Total waste of a couple thousand dollars for install and watering bills and now I need to call an actual professional company to redo the whole area. We had a dual-trunk Hackberry tree (pretty much 2 trees) in the front yard that wasn't doing so well and presented a danger to pedestrians and vehicles on the street (they are known to snap and fall, especially during storms). With increasing risk, and our & neighbors' shared concerns, we decided to remove the tree asap. I called several places and all needed time to even come out to take a look and provide an estimate. Called Austex and talked to Mike. What happened next is an exceptional customer service: I sent a few pictures to Mike and he was able to provide an estimate almost immediately, which was reasonably priced. I explained that I have been concerned as the tree was drying out visibly more than other trees and leaning over the street. One trunk had swallowed a part of a pre-existing fence. Mike said he understood the worries and said he'd try to squeeze our job in and figure out a way to send out a crew. That was this morning. It's afternoon now and Abraham and crew are finishing the job outside as I type. No fuss, immediate communication, good price. The trees were in pretty dire need of some TLC as the previous homeowner had not trimmed them in about 15 years. Abraham was informative, responsive to my requests and questions, and very professional throughout the process. Last year these folks did some emergency work for me at my dad's house, so I already knew they were great - fast, thorough, friendly and professional. This time, I had two big trees and a little tree that needed to be removed, plus a huge overgrown bush. They came to give me an estimate the same day I called, and scheduled the work the next day. On time at 8:00 a.m. and done by noon ... they took out the three trees, the bush, ground the stumps, and trimmed the tree limbs away from two sides of the roof, only charging me for the two big trees since I was a repeat customer. Chipped all the debris on site, raked the remainders, cleaned up, and left me with a beautiful yard. They didn't require payment until after the work was satisfactorily done. I am so upset and distraught. I hired Austex to remove 2 trees, trim the trees & branches around the home to provide a five to eight foot clearance around the house, and raise the canopy on one tree. The did a great job removing the 2 trees but when it came to tree trimming and raising the canopy, they butchered 2 trees which now look absolutely terrible. They came at 8 AM with 6 guys and by 10 AM the damage was done. I noticed they were hacking off and butchering very large limbs and disfiguring the tree so I got off my work call and went out to look and the damage was done. I told them to stop. My live oak on the side of the house and the tree that was suppose to have the canopy raised are now disfigured. Instead of trimming the branches growing towards the house, they took out entire huge limbs that fundamentally butchered the tree. When I pointed to the tree to the crew leader and asked him "do you think that looks good" he shrugged his shoulders and said "you told us to cut the trees so they are away from the house". I will post pictures later of the damage they did. I would never recommend this company to trim trees, only to remove them. They just hacked limbs off the tree without any regard at all to the aesthetics of your trees and property. I am so upset now....when I hired them Hale came out and walked the entire property with me and we pointed out which branches and how much should be removed (he even had a laser pointer with him to point out what should be removed). When his crew showed up...Hale was nowhere to be found to supervise the crew. Finally, thier website states they are "Certified Arborists" and accredited by TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association). I went to both the ISA Certified Arborists website which is the organization that certifies Arborists and the TCIA website. You can search both websites to see who is certified, Austex has no employees who are Certified as Arborists and their company came back as not accredited by TCIA. You can believe the 5 star reviews. For over 30 years I have used many services for our 1/3-1/2 acre lot full of oaks and elms. I used to just take the next guy that came to my door and then haggle to what I thought was decent price. Of course quality varied. Then came the time we had to remove too dang many live oaks and I sought bids. Austex came in second lowest but was the most first-class firm. I was blown away because I would have thought they'd be the highest due to their large Yellow Pages ad and the truck the guy drove up in. We've used them exclusive since and each time I can not have been happier with all facets of the work. Best is that every time they seem to do something that wasn't in the job description. It's as if their crews are told to give extra value. For example, the last job was to remove one tree that had died and to clear the roof. When I got home they had also cleaned up all the low hanging dead branches in the front yard those around the back patio - neither area anywhere near the roof or would ever be. Not in the job description. Another big extra was once they were there to clear the roof and remove another couple trees. (Of the trees we lost to oak wilt some we waited to remove until they'd fallen.) Previously I had cut down all the shrubs around the patio. I had a dinky chain saw and so had left 10-12 stumps 2-3 inches high. Again, I come home to see they had all been taken down to ground level. Again, no mention of this being requested but easily something worth doing. read more

I have 50 live oaks on my 1/4 acre lot in Lakeway. We had several limbs hitting the house and Angel and crew came out initially to cut them back for clearance. Once live oak pruning season began (today, July 1st), Angel and his crew of 8 came out to prune and lift the canopy completely around the house. The team did an amazing job, it took them 8 hours to complete it, and they were careful to observe the live oak rules. Angel consulted me at several points throughout the day to make sure I was happy with the results. I asked for him to make some adjustments, which he happily took the extra time to get it exactly the way I had envisioned. I had an Arizona Ashe that bit the dust and needed to be removed and I also needed some tree trimming done on trees that were 19 years old and were hitting the house. From the initial call through the tree stump grinding, everyone I had contact with was professional, low-keyed (read, no high sell) and very well informed. Joe, and his crew of 4, came in and took the tree down in about a half hour along with pruning all of the trees that needed a haircut. They had a 15% discount going on, so I saved quite a bit, but the cost, itself, was more reasonable than other quotes I had gotten. I'd definitely recommend them for these kinds of services.
