Guess I should've turned around but I was hungry. The server cashier mujere appeared to have a cold and was eating at the register ordering area. Maybe it was me but there were two quesadilla choices on the menu. I wanted the one that had a soft shell stuffed with cheese. I got 3 tacos which she pointed out was on another page with the same name. No apologies, I ate some and took the rest home. Price was right and the size was ample and at least I didn't have to pay for the so-so tortillas. Ambience was confusing because the bar wasn't open but the music was blaring and besides the cook, we were the only ones there. No wine, just beer when I asked. The server continued to eat up front and I put my own leftovers in a bag. A lot could be improved but I won't be around to check it out. read more

Small little hole in the wall restaurant. It seems family owned and it has plenty of seating available. It's probably big enough to cater a holiday event. The restaurant has two sections and a bar. The staff were kind and very welcoming. The portions were a lot bigger than I expected for the price. It's definitely worth visiting. I was able to eat the gringa for three meals because it was so much food. The staff did warn me that the portions were going to be large, but since I'm used to paying more and getting less in NYC, I didn't change my order. She was so right that the portions were really big, but I did enjoy being able to try multiple dishes. The only thing is their pictures don't really exactly match the food that is presented to you. My husband eats here all the time with his co-workers and i love hole in the wall type places :) when we sit down we are greeted by a friendly waitress that delivers us hot chips and fresh salsa. We we're already starving so we scarfed them down quickly. Nothing like good chips and salsa :) Next we ordered our lunches. I decided to go with shrimp and steak fajitas which came out in the brimming hot sauce. Yummmmm. My husband got this combo that I forgot what it was called but it's prob the best thing I've eaten in awhile. It's a combo of different meats and topped with this delicious white cheese. To be honest, we only found this place because we were on our way to Total Wine and were starving. We stopped here for a late lunch on a weekday. The service was fast, and they brought out free chips and salsa soon after we sat down. The red salsa doesn't mess around- it was pretty spicy. I ordered a horchata and it was huge! Definitely needed it after eating that salsa and definitely worth the $3. We also ordered tacos (beef and chorizo), beef sope, and crunchy carnitas tacos. Everything had so much sour cream on top but otherwise decent no frills Mexican fare. Also decent prices! I wouldn't go out of my way to come back but maybe I'll stop by the next time I'm in the area... Total Wine is only 5 minutes away from there afterall. read more

If you're looking for authentic mexican great tasting food this is your place. Best in Wilmington and I've tried most. If you want your average chain Tex-Mex for some ambiance but food is second then go there instead (Chi Chi's etc). Aureas has great food, fair prices but definitely a no frills place. We usually stop in the grocery a few doors down for fresh tortillas and decided to stop in for lunch. There was one server working and she was busting her tail waiting on all the tables and doing take out. Ordered: horchata - big and delicious Chicken enchilada with verde- meat was tender and the sauce excellent Ordered a steak sope and was surprised at the large size- more like a huarache size. The sope was fresh and has the right amount of chew. The steak was browned and flavorful. Fantastic dish over all and we will prefer it again. Service was as fast as expected with one server but she was friendly, kind and seemed very capable. All the patrons seemed to realize they were short staffed and were patient for their turn of service. We'll return again for sure. read more

My fave place to get mexican food. The quesadillas are soooo good. I usually get combinado or steak. The tacos are just as good. They usually serve each meal with a red and green salsa. The green is my favorite. I recently tried the alambre and that was a meat delight. If you have leftovers, it's good with eggs for breakfast. Not very well marked from the outside, Aureas doesn't spend much on the frills and extras to decorate the place. Several plastic covered tables and two televisions tuned in to Spanish channels. Service was VERY slow but we stuck it out because the reviews said the food was good. Ten minutes to place our orders. Another twenty minutes to get three glasses of water for us. And then another twenty minutes for the food. Yes, really. One of the guys had a chicken burrito which was a good size and served with a pile of fries. I stole one - very good fries. I had three tacos - one pollo, one asada and one lengua. And honestly, I could not tell the difference between the meat on those two. And other than two lime wedges and a couple rounds of radish (what's the deal with radishes, anyway?), not much food. No chips or salsa for the table. The gal told us that they were out of chips. Maybe my experience was a one-off and they're usually better? If I'm back in Claymont, I would give them another shot and have something else to eat. read more

Nice mom and pop spot for great steak and chicken tacos, Calderone (spicy shrimp) soup, and complimentary chips and salsa. Prices are nice. They serve beer now and maybe hard liquor. Love practicing my Spanish with the servers worth checking out once to see if you like. Support local! read more

When we visited - a Sunday about 3:30pm - there was only one person in the front of the house. So she was busy and the service was not good: took quite a while to acknowledge us, then take order, deliver order, refill drinks, etc and in fact I never got the tortillas for my fajitas (which are actually quite an improbably part). So I'm not basing the review on that because it might be a 'one off' (although when we paid we mentioned something to her about it, joking about 'somebody not coming in?' And what she said sort of made it sound like it's always like that on Sunday afternoon. So I dunno. But I am giving 2.5 stars for the food, which was nothing special. Some of it came out cold (maybe owing to the same issue of just one person being there), but the food was just meh overall. The best part of the meal was my dining partner's French fries. Good Golly Miss Molly! Talk about the real deal. This is it. I have been to the deepest parts of Mexico and had their food. This place is the real deal. No frills just all about the food. A little hard to find in the strip mall but take the time to get there. Don't expect big screen TV's or a fancy bar (no alcohol served) but expect simple authentic Mexican food. Buen Provecho! Well, this place could easily be a 4 and very possibly a 5 but it's really a 3. Lots of reasons why. It's a very low budget type place. The overall restaurant feels more like someone's party house, where the guy didn't care about details, than a restaurant to make money out of. Now, this is similar to lots of Mexican food places but more obvious here. 1 server total. And she was probably the owner or a wife but not a real server. VERY nice but not a very good server. You basically just wait and hope the bring you whatever you need. Chips are cooked ahead of time and not kept in a warmer so they are not fresh - so basically you are eating bagged tortilla chips. This sounds picky but this detail is huge because of how amazing their salsa is!! The salsa is amazing! First class, without a doubt. Great spice - just all around YUM! Got the Flautas for dinner and they were awesome! Totally different as they put beans in top of them, with cotija and sour cream. Totally different than I have had but fantastic! I got a side of rice and it lacked a little flavor but was okay. The bar is kind of embarrassing - looks like they went to Costco and stocked it. Solid Mexican food in a really authentic interesting restaurant behind a shopping center in Claymont.

Simple Mexican restaurant hits all the right notes with ample portions fit for hard working folk all served with a smile.

First let me say your adventure begins trying to find the place. The street address listed as 3624 Bayard Dr. on Google Maps (as of this writing) is a "planned" road (you will not find it) When I hit "get directions" from the Yelp listing for this place, it put me at the corner of Governor Printz Blvd and Philadelphia Pike (this is on my phone BTW). Neither location is accurate. This place is in a small plaza perpendicularly located just of Darley Rd near the intersection of Darley Rd and Philadelphia Pike. The back of the plaza is directly behind the Sunoco on Phila. Pike at that intersection. It took me quite some effort to find this place but I was determined. I will post a picture of the plaza and the plaza sign from Darley Rd. OK now for the lowdown. The decor is typical of a small pizza place or sandwich place but everything looked as it should and clean. The wait staff and I imagine the rest of the employees speak Spanish as their main language. The waitress had a little trouble with a couple of things I said to her. Mainly if it was OK for me to bring in my own beer since they do not serve any type of alcoholic beverages. She said OK after she checked with the manager. The menu listed quite a variety of typical Mexican fare. I only ordered the Roast Pork burrito with guacamole salad. It was very tasty and a nice generous portion at least in my opinion. Now as for whether this food/menu seemed "authentic" - I have never been to Mexico so I really could not say. I wonder how many folks that use this term have actually eaten Mexican food in Mexico and I'm not referring to Mexican resort food. I did notice however all the patrons except for myself seem to appear to be of Mexican influence. I always thought this was a good thing when trying out a Mexican restaurant.
