Heard a lot about this restaurant so had to check it out for happy hour! To start, the bartender was the only one working on a Thursday happy hour so the service was a bit slow. He was working so hard to get to all the tables but it ended up taking a while to get a drink. The happy hour deals were awesome - $3 beers, $6 margaritas, and a fee food items like nachos and tacos. The inside is huge and the part has a ton of high top tables. Would not recommend their "standard margarita", it tastes like house made mix. There are two guac options at different prices: one is made fresh at your table and the other was made in the morning. Just get the cheaper one that was made this morning - the fresh was slightly underwhelming. We decided on a trip here while in the Price's Corner area with the family. Someone else here said the free chips and salsa were really good. I must agree. They were pretty darn good and tasty. That same reviewer also made it out like the chips and salsa were the best thing they had. On that note, I also agree. Everything was fine. It was ok. There was nothing wrong with it. But I got the overall sense that everything needed something else. The guacamole needed something. It didn't have much flavor past the avocado. It didn't really have much else at all. My wife's Hawaiian Fajitas earned an A for presentation. I'd say a B- on flavor. Of our two main dishes it was probably the better one. My steak tostadas were again, ok. I sensed the steak wasn't totally its freshest. I found myself eating more of my wife's fajitas instead. Nothing terribly wrong with the place. It's a nice place and the service was excellent. I politely called the restaurant and explained and they refuse to do anything about it. They were rude disrespectful inconsiderate. And when I explained that I would either like a refund for someone else to come out they said it's not their problem and hung up on me. I will never order from here again!!! Sometimes you can hit this place right and get a great meal. Most of the time, it is fairly average. While the portions are large, the taste/quality is not distinguishable from the five or six other Mexican restaurants in the area. They are all rather boring in my honest opinion. This is a great place to go and have nachos and a few drinks. There is nothing objectionable about the food. It is certainly never bad. I have been 15+ times, so despite the rating of a "3," I do keep coming back. I like the people that work there. I like the chips and salsa and the price is never too high. One of my largest gripes about El Maya and almost all Mexican restaurants is the rice and beans. Rice and Beans is probably the most popular food in the world. In the USA we don't eat much of it because we have so much abundance. Why then is the quality served at so many Mexican restaurants so poor? It's like instant rice with frozen veggies and canned refried beans? Does no one have grandma's recipe? Seriously, it is one of my biggest turn offs to have such low grade rice and beans accompanying my dishes. If you are not even going to try, save yourself the time and just throw some french fries on the plate? El Maya's rice and beans are forgettable as well. Why bother? I'd recommend the La Deliciosa plate. The Carne Asada and the Nachos. I can't think of a Mexican place in the area that I like better. read more

Absolutely Fantastic. This is our new favorite restaurant for Mexican Food. First time here yet will not be the last. The Ambiance is authentic and warm. We went for lunch, 11-230 lunch specials are phenomenal, seriously. We all took home leftovers. We were promptly greeted and brought chips/salsa. Chips were fresh and oh so good. Salsa was too spicy for me, I'm a wimp. Taco's are delicious, really delicious! The lettuce was so fresh, I wanted more. I had a burrito, a taco, and rice plate. The rice is so good. The beef was so tender. I cannot eat spicy, these were perfect. 3 styles of hot sauce on the table for anyone who wants to make it hotter. At 3pm the bar was hopping, the margaritas looked amazing. I can honestly say I will not be driving to Hockessin for my Mexican fill anymore. The waiter was very friendly, they all were. They all helped one another out. Just finished eating here. My mom and I shared the Enchiladas Maya and Chile Vallarta. Both were very good and came with hearty proportions. It was also nice to get chips and salsa right when sitting down. The interior decorations were fun and they had regular seating as well as a room for parties. We used to come here very often. Tonight we were seated at a table that was dirty and had dead flies. We moved to the next table and same finally the third time we decided to leave. If it was just dirty is fine but the dead flies I couldn't do. The hostess was frustrated we kept asking to move and tried to place our menus down and force us to sit at the final dirty table. We decided to leave. I called and spoke with a manager to make sure they were cleaned because of the possible confusion and language barrier. Just spent almost $50 and they forgot two items out of the grande meal that we wanted check your order before you leave out. But besides that the food was good. But there was two missing chile rellenos and we were too exhausted after work to leave back out of the house to come complain and ask them to fix it. Once again, I drove 25 miles to take my sister to this EXCELLENT Restaurant. Today we had Lunch Fajitas (steak) YUMMMMM! I could cut the steak with my fork, seasoned perfectly, Peppers and Onions were cooked perfectly! My lunch portion was so big that I took almost half home to enjoy for Dinner. First time ordering takeout. Ordered 3 chicken tacos, and 2 chicken burritos. Chicken in both dishes was super dry, most likely sitting in a warming tray in liquid. The tacos were subpar at best, just a lump of shredded chicken covered covered in shredded cheddar cheese. Burrito was the same thing, lumps of very dry, shredded chicken, tortilla was covered in terrible sauce and they were very soggy. The chips seem to be pre made and they just take them out of the bag and flash fry them so they seem authentic but they're really just dripping in oil. Might give the restaurant one more try but so far, terrible food. read more

I recently left behind my perception ray-ban sunglasses - i say this only to Emphasize the cost of these particular glasses.. I didn't realize this until much later in the day and was out of the area for two weeks after that day. When I finally found the time to return - to my surprise they had held them safely waiting fir their owner to return. This level of Integrity is Rarely found.
