I'm in the process of remodeling my home, and from this experience of dealing with dozens of different contractors I've received a full spectrum education in their world. Here's the gist of what I learned: about half of the contractors are honest.. they make the process fun and are a real pleasure to deal with; the other half are dishonest... they string you along, make the process a hassle, and are a real pain. Chris (the owner) and his team are a shining example of what great contractors SHOULD be. For starters, [[HIGHLIGHT]]Chris is an extremely kind and responsive person. From my first phone call with him (he showed up the same-day, on a SUNDAY) to my projects completion day.. he always responded quickly, was extremely polite, and very thorough.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] (He never gives you those weak 2-word text responses like lesser contractors). Chris helped me design my deck and pick out the best materials for my needs. He used a 3D rendering software that shows you exactly how your deck is going to look in your backyard. It was actually really cool, and helped me make some tweaks to the design before starting construction. After signing my contract, his crew showed up the very next morning. These guys were absolute studs. They worked their butts off from 8am - 6pm every day until the job was complete... wow! Many days I work from home, so I was able to watch them. They didn't rush their work, they were very calculated and meticulous about doing the job the right way (a marathon not a sprint mentality). This doesn't mean they're slow, it means they care about the details and doing things right. His crew also isn't a bunch of 20 year old rookies playing on their phones either. These guys all look to be in their mid 30's and early 40's. Men with lots of experience.. they have families to feed, work extremely hard, and know what they're doing. The craftsmanship was phenomenal. The engineering very structurally sound. The design is beautiful and actually has my neighbors giving compliments. Anytime there was an issue during the project (and there weren't many), Chris and his crew fixed it immediately like it was no problem at all. Easy peasy. Chris did what he said he was going to do, when he said he was going to do it, and charged me what he said he was going to charge. Actually.. he went above and beyond what he said he was going to do, he made improvements to the project beyond what was promised, and even gave me a discount at the very end because of a few minor details.. which he didn't have to do. I didn't complain and I didn't request a discount...that's just the kind of guy he is. Incredible. I'm going to mention one last thing I was going to leave out but I think it's important. Every morning before work began, Chris gathers his crew and they do a group prayer together. They ask each other what's going on in their personal lives, and what they can pray for each other about. Then they read a short scripture out loud together, and they start their day. Unbelievably cool. Why do they call themselves Sasquatch? Because these guys are freaking beasts. This is one of those rare experiences where I had a feeling it was going to go well, and it turned out even better than I had imagined. There's a reason why they have so many 5 star reviews. If you're looking to have a deck built in Austin I'm going to help you... skip the weak fluff and go with Sasquatch.

I chose Sasquatch to add on to an existing deck for a hot tub installation. The deck needed to be level and strong enough to support the weight of the hot tub. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Chris and I discussed options before proceeding and the result was perfect![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Chris's team is hard working and I was impressed by the speed and quality of their workmanship. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Chris was easy to work with and accommodating to changes we wanted to make as the build progressed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their attention to detail and desire to do things right were evident from the start. We are very satisfied with the results and so glad we went with Sasquatch.

We just bought a new home and Austin and hired Chris to build a deck for us. He was by far the most knowledgeable contractor that gave my husband a quote. His team did high quality work with high quality materials. It was worth every penny and I would recommend them to anyone in the Austin area. Our deck is beautiful!

Sasquatch Deck and Fence installed new fencing, a deck, and a hot tub pad. They got the job done in a timely manner while being flexible with me and always ensuring that I was happy with the work they were doing. I highly recommend them for your project.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Chris in a panic when I realized my 2 story outdoor stairs and deck had bad rot. He responded immediately, was incredibly helpful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He came out to meet us and look things over just a day later. I looked at other companies, got other bids, etc and ultimately went with Sasquatch to fully rebuild the stairs and deck. Chris and Pasha are incredibly kind, trustworthy, professional and did excellent work. I'd highly recommend them and will definitely use them in the future.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I started a conversation with Chris who called me and walked through options, he came out late August and provided a preliminary quote.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had gotten multiple quotes. But Sasquatch Deck and Fence had the most extensive reviews and provided a 3D model along with physical samples. We decided on Deckorators Voyage Costa and Aluminum rails. It's not the cheapest but does look fantastic. They used concrete and 3" square steel supports. Build started October 7 tearing out old deck and finished install of new deck in about 10 days. Super happy with the deck, the team, and the process. Highly recommended!

Sasquatch Deck and Fence helped us replace an old wooden deck with new composite material and add a new gate to our fence. They were awesome to work with in every way and the guys that built the deck showed great craftsmanship and attention to detail. We love how the deck came out and look forward to NEVER having to paint or stain again. We'd definitely work with Sasquatch again and highly recommend them.

Amazing quality. You can tell these folks take a lot of pride in their work. Something wasn't lining up after hours of work, and I watched them undo all their work in order to redo it with better result. I don't know when the last time I was so pleased with the results of a home improvement project. I look forward to continuing to work with them for my fencing and patio needs.

We had Sasquatch Deck rebuild our 30+ year old deck. Chris was awesome! He worked with us on several iterations on designs, he was patient and provided excellent advice. Once we had our design locked, his team was able to start almost immediately. The new deck is solid, watching them frame it out, it is clear that they build these things to last! They don't skimp on materials, they anchor it to the ground in multiple places. I'm confident we'll get many decades out of this deck. Once it was completed, it is beautiful! Exactly what we wanted and the team did it very quickly. He even built in dog ramps for our dogs to make it easier for them to get up / down the steps. I highly recommend Chris and his team at Sasquatch! Everything about working with them was awesome!

Ben the owner was incredibly easy to work with and made coordinating the quotes between 3 different houses sharing common fences very simple. Ben was very accommodating as we worked though multiple rounds of revisions to the quotes due to new requirements from the various houses. He quickly made the updates and got the revised quotes sent out. From a customer service and price standpoint, Good Neighbors Fence was easily the best of the 3 companies we requested quotes from. As for the quality of the fence, we could not be happier. Ben was on-site at least once or twice a day to supervise the crew throughout the 3 day installation. The actual crew was very professional and completed all the work with good attention to detail. They did a fantastic job keeping the work site clean throughout the day, and always made sure everything was orgainized before they left for the day. As always there were a few very minor details to be addressed on the final walk-through, but each item was quickly resolved by the team with a smile. The team really did make an effort to ensure everything was done to their high standards. I have already recommended Good Neighbors Fence ATX to our friends who are looking to get some fencing installed.

This review is warning to what can potentially happen if you take contractors at their word…read more I reached out Austin Pergola Company in order to see if a carport would be feasible in my neighborhood. There are many carports in my neighborhood that were similar to what I envisioned on the side of my lot. They told me to send them a survey of my home and we would discuss over the phone if it was possible. This should have been the first RED FLAG. In all my questions that involved permitting Lauren would always make sure the discussion was over the phone. On our phone call I was assured that they could install the carport with no issue. They said I could get a permit, but was not required based on the size of the carport. In reality the City of Austin requires ANY structure attached to your house to be permitted! The size is irrelevant! My other concern was that the carport would get too close to the neighboring property. Aaron said based off the survey and on-site visit they did, this would not be an issue. They said they would build a carport with no overhang and they could use my existing driveway in order to avoid going onto the neighboring property. What instead happened is the carport was built with an overhang that went onto my neighbor's property by 4-6 inches. When my neighbor went to sell their home this caused issues for them and they reported the overhang to the city. When I tried to get the carport permitted I was surprised to find that it was basically un-permittable. There are NO exceptions to the 5 foot side setback in Austin! This was contrary to what Austin Pergola told me over the phone. They had told me everything would be done up to code and I could get it permitted if I wanted. I assumed that Austin Pergola Company would know the rules around permitting pergolas/carports within the City of Austin. This company really shouldn't be advising people about permitting and surveys if they have no idea what they are talking about. In all likelihood they do know the rules, they are banking on the fact that most of the time any issues pop up after they have already been paid. In Texas, contractors are not required to have a general contracting license. This means if you are working with unlicensed contractors (such as Austin Pergola Company), they are held to no standard (unlike electricians/plumbers). You as the homeowner are essentially the general contractor at that point. So you have to keep them in line. You have to know all the rules about permitting. You will have to make sure they construct your project on your property. I assumed when you are spending over 10k on a project they take care of you, but that simply isn't the case. If the project you are considering is at all attached to your home or anywhere close to 5 feet from the border of your property I would highly recommend using a different company. Try to find a contractor that will obtain the necessary permits. If a company is unwilling to obtain permits for their own work, it should be a red flag that the work they are doing may be difficult/impossible to permit. At the very least make sure you get everything discussed in writing. Any discussion over the phone and not in the contract is basically irrelevant. Do not take their word about anything related to permitting or surveys. No matter what they tell you issues do come up. I was able to use the carport for only 3 months before I had to take it down and I am now out over $10,000 on this project. References: https://www.austintexas.gov/page/work-exempt-building-permits https://www.austintexas.gov/page/how-select-contractor * Additions or alterations to your home contrary to city code may affect title transfers or insurance requirements should you ever decide to sell your home. Therefore, be cautious of contractors who that state no permits or inspections are required. * All contractors are required to obtain permits for their work, thus be wary of a contractor who asks you to obtain a permit on their behalf. The party that obtains the permit is ultimately held responsible for work that does not meet city code.
