With almost 25 years of fence building expertise, minor modifications were a snap, the fence was completed on time and feels like it will stand true for many years to come. I had a good, but not great experience with Barrier Fence Systems. We needed a fence to be but up at a house we were moving into rather quickly. Paul was extremely attentaive, gave us a quck estimate which was lower than the competition by a significant amount, and worked with us to have the fense installed in a timely manner. The materials were also of good quality. However, to have the top of the fence slope with the terrain, they left some rather large gaps at the bottom of the fence which I then had to address. They also use only a two run system (top and bottom) without having a middle runner. They really should specify that in the bid and contract. If we ever needed another fence, I'd consider using them again but would significantly tighten up the contract. read more

We had Mark's crew back out to replace our side fences and gate after high winds blew part of the old original fence down. We decided to have him add a lattice screen in front of our air conditioners while he was out. Their lattice is completely custom made of really high quality materials. It's a lot thicker and nicer than anything you'd find at a home improvement store, but it's still nicely affordable. It's worth mentioning that my husband and I were in the process of digging some post holes to hang a hammock while we had this work done. We were having a lot of trouble due to the amount of limestone in our backyard. The crew jackhammered out the limestone for us and set our posts as a bonus. Above and beyond service. I think the number of positive reviews has increased their workload significantly lately. It required a little bit of patience in scheduling. That said, it was hands down worth the wait. Im updating my post. My deck had been built for 4 months. One week later, rains came and they have been here since. My deck is leaking MORE AND MORE every storm and is getting damaged every time. Its damaging my house now too.The roof was connected wrong and won't seal. I have complained, Paul stated its going to cost me. I raised hell and he sent two roofers out for bid 1.5 months ago and he told them they were too pricey. 1 month ago, he stated he was made to buy the material and will be dropping off on the deck that weekend and the crew will text when they will be completing the job. never happened, now completely ignoring me. 6k wasted and overcharged too begin with is how I feel. Next step is reporting, then taking to small claims court. read more

Recent stormy weather blew down two or three sections of my old back yard fence. I contacted Barrier and they quoted me $400 (their minimum) and, after a couple of delays, came out and repaired it. It's...okay. But, they mentioned returning to finish up a couple of things such as protruding screws and never did. They also stopped replying to my polite queries by phone and email. Only reason I can think of why is that I'd already paid by then. 10/25 UPDATE: Barrier has since contacted me and returned to cut off the protruding screws. read more

You would never think it would be so hard to get a fence replaced in Austin. I spent the last few months researching and getting quotes from a variety of companies to replace my rear fence. All were more expensive than I thought but none were in any rush to come out and do it. It was a simple job, 60 feet of fence with no gates, but almost none of the 6 companies I called, were even willing to come out and give me a quote or could commit to a start date for at least a month from the date I called. I couldn't believe how hard this was just to get a fence put up. Barrier Fence was the one exception. They quickly responded to my request and found a way to fit me into their schedule and meet my deadline. I was skeptical given there were some bad reviews on here, but they went above and beyond to make everything right, despite some complications on my end. The initial project had a few issues, being that my HOA were extra picky about things, their rules didn't specify. So even though Barrier had already set wooden posts they helped me swap them with metal ones and kept the price to upgrade reasonable. A few weeks later the crap really hit the rafters, when I found out another hidden HOA rule...they wanted my fence facing the opposite direction. My wife and I nearly had a heart attack...they even threatened to sue and fine us. I called Mark, the owner and within a few days had a crew back out to flip the whole thing around plank by plank. I honestly can't say enough good things about these guys and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. They stick to their promises, do great work and provided an amazing level of customer service, given the issues I threw at them. Barrier Fence just did a great job replacing the fence around my home. From beginning to end, the process was professional, enjoyable and everything you would want it to be. I started by contacting several fence contractors online and got vague, unimpressive quotes from their websites. After expressing interest on Barrier's website, Paul contacted me and came out to have a look and take some measurements. He talked about some options and explained the pros and cons of each, no pressure or upsell. After giving him my preferences he promised me a quote within a few days. The quote arrived as promised, clearly stated and thorough, and competitive with all the other quotes I had received. I had one question which was quickly answered, and we scheduled a start date. Paul explained how the demolition/installation process would go, and things went as described. He came out to get the job started, and even went over to talk to the neighbor to explain that his team would be standing on their property a bit while working on the fence, even though I told him I had already taken care of that. The crew was courteous and careful of our landscaping and the irrigation system that was next to the fence. There was no damage to either, which amazed me since they removed the old posts which were set in concrete. Throughout the whole process I was always able to contact Paul and get a quick response. I guess I'm like most of the other 3 stars or fewer reviews here. I had a good, not great experience with Barrier. I've had two fences installed by them at two separate properties. The good - I have never had a problem getting a quote or getting someone to start on the project. Their final work looks great, as shown in most of the pictures. The bad - The price they bid for the iron fence (which I found out later, they had never done before) was really high. Like nearly $10k high. I get it, custom builds and the materials cost a lot. But this seemed really high for the number of panels installed (only front and back of a 600 sf house, no sides) and the two young guys they sent out to construct this thing for the very first time. The bid for a horizontal cedar fence at another property was much more competitive. The ugly - I had some issues with both fences that took FOREVER to get resolved (also called out in other non-5 star reviews). The most critical issue is *still* not fully resolved, but I'm tired of going back and forth with them and will get someone else to handle it. While one issue was a minor annoyance that was eventually fixed (swing gate was way too heavy for the flimsy handle they installed, so a gust of wind easily broke it), the critical issue involved a gaping hole in the fence where a panel was never installed. I have video of people (mostly kids) trespassing on my property because of the large gap. I got the fence installed for safety in my neighborhood, and my security cameras caught kids, package thieves, etc coming and going through the open part of the fence as they pleased. I paid way too much money for this to be the case, but it took several weeks of calls and emails to finally get them back out to put up temporary fixing until they could install the final panel. That was weeks ago, and the panel is still not installed. But like I said, I'm tired of dealing with them. The project was supposed to be completed almost a year ago. They also left a lot of brush, rubbish, and materials (like extra paneling, concrete bags, etc) at my property for me to dispose. More $$. The fences look great, but overall not super impressed with the professionalism of these guys. Will probably be going with handy friends or another company for the next one. read more

Paul came out for the estimate and immediately began telling me what parts of my fence material could be reused (like metal posts) and I immediately knew I could trust him to tell me what I needed and what I really didn't need. Wow - wish I could echo all these wonderful reviews here on Yelp! It was headed that way, but Dean at Barrier Fence dropped off the face of the earth half way through the process. Dean, Project Manager, at Barrier Fence (Mark's Father-in-Law), came over to provide an estimate. Dean appeared to be a stand-up guy, and I liked the fact that they used all cedar products. Their price was a little higher than others I received, but decided to go with Barrier anyways, and advised Dean of such. Initial email communication with Dean was good. He emailed me and said he would pencil me in two to three weeks from acceptance. We'll it's been three weeks, and I've called twice, left messages each time, and emailed, and have received NO response. Very disappointed with experience. Not sure how companies like this in Austin survive. I've taken my business elsewhere and suggest you do the same. read more

DO NOT HIRE BARRIER FENCE SYSTEMS TO DO YOUR FENCE, UNLESS YOU ARE OK WITH LARGE GAPS AT THE BOTTOM, OUR 40 LBS DOG FIT UNDER THE FENCE. THEY DON'T WANT TO FIX IT! We share a fence with our neighbor, and paid half of our share. Efren, the Barrier Fence employee who we dealt with was aware that we were in the process of building a pool as we had discussed it with him. Furthermore, the entire pool and deck was flagged in our yard, which was impossible to miss. Unfortunately, we were not given a contract from Barrier as our neighbor negotiated with them, all we have from them is an invoice. There are large gaps at the bottom of the fence, some as large as 7"-8", my 40lbs dog fits under it which defeats the purpose of a fence. Unfortunately, the company is unwilling to adjust the gaps and make them compliant with the city, because we don't have a contract with them. I believe it is the company responsibility to provide the client with a contract, they sure knew who to charge and send the invoice to when the time came to pay. We have already paid them a significant amount of money, now Barrier wants to charge us extra, since they say Efren did not write our pool project in our neighbors contract. Extra money to fix an issue that could have been avoided in the first place had the fence been built properly.I would strongly advise anyone considering this company to walk in the opposite direction. We ended up using Allied Fence & Security for the rest of our yard, since we were displeased with the craftsmanship of Barrier. You will not be disappointed if you chose Allied, they were professional, on time, and did a spectacular job. read more

Went outside to work in the garden all morning - no show. Later in the day discovered a message on my phone asking to finalize time. Called back to apologize for not receiving the message. I called the company less than a week before Christmas, looking for an urgent fence repair before my new dog arrived. Not only did the owner come out for a prompt quote, but he happily worked out four different prices for me to choose from, depending on my choice of materials and whether I wanted the repair done in a diagonal or squared off. His quote was a tiny bit higher than the next lowest one I'd gotten, but he could come out a lot sooner, and was great about prompt communication. Then he got his crew out here the day after I agreed; they arrived a little later than anticipated, but he called ahead to let me know, and they were fast and efficient. They were done by just after lunch, cleaned up after themselves, and left me with a shiny (well, woody) new fence that was exactly what I needed. Barrier Fence just recently completed a project including us and five other homes and I have to say he has exceeded my expectations. After interviewing several fence companies, we selected Mark who appeared not only fair priced, but forthright, honest, hard working, and extremely knowledgeable. I also found him to be reachable by phone and if not immediately available would respond in a timely manner. He was very knowledgeable about our options and helped explain what he would do to complete the project (our fence is a bit challenging because it rests on a hill). I am most impressed with not only the quality of his work and attention to detail, but also his Project Management skills. I sent out for 3 bids, one guy said measure yourself and I charge this much per square foot, the next guy took so long to respond Mark was done with my fence already. I was given contract that spelled out EVERY detail and cost so their were no surprises or hidden costs. I had 310 feet of fence COMPLETE in 2 days. No matter if I called, texted, or emailed, Mark responded quickly. There were ZERO surprises and the workmanship is great. I hired barrier fence after a storm blew off my yard gate. They came out in a timely manner and gave an accurate estimate for a new gate and replacement of some old posts. I do not have a fancy yard or fence and they worked with me to use my existing fence and did Not try to oversell me. They provided what I needed and even took out an old cement post holder that had nothing to do with the part of the fence they were fixing. After the installation I had a small problem with the gate and they came back and fixed it. I've had work done on my house for other things (windows and a tile installation) and contractors did not come out to fix small problem after dozens of calls and emails. Barrier did a big heavy 8 foot cedar fence for my back yard. I live against a rented 2 story frat / flop house. This fence solved about 98% of the sight line situation and it makes the entire back side of my yard private and secluded. I'm still adjusting to the shock. This is a strong fence with heavy grade galvanized steel poles, jack hammered into rock, based with concrete. Excellent work, good communication about exactly what I wanted to happen. I have to say that the City of Austin permitting process is a bear. This was an enormous bother to get orchestrated and for a 78 foot stretch of fence, the City charged me $563.00 for permitting and inspection. Ridiculous. Barrier is a busy company, so call way ahead. read more

We wanted a great aesthetic, competitive cost, craftsmanship and personal attention. Jackpot! We got it all. Barrier Fence cares about doing great work and their reputation. Fences are not always easy, there are neighbors to coordinate with, lots of decisions to make and issues to take into consideration (old fences, gas lines, etc.) Dean was on top of all the aspects. He came out to double check the measurements I gave him (from another bid- and they were wrong), and let me know they would get started the next day! We needed 15 fence posts replaced. We had trouble getting bids from different fencing companies, but Barrier was timely in their response and came in significantly below the other 2 bids we received. They were a few hours late in showing up, but once they did, they got to work quickly. Hiring people or companies to do work like this is very painful for me since of course "I can do it" however spending multiple weekend digging holes, pouring cement, acquiring materials, construction and of course dealing with neighbors trying to split money up is just too much.
