We got 2 donuts (sugar and glazed, biggest donuts I've seen in my life btw), a brownie, a chocolate cupcake, and a ham & cheese croissant (again, biggest croissant i've seen in my life). The sweets were perfect. The croissant came cold but reheated well in the air fryer. Overall a hidden gem. My only complaint (which is a borderline non-issue) is I wish they used a different packaging for the brownie. The fudge top completely stuck to the wrapper they used. Stopped in to check this place out on my way to work on a Tuesday morning. From the reviews it looked like a really cool old school Bakery and I was right! Not a very large place tucked away in a neighborhood type setting. Plenty of delicious options for you to check out and purchase. Breads, donuts, fruit bars......the list goes on and on! I picked up a dozen donuts to take in to work. The Boston creams and the jelly donuts are HUGE. People weren't kidding about that, they're the size of my hand! Most folks aren't going to be able to eat more than one. I seriously struggled with two........and the flavor of the donuts were wonderful. Like they used to make them back in the day. First time trying this place. I found it on Yelp. I got a loaf of buttermilk rye as it sounded interesting and a cream de nata tart. I am throwing out the loaf of bread that cost about five dollars as when I got home I found that it was undercooked inside. See photos. I have never gotten a undercooked loaf of bread anywhere. I cannot believe that they didn't notice when they sliced it for me!! The tart was nice and flaky but way too sugary. Kids who like custard should like them but I didn't care for it after a few bites because of the amount of sugar. What a disappointment. read more

I was introduced to Chmura's by neighbors who surprised me w a loaf of seeded rye and a humongous pastry known as a bismark. The rye bread reminded me of a bakery in Yonkers NY where I grew up. Very crusty and flavorful. About the best I've ever had. The bismark was filled w a whipped cream and raspberry jam filling. The fruit squares come in a variety of flavors (apricot, raspberry, fig, pineapple, lemon, strawberry rhubarb to name a few). I was here June 4th, 2020 for the first time. This is a solid bakery with lots to choose from. Their donuts are so big. The bakery is well lit and spacious. The staff were all nice, warm and welcoming. Very helpful in explaining what some of the items were that I didn't know. Picked up some bread to take home and a handful of donuts. The donuts were very fresh and filled plentiful. Very nice to see. The powdered jelly filled was the winner for me. Looking forward to get back here soon. read more

Hidden treasure in Springfield! Stopped by this morning around 7am- there were at least four folks in line behind me as I checked out! Clearly a local favorite... Bought a seeded rye loaf, two jelly donuts, macaroons, and apple danishes for the ultimate food critics: mom and grandma. The rye bread was SO fresh and soft- right out of the oven. The sweets were clearly baked with love. The macaroon is the perfect blend of cake and coconut. The danish is very dense.... a generous portion of apple filling and luckily not too sweet. The jelly donuts were a homerun- fluffy dough with a dollop of jelly. It is no wonder this place has been serving treats for over 100 years!! After the Palmer location closed we've been coming back to the original in Indian orchard and enjoyed the quality of breads. Marble rye is amazing. The Vienna bread is consistently good, large in size and no air bubbles. Portuguese rolls are excellent. Occasionally we enjoy a donut and they're Great. Easy to go overboard on the pastries so we practice restraint. But you could gain a few pounds easily with the delicious assortment of sweet baked goods. The Staff was extremely accommodating and kind-working with us to get the design we were looking for on the cake and flavored cupcakes. All our guests raved about all the baked goods. Chmura's Bakery reminds me of being a kid. I judge every donut shop by their jelly donuts, and each and every jelly donut is compared to the jelly donuts at Chmura's. These donuts are covered in powdered sugar (the way a jelly donut should be!) and HUGE. The jelly to donut ratio is perfect. Just enough jelly but not too much. In addition to their jelly donuts, I also love the custard cups. They look burnt, but they aren't! These are unique and a bit less sweet than other pastries. They're also perfect for groups of people- small enough for individual servings and easy to transport. Chmura's is always fabulous. One of the few old school bakeries left still in business. Since 1902, and still in business is quite an accomplishment in itself. I've eaten breads and baked goods from there before, but have never been inside myself. The interior was nothing special with a long display case, small coffee area, dairy cooler, and open air bread area. The display case had brownies, cupcakes, pastries, donuts, and plenty of hard to find baked goods. I grabbed a small birthday cake, dill rye bread, and some chourico. It seemed to be a blend of Portuguese and Polish items, with some meat and dairy items being locally sourced. I've always preferred Gus & Paul's, but with them out of business, Chmura's might be my go to place for baked goods. Ok... After trying the birthday cake I would say it was just ok. The frosting was good but the cake was stale in some spots. We ordered a dill rye bread and upon trying it noticed it wasn't a dill rye, but a sourdough. The sourdough was extremely dry. I've always been told to try their donuts, especially the apple fritters, but I was disappointed with both. The variety of donuts were average, the boston cream donut was undercooked and I was grossed out by the doughy taste so I didn't finish it. However, the inside custard pudding was delicious. My friend noted the chocolate glazed had a wierd taste to it, kinda like dish soap. The apple fritters I was told by several people was the one to get for sure and I felt it was just a sub-par. Also splurged on a ham and cheese croissant and it was MEH. I expect flaky buttery goodness and for the ham and cheese to just be full and melty but I honestly couldn't even tell it was in there. The employees I have to say were SUPER helpful and friendly, so that was cool and really the only reason I'll give them another shot to try some fresh bread, but not for their donuts. read more

Oh, how I wish we lived closer to Chmura's. Whenever my wife and I drive to Springfield to visit family, we always drive through Indian Orchard and make a stop at Chmura's. Everything is consistently fresh and delicious. They are always stocked with cookies, cakes, pastries, donuts, you name it. The staff is extremely helpful, nice and willing to help you out. We once were in a bind for a last minute Birthday cake, and they helped us out with a fantastic cake, and custom writing as soon as we walked in the door. Do NOT pass this place up. read more

You're lost, wandering around, looking for a bakery and unable to find anything worthwhile when BAM! out of the blue, the magical Chmura's crosses your path. If you're looking for a bakery that actually makes its own bread (among many other things), go to Chmura's in Indian Orchard and never look back. A small sample of some of the things they offer: -fresh hot coffee (regular and decaf) -a wide variety of fresh donuts-- the apple fritter is to die for! -danishes and pastries (we tried the strawberry + rhubarb square and it was tasty, but very sweet!) -filled and plain croissants-- ham and cheese is a big 10-4, skip the chorizo croissant -desserts and cakes (PS they have candles for birthday cakes) -Polish staples like kielbasa and pierogies (in the refrigerators as you come in the door) -Farm-fresh, local milk and eggs -shelf-stable items: some Portuguese, some Polish -and of course, lots and lots of fresh baked bread and rolls The star of Chmura's is really their fresh baked bread. I've tried a handful of different types, my favorite being the sourdough rye. The slightly chewy, ever so slightly crisp crust is the stuff of legends. And the display of loaves behind the counter is enough to get anyone salivating! Loaf slicing (via machine) is available for your purchase-- just ask an employee. The positive/negative to their fresh bread is that it doesn't last very long. Since it's fresh (and I assume, without any stabilizers/preservatives), it easily molds within a few days if left on the counter in this humid weather. Keeping it in the fridge (or eating it quickly) will reduce this problem. Employees are helpful answering questions, as well as quick. There's always a short line at this bakery, but it moves fast. Take the time to look around, but when you get in line-- be ready to order! I especially like an older woman who works there, she's always so sweet. There's a couple of small tables to sip your coffee and enjoy your breakfast, if you so desire. Minus one star for crazy-sweet pastries (sometimes, even the donuts are ridiculously give-you-a-cavity sweet), and hit-or-miss croissant fillings. Additionally, the last time we visited and ordered two large coffees, there was hardly enough coffee in the pot to cover the bottom of one cup. I sensed a bit of annoyance as the young woman went over to verify that they were, indeed, out of regular coffee, and after I asked her to please make more. Decaf simply wasn't going to cut it. Otherwise, Chmura's is a weekly trip for me and my darling pitbull Mia, who loves mowing down a couple of slices of fresh bread with me in the parking lot. Bought the rum cake-couldn't taste the rum at all. They said that we couldn't taste the rum as it was cooked off. Funny never had that problem before. They were not apologetic but angry when we said this. So we went to Russo's bakery in enfield and had an amazing piece of rum cake. read more

Donuts were delicious and huge. I love ones that taste like home, not like a chemical plant (Dunks), and Chmura's are the real deal. Sampled jelly, Boston cream and chocolate dipped. We won't get our donuts anywhere else now. Luscious. Also tried cherry danish & blueberry & cranberry muffins. Again tasty perfection all around. The food shows the love the bakery puts into it.
