I'll be honest, I am surprised by not only the good reviews but the fact that absolutely nothing has changed since this place opened. The food is very good and consistently so... when you can get it. The restaurant is always PAINFULLY short staffed so while the staff is very friendly, they're simply never around. We have had to cancel food orders more than once because sitting there waiting for an hour to order (literally), then waiting another hour and multiple reminders for the bill before you can close out is just untenable. We live right up the street and since the food is so good, we try over and over and over again and it always the same experience: endlessly disappointing. Sitting there for 15 minutes with empty glasses and not a bartender in sight, or waiting 20 minutes in an empty restaurant only to finally order and have the server tell you they just sold out of what you wanted is not the way to run a restaurant. I'm only giving it two stars because the food is so good, but I'm afraid we've been disappointed one too many times. Until they can either hire staff or train their current staff on how to deal with their sections, we're out. read more

I had visited Aurora Borealis five times in June, Sept, and Nov 2019. I revisited on 1/18/25 to meet up with fellow Yelp Elite, Carol C for breakfast. This is a dining favorite for her and her family and a go to for business catered orders. I'm glad that this local indie had survived the pandemic and has also become a destination for live music and entertainment. Genuine upbeat and friendly service. Decent menu items to select from. Food came out in reasonable time and we were checked on by both wait staff covering the dining area. Even the general manager came by for a brief chat. There is a certain amount of nostalgia about this place. Being a long time Shoreline resident, I remember the days of the Drift on inn. We even had high school reunions centered here. Then came Debby's drift on Inn. More focused on gambling, rather than the previous slant on dancing. Now, Aurora Borealis is a music and dancing venue. Could be difficulties with country and line dancing. My peers are more rock and roll than country. The adherents to specific line dancing steps an be something a mildy intoxicated person may not find fun. All said, they do try hard to please customers. Food here is great. They have a wide variety of appetizers. We chose the seared ahi tuna and the spinach artichoke dip. The tuna was of good quality. Combining the tuna and artichoke dip, with tortilla chips gave this an interesting appetizer. We went with beef birria tacos. These had tender meat, with a rich dipping sauce. Great service. My server was clearly inexperienced, but made a good effort to make sure we enjoyed our meals. I am pulling for them to be successful here. They do offer a variety of specials, often at reduced prices. The varied menu offers snacks, sandwiches and good variety of sandwiches and soup. I've eaten at the restaurant and have gotten orders to go, everyone is always pleasant. We have received wonderful service from the upbeat staff including Tory, Eva, Ryan (event bartender), Andy and Tara. On my most recent visit, I worked with Andy and Tara to see if they could make a dozen breakfast sandwiches for a work meeting. Karen and I slid in just under their 6 pm happy hour cutoff on a Monday and were glad we did, because the Wednesday 50%-off specials were already tempting us to come back.​ The hamburger was delicious and cooked just right, with the garlic mushrooms on it which were rich, savory, and full of flavor. The pasta salad side rounded things out nicely and made the plate feel like a complete meal.​ One small note for first-timers: the entrance is on Highway 99, which can be a little confusing because there's also an "Entrance" sign on the opposite side of the building. I'm not sure why people rated this place with four stars. The food was ok but the slowness and lack of servers for our large planned for group left us unhappy. My son had made a reservation for 25 people to use the downstairs after a memorial service. We arrived, hardly any menus available, no other customers and one lone server who I felt badly for. At that point, 5:00 pm there wasn't even a bartender on duty. Let me add that when we came in there were only a couple of customers upstairs and none down stairs but us so there should have been another server available to at least assist. It took probably 45 minutes before someone finally took our food orders and then another 30 minutes to get food, including appetizers which should have come out first. With no other customers, the kitchen should have been faster. That said, they do have an extensive menu, something for everyone and what we had was good, I had a build your own bowl with rice, veggies, ahi and a nice Asian sesame sauce. Everyone else had the French dip with fries which they said was good. That said, it's not inexpensive. We had four sandwiches, a kids meal and mine, one glass of wine and the others had tea and dinner was well over $200. Later as we were leaving they had a band so folks were coming in to watch that. Quite frankly, if I were that place I wouldn't advertise for groups. They obviously are not equipped to do so. read more

Great place for music, good ambiance and not so great food. A recent visit had us hopeful, alas the kitchen proved disappointing. My steak salad was brought to the table with a barely warm steak and a sliced avocado that was so unripe I couldn't cut it with a fork. The waitstaff tried to make it right with a new order for the fish and chips. I was offered the option to sub tots for the chips and chose it. After a long delay, where my party finished their entrees, my order was delivered. Not with the tots I requested but with fries. Alas, another disappointment as the coating on the fish was soft and rubbery and the fries, though tasty, were no substitute for the expected tots. At this point I was the only one left unfed and chose to head off to the show with my party rather than make me eat alone. I'll add that the burgers that were delivered to the diners around me looked good and made me wish I'd chosen differently. read more

We dropped in Friday evening and were greeted by a very sweet gal. She was fantastic. We had just come from Goldies where we had waited for 45 minutes and where our existence was not even acknowledged! Now we had a waitress who cared and seemed to enjoy her job!! Her name is Cherry, and she turned our lousy evening into a great one! We enjoyed the Pesto pasta, fish and chips and the meatloaf...but Cherry made it all work!! The vegan bowl I had was absolutely scrumptious! The vegetables and salad were wonderfully fresh and tasty. The vegetable bowl was outstanding and beautifully presented. I tried this place on a whim and to my utter surprise...the food was better than many "vegan" or "vegetarian" restaurants. I'll definitely return. Justice working the bar was so warm and welcoming, and his dad jokes were on point. We had the truffle fries which were off the charts good, the jalapeño poppers which were good, but not the best I've ever had, the sampler platter which had the juiciest chicken strips I've ever gotten at any bar, and the Cajun shrimp. Food is great. The vegetables and salads were super fresh. I was surprised because the prices were a great value. The menu reminded me of classic dinner food but special. Example: chips and Pico de Gallo but the Pico de Gallo is made with apples and is amazing and different. Yelp suggested it for brunch which I would consider it a brunch spot. But it has all day breakfast and cocktails so I guess it is considered brunch. I've seen this place while driving by and not thought it was just a club/bar. But Yelp was right, this is a great place for food. The restaurant area is open but feels like it's meant for events. The service was slow but our waitress was very nice (like the first day) and our order was correct. I'll be going back and you should give it a try as well. read more
