Not good with allergies. Ordered something custom. They made it incorrectly, and disregarded my allergies I informed them of. This ended up with me having an allergic reaction and my friend with the same allergies having an allergic reaction. Staff is also rude. The vibe is really uncomfortable. read more

I happened to visit today at the location here in Agawam (my previous visit was when it was in West Springfield) & this is an interesting one but I should let you know when is going on. When you come in they give you a menu & you order such items & you pay beforehand & then they go to work & I selected coffee & waffles & bacon (menu is sort of low items plus place I wish had individual tables for low people turn in )& when you get the order order it's in a box. For the coffee they have disposable cups or mugs that you can use (strange way to do it in my opinion) but they had cold water station in close proximity. Adorable country cottage vibe. It was quite busy when we arrived but the line moved quickly. The staff were all nice and attentive. The whole restaurant is gluten free which is awesome. They had a vegan wrap and side salad that tasted healthy and filling. They have many vegan options in the bakery section and they are labeled which is fantastic. I tried the cider donut and strawberry shortcake cupcake. The donut part was very good but I thought there was way too much sugar topping. I had to scrape some off. The cake was good but I couldn't eat the frosting. It tasted like chemicals to me for some reason. I'm also picky about frosting. I wanted to try the cinnamon roll but someone had ordered the last one at the same time as me so I gave it to them. I'd try some of their other items when they are vegan. I would love to try the tiramisú and cannoli if and when they are vegan. I love that this place exists. It's not difficult to offer vegan items especially sandwiches and salads. Gluten free food that is delicious. I am gluten and dairy free and it was so exciting to have delicious food at this cafe. I enjoyed a cup of soup and one of their muffins. Auntie Cathie's Kitchen is a great place for breakfast or lunch. I have eaten here many times over the years, and I am never disappointed. It is easy to get to by car with plenty of parking. The warm inviting interior, with a collection of chairs and tables that do not match (but are comfortable!), is pleasant, and the staff are friendly. You order at the counter, and they bring food out to you at the table. They have many vegan and gluten free selections, and many soup options. They have specials on the blackboard that are not listed on their standard menu. All the portions are huge! I had the egg sandwich today, but I have tried soups and many other sandwich types over the years. The ingredients are always fresh and healthy. I have never gone home hungry. Sit back and enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee with a friend, while you wait for your order! Don't rush; this is a cozy restaurant to relax, sit back, and enjoy a filling comfort meal. Name a new breakfast or brunch spot and I'll be there. When you walk into Auntie Cathie's Kitchen it feels like you have wandered into a quaint bed and breakfast. It is decorated with cute rustic paints and artwork by local elementary school students. Although Cathie's does not do reservations, my friends and I were able to grab a table within five minutes of our arrival. The one reason for 4/5 stars was the fact that the wait staff was rather disorganized and our orders too a bit longer than expected to prepare. I do understand that weekends are usually busier for most restaurants. Anywho, I ordered the homemade blueberry waffles with fresh berries, whipped cream, and PMS. Came on my lunch break to try the vegan falafel wrap and it did not disappoint! The wrap had a lot of flavor and came with a choice of side. I got a small salad which was basic but fresh and also very good. The place was fairly easy to find and had ample parking. Inside was cute and had a lot of seating available. Auntie's Cathie's from West Springfield which is my favorite breakfast spot ever has opened a gluten free and vegan friendly bakery at the Cooper's Commons landmark location on Main Street in Agawam. Cash only. Open Wed-Fri only 8am to 2pm. I met up with a friend here for coffee recently. At this early stage it's still pretty bare bones. There were 4 large tables for seating and otherwise it's quite empty. Coffee is self serve. There are two pastry boxes filled with delicious cupcakes, cookies, yogurt parfaits and pre-made salad. Items available were a little scarce on our visit and I'm sure more items will be added eventually to make it worth the trip here but as the web site says this location will not be a full restaurant. Much like the West Springfield location the style is mismatched/eclectic which makes you feel relaxed. The location is rustic and beautiful. Wishing the new location much success! read more

Came here with some friends for a late breakfast and we all enjoyed our meals. When we arrived the place was crowded and we had to wait awhile, but most breakfast places are super busy during morning hours. Service was good, food was yummy, and portions sizes are very big, I couldn't finish my giant pancake. I'm a huge pancake lover and this one was very good, it had various berries inside with powdered sugar on top with maple syrup, yum yum. When I found out I had celiac disease a couple months before my wedding, Cathie saved the day by making my wedding cake and catering brunch on my wedding day. My bridal party was a little skeptical when I told them all the food that morning would be gluten free, but they all enjoyed it the day of. To address some things other reviews have mentioned... Cathie can sometimes sound a little rushed when talking to her, but that's just because they are so busy! She is a super nice person! And things are expensive there because it's a dedicated gluten free/allergy friendly place. As a baker myself I have been discovering just how stinking expensive it is to make safe, tasty, gluten free stuff. And it's really not that expensive compared to other bakeries! I ordered a cheese, ham, bacon, onion omelet, which came with Texas sized 7 grain toast, I subbed home fries with a fresh fruit cup. The omelet was fluffy, full of flavor and the toast was amazing, the baker that makes that bread knows his craft! We have been going to Auntie Cathie's for years and were more than willing to take the trip to Agawam as the place is adorable and warm. I get that they have limited the menu, but the choices are just not very good anymore. We had the blueberry pancake bake and other items, including the breakfast sandwich which is still really good, but the pancakes were AWFUL. My son said he could taste baking powder or baking soda, and he's not even really sure what they are or what they do. And there were almost NO blueberries. I am a huge fan of breakfast. Take a look at my reviews, and my favorite reviews are of breakfast places, especially those who offer gluten-free options, by choice not by restriction. The café is set up kitchen style, like if you were at home with tables and normal chairs. You'll be waited on by a young staff person who will seem like a younger sister. I have not read the other reviews, but everyone else I know has been here all say the same thing. The wait staff, while you sympathize with them, Are not very organized and usually one person is running around doing more jobs than it looks like they should be while somebody else is standing around not doing work. This means that sometimes, you can wait a long time for your order. Sometimes, as in what I saw, large parties can get their food in stages rather than at once, meaning in a 15 minute period of time, I saw a table of eight people get served over 15 minutes individually. That was a bit odd. The people who were served first were trying to be polite and wait while their food go cold. But, the wait is definitely long no matter who you ask. Getting back to the food, they had some good specials including a delicious omelette that my love ordered. I believe I went with the simpler eggs over medium and toast option. The food was fine for what we ordered. One nice thing that you notice, is that on the wall they show some of the local farms hope they get their food from, including Blossoming Acres which is a favorite of mine. Another nice thing, is that the art on the wall is very colorful and shown by local artists. So, my recommendation is to support this wonderful business if possible. I am speechless how rude the woman on the phone spoke to me early this morning. I was simply just trying to order two breakfast sandwiches. When I asked another question regarding a sandwich, she responded, "I'm busy boxing up things right now and I don't have much time to talk." She was trying to rush me off the phone and disregard my question. I'm sorry but if you are truly that busy, you shouldn't have answered the phone in the first place...very simple. My husband and I just wanted to enjoy some breakfast sandwiches after taking our dog to the vet for a concerning problem. I am also pregnant and look forward to having special treats over the weekend. Please have your staff reconsider the way they speak to paying customers. If you have a real gluten allergy this will be a bright spot for you. If you're just doing gf for health .. maybe pass. VERY expensive, so maybe just splurge once in a while for the "real thing". Wasn't impressed with the cupcakes (except the maple) and they're almost $5.00 EACH. And the apple pie we ordered for Thanksgiving was offensively gritty and the apples were spongy with a weird texture. (They had a lot of pie orders..so, maybe some shortcuts were involved). The only good part was the crumble top and the crust. And that was $30!! Yes 30, for one regular sized pie. Also it's always super busy in there..so if that makes you anxious or you're in a rush, you should be aware. Place is charming and warm and staff is usually very nice. The food is still wonderful, however, something's different with the famous pancake now - and it's good - but I'm not loving it. It doesn't look like my previous picture at all, its almost like a slightly too risen cake. My chicken salad was delicious, just wished for more. Oh, and oh my gawwdddd the citrus vinagrette was ta-die-fuh. I'm a total salad dressing snob, and this one was a winner all day long. Upon entering this charming, small restaurant, you will notice an eclectic array of chairs/tables and decorations and a large display case full of to go options (many vegan and dairy free choices which is great for those with those needs). We were quickly greeted and asked to choose our own seat. Service overall was excellent. We placed our order and waited patiently for our food. The prices are a little on the high side for breakfast, but the portions are ridiculously large, so I guess it is a fair deal. See photos for examples. Food was delicious. The breakfast sandwich I ordered had well cooked eggs (not over done), and the potatoes were well seasoned. The pancakes were very fluffy and definitely hit the spot with fresh blueberries! This restaurant lost a big star from me with for two reasons: 1) Cash only. With all due respect, this is 2017, and expecting customers to carry cash is simply absurd, and has actually cost this place business. I had attempted to come here previously for breakfast and left and went somewhere else because I did not have cash on me. Co-workers and myself have wanted to come here several other times but if the majority of people in our party do not have cash, we choose another restaurant. There really isn't any excuse anymore for this. 2) See photo for sharing charge comment. I also think this is tacky and unnecessary. For a restaurant that is vegan (arguably trying to be environmentally friendly), and serving massive portions, it is not helpful to anyone's cause for you to charge a sharing fee. Being incredibly disrespectful to one of her employees. She was chastising her (voice was raised) for the way she had stored some food item. I have zero tolerance for employers who are disrespectful to employees. It is never acceptable, and especially never acceptable in front of customers. The hostess/busser/back waiter was drying silverware (do they not have enough?) and clearing tables as if there weren't a 30 person pileup in the vestibule. Instead of seating groups that fit in the open tables, it seemed as though the hostess was waiting until a table opened that fit the size of the next group on the list. Not enough staff. Although we got our food quickly, the table behind us was seated for 40 minutes without having their order taken. It seemed as though there was only one waitress. Confusing menu - the menu by the door doesn't match the menus on the table. I was excited to get a burger but it wasn't on the menu at our table... turns out there is a different, smaller menu on weekends. The sandwiches are listed in a confusing way that makes it difficult to decipher what options there are. Everyone in our party (and at the tables around us) was in a bad mood from the terrible service. The food perked us up a bit since it was delicious and fresh but my experience was still overshadowed by the terrible service. $3 split plate charge $14 veggie burger (The regular burger is cheaper! ______________________ Suggestions: This restaurants FOH problems would be solved by making it counter service. Allowing customers to order and pay at the counter and seat themselves while they wait for their food would literally solve 95% of their problems.
