Edge Energy has redeemed themselves in my estimation! Caught in the throes of the bankruptcy of their major supplier, Sol Systems, they have risen back to the top of my preference list. It did take some time for them to respond to my numerous requests, but the result was that they showed that my initial trust in them was warranted. I will continue to do business with them, AND recommend them to anyone seeking a solar energy vendor, as well as anyone seeking to improve their home's energy efficiency. read more

Updating my review for two reasons: 1) it's clear that leadership at the company is focused on customer satisfaction and improvement now since they recently reached out to discuss my experience and they worked to make it right. So my guess would be that if someone did a job now, they would make sure the customer was happy (versus ghosting them like in my case in the past); and 2) I have no ongoing complaints about the work. Our house does appear to be better insulated (I.e., energy costs are lower in the summer and winter) and we haven't had any additional leaks or other issues. read more

Edit: I wrote a highly critical one star review of this company and they reached out to me to address the issues I raised. I thought the company went out of business because the email of the person I was dealing with had bounced, but it turns out that he had left the company without notifying me. The system was very expensive and I should have obtained more quotes. But I went ahead and signed up, and got it installed. They had a communication problem of not informing me properly about the installation process, how long it would take, when it goes online, when the SREC credits kick in, information about the warranty on the panels, or when I can expect my first SREC payment. In addition, the company that they partner with to obtain the SRECs, SolSystems, was not at all responsive to my issues in getting registered. I am changing my review to 3 stars because they are in the process of getting me all the necessary information, resolving the issue with SolSytems, and addressing the remaining issues, and I now have a person to speak with directly about any futures issues. Otherwise, the system has been working as promised, and generating power at roughly their estimates. That is the biggest issue for me, since I am relying upon the SRECs to pay off the loan. They recommended a loan company which was very easy to deal with. Credit Human, and the loan was processed quickly and easily, and they have been in regular communication. read more

The communication, office staff, and project managers are great, but the actual laborers they use could not have cared less for doing a good job in my house. Edge sent people back to fix what they broke, and to clean up the mess they left in my attic joist bays, but I'm not entirely sure they did a complete job, and I don't have the energy to investigate further. 5/5 for the management honesty and thoroughness. 1/5 for whomever they hired to do the actual work. We had a good experience with EDGE on our solar array installation. They provided multiple options from which to select, talked through our extensive questions about each, and moved quickly once we agreed on a plan. The team from Edge Energy did a fantastic job for us on an energy audit! Henry performed the 4 hour audit of our home. He was professional and thorough, showed me things that would likely be recommended in the report, and quickly followed up when I had a question later. From there, Gary went over the report and recommendations, answering the many questions I had about why and how. Over a couple of calls, he spent at least an hour explaining the process and what the impact would be of each suggestion. Weatherizing and air sealing are new to me so I appreciate the details. The crew that was on site for 2 days were all professional, friendly, and left zero mess, even between days. They actually repainted the attic door when it was slightly scuffed from the insulating process. Our home was respected and covered from debris and foot traffic. Elder explained what they were doing to my husband, who was home during the work, and my husband felt he really knew his stuff. Henry also came by both days to check on things. The rebate process was handled by Gary, and we didn't have to lift a finger about that. We definitely recommend Edge! One of our main concerns was temperature comfort and consistency in our 3 story, 25 year old home. The work was completed about a month ago, and I'm pleased to say there is a noticeable difference! We no longer feel a marked temp change as we walk to the top floor of the house. And I noticed on an exceptionally warm day that the inside of the house didn't warm quickly even with the air off (just testing!). We had a blower test goal and beat it! I had a question about one of the components recently (about a month after the work), and Gary just as promptly and professionally addressed it. read more

We have been generally very happy with our Edge install. We got estimates from multiple solar vendors and ultimately went with Edge largely because of the warranty. The installation process was easy. The main complaint i have is that the installers do not patch the holes made during installation. We had about 7 holes in our drywall (averaging 8 inches on a side) where they had to fish wiring. There were also a couple of places where they had to punch through an external wall. Oddly they sealed all those external holes, but not the drywall holes. So we had to pay a couple hundred dollars to a contractor we found to patch the drywall. The installers offered to patch the holes and we said yes, but then they did nothing. I realize in retrospect that they may have been hinting that it was an additional service we would pay directly to them. By default the installation should fix any associated damage. Post-install, things have been good. There were a couple of minor administrative and technical glitches that were promptly fixed. Overall we are happy with Edge. read more

The 10 degree temperature differential in the upstairs of the house was whittled away to nothing, leaving every room comfortable and safe. The audit seemed well done, although one of the guys was a little annoying, repeating over and over "I'm so nice to give you all this information for free", along with a bunch of platitudes. We cannot say enough good things about Tony and Edge. The whole team was fantastic and respectful to our family inside our home. They quickly installed our system (22 panels) by the end of December so that we could get our tax credit! Everything went incredibly smoothly, and they were helpful along the way with educating our family about the system. We breezed through the inspections from the power company and the county with no issues, and our system has been up and running since then. Many of our neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. As a matter of fact, some of them didn't notice for a few days because they installed it so quickly and it blends in with our roof nicely, and it is on the front of our house. When we are ready to install another system, Edge will be the ones to do it! read more

Cannot provide a detailed itemized invoice to explain the balance due. We discussed solar panels and had them picked out and ready to go, then at the last minute, they changed the panels because they were "not available". We agreed on the new panels and then they tried to force a finance offer that benefits them but did not match what they offered prior. I refused that offer and when I stated I was going to just cancel everything, They offered a financial loan through SunPower that does match their offer. They then delayed the work by 3 months and refused to do the MD rebate applications they stated would be done by them. I had to do it myself. This required information to be provided by Edge Energy such as a detailed Itemized invoice for the work. 4 months after the work was completed, I still have not received a detailed itemized invoice yet have repeatedly asked in person, on the phone and in email numerous time. This is not legal. Avoid their head ache. They are clearly trying to hide fraudulent charges. read more

I purchased a solar panel system from Edge Energy in 2019. After I made my final payment to Edge, I was supposed to receive $21,070 promptly from Edge's Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SREC) brokerage partner Sol Systems. Instead paying me the amount due, Sol complained about sub-performance of my system and used this as a pretext to not pay me any of the $21,070 SREC amount due to me. After many months of back and forth emails and non-payment, I asked Sol Systems whether I needed to hire a lawyer. Still no payment. In Nov. 2019, I hired an attorney who wrote a demand letter threatening legal action. Full payment was received in a few days. read more

I used EDGE Energy to install solar panels and, after a couple of consultations with Tony Colella (who is very good at explaining the technology, installation process, all options) and i ended up with a 24 panel system designed to meet 84% of the annual electricity usage. I purchased high end panels, because my home was not aligned for most direct sun, and these panels generate more electricity when the sunlight is less direct. The contract was reasonable, with various payment options and a discount for cash, and the guarantees of product, performance, and workmanship were the best of any of the companies I contacted. The installation started very close to the initially proposed date and the process was incredibly smooth. The workmen were very competent, courteous, and careful. They left no mess, did no perceptible damage to the exterior of the house, the interior, or to the garden plantings. Installation was completed when promised. I was warned by Edge about the delays for getting Dominion Power to complete its (very minor) work to finalize the hookup. County inspection was arranged by Edge and was conducted as scheduled. The only shortcoming with my experience with Edge was with the handoff at the end of the process. I was not given information about how to turn the system on when everything was ready. When I called Tony, in his car, he talked me through the relatively simple process and I was generating! I was called later by a company rep for a full debrief. She explained that Edge was revising this part of the process and sent me the instructions and materials I needed. Overall, it was a great process, and I check my solar generation stats frequently. For Jan through mid-May, I have generated 83.1% of my actual electricity use, with the best sun period having just started. Today I have generated over 300% (that's right) of my daily use. My last electric bills was for the $7.00 minimum! Go solar! And I recommend EDGE Energy to get you there. read more

We hired Edge Energy to do a full house remodel (2,200 sq. ft., two floors, kitchen, living room, dining room, family room, breakfast space, four bedrooms, two full baths and a powder room, laundry room) with the exception of the basement level of the house. This is a little outside their normal scope but we really liked the company owner, Jason Dispenza and he provided a favorable pricing schedule that didn't include some of the exorbitant management fees we have seen with other contractors. However, because of the time and materials contract we entered into, we were not able to control costs as we had anticipated (more on that later). They started with an energy audit which helped to determine some of the aspects of the systems upgrades we would need. We changed the room configuration on both floors, replaced major systems (water heater, HVAC, electrical, etc.) replaced windows with all Pella products and put in new window openings. The job also included installing support beams, replacing the roof, insulation, electrical upgrade and lighting, installing new hardwood flooring in locations that did not have hardwood originally, as well as drywall, paint and a new front entry with a new porch. It was a major job which we lived through for months with the exception of about two weeks when the drywall work was being done. Our living there caused Edge some additional work, but they were considerate of protecting what remained in the house, and making the space as livable as possible. We also liked being able to continually monitor the work and provide input when needed. The result is beautiful and we probably have one of the most energy efficient homes in our area of Maryland. The house was featured in the Montgomery Modern tour in October 2017. The Edge crew was great to work with, very considerate and careful to not disrupt our life more than necessary. Mike Hogan, the project manager was very good to work with, attentive to concerns and very responsive to suggestions. During many weeks we were talking daily. Most subs were very good as well- the HVAC, roofing and drywall guys were great. Our biggest concern was with the plumber (Spartan) who delayed the project by about five weeks and was not customer oriented. Our main issue with Edge Energy was that the final cost of the project was considerably higher than the estimate we had originally received. We agreed to a time and materials contract under the impression that we would have enough information to control costs, but that didn't work out. The progress invoices were submitted irregularly and were not cross-referenced to the specifics of the job, so we didn't know where things stood on how far from the original budget things were until we got a very large final invoice. In the end they were much more expensive than we expected. I would highly recommend Edge Energy for their work and their customer responsiveness. They are technically competent and are very good people to work with but I would recommend using a fixed price contract. read more

I've now had my my solar panels in my home up and running for over a year, and I'm loving the savings! Whenever I had questions or issues that needed to be resolved, the Edge team were always helpful and attentive. Although the install took a little longer than expected I was always kept in the loop and reassured by then that the delays were beyond their control. We hired EDGE Energy for a massive solar installation. Their price was competitive and they were willing to negotiate a bit to get the price to a comfortable place for me. If you, like we, are one of the many homeowners in the Washington DC area with a SLATE roof, you will find they are perhaps the ONLY solar installers with the know-how and willingness to install on slate. They also offer gorgeous all-black solar panels that not only blend with the slate but produce even more power. The friendly, diverse, intelligent, eco-conscious Edge team descended on our home for a couple of days to do the job. They consulted with me every step of the way to make sure they explained the process AND got my input about how pipes and boxes and such were laid out. At one point, the foreman asked if I wanted to MOVE 3 panels they had already installed so they would be positioned in a more aesthetically pleasing way. Yes, HE asked. I said yes and they cheerfully REMOVED the panels and reconfigured them. A couple of weeks after doing the work, our panels started producing clean, green power. Through the DC SUN Lincoln Park co-op, my wife and I worked with EDGE Energy to install SunPower solar panels on our DC rowhouse. There are a lot of moving parts involved in getting solar panels---scheduling estimates, permitting, neighbors' approvals, installation, ongoing panel monitoring, and selling solar credits; EDGE has been responsive and helpful at every step. The install is top quality and includes a solid parapet system, which is essential for most rowhouses. And since EDGE works with my roofing company, at my request they secured an additional letter from the roofer company verifying that the roof warranty is not affected by the solar install. In short, EDGE is very organized in running the process, they've been really responsive when I've had additional questions and requests, they offer a great product with excellent warranties (SunPowers are top-of-the-line panels), and they've made going solar a really positive experience. read more

Like other reviewers, I don't understand the negative reviews. Our project was large: a new roof and 36 solar panels/electrical/monitoring systems. We began the process at the end of July and the roof and solar system were installed by the second week of September. The solar installation went off without a hitch and in a very timely manner. We did have an issue with the roof tearoff/replacement. The roof team completed half the replacement and, that night, we had a monster thunderstorm. We looked up about 9pm and saw water streaming in windows upstairs and down. I immediately emailed Tony and he and his team were at our house within 30 minutes fixing the problem. The next day, he returned and promised to fix all of the damage (not significant, but still present). Not only that, he offered us a choice: a price break on our project or weatherization of our attic. We chose the latter. The roof took 2-3 days, the solar installation and weatherization took 4 days and the repairs happened during and after the the installation. We could not be more pleased. read more

Edge installed 47 solar panels and associated electrical panels. We had no problems with quotes (low bidder of 3 bidders), permits, schedule, installation, approval by electrical company. We are up and running now since the end of August without any issues. No leaks with roof penetrations or panel mountings. Very happy with their performance and would use them again. We were presented with many options for number and design of solar panels, sketches of panel layouts on the roof, etc. so we think they were very professional. read more

Going with edge energy had been hands down one of the best decisions I've ever made. I had wanted a process by which the process from identifying the issue to resolution will not be much of a pain. And Edge energy made that possible by coordinating the process from beginning (energy audit) to end (fixing the energy issues). The home audit was very thorough and explained well to me by Robert, and then Gary seamlessly coordinated the approval process for the PEPCO rebates (all I needed to do was sign), so that Robert and the Devere insulation crew can come in and work on the insulation, air sealing, fan vents, and many more. They worked tirelessly and protected the space. They were unfazed by the coldest day in winter as they complete some of the work outside! In summary, I am amazed by how effortless the process has been for solving my insulation and temperature control issues in the house. Thanks to Edge energy for truly being a one-stop shop! read more

We had a positive experience with Edge Energy. We look forward to our system producing a great deal of power for our home. There were a couple of bumps along the way as the system is very large for a residential system, but Edge was very responsive and all issued were resolved. We participated in a PV solar buying co-op in late 2014 that had selected EDGE and its subcontractors as the installers for the group. EDGE did our site survey, developed a solution, did the permitting, and performed the install. Two years later the microinverter monitoring started working intermittently and they came back and did significant work to implement Enphase's recommended fix at no cost to us. Background: We had done solar thermal in 2010, so we had that experience as a comparison and a forewarning. In that earlier experience, the installer, who no longer exists, screwed up the site survey (our collectors are completely shaded for 7 weeks a year), tried to omit the bypass plumbing in their plan and price, installed a vent device sideways (we read the spec and made them come back and fix it), and made a mess of our house. And then when our pumps started short-cycling on and off a couple of years ago, there was no one to call and we finally had to figure it out ourselves and do the repair. They were, however, fairly punctual to their install timeline, once committed. So when we got to the PV install, we were pretty leery and kind of a PITA to do business with. We spent 6 months peppering EDGE with what ifs and potential changes. We questioned everything in the site model, measuring all the local tree locations and heights ourselves, and got them to update and rerun the numbers multiple times to convince us that we would not have a post-install surprise (we did not, production was greater than predicted, with 2 years of 0 net usage Dominion bills so far). When we finally committed, it was many months past the end of the co-op buying activity, but EDGE honored all of the prices negotiated for that. Scheduling the install was difficult, lots of slips to the plan. Even the day of the install start, it was discovered on site that key parts were missing and needed to be ordered. They ended up installing the racking and then we waited several weeks for everything else to be available. But when all was available, they got the 2 arrays installed in about a day and half as predicted. They did a good job of cleanup afterwards, with very little debris or mess outside or inside. Jump forward to July 2017 when our monitoring problems suddenly started. We could not tell if our arrays were working properly or not and were very unhappy. EDGE opened a trouble ticket with Enphase support. Enphase diagnosed it as noise on the household lines interfering with the monitoring communications. Enphase recommended putting the arrays on a separate load center, with a circuit there for the Envoy monitoring to plug into. EDGE said this really was not a warranty issue: it appeared that something in our home environment had changed and was the source of the issue. However, they offered to implement Enphase's recommended fix at no cost to us, as part of their commitment to their clients. And they did. Three people spent a day and half making the changes. Somewhat to our surprise, that completely fixed the issue. The monitoring has been rock solid and consistent for almost a month since the changes. Obviously our experience with EDGE has been uneven. With our expectations "adjusted", the net results have certainly been positive. The real question is do we trust EDGE and would we use them again. The answer is yes and in fact we're hoping to get them to support our solar thermal as well. I used them to put up solar panels. They were the contractor that the Maryland sun used for our 30-40 member co-op. Although the co-op secured decent costs for the solar purchase I got them to quote me on a new roof and an whole house energy insulation program. Their quotes for both were very then the eventual companies I went with for those two projects. As for the solar install many people in the co-op complained that it took longer to get on the installation schedule than what was promised. I waited for that reason to be one of the last ones to be installed. I inquired in November about dates, paid in December and was told it would be mid March for install. I wasn't installed until mid June!! That was after I complained since they were trying to schedule me for July! I am not sure how hey can justify installing panels six months after the contract was signed. The installation took one day so they must be killing it installing someone everyday or every 2 days....good problem to have for them but they need to hire more people them. The SREC market crashed about a month after my install should have been done. So much money list with these guys, pithy. I told Maryland sun to stay away from them for future projects. If you choose them make sure your contract has a lock solid start and completion date. read more

What abomination of a company, I bought solar panels from them about over six months ago mostly because we were part of a Co-op purchase. Once they got our money, we had to deal with delay after delay along with excuse after excuse and not to forget the never returned phone calls. This is the typical company who once they received payment could just careless about you and your panels or even common courtesy of customer service. Not to self they will pretend to be knowledgeable about their system but once they have your money who knows what will happen next. Consider yourself warned. Perhaps in a year or so I will respond again if and when we ever get our panels finally installed. Who knows maybe Tony the owner might decide to run a company the right way. read more
