I was very specific about how I wanted my 10 KW system designed--both in scope and budget. I also wanted to work with an installer who was deeply familiar with the incentives available in my area. That criterion alone narrowed down the list significantly. When I began reaching out to various companies, I quickly discovered a frustrating trend: many solar installers were locked into a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach and were unable (or unwilling) to work outside of a limited system design. My project required string inverter build, which further complicated the search. Another challenge I encountered was a general lack of knowledge among some companies' sales teams. Many couldn't confidently discuss critical elements like system components or even the federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which is currently in the phase-out period--making it even more urgent for homeowners to act now. After speaking with many companies, I had the good fortune of connecting with Ms. Elena Zenke, owner of Bee Happy Solar. From our first conversation, I knew she was different. She was knowledgeable, flexible, and respectful of both my timeline and payment preferences. She welcomed my involvement in the design process, listened to my needs, and collaborated with me to ensure the system met my vision. Bee Happy Solar is the only company I know of that offers both string inverter and micro inverter solutions, which speaks to their technical versatility. A few months after my installation, I upgraded my home modem and lost connection to my inverter's monitoring system. Elena personally came back to my home and assisted with a support call to the micro inverter manufacturer until the issue was resolved. That level of post-installation service truly solidified my trust in her and her company. The installation crew was professional, efficient, and meticulous in their work. One of the installers even helped me resolve a minor issue with my skylight--completely unrelated to the solar project--and did so at no charge. That act of generosity did not go unnoticed. Post-installation, Ms. Zenke continued to go above and beyond. She assisted in completing additional paperwork for incentives such as the Baltimore County Property Tax Credit and the Maryland Solar Access Grant. In summary, Bee Happy Solar exceeded my expectations at every stage--design, installation, follow-up, and incentive processing. I would enthusiastically recommend them to anyone considering solar, especially if you're looking for a customized approach backed by exceptional service and expertise.

During the site visit, I was assured that the free Nest thermostat offered was compatible with the heat pump system in my home. This turned out NOT to be true!! The thermostat was wired in a way that sent me unit into emergency mode and I received an electric bill in excess of ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS the following month. I got their contact information from PEPCO, who told me to reach out to them to resolve the issue, and that's when my problems got worse! The phone went to answering machine and, after leaving a message, I started to receive text messages from a rep. WHOEVER this person was tried to pressure me into paying for a service call to remedy an issue they caused!! I tried to give whoever I was speaking to the benefit of the doubt and asked for an owner or someone from management. This only resulted in blunt responses asking "if I wanted to pay or end the conversation" This is a HORRIBLE way to do business and I suggest for anyone else "Who Has Nothing To Lose and Take the FREE Products" to THINK TWICE!!

BGE was very careful in scheduling this assessment so that we were comfortable with the rep from EZ Green Home. He came out as a part of the Empower MD program that we all fund through small surcharges in our electric bills. They upgraded small things in our home that affect our power consumption at no charge (light bulbs, smart-ish power strips, etc). This was all done at no additional charge to us, again because this program is funded by surcharges we all pay in our electric bills. The representative who came out was extremely friendly, very professional and knowledgeable, and also educated us on other programs available for saving money on larger home upgrades. Much of our home was already energy saving, but he gave us 10 LED light bulbs and an energy saving power strip at no charge to us. This was such a beneficial and appreciated visit.

I spoke with a total of 6 companies. Jesse Carl, the sales rep for Key Solar, was by far the most responsive, accommodating, and offered the best price and panel/ inverter options. Post sales Jesse was quick to respond whenever I had a question. Approvals were a breeze since Jesse took care of it, and the install team were all nice and respectful employees of Key Solar. I also love that the install team takes great pride in their work and it shows in the details, for instance installing power conduits unobtrusively so it blends in with the existing house structure. Installation did take a while to complete since I had several panels to install and added critterguards, but Billy the Operations Manager was responsive and did a good job getting everything scheduled. Only complaint I have is not loading up the south side of the house with more panels; looking at the data the south side produces twice as much energy as the other locations on my house. If you are considering solar, go with Key Solar and be sure to load up the south side of your house with as much panels as possible!

We got panels installed in fall 2025 and got the system turned on in January. Greg answered a million questions and has continued to be our liaison and advocate. They under promised our production and have over delivered on our pepco savings. However, our roof was in rough shape but instead of letting us know that we shouldn't get panels before fixing the roof they said it would be fine and when we replace the roof in ten years they will remove and reinstall the panels for free under warranty. So after some big rains we realized we had roof leaks. Now the leaks were not coming in directly where they installed the panels, just close by. Our roof never had issues before, but with a bunch of guys climbing and hammering into it, there was bound to be issues. Without going into excruciating detail, the sales team has been great but the customer service from the company is lacking unless you get harsh with them. Having to wait 4 months to get panels reinstalled after getting a new roof, the techs not labeling the electrical so reinstall did not go smoothly, and two electrician visits because the first one didn't connect all the panels did not leave us impressed with the service. Finally all is resolved, but it's been a roller coaster. After everything my main takeaway is to make sure your roof is in really good shape before installing solar.
