to greet us and get our order. It definitely felt like a German experience with the wide wooden benches and bar-like atmosphere. I liked how it was calm and inviting while still maintaining the bar quality! Prost is a great German restaurant for a large group. This beer hall has tons of seating and some of the tables look large enough to fit a party of 15 or more. With tons of beer on tap in all different sizes there is no lack of good drinks and a menu filled with good authentic German food. The food we had was very good. We had a party of 5 and shared the pretzel combo to start. What we didn't realize was how much food this would be! The pretzel itself was about the size of a large pizza and once we finished we realized we were stuffed and that none of us needed an entree. I'm a sucker for a soft pretzel and this one didn't disappoint. It was soft and fluffy with a buttery outside and was served with a delicious oniony beer cheese. Inside the pretzel there were French fries, cheese curds and schnitzel strips with an array of sauces. The cheese curds were tasty but had a bit too much breading and was lacking on the cheese portion. There were large clumps of batter with no cheese and some of the part with cheese were all clumped together so a couple of grabs and they were gone pretty quickly. The ranch they were served with, although very thin and runny, was absolutely delicious. The schnitzel strips were also very tasty. Perfectly crispy and tender and the 3 different mustards were a great complement to them. There was a whole grain mustard, spicy and yellow mustard. My favorite was the spicy! The fries were good, and a good vessel for the mustards, ranch and cheese sauce but nothing to write home about. After this board we ordered some desserts to shared for the table. We got a brownie and an apple pie. The brownie was very rich and the apple pie was tasty but sort of soggy. Both of the desserts were served warm but the inside of both were cold which was a disappointment and leads me to believe they had just been zapped in the microwave. The brownie had a cold inside and cold chocolate chips. Had it been warm all the way through I think both would have been a lot better. Another disappointment was the service. Our server was not present often and every time we needed something we had to wait a while and wave him down. When our food came it was dropped off and he left us with no silverware so we had to rip apart piping hot schnitzel with our hands. Once an order was placed it took a long time even for a couple of beers to come out. For a place that calls itself a beer hall I would think pouring a couple of pints shouldn't take all that long. Overall I really enjoyed Prost and would certainly go back again. I just hope for a bit better service next time. read more

I have been coming to Prost since it's original iteration from previous owners back in the mid early 2000s. It was closed down for a prolonged time before being revived by new owners and has existed in its current iteration ever since. The original Prost was great for what it was- a dank German beer hall for college kids that wanted more than a sports bar but still wanted to get riproaring drunk on some higher quality beer. But it was dark, smelled of spilled beer on its sticky floors, and frequently had crappy service. The new iteration has embraced what a place like Prost is while improving the place a great deal. Much cleaner, much brighter inside, and much better service .They still have some great European and European inspired beers on the menu and you can still order a liter of beer as big as your head, or a boot for that matter to get you riproaring drunk. Prost is a great time with the right companions. They have some great German themed snacks on the menu, and the service is good. Great location in Lincoln park. Great spot to go hang out with your friends and watch the game or chat or play a board game while sampling some great beers you might not find anywhere else in Lincoln park. read more

Sunday trivia night at Prost is a blast, and honestly the wurst board is 100% the way to go. The small board with two wursts is already pretty large. I personally LOVE the Sheboygan wurst. The relishes are such pleasurable acidic palette cleansers--cute little gherkin pickles and sauerkraut. The ham and warm potato salad are delicious too! The server was attentive.
