Open Mic Night is on Wednesdays and they have bands on weekends. Sometimes the weekdays vary on what concerts/music styles that will be played. They serve food, beer, wine, coffee, etc. But no liquor, so take your shots before you come. ;) Some nights they have cover charges and some nights you have to buy tickets (and they do sell out because it is small). Inside…read morethe shell of an old department store in historic Rockwood, Tennessee I found a place where I could experience some of the finest Americana music in the U.S. On a recent night I enjoyed watching and listening to a solo artist in the style of Johnny Cash, a nice duo and several fantastic bluegrass bands. There was plenty of seating and for a mere $5 entry fee, I was able to get a great seat in front of the stage even though I showed up as the event started. A concession stand kept me full on soda, coffee, popcorn and hot dogs. The show seems to be run by a local radio station (WYHM 580 AM) and appears to only invite artists who play bluegrass and other Americana (but mostly bluegrass). The performance is recorded for the radio station, which also plays bluegrass. I can't believe someone puts all this effort into organizing something like this! I had a great time and will be stopping back soon, I hope. By the way, a block away is the Live and Let Live drugstore/soda fountain. I enjoyed some ice cream on my short walk to the Yonder Hollow venue.

There was a small patio out back if you wanted to have your drink outside. But there were no chairs. The restroom was clean and I really loved the private booths near the bar. While they're mostly known for drinks and food, they occasionally host live music. And then there's the name confusion: Bubba's Brews is now known as Boathouse at 33, but I feel like the Bubba's name is going to stick around a while for locals... as "Boathouse at 33" doesn't roll off the tongue quite the same way. Now let's get to the food severed at Bubba's, which is more like pub or bar food--wings, nachos, tacos, etc. I recommend the wings, fried catfish tacos, and nachos. All of these are great. On the weekends, Bubba's serves pit-smoked meats like brisket and grilled wings (these are different than the fried wing which are on their menu every day). The day I tried the brisket, it was just okay (it just needed to be smoked a bit more so it would be more tender). But I know briskets can be hard to perfect, so maybe it was just an off day. I am, however, eager to try the smoked wings, but it seems I keep visiting on the days they don't have them. As for the staff at Bubba's, they are all fantastic! Everyone is attentive and super nice!
