AVOID AT ALL COSTS - I am a real-estate investor and multiple homes owner, and all of the properties I work with have solar panels. I am not new to the process, experience, or services rendered when it comes to solar panels. Working with this company has been the worst experience I have had to deal with, ever. They don't understand basic transactions with the electric company; they don't know how to smoothly transfer ownership from one party to another during a sales process; and to top it all off, they work extremely slow and are horrible with communication with their customers leaving you wondering if you are just stuck out of luck because they are "ghosting" you. Please, before deciding to work with them reach out to me and learn about my experience with them compared to other solar companies in the DMV area. Horrendous experience on the phone with a customer service representative, "Jordan," and her supervisor, "Kelly" - with the sum total of the conversations being that Lumina discriminates against all residents of Baltimore City in refusing to conduct business there. I called Lumina on August 12, 2025 to inquire about scheduling a consultation for the potential installation of solar panels on my Baltimore City home. I was promptly told by Jordan that Lumina no longer operates in Baltimore City (despite there being no note of this on their website) due to "permitting issues." I immediately asked to speak with her manager. After being left on hold for 10+ minute (I am sure they were hoping I would just hang/give up - no such luck), Kelly got on the phone and explained that Lumina wants to maintain a "clean" - yes, CLEAN - business pipeline and that Baltimore City just does not fit with that "business goal." Clearly, coded language was being used - I quickly got the impression that, while there may be bona fide permitting issues in Baltimore City, Lumina's purported business decision was based in other factors that Kelly was not going to share with me. I then terminated the call. I doubt Lumina will remain in business once the federal solar panel tax credits expire, but on the off-chance they do, I would never even consider them as an option again for any service after this interaction. read more

Had a leak under our solar panels with heavy rain. A roofer came out and could repair leak but solar panels would need to be removed in the meantime. Explained to Gabe with Lumina the situation and he assured me his techs could fix while taking off the panels. Without any heavy rains things seem ok. Then leaking started again. Gabe had 2 guys come out and claimed the leak came from the fascia near the gutter. Our roofer said that was impossible because the leak was too far in and saw the problem. Now Lumina claims they do not do residental properties even though they took my payment. Looks like I will have to sue with small claims court to get my money back since they did not complete what they claimed to do. read more

We've interacted with at least a dozen different people from the company, and their internal coordination and back-office communication appear disorganized. From the customer's perspective, the experience has been confusing and frustrating. A major oversight occurred in our contract: the final schematics were never sent to us for approval. We only discovered this the night before the installation was scheduled to begin. The battery and inverter installation took three days -- two more than planned -- forcing us to rearrange our work schedules on short notice each time. We then failed the county inspection, are waiting for an electrician to return yet again, and still have no confirmed date for the meter move or panel installation. Every company has its challenges, but Lumina's shortcomings in customer service and communication stand out. If you're seeking a smooth, well-managed solar installation experience, this may not be the right company for you. read more

We had a seamless experience from receiving the quote, installation, getting the system up and running, to resolving a minor error code (pepco meter wasn't registering our consumption). The system produced and accurately registered our production from the beginning. They also helped us with our paperwork for any tax credits and srecs. Tim was responsive and quick to book any appointments even after the system was installed. Customer service like this is what we need in every sector. It is extremely rare to have a company be as responsive as Lumina. We've had a lot of services completed throughout our years of home ownership and this is one of the best experiences we've ever had. read more

TLDR: Careless mistakes; excuses; lost money. Unfortunately, I'm now 4 months post-install and still not operational. Although highly recommended as a reputable, professional, knowledgeable company, my experience should serve as a warning that the hype isn't always correct. Signing: I was in the solar auction process and waiting for the final bid announcement. Lumina told me they'd give a deal just as good as what I'd get if I waited. Turned out that my bid was eventually assigned to Lumina but what they contracted with me was almost $1,000 more expensive for the exact same product. They also pressured this by saying that waiting for the bid would have me competing in county reviews with everyone else who was in the auction. See below re: interconnection... Equipment: I had specifically discussed wanting solar batteries in my basement. My whole system was designed and setup around this premise. Well into the process they updated me that this wouldn't be possible and that the batteries would have to go outside. I absolutely had not wanted exterior batteries but at this point was left with no choice. Not only is this worse for the longevity of batteries but it also required me to cut down landscaping to make space. Inspection: FAILED. They neglected to review their paperwork. Had to reschedule another inspection, losing more time in the process and pushing my entire project back. Interconnection: The lost time on inspection pushed me into the timetable of everyone from the solar auction. By this point a backlog had built up with PEPCO. The "1-2 week" timetable became "more than 5 weeks" because of that. They also failed to provide me with completed paperwork, requiring me to sign documents with blanks and certification of stuff I had never received, all in the name of 'getting it to PEPCO as soon as possible.' Occasionally I would see some email attempt from Lumina to contact PEPCO for an update but with no progress. Eventually I just contacted PEPCO myself, by phone, and spoke with a supervisor who told me they would review it the next day. At every point throughout this whole ordeal my "project manager" offered excuses about how great Lumina is and that, hey, doesn't matter because think how happy I'll be once it's up and running. I don't really take well to platitudes or that kind of nonsense, especially when I've now lost $1,000 on the signing for a timetable that made no difference, and $$$ hundreds more on summer electric bills that should have been covered by solar (not to mention all the SRECs from our overproduction). As of today, 4 months since install (7 months since signing), we still don't have an operational solar system. The only reason Lumina is getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because the day-of install team was great. read more

His main point of the phone was to harass my wife into admitting that they were not at fault instead of trying to find resolution. You just proved my point that your company is unworthy of further business. We can disagree without it being personal. You just made is personal. I will match your respect, but I will exceed your disrespect. That is my word. ************************************** We engaged Lumina Solar after talking with several other solar companies in the area to install our solar panels. They were not the cheapest, but after looking at their online reviews and working with their rep, we decided to go with them. Installation went fine although there were some small problems with communication. There was no complete handoff once the project was done or anyone to walk us through what to expect next. For that, I had to initiate phone calls and emails. Ok, that's done and everything is working fine until I started noticing water spots on my ceiling. Initially, I thought it was the HVAC in the attic that we were having problems with. Called a contractor out to check it out and it wasn't the problem. Then we got a heavy rain and when we went up in the attic, we saw our roof was leaking from several different spots. No leaks prior to solar installation so maybe they unintentionally messed something up. Called Lumina and they said they couldn't get anyone out for almost a week. Meanwhile it is raining like every other day. I kept emailing the customer service rep Mr. Brown and he sends me forms to sign stating they will charge me if the roof problem is not due to installation. Finally, the guys who installed the system say to us that it was probably something they did and they will come back and take care of it. Then the company sends another guy out and he says the opposite. Now we done had 2 weeks of rain on our roof and after them saying it is likely they could have done this; they are totally absolving themselves of any wrong doing. They told us to hire a roofer. Now its not like we were asking them to give us a new roof, just fix the small problems that they likely caused. We are talking at best a couple hundred dollars of repairs after paying them $50k to do an install. After going back and forth, they denied any responsibility. Needless to say, this is not over by far sight for me. On principle any customer focused company would have handled this differently. If I ordered a steak from a Ruth Chris and there was a foreign object in that steak, I know for a fact they would have either taken it off my bill or offered me something for the inconvenience. Partly because they would want me to come back. I guess since solar is a one-time purchase, they don't care about taking care of me. Chose wisely if you are looking for your solar install. read more

Lumina installed our solar array in 2022. It was a challenge to design and optimize a system for our property and we really appreciated that Lumina was willing to work with us and get creative to get us the system we wanted. They have since continued to support us as we have, for example, looked into getting battery backups for our system. I will say that we had a few hiccoughs during installation that I think probably should have been avoidable. Lumina was, however, extremely good about taking ownership of these issues and making sure that they were resolved to our satisfaction. read more

We live in what we knew could be a challenging spot for solar but really wanted to get it. I heard from neighbors that Lumina was careful and stood by their work and so reached out to them. Lumina did a careful review of the site and the surroundings, including our trees, using 3D modeling based on remote imagery (apparently more sophisticated that the 2D based estimates normally done) and told us that solar was highly unlikely to be practical for the site and that they could not in good conscience sell us a system. They noted that either we would have to cut down multiple trees (which would defeat much of the purpose of the solar to begin with) or that the panels would take over 30 years to pay for themselves. I really appreciated this exceptional honesty and integrity and believe it says a great deal! read more

I wrote a review a few years ago as we were having a lot of problems with our 24 panel system with a Tesla Powerwall. I was not pleased then and the nightmare continues... First let me say there is nothing wrong with our design, there was nothing wrong with the professionalism of the installation...my issue has always been the repeated failures and the means in which the management at LUMINA has denied, deflected or ignored my complaints. 3 years after the install we are still having issues, the most previous one is from the storm that traveled along the east coast last August 2023. We experience a grid outage last lasted several days. During this time our system failed and it didn't just fail with the panels themselves, or the charging, but the Powerwall also failed. The system would go down, reboot (not sure if that is the correct term), and then the process would start over. This happened 47 times in one day, eventually damaging our $12,000.00 Monogram fridge, which we had to replace. Not a word from LUMINA on this. Here we are August of 2024 and the system has not been repaired. Oh yeah, LUMINA has been out, approx 8 weeks ago they came out and pulled 12 panels off the system so they no longer charge the Powerwall. I continue to get the excuse that they are working on it, but have no idea what that means. I asked LUMINA for a contact number to any entity within LUMINA, such as an Advocacy Group, but they would not provide, since then I have had to contact the BBB, Attorney General, State agency that mediates with Solar companies and I have retained an attorney to assist me in my endeavors to resolve. I am seeking a complete removal and refund for my solar array, and I know it will be a battle as LUMUNA has repeatedly passed me from manager to manager only to start the process over and over again... read more

Although I am not a Lumina Solar customer, I am a believer after speaking with Kurt. I am already planning an install with another entity but did not do a product/cost comparison. Kurt saved me from the mental anguish and remorse I was beginning to feel from not knowing. Customer service with regards to servicing system is terrible. My system was installed in fall 2023. I have an array down during peak months for a month. The odd issue I mentioned previously wasn't an odd issue, it was a warning sign about this companies faulty work. Terrible customer service. Alex Ticu has been our sales rep and he has done little to help to the point of saying things like "can you tell us more about the noise or no?" This being in response to lumina having to come back out and secure dangerous, loose, shaking panels that were installed improperly. Buying a 50k solar system from a company who clearly cannot correctly install, wont support, and is rude isnt something I recommend anyone else do. Btw. They have me schedule for about a month and a half now until someone will come tighten the panel. I hope no one gets Injured from their work in the meantime. read more

I am incredibly pleased to write a review for Lumina Solar. Hopefully in this review, I can paint a clear picture of my experience. Lumina was the third company I looked at for solar power and the one that gave me the best value. The other two companies I will call Company A and Company B. Company A is a huge company. When I sat down with them, the numbers were not very impressive (offset vs price to own). The rep leaned too heavily on the BIG name of the company.  I just did not see a value. Company B however, gave me an IMPRESSIVE offset number and said I would not have to pay a thing. The rep really pushed for me to lease the system. I had no interest in leasing the system. He told me the "round about price" of owning the system and was somewhat dismissive of my desire to own.  Again, the price to own was TOO HIGH for that IMPRESSIVE offset. The numbers were not to my advantage. Then I met Alex Ticu at a Home Show. Alex was very laid back. I walked past his booth thinking "this little company does solar"? I was already discouraged from talking with 2 much bigger companies, but that little voice inside my head insisted I speak with him. Eventually Alex was in my home. The offset number he provided, was surprisingly good. The price .... I ran a few numbers and it was "on-point"! I signed the paperwork to own the system. The story is the background. This is why you should choice Lumina Solar: Alex Ticu - Upfront and honest. Not pushy! He provided all options upfront as well as the positives and negatives. He also thoroughly educated me about Solar Power and the full financially benefits.  The post-sale support is amazing.  If I had a question, he had the answer, or he found out the answer. He is passionate about solar and it rubbed off onto me. Alex is the MAN! MaryKate Brown and Erika Murray - Post-sales support is also amazing. Always communicating with me, every step from start to finish. Alex, Ryan, Drew and the rest of the crew - These electricians worked their butts off. Very professional. Answered all my questions that arose while they were onsite. I asked them to wear a mask while in my home. They complied and did NOT complain about it. I get compliments from my neighbors about how good my system looks, compared to other homes in my neighborhood. About 40% of my neighbors have solar panels on their roofs. Overall, call Lumina Solar. The solar provider market has become very competitive. You can get proposals that have been done by hand on the back of the napkin, some "let's go crazy put a bunch of solar panels in each square inch of the roof" others do sophisticated software analyses in order to build the solar solution. The serious contenders are providing realistic systems and credible estimates with respect and sanity. As a good consumer you need to get several estimates. For one of these estimates I highly recommend you consider Lumina Solar (www.luminasolar.com). Colin Gload from Lumina Solar provided the most in depth solar analysis and a optimal solar design. The analysis from Lumina is based on LIDAR data in addition to solar factors (latitude, longitude, sun-peak hours, etc.) and the power consumption history, these are standard calculations in the industry. LIDAR data is built by laser scan via satellite or plane flyovers that detect structures (buildings, trees, and anything that is on Earth). Lumina does this to produce the best and optimal placement of solar arrays. I went through a lot of companies and this was definitely the most in depth and clear analysis of the potential of solar in your rooftop. As an engineer I appreciate that level of detail. BTW, they are also, are certified to integrate a Tesla Powerwall to the solar system if you which. From the analysis, Lumina will derive an elegant design (no "Tetris playing" with panels like some companies do). The design would optimize your home's dependency on fossil fuels while at the sametime save you money. This is a serious company and you will be surprised that after all set is done, the cost of the system is reasonable and realistic. There a few out there you must be scared of. I contacted Lumina Solar to help me analyze a site that I am considering for the construction of a new home. The site is completely wooded with many tall trees that can not be removed, so I was not at all certain that the site would get enough sunlight to make a solar installation worthwhile. Initially I called Lumina to ask some basic questions about my situation. I spoke with Zac Hare, who was very helpful in this initial call. I called back about a month later to see if they would be willing to meet with me at their office to look at my plans in more detail, which they agreed to do. In the office Zac used software to build a 3D model of the site, including the trees, which allowed us to test different house orientation scenarios to determine how much sunlight rooftop panels would receive throughout the year. It was very impressive. Ultimately we determined that a solar installation at the site would be possible and worthwhile. Lumina solar did all of this free of charge for a possible installation that is 2-3 years in the future. They took the time to work with me with no expectation of an immediate return on their investment. Another company that I talked to was clearly not interested in working with me at this early stage. Not so at Lumina. While I have not used Lumina to install a solar system yet, I hope to on my next home. What I experienced was a growing company staffed by enthusiastic people who are passionate about what they do, and have the tools and knowledge to help their customers make the right decisions about solar power.
