First of all, I appreciate that this is a non-profit organization benefitting those in the Austin area that have suffered a disaster. It is a large store and well-organized. They had a lot of items in clothing, furniture and kitchen goods. Not as much in toys. I found quite a few items. They don't seem to do standard pricing like your large chain thrift stores. They also seem to know their name brands and mark up accordingly (but not excessively). It is a little bit of a trek from where I live, but worth the trip. read more

I'm not sure if they've got new employees, so my review isn't about all employees because I've been here a few times and never had any issues until today. For more than half of my time in the store I continuously had multiple workers staring me down, and then two just following me around multiple times which gives me the feeling that I'm being looked at like I'm going to steal. This normally wouldn't bother me because I'm not a thief but it bothers me because I've given zero reason for anyone to be looking at me or following me like this. It creates a nasty narrative, and a hostile environment. Until you've been given a reason to need to follow someone, don't... I'm an indecisive person, but I'm also a gay male in a thrift store playing gospel music, so it's bad enough I already feel like I'm not wanted here but to follow me around and look at me while talking to co workers multiple times doesn't put a good feeling on a customer. And there's a chance that maybe this wasn't the case but I'd be an easy target. There's not a huge selection of men's clothes or shoes and if there is it's mixed up with the women's so I look in ever aisle and I feel like I got stares because I was in the women's aisles but there was a plethora of women's things in the men's aisle so maybe they just need to reorganize? The prices on some things seems incredibly capitalist, I see a whole couch for $19.99 which is a great price, but then I'm looking at a pair of shoes for $24.... Where's the relief in that LOL I have to admit they have some pretty good items, but the prices seem greedy. I don't know how much of the proceeds go to disaster relief but if it's not 100% then it seems pretty disturbing, prices are getting to be like Goodwills and there's no good will in that ‍ All in all, this truly is a great store but this was not a good experience for me so I may seek another store. read more

We tried this store for the first time today!! Loved it. Some prices are a little wonky but some are very good. For example I got a new Teflon covered whisk for 50 cents, measuring spoons for 50 cents and a beautiful crystal container for $4.99. They have a ton of furniture, and not just old particle board stuff, nice pieces. The store is clean and well laid out. They also do two color tag discounts every week. One at 50% off and one at 75% off. They also have higher end stuff in cabinets and behind the counter and some collectibles too. Highly recommended. We will be back. read more

This thrift store is great! CLEAN, large, full of stuff. I found exactly what I was looking for (thrifter's luck, I guess, but also great stocking). The music selection left a lot to be desired (it's a religious organization so the songs are all about devotion) but worth the trip if you're looking for housewares, at the very least. I did not check the pricing on clothing, but my three items were less than $7 altogether. read more

This is a very well-stocked and will merchandised thrift store location. However, this particular location will be closing down on July 8, 2023. They are moving things to the other location located at Wells branch and Mopac. As of this writing everything is 50% off. I definitely recommend the other much larger location. read more

This thrift store was amazing when it was off 51st, yet now so much farther. Change in prices as well; a bit steep on furniture'than before. I love that everyone is welcoming, yet still kinda annoyed that they allow large dogs ( any non-service dogs) inside the store. I did see a few other shoppers not as comfortable as they turn a corner and see a large dog there. Not everyone responds well to any animal ( since I know many that may be autistic or mental dialogue; is not an obvious behavior) and thrifting seems to be a passive release to socialize with other people, yet not animals ( service dogs are always expected) at any time. A thrift store is not a petco ir an outside market that its the norm. Lately, many people have lessened their shopping for having yo be exposed to any Non-Service medical dog(s) at any public venue. Even I am becoming discouraged of thrifting so uncomfortably or startled in any way. read more

Well stocked, a store with a great cause, very neat, clean, and well organized, the staff was very friendly, great location, easy access, HOWEVER the prices are over the top for a secondhand/thrift store. Went in today with my 2 granddaughters. We are always looking for clothing for the kids and kitchen goodies for me. However, right as I walked in I witnessed the gentleman behind the counter hand a couple of the nice wigs behind the counter to a young woman who was obviously suffering from cancer. She was gifted the wig and asked if she could receive a prayer. I joined in with staff from Hope as the most beautiful and uplifting prayer was said over, Amanda. It was a witness unfolding in the middle of the store. I always look for the true community non-profit shops and will say that the Hope Resale shop on 51st Street in Austin, Texas is a great place with fair prices! Great selection of everything! Nice store, particularly for furniture they had some really nice pieces at a very fair price. I saw a massive sectional and china cabinets that were already sold, so I bet those go quickly! I was able to find some name brand jeans for $7, which gave me a pep in my step! Yeah, this really is a 5* thrift store, I can't believe it. Found a great TV stand and another stand/table for my roommate's bedroom. Both pieces for around $100 total is pretty great, and the service here was even better. They worked with us to hold our items while we sorted out getting a truck, which was a whole endeavor in itself. I'll definitely have to pop back into this thrift store when I'm in the area and pick up some other items. read more

This thrift store is way better than the bigger chain stores. The pricing is reasonable and they have items that range from clothes, household goods, furniture, movies and books. The staff is really friendly but, this is a Christian store so, please be prepared to hear the accompanying music. The store is clean, the items are gently used and they have plenty of parking. It is also easy to get in and out of the parking lot even though it is at a busy intersection. The kitchen and household section was well stocked for people looking for bowls, dishes, etc. Personally I like to purchase these items from a thrift store in case I am going to a house party and I don't want to take a platter that I care a lot about and may not receive back. The tube tv and VCR selection made me a giggle a bit. If you are looking for non-wholesome books or movies you will not find them here; they are all somewhat religious based. I purchased two glasses that were vintage and I had seen them at the Airbnb we stayed at on vacation. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw them on the shelf and they were only $1.25/each. I also purchased some cookbooks that in the store would carry a price tag of around $30.00/each. I paid $9.00 for two so, that is a win in my book! It's definitely worth a stop in to browse even if you aren't in the market for anything. read more

It is a yearly tradition that I visit as many thrift stores as I can on Labor Day, when most items are 50% off! I knew nothing about this store prior-- I just happened to stumble upon it. So yes, everything was half off here. I bought a beautiful chaise, a dining room table and chairs, and artwork all for less than $100! Amazing. The staff were all friendly and excited to greet us as we piled in the door. If you're an avid thrifter, this place is definitely worth stopping at for great finds. read more

Welcome the new kid on the block! This thrift store is nice and clean and wholesome. I would recommend it as a stop for inoffensive clothes and for furniture, no junk for sale here. The pricing I saw was appropriate, I didn't get over into the boutique area this trip. There's generally a range of prices for an item, with nicer/more on-trend items priced a little higher. Makes sense to me! They also had nice dishes, not much in the way of (non-child) books and art. Big girls: for reasons I don't pretend to understand, there are two separate pockets of women's plus-size blouses. Gotta find 'em all! Also, said blouses are not as picked-over as at Savers or Goodwill. Worth a look. Know before you go: this is a faith-based group. Along with the cool things like friendly cashiers and having free bottles of water available for those who come in parched, this means you will also find free bibles, lots of Christian T-shirts (Jesus / Saves / Bro was probably the gem of the collection) and an inspirational Christian music station playing. read more

I came here last week looking for furniture for my new apartment. Mary told me to come back on Saturday because they were having a back-to-school sale where everything would be half off. My roommate and I drove over this morning for the sale. We got a couch, a rug, two bar stools, a TV stand, and a brand new desk for $100! We asked if there was any way we could get the furniture delivered today, and it was at our door in less than 45 minutes (delivery was a $40 fee). Every single person I've met at this thrift store is so friendly and helpful. The volunteers that delivered the furniture were as kind as they could be. The furniture itself is SUPER nice, and I am just overjoyed that we furnished our whole living room for only a hundred bucks. I will come back here time and time again!!! read more

Today I experienced the Hope store that was and now is again my favorite thrift store. A few months ago, i posted a horrible experience I had at hope. As i mentioned in my initial post, we have shopped at this store for years and never had an issue until the officer/security guard, who took it upon herself, followed my family and I around the store as if we were untrustworthy. As a result, we have stayed away for a few months until today. We want back today because of the manager, Rita, sincere and caring response to our concern. It was great being back into one of my favorite thrift stores. I had a chance to meet briefly with the store manager and we then went to town. Thanks, Rita for caring about your customer's experiences in your store and making the necessary adjustments to ensure that all customers enjoy a positive experiences in the store. the store is great, and nicely organized. One of my favs in-town as far as that goes. but OH MY FN GOD... the terrible music usually drives me out of there... Christian music, the sonic scourge that keeps on taking. The saccharine sentiments and brainless drivel seems to be emanating from every corner of the store. This music is the worst of the worst on so may levels - the false sense of uplifting (seriously why can't they lay off the Sus2 and Sus4 chords? resolving is part of life), the vacuous and nauseating claims, and the childishly anecdotal lyrics makes me want to stab myself in the ears. I mean it's not hard to see how it might appeal to some lost-soul who's fully committed to twisting up their worldview and insulating themselves from life's brutal reality but Christ-On-Cornflake... do you have to subject everyone to this torture? read more

Honestly one of the best thrift stores in Austin!! I was shocked by how clean and nice it was. All of the clothes were actually arranged by size and type and were well sorted. It's not a huge thrift store, but they had a lot of shoes, and a really awesome crafting section. I got about 5 packs of bias tape and trip for less than a dollar each. They also have a lot of fabric/bed sheets. Oh yeah, and they also sell art and furniture as well. The best thing about this thrift store was definitely their prices. Dresses were about $5-$6, and everything else was about$3-$4 or less. All in all, 10/10. read more

I finally came across Austin Disaster Relief/Hope Family Thrift and they used Square Cow to pick up our pieces on their route today. i will never shop or donate to this organization ever again. An employee accused me of shoplifting, when I handed her my receipt (as the girl who rang me up yelled that I had paid for my purchase) this woman (blonde, 50's, thin & bad teeth) grabbed the receipt out of my hand and then grabbed my purse and tried to pull it off my shoulder. She started yelling at me that she knew I took a jacket. I was wearing short sleeves and shorts - I have a small cross body purse. There was no possible way for me to hide a jacket anywhere! The other employees grabbed my purse from her and gave it back to me. I bought a picture frame but every time I look at it I feel irate at the fact that I was insulted, yelled at, accused of stealing and had an employee grab and take my purse from me. Hope Family Thrift Store is one of the best thrift stores I have ever shopped at. The moment you walk in, everyone greets you, the clothes are clean and without tears or stains. There is a big selection of really nice furniture and they have a big household section to choose from. I thought the atmosphere was great and the prices are very reasonable.
