I booked my colonoscopy two months in advance and specifically at their Shoal Creek location. Doctor ended up cancelling my appt and Austin Gastro rescheduled me at Oakwood Surgery Center. I was not informed at the time that this facility was not an Austin Gastro locale...it's an ambulatory center affiliated with St. David's. (Which means different contracted insurance rates, etc.) My bills for the entire procedure are seemingly more than what I would have paid had they not canceled my original appt at Shoal Creek (Austin Gastro did confirm that their rate was less than Oakwood, but it's been trickier determining the anesthesiology and pathology fees). This is all to say: be very aware of where they're scheduling your procedure as rates can be quite variable on the patient's end. No one mentioned this to me on their end because they were simply filling a slot, but for me (and my wallet) it made a difference as to what slot I went into. read more

What Austin Gastroenterology has done to me is beyond believe: I have my doctors referral, and the insurance's approval to see one of their Gastroenterology specialists, who did a screen colonoscopy for me in 2015. However I was rejected by this office. The reason? They insisted this doctor has "seen" me for my problem. And, I should see another doctor who I have NOT seen since 2014. Despite the fact, with this doctor in 2015, it was just a regular consultation for a routine colonoscopy screen. And it was 5 years ago. The admin office lady (do not want to mention her name yet) I called and talked for about 1 hour, insisted the consultation meant this doctor "has seen" me, so they will not allow me to make an appointment with him. And, to my surprise, she asked my symptom, and offered SHE(a non-medical personnel) will talk to that doctor about my problem, and to see if he wants to see me. What kind of policy is this??? She also suggested me see any other doctor -- really strange . In addition, it has been over a month since my doctor's referral. I had to call this Austin- Gastroenterology one time after another. This admin lady too: had to call her again after several days did not see her promised email regarding our conversation. Today she told me, she "has showed" my file - by 2015 - to that doctor. Tried to file a complaint with BBB, but all of a sudden the complaints for Austin Gastro just disappeared. So I am posting it here. I needed to set up an appointment quickly for a digestive issue that had warning signs of potential cancer. I was able to set it up quickly but had to wait almost two weeks for an appointment. I paid out of pocket for the visit (very high cost for less than ten minute appointment) and felt that my visit was short and not very personal. I was suggested to get a colonoscopy (priced at almost $4,000 for a minor procedure). I called the doctors office, anesthesiology company, and procedure facility to get the cash prices for each. One week before the procedure I received a call from the procedure facility to confirm the date and time and pay for the procedure. To my surprise the cost went from near $400 to over $1,000 for the facility fee. This was a major issue as we had budgeted for the initial cost quote. This should never happen. The procedure was comfortable, however, I waited a long time over my scheduled time. I was relieved to find out I did not have cancer, but their "best guess" was maybe Chrons disease. I was supposed to be contacted to set up a follow up call/appointment to discuss the results and path forward, which did not happen. I had to call to get the results, which an assistant called about and gave me over the phone, which also conflicted with the doctors results and recommendations. I had to call and set up an appointment (again very expensive in addition to the $4,000 dollars I had already paid which I should have received the results for) to find out the true results and path forward. I was then given two prescriptions to take. When I arrived at the pharmacy I was shocked to find out the cost was over $900 dollars for three months and may have to take them longer than 3 months. I had to schedule another appointment (again more money) to find a more economic option for medications. The alternative was prednisone for over three months. There are serious side effects with the use prednisone and even more so with long term use. I was still recommended to take one of the medications that still amounted to a total of $400 for three months. The doctor did not even call to see if that option was feasible or not. After all that I have been through with Austin Gastro I am left with the impression that they do not focus on personal individualized care and are more focused numbers and pushing their contacted expensive medications. I am currently left with no viable options to treat what may be Chrons and am out almost $5000 dollars just to find out a "best guess" of a diagnosis. read more

Short story: Cannot speak to any physicians other than Dr. Alcocer and his office, but the care I received was extremely poor and his staff and office were impossible to communicate with (a necessity due to his repeated errors). The front desk and other miscellaneous staff were generally nice and competent however. Long story: I was seen by Dr. Alcocer for extremely elevated liver enzymes and severe fatigue. Dr. Alcocer was dismissive and attempted to diagnose me with simple fatty liver, which did nothing to explain my AST/ALT levels which had gone from 5x the upper limit of normal to 15-20 times the upper normal limits over a few weeks. He ordered imaging that made no sense after which his nurse told me, over a portal message with no follow up that I had "very severe liver damage" and stage 3 fibrosis. This would be pretty remarkable for an otherwise reasonably healthy 27 year old, but they seemed unconcerned: apparently it didn't even merit a phone call or any other information. After fighting for a biopsy, it took an additional 3+ weeks to schedule because he messed up the orders, then didn't order required blood work, then didn't order the correct blood work (his office required 5-10+ phone calls and messages per error to get each corrected). One giant needle to the liver later and it turns out I do not have stage 3 fibrosis and probably was exposed to a toxin or a virus that cause the massive liver inflammation. We'll never know because the biopsy was ordered 3 months after it started. Didn't stop him from referring me to a clinical trial though: I hope the referral fee he likely got from that was worth it! read more

This has nothing to do with my doc here @ AG, but rather with one of his office staff, so that's why I'm not mentioning his name. The employee involved, her name is Sarah (sorry, didn't get her last). She is less than useless, in my opinion. I had some bloodwork drawn a few days previously, and last night (1/30/19) I received a call at 5:14pm, which I missed. When I looked, the phone registered it as coming from Bastrop which, even had I gotten to it, I wouldn't have picked up because I know no one in Bastrop. But, the message left said it was Sarah from my doctor's office and she wanted to "chat with me about my test results". Now the number LEFT was for my doctor's office, so I called back. Or tried at any rate. Turns out that the office closed at 5:00pm. There was no way to get through the switchboard to even leave a message. I tried a few times, even called the Bastrop number. Nothing. Now, I've been sick over three years, with most of the times my test results being negative. So, when someone calls me and leaves a message about my bloodwork and I can't get hold of them or even leave a message, I panic. So basically, my sleep last night was a joke. I left a message @8:32am this morning detailing the problem, and waiting for her to call back. @11:55-56am she called back (first time had connection problems). I let her speak first, and she told me what the problem was, and that I needed to have more bloodwork done. Once we got the "business" out of the way, I brought up the problem with what happened the night before. I didn't use profanity, although my voice level kept getting louder because she kept trying to talk over me, instead of trying to listen to my concerns. I even told her to have someone make it so a message could be left, or at least tell me if I wasn't able to leave a message because I'd done something wrong. (At one point in the conversation she said I could have left a message.) Basically, she really didn't seem to care, and was just trying to get me off the phone, and even the apology, coming at the end, sounded trite. She didn't really care about my feelings, or what she had put me through. And trust me, her lack of professionalism, and her attitude, along with the fact that I'm schizoaffective, put me through the ringer. Maybe it's nothing for most people, but when you've had an undiagnosable illness for over 3 years, and you suffer from mental illness as well, trust me, it's a big deal. And it should have been to her, since she IS employed in the medical field, and has access, I presume, to my records. I never Yelp. Very, very rarely. The ONLY reason that I am today is that my experience was so drastically different than the other reviews on here. I was referred to Austin Gastro by my OBGYN (it's funny how things can be linked! But I digress...) The worst part of my experience there was getting an appointment. I first filled out the appointment request online, but never heard back from anyone. That was a little frustrating, but I ended up calling and they got me in within a week. Fantastic! I requested the first available appointment - and it ended up being with Dr Kumar Pradeep. He ended up being incredible! I had an incredibly short wait time in the waiting room (5 or 10 minutes), was taken to the back by the nurse & had vitals taken, then his PA came in and met with me. She took more information and discussed my symptoms. Then, she relayed that information to the Doctor - and he came in fully up-to-date and informed on my condition. He spent a long time talking with me about my concerns and getting a plan together to get me diagnosed and taken care of. He didn't push a ton of unnecessary medicine on me - rather, he listened to what I thought might be the problem and talked through it with me. I was a little nervous (don't judge me!) when I heard his name, solely because nothing drives me more crazy and makes me feel invisible than going to a doctor that has a language barrier & not being able to understand him or vice versa. He had a 100% American accent. I felt like a jerk for even worrying about it. He and his PA spent so much time with me and really made me feel heard! I spent probably a solid hour with them both, put together. Great experience!! read more

This review is for Dr. Emmett, and my completely weird experience. Due to some odd lab results from another doctor, twas time for a gastro. I chose Dr. Emmett based on good reviews on another site (I'll be honest, I only looked at the number of stars, not what they were actually for, so shame on me), and the fact that he had an opening the next day. These lab results had a great chance of meaning absolutely nothing bad and a teensy tinsy chance of meaning something completely horrible. Starts with a C, ends with an R, has "ance" in the middle. So, you know, let's rule out that horrible thing. So talking with the doc. He says yeah, probably nothing, but let's rule out cancer, then says, "so what about celiac?" Nope, not an issue for me. Plus, really more interested in this whole cancer thing. "Yeah, you don't really have any celiac symptoms...but we should get you tested." (Verbatim quote.) I think I already was tested for celiac few years back. Plus, you know, cancer. "Yeah, let's order that celiac test." Do not care, do not want. Want CT scan. Not blood test for celiac. So we go round a little, til I realize: if I want the CT scan, I will have to get the celiac test. FINE. Weird. But whatevs. Few days later: yeah, celiac test is negative. Few more days later: no cancer (most excellent, happy dance follows), although there is...something...of note to report which is told to me in the least helpful way possible (presumably thanks to the doc telling his assistant exactly nothing that will provide me with either context or meaningful explanation) so that I end up having to look up what it means on the intergoogle. Which is, of course, what you go to a doctor for. Oh, wait... I will say, however, that the office set-up is very efficient and the people are very nice, on the phone and in person. And if you want to get tested for celiac, man, they will absolutely hook you up. read more

Horrible company to get an appointment. It takes 20-30 mins to before they answer the phone and then they just complain their computers are so slow they keep you waiting for ages. The sting is they tell you that they only can book for a few doctors and they have you repeat the process at another office. read more

The entire staff at Austin Gastroenterology are top notch! Dr. Emmett is a very personable, empathetic doctor. During my initial consultation, I expressed my fear of sedation, and he was very understanding and did a great job addressing my concerns, and making me feel relaxed and comfortable. On the day of my colonoscopy, the nurses and staff were very patient, explaining everything that would happen before beginning. The anesthetist was was extremely attentive and present in the moment. His demeanor and vibes were exactly what you would want from the person who is about to sedate you - competent, alert and attentive. Before I knew it, I was awake and the procedure was complete. Without question, Dr. Emmett will be my Gastroenterologist for life! read more

First of all the staff gave me the wrong address to their office, I ran around and gave up and asked one of staff to call them. They gave me the right address. Finally... The medical assistant corrected the address of Walgreens that I go all the time. Then I went to scheduler to make an appointment. This scheduler used the wrong address again for Walgreens to be refilled. NO, NO I kept telling her to use 120 W. Slaughter for any refills. She corrected it in front of me. I thought she did but it apparently did not because Walgreens informed me that my RX is ready in different address this morning. I never go there. I lost my temper and called them again to correct it for the fourth time. The scheduler told me that she had already changed it to the proper address. Oh my gosh not again. Good enough Different Walgreens informed me that my Rx is ready this afternoon. My gosh NOT AGAIN. Dr Reddy and her staff are NOT reliable. Period. read more

If you are a first-time gastroenterology patient, by all means: find a different practice! In May 2010, suffering from anemia, I was referred by my family doctor to Austin Gastroenterology, because he suspected possible colon cancer. I was assigned Dr. Shad Debaghi, who turned out to have the bedside manner of Attilla the Hun: arrogant, aggressive, unsympathetic. Sure enough, the colonoscopy revealed I had a cancerous tumor. As I came out of the anesthesia, Dr. Debaghi didn't even bother to be present to inform me I had cancer -- he did it by phone, as I groggily tried to follow along. (I'm not even particularly impressed that Dr. Debaghi found my cancer -- the tumor was 2.5 cm; a trained monkey would have seen it on a colonoscopy, and would have likely been more friendly.) Fast forward to today. Having had a colon resection and gone through chemo, at my first three-month check-in I was informed that my CEA blood test indicated a possible recurrence, and my oncologist told me I needed to get a colonoscopy in order to check it. So, Wednesday morning, 48 hours ago, I began the process of just trying to get an office visit scheduled, since that is required prior to any procedure. I was given a scheduler's voice mail, and the scheduler's direct line. When, after repeated messages, nobody had called me back, I went down to their office at 4:00 Wednesday afternoon. The front-desk person personally walked my file back to their triage/scheduling department, with a note indicating that this coloonoscopy was on an oncologist's referral. Here it is Friday morning, 48 hours into trying to just schedule an appointment, and no response. Two hours ago I tried to contact an office manager. Voice mail. No call-back. I hope I don't die before I hear back from them. Literally. read more

I've got a love/hate relationship with Austin Gastroenterology -- my first upper gi back in 2003 (I think?) was an utter nightmare and prompted me to stay away for years (to my detriment), but subsequent visits have been nice enough, to the point I kind of look forward to my regular visits. After that first procedure, I've had nothing but very positive experiences here, mixed in with the long waits that everyone else talks about. I had a diagnosis and recommended course of treatment that would have been rather life-altering in a hugely negative way, but after much research, I found a doctor in the same office who specialized in a new treatment that saved me from having radical surgery, radiation and chemo and months of recovery. It would have been very nice for everyone there to be on the same page, especially with new technology and new breakthroughs. Not all of the doctors here have good bedside manners, and a couple can be quite brusk, but I take the good with the bad -- I'm alive, and in moderate good health, because they know what they're doing. Billing can be quite confusing, but I blame this more on insurance than GA. GA has been quite accommodating in paying things off, and assisting me when it comes to the invariable battles with my insurance company. And they explain the charges when you go in and get things scheduled. Where this place rocks is the entire nursing staff upstairs -- from the ones bring me to the back and get me situated, to the ones who put the iv's in, to the ones who wheel me in back and slip me the great knock-out drugs. They put me at ease, they explain what's going on and what will happen, we laugh, we joke, and because I'm a frequent flyer here, I try to put them as much at ease as they do me. They really are angels and I love them to pieces. Without these warriors on the front lines, I would have probably gone elsewhere after the couple bad experiences. I'd probably think differently if I only had a couple visits here, but I think I'm pushing 10 visits now (if not more -- I've lost track), so I understand the doctors and their assistants, and as much as I want to slag off on what's gone on before, I really can't, because I can honestly say they saved my life -- Dr. Gagneja specifically, and Dr. Hsu with the follow-ups. Are they perfect? No. There have been a couple slips and a couple scares, but they've been resolved, and for the most part the staff has been very helpful in follow-ups, answering questions, and anything else I've needed. I still can't say enough good things about the nursing staff. They really are why I keep coming back. Well, that, and I've got long-term issues that require regular visits. And Drs. Gagneja and Hsu have proven their value and worth to me. If it hadn't been for those couple bad experiences, I'd have given 5 stars. This was almost a 3-star review, but the nursing staff really did earn them a 4th star. If I could give them a full 5 just for the nurses alone, I would. I hope GA keeps these men and women on staff for years to come, because seriously, after all the visits I've had, these folks are your saving grace and why I keep coming back year after year. read more

My experience with Austin Gastroenterology, and Dr. Hsu, has been quite good. He's always been willing to explain the situation to my satisfaction and I haven't had any problem with asking questions or getting answers. He's taken very good care of me for the last several years. I've also had good experience with the office staff. For over five years, I had nothing but excellent service. Dr. Hsu's nurses have been great for me, though his current nurse did drop the ball recently. She was supposed to call me about something, but didn't. I waited a few weeks, then called her. She called me back immediately and had the information I needed. This has been my only negative experience with the office. read more

Very frustrated that Austin Gastro doesn't accept Blue Cross HMO insurance, which most all other providers do accept. I had to pay them almost $1000 for a necessary procedure; I never would have chosen them, but they were in the operating room at the request of other care providers, all of whom accepted my insurance. So I'm out $1000 only because Austin Gastro apparently hates people who are self-employed. read more

Couple of things. Concerning the part about the health insurance/Dr's office contact debacle, I found out it was definitely the health insurance and not the Dr's office staff that was at fault here. So...I'll keep the experience here for reference. Just went here a few days ago for my first visit, a consultation to talk over whether I need a colonoscopy or not (*sigh* Yeah, I do. AND an endoscopy. Oh, joy.). The place was easy to find, and the front desk staff were nice and friendly. After a short wait, I was put in a room by a nurse who did all the usual blood pressure and weight things, then said a medical assistant would be in soon to ask a few more questions, then Dr. Kumar would see me. I barely had time to read a page or two of the book I brought 'til the medical assistant was there. She was also friendly and efficient, showing concern for me and the symptoms I was having as she was asking questions. I told her everything I could remember and read off some notes and she paid close attention. Nothing like having medical staff pay attention to you! That's awesome! Dr. Kumar did as well ~ he was also very friendly and amenable and he just felt good to be around, like he really knew what he was doing and was listening. The only reason they didn't get five stars is because I did feel like Dr. Kumar was a bit hurried (I wish there was a 4 1/2 star option ~ that would be more accurate maybe), but maybe he'd had an emergency that day that put him behind and he didn't want to make his other patients wait. And hey, he hit all the bases and answered all my questions, even if some of them were asked as I followed him out the door (I kept coming up with more). But I feel like if I had had still more questions, he would have stayed as long as it took to answer them all. I haven't had the procedures yet, but when I do, I'll come back and update my review. If it goes like Dr. Kumar told me it will, that I won't remember a thing about it, they'll get five stars then! LOL! read more

Austin Gastroenterology doesn't answer phones. They have an annoying robocenter that does not have an option to talk to a human being. All they do is take messages so they can call you back when they feel like it. Twice now I have had a non-emergency, but relatively urgent, need to talk to a nurse and could not even reach one live person. I think I'm about done with Austin Gastroenterology. I'll find a different group. read more

I've provided a separate review for Dr Poreddy. As for Austin Gastroenterology here is my feedback... Pro: - Staff in Round Rock Wyoming springs is friendly - Wait time (atleast for Dr Poreddy) is fairly quick Cons: - They need to do better in following up on filtering out providers that are causing negative customer experience. If you are a new patient and dont request a specific provider then they will auto assign you a provider regardless if the provider has concerning negative customer feedback. - Based on Dr Poreddy AG (Austin Gastroenterology) does not offer The Water Immersion Technique. This technique provides better polyp detection (I'm not a doctor so if this incorrect please reach out to me so I can edit my review) - Transitioning to other AG provide has been a difficult experience as I have not had a call back from office manager on my request to change and they do not provide much guidance on aligning my needs to the right doctor. Seems like they leave it to the responsibility of the patient to screen AG providers. After doing my own due diligence here are my top AG providers based on online overal customer feedback. So thankful that I had my bad experience after I was referred - but before I let AG or Dr. Reddy get involved with my care or involved with any billing issues. The office staff was rude, uninformed, and yet incredibly confident that I needed schedule a consultation before I scheduled the procedure my primary care physician referred me for. It doesn't really reflect well on my primary care physician that they referred me here. read more

The nurses were great- I was disappointed that the doctor couldn't take 5 minutes to talk to my husband once he woke up- I could hear him still talking to other patients. I give the nurses a 5 for bedside manner- the doctor a 3 for bedside manner:( read more

Wow, these guys pretty much restored my faith in our broken medical system. From the appointment, to signing in, then to seeing Dr. Havemann I was highly impressed. His communication and expertise are excellent and the office staff is extremely friendly and thorough. I am writing this review specifically to address Dr. Kumar, my gastro for the past two years. Dr. Kumar is great at the scopes, but sucks with the bedside manner. And frankly, I think he is in denial about what causes GERD, Microscopic Colitis, and probably other diseases of the GI tract. I now have a form of colitis which was probably caused by the PPIs he prescribed me for GERD. It's right on the Mayo Clinic's website, so why does he deny it caused this problem for me, a problem I've never had in my life? If you have GERD, work on your diet and your food allergies. Keep a food diary. I eliminated gluten and dairy and no longer have GERD after 10 years. It is a miracle. I suffered for years wondering what was wrong with my stomach. Supposedly he tested me for celiac but I never received a copy of that biopsy report. Who knows, maybe I do have celiac? It doesn't matter now, because I'm never touching gluten again. Why didn't Kumar think that diet could be causing my reflux? Seems so simple, yet these GIs are in extreme denial about how to diagnose gluten sensitivity and food allergies. The gut is how you process food. It's integral to what is going on in there. I am dismayed by my new diagnosis and its relationship to the PPIs I was prescribed for GERD. Today I am in extreme pain due to this condition, and they did not return my call today. I'm at my wit's end with these people. read more

The competence of the medical staff is acceptable. However, there is a systematic problem with billing and insurance practices. You simply get incomplete and inaccurate information. As a patient you have no clue what your costs will be. Lastly, the billing department made claims that were simply false. I won't do business with any person or organization I don't trust. Issues this pervasive are almost always a leadership problem. Look elsewhere. read more

Avoid Dr. Benjamin Havemann. He actually says POO instead of bowel movement, BM or defecation. He diagnosis are not written in medical terms but says things like "all over the map". He is rude, condescending, has infantile terminology, has no time to listen, said he knew me from somewhere, screamed LISTEN TO ME, and also said I should get a second opinion. He basically wanted my copay and had only 15 minutes and no time to waste on a Mexican woman with a cyclic bloating issue. Sadly I was referred to this intimidating doctor by ER. Based off of these reviews and my own experience, I think they're only interested in doing costly procedures, where in my case, may have been unnecessary. Had I known what I know now and had I not been desperate to stop using the rest room 4-7 times a day everyday for 5 months, I didn't think twice about doing my home work and went to the place austin regional referred me to. Losing a patient after 8 years! I have been a patient of Dr Stassen/ Jessica Langsten for over 8 years. Have NEVER missed an appointment, always early to my appointment. I do not complain when I am sitting in the waiting room for over 15 mins waiting to see Jessica; because she is GREAT! I had car issues this morning and called to let them know and I also logged into my patient portal to let them know I need to reschedule. I received a call from the appointment desk stating in order to reschedule my appointment I would have to pay a $25 no show fee. I told her I was not paying it. She said she would get with her manager to see if it could be waived. I received a call back in about 10 minutes saying IT WILL NOT BE WAIVED. I said so you mean to tell me you are willing to lose a patient after 8 years for a $25 fee? She said it is policy. I say good bye. I will find another Gastro doctor. I am going to start charging a $25 late fee when I am not seen on time at the doctors office! HA HA, what a stupid policy. I can understand if it was someone that consistently did not show up, but I called and sent an email. Sorry - Good bye Austin GASTRO! First of all, even if the appointment staff keeps saying see the PA of your doctor , wait to see your doctor . I was pushed to see his PA. If you have a rare disease probably go somewhere else. I know I will next time. I spoke with my doctor, Dr Ellis, all of a combined 5 minutes before and after the procedure. I learned my lesson And will go to someone else. read more

This business needs help with compassion and remember why they are doctors. These offices are money hungry and refuse to provide treatment unless you pay up front. I had been scheduled for a colonoscopy on Sept. 2nd. I get a call today, 08/29/2014, from their scheduling office telling me that I needed to pay up front for the procedure and if I did not have the 1/3 of my 80/20 insurance portion, then they would have to reschedule it until I have the money. One word that comes to mind "Extortion". I could not believe the conversation I was having with this office. They 1st told me that since my procedure was scheduled for September, the new insurance calender year, then I would have to pay the $500.00 yearly insurance deductible. I called my insurance and was told that the calender year was from January to December. I called them out on that. That is when they tell me that I needed to pay the amount up front before the procedure and before billing the insurance. Another office on 38th street refuse to see me because I did not have the $40.00 co-pay, granted that I was in pain and I was referred to them by my primary care physician. It is a shame that a business like this exists. No person should have to be refused medical treatment if they are unable to pay at the time. This office did just that. The "piss-off" attitude of the Diana in the scheduling/insurance office and the rudeness of the front desk clerk who checked me out were the reasons I gave it one star. If I could give zero I would. I moved from Houston to bastrop so I thought switching to Austin gastro doctor would make my life easier. Not at all! I was first seen in the St.davids emergency room by one of the Austin gastro doctors because of a condition I have. I booked a follow up appointment with the soonest available doctor and it was a 2 month wait. Drive the hour to the doctors office to sit in the exam room for 2 minutes have the doctor walk in say we are doing all these tests and left. I was livid but I got the tests done after having to call from the CPL because the doctor forgot to actually order some of the tests! A few days later I got results and needed more tests I went in got more tests done that was over a week ago! I have called and called finally called the make an appointment number to be told the doctors notes say they have called twice to discuss my results I haven't gotten any calls the doctor is straight up lying and is with holding my results. I'll be switching back to Houston gastro and driving 3 hours for my appointments just so I can actually get results and care! Extremely disappointed in their unwillingness to work with patients. Initially my doctor told me I needed an endoscopy before she could develop a treatment plan. I live on a very limited budget, and the test will cost over $300 with my insurance. So I put it off and time got away. I called to reschedule the procedure and was told I would have to make another appointment before I could have the procedure! Speciality doctor appointments cost $45! I asked if that was necessary, because the doctor had told me "she could not do anything for me until I had the procedure!" The doctor and staff were INSISTENT that I make the appointment! I explained about my very limited funds, but I was actually told: rules are rules and we have to follow them! I asked the scheduler to check with her boss, she did--again I was told I must spend $45 before I could schedule the procedure. TALK ABOUT A RIPOFF! I saw Dr. Becker today. Don't go to this practice and especially don't see him. He said the pharmaceutical world makes tons of drugs for "constipated chicks like me" aka someone with IBS. The best quote? The drugs are so that "constipated chicks like me" can "have 1 turd a day and be happy." Does this sound like a medical professional? How about this? "I'm sorry I don't have the answers you want, Sydney." Haha! Because who wouldnt want to be called a constipated chick on their lunch break and pay $50 to have a dr say the word "turd" a foot away from their face? As I just had a procedure there I would say the care was excellent. They are friendly, fast and efficient. They also have an all RN staff which is something that I like as I am an RN also. Having all RN's will result in fewer mistakes. They aim to keep you as comfortable as possible without feeling rushed. They take a lot of safety precautions and are sure to walk you to your car afterwards and slowly. So in short, they are very good and credit to my doctor-Dr. Srygley. read more

After multiple failed attempts with other Gastroenterologist I found Austin Gastroenterology on this same platform. Found a bunch of good review directed toward Dr. Kumar, so went ahead and made an appointment. I started with some simpler medications and moved on to some others as the simpler once only did so much. This approach worked for me but may not work for everyone. Unlike other Doctors visited in the past, Dr. Kumar does not quickly jump to say, hey, you need an endoscopy or any form of surgery. I actually pushed for both the upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy I did with him. I simply wanted to make sure there were no missing pieces. I've had significant improvement ever since my first appointment with Dr. Kumar. read more

Firstly, these guys make you wait over an hour to be seen. Secondly, Dr Utts will be spend two seconds talking to you and then decide you need a colonoscopy and not even talk you through the procedure. After this, he sent me out his office to schedule an appt and disappeared. I guess the appointment was over, although he didn't really say? The scheduler told me they wouldn't accept my insurance next year (the only time they could schedule an appt) and said it would therefore cost me something ridiculous. At this stage, I wasn't even aware of what you had to do for a colonoscopy as I hadn't been briefed. Incensed by all of this I spoke to his PA who told me that the colonoscopy was the only option as my issue is recurring and starting telling me how Dr Utts lack of attentiveness was because she deals with that side of things... Yeah, if you say so... Anyway, I decided to make an appt with ADC even though it would take some time to be seen. Going up north to ADC's gastro clinic instead was the best thing I ever did. They see you (fairly) promptly, take their time and actually do their best to ensure they find the problem without having to do any invasive procedures. I was actually given an exam (i won't go into too detail on that!) rather than told to have a colonoscopy and they even diagnosed me. Austin Gastro were more like, "It might be this...We can take all your money and give you a colonoscopy to find out for sure rather than just examine you now so we have a better idea." In fact, my ADC doctor even told me that if the things she's prescribed me don't work, the next step would be a less invasive version of a colonoscopy that just looks around a portion of the stomach because of my age and family history. It's great to have someone with an assuring, calm bedside manner see you. It's also great to be given time to explain your problem and have someone talk through it with you and try to get to the route of the problem. You'll get none of this at Austin Gastro. I must add that the receptionists are nice, polite and helpful at Austin Gastro. It's a shame everything else isn't on par. read more

Do not, I repeat: do not come here for a colonoscopy. I have had two before - I'm no first timer. Prep instructions were not sufficient. Once I arrived with my concerns, the women at the front desk were callous, offensive, and downright unprofessional. Once brought back for my procedure, I was given a stained blanket and shoved so hard for an IV that I have massive bruising. I was then told that they do 45 - 60 PROCEDURES A DAY. If you want to be treated like a person and not a sheep, do NOT come here. If I hadn't already done the prep, I would have left. I almost did, but my ride home convinced me to stay.
