Wow I can't even begin to tell you how amazing my experience was. Walking in the place smelled great, felt cozy(I love the hanging lights), and I loved walking around barefoot. Josephine was my massage therapist. I've gotten probably close to 30 massages in the past few years and she was by far the BEST. I love deep tissue with tigger point and constant deep pressure throughout. That's exactly what I got! She was really good at checking in about pressure and making sure I was cozy. First the back story. I first discovered Ashiatsu last year, and as my friends (I think they're still my friends) can attest I would NOT shut up about it. For me, Ashiatsu is the best kind of massage. I hear "Hurt So Good" playing in my head every time I have it done. I was going somewhere else in town for it, but the employees there were not happy campers and I really picked up on that. Not conducive to a therapeutic, healing experience. Then a happy accident. Turns out a few of my FB friends were friends of 'Austin Ashiatsu' and it was suggested that I friend him/her/it too. Well I was intrigued. I checked out the site and learned about Cathy and I think I booked an appt the same day my friend request to her was accepted. don't you LOVE the new, modern world?? :) So I go to my appointment and I meet Cathy. You can just sense she's about helping people. That is HUGE with me. I pick up on it when people are or are not (as do most people) and I was so glad that I made the right choice. I believe she is the fourth Ashiatsu therapist I've had now and by far the best. She really listens to you, and CARES about helping you. Like most people, I tend to carry stress in my neck and shoulders causing tension and pain. For 6 years now I have noticed the pain progress, and I am also finding that regular massages are necessary! After having had many deep tissue massages, I decided to look into acupuncture as well. Luckily, my co-worker and I got to talking and he mentioned I go see his friend Cathy at Austin Ashiatsu. I booked an appointment online and BAM! My very first ashiatsu experience....the location is convenient and easy to find. I walked in to the dark, peaceful room that smelled of wonderful essential oils and talked to Cathy about my problem areas. Once we got started I knew this massage wasn't going to be like any other I've had. Immediately I felt the tension start to dissipate in my own body. The amount of pressure was PERFECT, she worked on areas that I didn't even know were tense. I learned about possible causes of stiffness, and things I could do to help myself. I know I'm echoing previous reviewers when I say that the treatment I received at Austin Ashiatsu was simply the most effective I've massage therapy I've ever had, bar none. I feel like I have discovered something that is a true gift to my tired, old body. I booked a combo Ashiatsu/Acupuncture appointment for my first visit. I was in such pain I figured I'd better go all in. I'm SO glad I did. Cathy spent a good amount of time before the treatment began just talking to me and learning about my issues (multiple and long-term), then carefully tailored my treatment to exactly what I needed. It was simply amazing. She was able to work out knots and kinks that no other massage method has ever been able to touch. And the acupunture at the end of the treatment added so much to the overall experience. I've already booked a return visit, but in the meantime, the lower back pain/sciatica I've been struggling with forEVER has decreased significantly, and the arthritic pain in my elbow has almost disappeared completely. Unbelievable. I will say that the day after the treatment, I was sore as hell. I drank gallons of water and took some ibuprofen, which helped. But your body knows that it's been put through the wringer (in a good way), and responds accordingly. But it's a small price to pay for the superb results acheived through Ashiatsu. read more

For the past 10 years I have suffered from upper back and neck problems. The cause of these problems have been a combination of multiple car accidents and stress. Over the past 10 years I have been to a variety of doctors, therapist, acupuncturist, and physical therapist. All of these have helped, but never completely gotten rid of the problem. First of all she is a great Ashiatsu therapist. It hurts, but she has broken up a lot of the scar tissue in my back and neck. My favorite thing about Cathy is every time I go in there she says something life altering. She radiates love and acceptance. And she has challenged me to let go of so much baggage to become a more whole less painful person. I honestly haven't felt so much peace in years. And my back/neck is 90% better. Amazing feet!!! A good friend of mine pointed me in Cathy's direction for some chronic back pain I've suffered for the last decade or so. It changed my outlook on life! No longer do I have a headache every day. All the knots locking up my shoulders and back are receding and I feel more open. I've tried other massage before and didn't continue because I felt like no progress was being achieved, but Ashiatsu has really made a difference. It not only relieves back pain but aligns all of your senses and body functions. The nerves that travel up your spine control every aspect of your being and if they're out of whack, well, then so are you. It can be intimidating I'm sure for someone who's used to relaxation massage and\or doesn't have a high tolerance for pain, but Cathy can adjust her level of intensity to your comfort level (I recommend just going for it!). The atmosphere is calming and Cathy is very nice and patient. The office is pleasant and clean. There's even good art on the walls, which seems to be rare in Austin for some reason. It has taken me awhile to write this review. I started a few times and actually was "tongue-tied" because I wanted to say so many good things about my experiences with Cathy. First off I should say that if I could have 3 wishes one of them would be to send everyone who has any type of physical pain to be sent directly to Austin Ashiatsu and begin the journey back to better health. I know a lot about pain. I had a pretty bad ruptured disk in my lower back that put pressure on my sciatic nerve. I've had a steroid shot into the disk and then surgery about 7 months later to remove the disk material resting on the nerve. I still have a lot of pain and numbness in my right foot and leg but after a series of visits with Cathy I have begun to see a lot of relief. After my first visit, I was amazed when I got out of my car for the first time in over a year without being in pain while doing it. The studio is a cool space that has a kind of zen-loft vibe and is hip and unisex. Cathy is one of those rare individuals that puts you at ease right off the bat and she is truly sensitive and she listens to what you have to say and then gets down to work. I say work because as you are laying there on the table she really is working on your muscles. One of the first things I thought - besides AHHHHHH!! - after my first visit was that she must be one of the most in-shape persons I've ever met because of having to do what she does all day long. And, I love what she does, I love it when she puts pressure on my muscles and loosens up the congestion and tension. Yeah, sometimes it's a good bit of pressure but I know that it's what I need to loosen up. I could gush on and on but the main thing I want to get across is that Cathy is effective. She is compassionate and really cares about helping each person get to the best health possible. She always makes sure to tell me "pound the water" when I leave. I'm not good about pounding water so I listen and drink as much as I can. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment with Cathy. I promise you that you won't be disappointed and you won't feel like you wasted your time or money. I had my first Ashiatsu treatment yesterday. If you haven't ever had one before I highly recommend it. I had Andrea and of course they can create whatever kind of pressure you want. I opted for pretty deep because being a massage therapist myself; I definitely needed it. It was just splendid. The studio itself is clean and eclectic and the table I was on was nice and cozy. I am unsure of the essential oils that were used on me--I just know it smelled really good and allowed me to really relax. I treated myself to a 90 minute treatment but they have 60 minutes as well. Every once in a while I try out another studio and promptly after feel like I've cheated on the podiatric prowess promoted by Austin Ashiatsu. When I then return to have my work done there, I am quickly reminded of the power and precision promulgated by their therapists. I get back and neck tightness from spending too many hours at a computer. If I let it go unaddressed, it becomes a problem. While I've had great results in general w/ either chiropractic adjustments or massage, after my first treatment at Austin Ashiatsu, I immediately booked another 90 minute session. It's that good. In general, I like a deep tissue massage, and the technique at Austin Ashiatsu is hands down a better approach. I felt great immediately after my first session. However, a week later I was amazed to find that I had relief in low-level chronic discomfort areas. The treatment really opens things up, realigns things and facilitates healing. Tension and back pain are a constant source of irritation in my otherwise healthy life. I've tried many massage therapists at many locations in the past, but none of them were of much use.. That's changed since I started going to Austin Ashiatsu. Unlike traditional massage, Austin Ashiatsu is able to apply as much or as little pressure as needed, and exactly where needed. This place gives foot massage a whole new meaning! This was my first ashiatsu massage and my first cupping as well - I have to say, I may never go back. Sarah was absolutely amazing. She was in tune with what I needed, and the broader but firm strokes offered surprising relief to my tense neck, shoulder and back. I'll admit that it took me a minute to get fully settled in as I wondered how she was using all four limbs at once. But alas, I gave in to what was one of the top 3 massages I've ever had and happily so. I did the 90 minute as I'm usually extra work and I recommend adding on either the cupping or acupuncture! I thought years cupping was a hoax but I can tell you that it 100% makes a difference with releasing your tensed up muscles. I don't think I can ever go without it again. I visited austin Ashiatsu after a Yelp search and I am so glad I found this place. I have had many massages - everything from Thai, deep tissue, Swedish, Chinese, hot stone, etc at various ends of the spa spectrum. Without a doubt this was the most beneficial massage I have received. I carry all of my tension in my neck, shoulders and upper back & often leave massages feeling relaxed but not truly helped. After my massage today I can honestly say the tension is gone & I feel significantly better. If you are looking to relieve your tension I highly recommend a therapeutic massage at Ashiatsu. I am not sure I will seek out anywhere else moving forward bc I feel that much better. I should note, I think this is the first review I've ever written - if you need to destress, book an apt. Spectacular massage by Sarah. Just the right amount of intensity allowing release of some very difficult spots. The seated technique where the therapist uses their hands and feet at the same time is wonderful. Lots of hydration after the session left me feeling fantastic!
