First you do not show up at 9pm at night to work without any notice to your customers. This is a safety issue for both the employees and the customers! Learn how to run a business!! Then if you cannot provide services to out of town customers then don't take their money and promise them they will get the same service as your Austin customers. If we could give 2.5 stars review.. I would. We had a different experience than other reviewers. I don't know why... I think it was a bad luck from day one! The person who came and did the estimate, Tom, was good. The price isn't too bad, still cheaper than other company we compared the price with. But, we couldn't get anything start until 3 weeks to a month because of the rain that delayed them. Well, what can you do, right? Ok, get into my next subject... their timing is off. Tom called us and said that the person who were going to do the deck will come.. he was running late. I thought OK.. we'll wait. 4 pm came... it was a Friday.. the deck person didn't show up. So, I had to call Tom and made sure that the deck person will come. Tom also told me that the person will be done with the deck in 2 days. 2 days!! I said WOW... But, the person disappointed me. This is why... the deck person did A LOT on Saturday (yes, he came on Saturday, which was good). He was going to come on Sunday, but because we were expecting guests on Sunday, we told him just come on Monday. Monday was Memorial Day. He agreed. Then, Monday came.. of course, he didn't show up like I thought he wouldn't. The person showed up on Tuesday, apologized. Good. I thought. But then, he only worked for an hour or two that day... and left (we thought he went for lunch because he didn't even let us know), but then, he never returned! Wednesday came... he didn't show up. Thursday, he came and poured some concrete then left. Didn't let us know, and never returned. We finally told him that he needed to finish by the weekend (Friday) or he had to come and finish on Saturday. So, he finished everything on Friday. Don't get me wrong. The deck looks BEAUTIFUL- structurally, but the finishes were very rough. There were some gaps everywhere, and looked like he didn't even sand the wood when he was done putting them all up together. It looked like he was in the hurry to get out of work. Also, what kind of ticked us off was that he didn't clean at all. We found garbage (and food garbage) and construction debris everywhere including nails on the grass! Safety issue?! Finally, we got invoice in the mail. Of course, we didn't pay right away. We took pictures of what needed to be done and sent them to Tom. Tom said that the person would return on Monday. And, again, as predicted, the person didn't show up until Tuesday. The deck person returned with a partner, and finished the job. And left without even letting us know they left. What a customer service, REALLY!! The next thing we knew, the company called and said that they were coming to collect their extra timbers. WOW!! Now I know what were part of the delays about. And of course, the delays are going to be long.. The deck person who did our deck only showed up to work an hour or two a day! Did a messy job with the finishes, and it took him a week to finish all when we were promised 2 days. Disappointing. If I'm going to pay thousands of dollars for something to be done, I expect it to be presentable and polished. I don't know if I would say that I'd refer my friends to them. But, it was a learning experience for us. read more

My neighbor and I noticed our fence was one good storm away from falling over. I called Austex and they sent Tom over for a quote right away. He took a few measurements and had a quote to me the next day. The price was extremely fair for the work, so we hired them. The fencing crew came out 1 day, took down the old fence, loaded it on the truck to haul away, and put in new posts. The next day, they were back to put up the new panels and finished very quickly. The new fence looks incredible! They were very efficient and very professional. I highly recommend Austex for your fencing needs!! read more

Here we go. I scheduled this appointment about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I'm in no rush, but their first appointment - as I was told because they are so busy - was today. I'm off on most Mondays so that was perfect for me. Today was the day -- 9:00am. With "Kirk". I'm home - 9:30 passes and goes. I call to advise my appointment was missed - no phone call, nada. The guy I spoke with at 9:45 this morning said he'd find out what happened and let me know. Here I am, still at home on my day off and not a fucking word. This is a simple request, guys. I only wanted a simple bid on a deck build. It's not that damn hard. If you can't get your shit straight just for THAT? Yeah, you have no business to be here on my property nor did you earn your right for my business and money. You just lost at least $5000+ for something simple. You have everything you needed -- I'm listed. I'm the ONLY one on this planet with this name. You completely fucked this one up. I've got other bids coming in, yours is no longer wanted. I don't expect much -- but zero contact with a potential customer? Yeah. I'll go with another local company. Buh buy. read more

My two-star rating is because of their lack of communication and a mistake they made on our adjourning neighbor's fence. I specifically asked that they install the fence during a specific week because I wanted to first cut down a few trees. I asked them to get back to me on an installation date. Instead of confirming a date, they came out on a random day and started to work. Then we received a message saying they had to move the fence line because a couple of trees the in the way. I called and left a message asking them to call me right away. Instead of returning my call, they finished installing the fence the next day. I haven't heard from them since. The quality of their workmanship is okay. Based on my experience and the mistake they made on our neighbor's fence, which affected their sprinklers, I would not recommend this vendor. RESPONSE TO REPLY FROM AUSTEX: I appreciate the apology; however, I find it confusing that my neighbor was the main point of contact for MY fence project, and not me (the person paying for this job,) and that none of our phone calls were returned. The amount of frustration that I've experienced with this company is beyond explanation, however for the sake of helping other people make sound decisions when selecting a fencing company in the Fort Hood area, I'll power through and come up with something. The initial contact with a salesperson (Randy) was fine. He came out to see what I wanted done which was a fence extension for our backyard. Not a complicated or even laborious job. Everything was coming up roses and, according to Randy, I would, "Be so happy with my decision to go with AusTex." So I made the deposit with the request that I get on their installation schedule ASAP as I wanted the extension done prior to our new neighbors move-in. Of course, the deposit was taken and processed as fast as I could press enter. However, days went by with no word from the company. After a week, I called Randy to find out why there had been no information about my start date. He didn't answer, so I left a message on his VM. He sent a text telling me that someone would be calling me that afternoon or the next day with a start date. After waiting until close to 4:30 PM the FOLLOWING day to hear someone, I called the home office. I spoke with Felicia who told me that she had, "Just seen that the file containing my job was JUST placed on my desk this AM." I let her know how odd that was considering Randy told me someone would call me yesterday. Kind of seemed impossible if the lady who was to do the calling didn't even have the packet to call about, but I digress. Felicia told me that they would surely be contacting me MAYBE the next week with a TENTATIVE start date as, once again, she had just received the packet and needed to do some more work to be able to begin the job. I told her the fact that things were progressing so slowly, even though they were quick to take my deposit, and the fact that I specifically requested a quick start date and was told it wouldn't be an issue, caused me to doubt their ability to do the job to my satisfaction and that I wanted to cancel the job and I wanted my deposit refunded immediately. Miraculously, Felicia was able to change EVERYthing she had previously said and assure me my start date would be the Thursday coming. I told her I would give them another opportunity to make things right, but that I hoped I wouldn't regret it. Regret it I did. Thursday came and, having not heard anything the entire week like a courtesy call, I waited until 2PM to see if anyone was going to show up. I left a message for Felicia who "wasn't in the office". Five minutes (exactly) later, she called back and assured me that the installer would be there NO LATER than 4:00PM. I waited until 4:30 and called Felicia who, surprise, didn't answer. I sent an email to her and Randy both telling them I want my deposit refunded and wanted to cancel the job. I was fed up with their lack of professionalism. Lo and behold, at 5:30 PM I go downstairs to start my family's dinner and look out of my kitchen window to see my fence ripped out of the ground. The installer had come and, without letting me know that he was there, ripped out the fence. I can only assume it was because refunding my deposit and therefore losing the job was not an option for AusTex. "If we rip out the fence, she gets stuck between a rock and a hard place." I stopped the guys and asked (in Spanish, because they spoke ZERO English, good luck if you're not bilingual) who told them they could rip out my fence. They said, "we just called and they said, go ahead." There's NOTHING about AusTex I can recommend. We went ahead with the install because it was stupid for us to say, "Take two days to put BACK up or old fence." I believe AusTex used shady business practices to accomplish this. The fence installation was nothing to brag about. The aesthetics leave a lot to be desired. I'm not happy with this company at all. As a military family, I would NEVER recommend this to my military friends. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone for that matter. read more

Austex recently constructed a backyard 6' cedar privacy fence for me, with a locking gate, with the help of their residential projects guy (Jason). The fence looks awesome and their pricing was good compared to other companies. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others. The only hitch I had was that a few pieces of the old fence were not hauled off as they were supposed to. I let Jason know about it, and he had someone out there the next morning to pick everything up. Edit: 3 years later, the fence still looks good, and the gate is working perfectly. read more

I'll try to keep this explanation of our nightmare as short as possible. We needed a new fence. I called several companies out and explained what I wanted, a privacy fence where the pickets butted up together. Not only did I verbally explain this but I showed each company my neighbors fence as an example. Long story short...I was very specific when explaining what I wanted. I even went to Austex's website and saw photo examples of what I wanted. I hired Austex and they installed the fence in two days. My invoice from Austex clearly states that I was buying a STANDARD PRIVACY FENCE. Everything seemed fine at first. Two weeks later I noticed that all my pickets had shrunk and had large gaps between them. I contacted Austex immediately and they sent someone out to inspect when I wasn't even home. They said that a couple of pickets did qualify for replacement because they had too large of gaps. I was shocked that I was not able to meet the inspector at my house due to them showing up announced. I was also shocked that they did not admit that my entire fence had shrunk. Needless to say I was very upset. I then emailed our original rep. He came back out and I prepared several photos for him and tried to explain what our concern was. He then told me that after installing hundreds of fences that I was the only one who has ever complained. He then said it really didn't matter because they were going to "work with me". Austex's solution to selling me a privacy fence that shrunk was to install a small picket over every single gap. This is definitely not something I want for the next ten years but I guess it'll be better than having large gaps in my fence. I said okay...but then Austex informed me that they would only give me half off the job. They wanted another $1128 to fix their mistake. I told Austex that I would consider doing the extra pickets. Of course in the meantime I asked some other fence companies to come out and also quote me for the same job. I did not tell any of the other companies that Austex quoted me $1128, which was half off their normal price. All three of the other fencing companies quoted me between $1100 and $1200. I was very shocked by the fact that my "half off" price was actually what everyone else normally charges. While I had the other companies out I asked them if cedar normally shrunk like my fence had. All three companies explained to me that cedar shouldn't shrink as much as mine did if the cedar was properly dried. All that meant was leaving it out in the sun for a day or two prior to installing. At this point I noticed a new issue. My pickets were now buckling. They were bowing in the middle and curving in at the top and bottom. Keep in mind that at this point my fence is not even two months old. I called and asked Austex to come out and fix these. They came and replaced all the ones I flagged but my major concern is that the rest of the pickets are going to buckle as well. You see Austex did not install a third rail on my fence. There is just a top and bottom rail. Again all of the other companies that came out explained to me that the third rail is the only thing that will prevent the pickets from buckling. After my 1 year warranty is expired I'll have to randomly replace pickets as they decide to bow...and then the replaced pickets will also bow unless a third rail is installed. Long story short...get EVERYTHING IN WRITING if you decide to use Austex. They acted dumb about the entire situation but in my last email from Austex our annoyed rep actually admitted that I do not have a privacy fence but instead just a standard cedar fence. My invoice states it's a Standard Privacy Fence. Now that they have actually admitted that I did not get what I paid for I'm in the process of filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

We've used Austex for 2 different fence projects - one was bull panel and the other was removing chain link and replacing with wood privacy fences. These were done about 6 months apart. Their prices on both projects were great. I had another fence company tell me that they wouldn't even come give us a bid if the project was less than $1000 (the 2 sections of bull panel + gates were like $900 6 months ago with Austex, the wood fence + chain link removal was ~$1200 this month with Austex). Neil is super nice, responsive, thorough, timely, etc. Terry at the office was also great to deal with. On the recent project, the demo crew was late to show, and I called to check in...not only did Neil and Terry get right on it, but the next day Brad called to say sorry for the crews un-timeliness. Tommy the fence builder is a "fence artist". He does beautiful work. Now all of our fences are fixed and look great. I will definitely use them for future projects, and recommend them highly to everyone looking for a fence contractor. read more

Had Austex replace a wooden fence for me in October 2014. Things have been great. About a month ago, I noticed some ponding of water in my backyard near the fence. I passed this off as a result of all the rain we've had. A month later, still ponding even after a couple of weeks of little to no rain. So this weekend I start trying to dig a trench to drain some of this ponded water. Trench drained water successfully, except the water didn't stop. I had created a small tributary instead of having a small pond. I traced the water to a location directly under a fence post right next to the house. On Monday morning (07/06/2015) I called AusTex. After first telling me to talk to the water company (which I did, and whom told me they were not responsible for this), I called AusTex back. The operator told me to hold on a minute while she talked to a supervisor. They would send a plumber out that day. Plumber showed up a couple hours later, and after about 3 hours, the leak was fixed. The fence post concrete was resting on top of the water pipe. A+ for AusTex for owning up to the problem and getting it fixed quickly for me. My 4th of july weekend was a little rattled thinking I might be out both a fence, and an expensive plumb job. read more

We've had Austex come out on two different occasions to replace sections of fence/gates on our property. Both times Tom came out when he said he would, and provided an accurate quote on the work. Even when we made small revisions, Tom updated the quote and asked for our sign off. The Austex crew performed the work as scheduled. Even when they were short materials, due to a larger than anticipated ground level difference on the back fence line, they communicated promptly and set reasonable expectations on when they would return to complete the work (just a couple days). Tom and crew were courteous, communicative, and consummate professionals throughout the process. Even with February '13 windstorm delays, Tom made sure we were taken care of and set our expectations appropriately about when the work could be completed given their schedule, and then followed through on his word. I highly recommend Austex for their professionalism and quality of work. read more

One star is appropriate for the finished job. Not because the finished product is bad but because of the shady business tactics. These people are shady, straight lied to me about why they tried to reuse my old wood deck frame. No explanation as to why they tried to avoid using joist hangers (acted like they didn't know what I was talked by about) but the next day they reframed with new wood and joist hangers were suddenly present. That was the last time I got to work all to the contractor, he never answered my calls and i had to deal with the front desk which of course couldn't explain anything Because they didn't know what was going on. Wish I could say the finished product is good but it's not finished. They called asking for payment and I asked if someone was coming out to QC the project first. Unfinished edges, nails sticking out, unstained railings, mess in the yard. It took a few days for someone just to come out to do the nails. I still have a mess and an unfinished deck. Was told they don't do that and refer that work to others. I don't have a problem with that except that it would have been nice to know that before hand. I refused to use anyone they recommended. I left this review on their own agency review but never heard back from anyone. I will use someone else for my fence. read more

The true measure of a company is how they handle things when something goes wrong. I was contacted the same day after my previous review. After resolving the missed communications, Austex came out at my convenience and replaced the defective pickets to my satisfaction, and tested the work to make sure the dog wouldn't be knocking any further pickets loose. They explained my warranty and gave me confidence that if there were further issues, I could rely on them to take care of it. I'm happy enough that I'll be contacting them soon to handle the remainder of new fencing we need. read more

She also informed my aunt that someone would be at our house on 6/8 and what time. Low and behold - the materials arrived and Jeff built us a wonderful deck yesterday. This morning my aunt received a call from David Lockett (sp?) apologizing for the mess and checking to see if our deck is to our satisfaction. I had to update my review STAT. They took a terrible customer service sitatuion and turned it on it's head! They have shown stellar service once the right hand started talking to the left hand. I was told this company installed the fencing within our community. We purchased our home in April 2016 for our daughter attending grad school and have already had to repair one side of the fence as it was leaning so bad it fell over (repair done October 2018). They used a landscape timber as a post and didn't dig deep enough or used enough cement. UPDATE: 10/3/18 AusTex came out today and evened out our fence. It looks much better now! It's unfortunate that this resolution took weeks to come to, and was completed with much resistance. However, we are very happy that they did the right thing, and adjusted the fence to look more like what we were expecting. Hopefully they work on speedier and customer-friendly resolutions in the future! The final product is probably a 4 star job, but getting to this point was like pulling teeth! This company is horrible. Please, do yourself a favor and spend your money on a better company. From their customer service, to their workmanship, they are terrible. My husband and I have both tried to resolve this with the company, and so far no luck. They do not seem to care about customer satisfaction, nor do they care about completing jobs in a visually pleasing way OR in a timely manner. This was our experience: The only thing they were supposed to do is place new posts for us, one foot over from where our fence originally was and then reinstall the pieces at that new property line.... they managed to put it back in a way where our fence now looks janky. It is uneven with gaps, where as it was not like that before, AND they're refusing to fix it. Residential Coordinator, NIEL's, response was "well the fence didn't look good before, so....." First of all, that's his opinion, which I think was pretty unprofessional to say in the first place. Secondly, i think it looked fine before. The only reason we had the fence work done is because there was a property line issue. And for close to a $1000 job, EVEN IF it looked bad before, we aren't paying them to make it WORSE, if anything they should have aimed to improve it. I wish they would have turned down the job, if they were not capable (at the least) of installing it to the same standard as it was previously installed. we got tge fence installed few months ago, its looked nice and neat at first . But now in a matter of 4 to 5 months its falling off and the gate wont shut and we are leaving for vacation for a week, I hate to leave the gate open like this. The base of the fence was not done right, so its coming loose amd is wobbly. I cant believe this, it was so expensive and it didnt even last a year. I am very dissapointed. read more

They installed a fence in my neighborhood.. Im so mad at my builder for hiring this business. They use timber post for gardens, instead of 4x4 for fences. They used #3 cedar boards with lots of holes on it. Not #2 a better standard board must fence companies use. They're quality is horrible.. If value your property stay away from this business.. We wanted to get a 30' black iron pool fence installed in our backyard. Austex came back to us quickly with a very competitive quote. The work was scheduled and done in a very timely manner. The fence looks great, and they did an excellent job avoiding all my pool and water lines. They also did a good job of cleaning up aftewards. Overall I'm very pleased and would definitely use them again. 2 things of note, both fairly minor: 1. make sure you give the guy that does the quote very explicit instructions about exactly where you want the door, fence, any things to watch out for, etc. Tried to get ahold of someone the night before, and then the morning of, and eventually had to leave a note for the workers (which they ignored). Ended up OK but that was a little frustrating. 2. I had dug holes to show where the pool and sprinkler lines were and one was right where a fence post went. But instead of filling in around the lines and then just cementing the post or putting a form in, they filled the entire hole with cement. Not an issue now, but having my lines encased in cement was not ideal. When those lines needs to be serviced it will cause some headaches. read more

Bought a brand new house with fence put in by AusTex. They used landscape timbers for all the poles, including corners. Fence blew over, landscape timbers broke at the ground. Called and was told fence is not covered by warranty. I have dug out the landscape timbers and replaced them with specified fence poles, with the proper tensile and sheer factors. read more

These people are horrible and if I was not forced to use them when my house was being built, I would have gone somewhere else. My wife and I had a house built in Cedar Park not to long ago and the fencing needed to be replaced prior to occupancy (we delayed moving in for at least 2 weeks to get services into the house/property). Since the builder had a contract with this company, we had to use them. So they made arrangements with Austex and my wife initial contact with them was good. But when it came to execution, thats where it all fell apart. We had the installation scheduled so that the crew would start around 9 am, but they did not show up until at least 11, or 12 without any notice or warning that they would be late. It took them all day to take down the fence, and by 5pm when I went by the house, none of the posts had been set and there was no one on site. By the time I went back the next day, all of the posts had been set, but none had any bracing and the majority of the posts were barely in plumb. That being said, when they had completed the fence, they had put the panels in backwards so that there are now gaps underneath the fence where the grass had previously grown up to the previous fence. Not to mention they left trash in our back yard including 2 cartridges of nails for their nail gun. If that wasn't the worst of it, at the beginning of this month I noticed that there was a sprinkler running. Lo and behold, that when the fence company had reversed the panels, they fenced a neighbors sprinkler. When my wife had called the company, they said it was not their problem and the neighbor initially had the sprinkler too close to the fence. They are all talk before the project with no post project customer service and their attitude has been you get what you get. If I could have rated them 0 I would. Oh yeah, why is it that after they have completed a job, they instantly put their sign up so they can advertise?? There was no consultation that they would be doing that nor do I think I need to be advertising for them. read more

I called a number of companies to get estimates, I received prices that were higher and lower, but the professional service I received when the Austex representative arrived was far better than all the other companies put together. The service for the installation and all the follow up discussions were awesome! The crew was done ahead of schedule and were very considerate when told my neighbor just had a baby. My neighbor later told me they never heard a thing. We are very happy with the installation and service, if you are considering a fence installation, Austex Fence should be your first call! read more

I just had a house built and my fence since day 1 looks terrible. The fence is only 3 months old and already has holes, cracked pickets, and a gate ready to fall apart any day now. I left a message with Austex and no one called me back. I called the next day and a manger said someone would come by. I never saw or heard from them. I called back a few weeks later and am still waiting for this to be resolved. I would never recommend this company and the cheaply made product and bad service it provides. read more

Austex just finished a replacement fence job at my home and I'm very pleased with the job. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

I called and got Tom as my representative. We needed a fence to keep our two dogs in. The backyard was almost fully fenced in, we just needed two small sections to close the gap. He was very nice and told me he could come out and give me a quote without being home. He returned the quote within that day and said as soon as I paid the first half they could get started on the job. We only needed a walk through gate and a small part of a fence insttalled so it was not a big job. The morning of the installation, a man and his wife showed up to do the job. The wife sat on our porch, while her husband who had taken off his shirt dug up our yard. Well, not long into it, he hit our sprinkler system. No big deal, stuff happens. However, he ran around the yard yelling for my husband (with his shirt off) to turn the water off. Then he told my husband "I hope you bought insurance" because they do not cover the insurance for their own mistakes. Luckily, Tom tacked it onto my bill (an added expense that shouldnt be put on the customer.) After the situation was finally under control, he proceeded to finish the job. My husband left for work leaving the man (and his wife) to finish the job. Later in the afternoon I got another call, this time they hit the electric line! (I was still calm about this, because after all, sh*t happens right?!) A lady from the office called to tell me this and that they would fix it thanks to me getting the insurance plan. (RIPOFF - companies should fix their own mistakes). I was never once apologized to for the inconveniece of having to have both the water company, and the electric company out, as well as someoen to fix the sprinkler line. Also, the lady on the phone told me that they were not making any money on this project. Why she felt the need to tell me that, I don't know. It's not my fault they are the ones who messed up. I got home later that night and noticed that they installed a piece of fence so high that my dog could easily run right through it. The whole part of the fence was for my dogs to not get out, and creatures of the night to not get in. I had to get them to come back out and put a bar in to fix the problem. My whole point of this review is not to tell you not to use them. But do so at your own discretion. You never know who will actually show up at your house to do the job and how well it will be done. And the customer service was nice, but not appologetic at all for any mistakes that were made. Now that the fence (and all of the problems) have been fixed, it does look nice. However, I would not hire them again for the bigger projects we have in the future (EX. Our $50K deck that needs to be replaced) But ever since the snarky comment about them not making money on our small job, I will not be calling them back to do the big job. read more

This is a terrible fence company. In 2009, when my brand new house was built, I did not realize that they did not bury the fence posts in concrete, they just dug holes and put the exposed wood in the bare clay. Now the bases are rotten and today with the six inches of rain and high winds we experienced in south Austin, my back yard fence just blew over. I had a great experience with Austex and my new fence. I scheduled an appt with Neil Kreitzer and he showed up early and provided me with a bid on the spot. (He went in his car, drew up some numbers brought it back to me.) His bid was $2000 less than another company and about $250 higher than another...which he matched. The work began within 2-3 days and he followed up with email contact and a hand-written thank you note. I'm in sales and think the hand-written note goes a LONG way. Well, to be honest, there is no decent fencing company in Austin. Austex is probably the best company you can find in Austin. They charge quite a bit, but all of them do. We compared several other companies before deciding on using Austex. People who came to work were mexicans who didn't speak much English. I am pretty sure they got paid at the minimum wage. They finished our fence in 2 days. They did a decent job despite they cut our cable lines and claimed that they were not responsible for it. It cost us almost $5000 for a 1/4 acre land. read more

Solid work, Tom was good to work with and the team was hard working. Very competitive pricing, I did shop around and read reviews. The pickets were nice and tight, the fence post sturdy and the door swings smoothly. Only a minor gap from the ground in the middle of the fence prevents me from giving 5 stars. I'd recommend them. I got my neighbor to use them too, he was very impressed.I will likely use them again. read more

I can't say enough about this company. The guys that installed the fence were courteous, efficient, and professional. Our fence is beautiful, and the pickets are perfectly aligned, which can't be easy to do on a sloped lot like ours! Our sales rep was Don Dekay. This guy is the best in the business. We will definitely refer them to anyone that needs work done, and we'll be using them again in the near future. read more
