We had a great experience with wisdom tooth removal with Dr Zarroug for my daughter. Appointment was quickly scheduled. The surgery went very well. There were no surprise charges - exactly what the office had mentioned before the surgery. We are very impressed with the after-care. They have a 24 hour support line if any questions come up. Dr Zarroug was very kind and took a call late at night to talk to my daughter through some anxiety about pain. And he even saw her early next morning at no charge to alleviate her concerns. He truly cared about each patient. They were understanding and truly attentive to me about my extreme dental anxiety and took extra time to make me feel comfortable. Went in for wisdom teeth removal, had to sit through some pretty silly wait times for how empty it was. They made me sit in a room alone for over 20 minuets just checking my vitals. Woke up after surgery with someone spewing important information at me and my friend, luckily she remembered, because there is no way I would remember that in the state I was in. The pain medication was completely insufficient and left me with nothing during the most painful days of the recovery. If you go in for anything, demand they give you extra pain medication because they don't know how to prescribe properly. They even gave me incorrect and harmful advice regarding recovery, absolutely unbelievable experience. read more

The person who scheduled my appointment was amazing. I was going out of town on vacation and had an issue with a wisdom tooth and needed it extracted in a timely manner. Because the tooth had a hole in it they recommended using anesthesia in case it broke during the extraction. They did say there was a chance insurance might not cover it. I was ok with that. I paid the $341 they requested upfront. The procedure went well. I saw the EOB from my insurance, and it indicated I owed a total of $626.80 so I figured they would be billing me $285.80 and I was fine with that. The insurance did deny the anesthesia. Then I got the bill from Austin Oral Surgery for $686.80 (after my $341 payment so the total amount was $1027.80). They billed me $190 for an x-ray they told me they were not going to bill me for, and they billed me $785 for the anesthesia. The amount they would have been paid by the insurance company for the anesthesia if it had not been denied was $384. They billed me $401 MORE than they would have accepted from the insurance company. How is that ethical? I went to them as an in-network provider, they contracted with my insurance company to accept X amount for services rendered and would have accepted that amount from the insurance company but when it was denied I have to pay the full amount? They basically made an extra $401 on the insurance denial. When I called back today to go ahead and pay it they said it was now $559.80 which I'm not sure how they got that amount since the x-ray they said they were going to remove from the bill was $190 but I just wanted to get it paid and move on with my life. I am posting this review because I think what they did was wrong and maybe someone else who might go there will now be more aware of what to expect when it comes to their billing practices. read more

I'm a dental coward; never mind that I'm also an MD. I postponed an extraction far too long after being referred to Dr. Thomas Weil (of Austin Maxillofacial Surgery) by my wife, for whom he's performed several extractions. Once I made the decision, they got me in without delay. My experience with Dr. Weil and the staff was excellent. Dr. Weil was extremely competent, gave outstanding information about procedures and alternatives, and took out my "no. 2" molar in less than 10 minutes with a minimum of fuss and NO pain. I didn't even have the IV sedation ("twilight sleep"), just local anesthetic and nitrous oxide. I went in with bad dental pain, walked out with ZERO discomfort, and the pain has never returned. (Take your post-op meds as prescribed and follow the instructions to the letter.) read more

dr. quaroni and the other woman who was helping me (i'm so sorry but i cannot remember her name all ik is that she is russian) were the absolute best ever. i cannot recommend them enough so kind, caring, attentive, i felt incredibly safe and confident to be in their hands. i have never had such a positive experience with a doctor. but this review is not about my procedure, it's about after: after being told to change the gauze frequently once i leave, i was waiting to be discharged for almost two hours without a gauze change, i was covered in blood. my teeth, my tongue my lips, i had to use the tissues my ice packs that weren't cold anymore were wrapped in to keep it from spilling out of my mouth finallyyyy some girl comes in to change my gauze and my boyfriend asks if i can rinse out my mouth before she put the new gauze in. she is somehow already irritated and is like that's what the gauze of for, so then i ask, explaining to her that my mouth is coated in blood and id like to rinse it out. THEN she suggests i rinse it out in the car if i want to so bad???? which doesn't make any sense so i'm like does that not not defeat to purpose of you putting this gauze in for me rn??? at this point i want to cry because it seems like a pretty simple request to me and finallyyy she says theres a bathroom "over there" if i want and i'm like yeah that would be great actually BECAUSE THATS ALL I WANT and i ask my boyfriend to come with me because she had no intention of actually showing me where it was. i gently rinse out my mouth and go back to my chair to wait for her to get done with the person next to me and nowww i'm crying because first off duh i'm already emotional but i was doing so well the entire time i was waiting there. i was happy, feeling good, laughing, my boyfriend brought me flowers everything was great. i don't know how me wanting to swish a little water in my mouth after it had been collecting blood for TWO HOURS was suchhhh an inconvenience to HER and why she had to have such an attitude and treat me so poorly but even down to leading us to the door and her good riddance ass "have a good one". i thought maybe i was tripping because of the meds but my boyfriend confirmed for me that i was indeed not tripping and she was just horrible and unnecessarily harsh. if you want to be so mean maybe go get a job where you aren't dealing with vulnerable people. loved my doctor tho!!! and the ladies at the front who got us new ice packs when we went back inside were also very very nice!!! i really recommend every aspect of this place aside from that one person read more

If I could give them a half star, I would! I literally just called for some information in regards to getting my wisdom teeth removed, as I was explaining my situation, the woman (who also didn't introduce herself at all), kept interrupting me. When I finally asked about a payment plan, there was no sincerity in her voice and she basically told me they don't do it, didn't even give me time to respond and told me to apply for care credit. When I told her I am not approved for care credit, she scoffed in a way and said ok good luck and just hangs up. I'm sorry but if you're not willing to hear me out or explain anything else to me, then you shouldn't be in the customer service business or at least the front desk. If I could give more stars to Dr. Quaroni I would! If you are looking for an Oral Surgeon who is extremely skilled and has the most wonderful bed side manner, you can just stop right here. I am a really tough case as I had been told by my last OS in Northern California, who came highly recommended. I went in to have all my wisdom teeth extracted and he was only able to get one out because my bone is quite dense as I am on the older side of having wisdom teeth out (48yrs young):) Fast forward 4yrs later, I am having trouble with another wisdom tooth and l need to have it extracted. I am not happy about this at all considering the last episode and now I am even more mature. I did a lot of research to find an OS here in Austin who I thought may be up for the job. Well, thank goodness I found this man!!! I told him the saga from the last event and he said I will do my very best and I will take good care of you. I then asked him if he would be up for taking the remaining wisdom teeth out so that I would not have to deal with problems in the future. He said yes. But since then, I have been billed randomly for high amounts throughout the year and never properly communicated with on why I'm still being billed. I got it all settled and was told my balance was finally $0, only to receive another bill for over $1000 a couple of months later. What was most important to me in selecting a surgeon to perform my oral surgery was finding an absolute expert in the profession. I cared about bedside manner, but it was not a deciding factor for me. How "nice" a surgeon is has little to do with how competent they are in performing a highly complex surgery like mine. My top priority was expertise. I did not want a surgeon who this was their 50th procedure. I wanted someone that it was their thousandth. Dr. Quaroni is that surgeon. He has less than a 3% relapse rate, which means it's extremely rare that he has to perform corrective surgery on a patient more than once. Before meeting Dr. Q, others had informed me that he was "tough" and "not warm" and a little "abrupt". So that's what I expected when I met him. They must have been talking about someone else. He doesn't chit-chat, but that doesn't mean he's not warm. Dr. Q is all business and very direct, which I like. He knows what he's talking about and is extremely meticulous about his work. So much so that he took a mold of my mouth and performed a practice surgery on it about a week prior to my scheduled surgery. This is an impressive thing when you are trusting someone to use tiny saws and knives on the inside of your mouth while you are out cold. Oral surgery requires a lot of coordination between your dentist, orthodontist, and oral surgeon. I found Dr. Q to be proactive and persistent in reaching out to the other doctors to ensure that everyone was on the same page down to the finest detail. I have also found him to be a compassionate surgeon. Dr. Quaroni checked on me personally every day while I was in the hospital, sometimes more than once. It is not uncommon for a surgeon to send a staff member or tech to check on a patient. That is not Dr. Quaroni's practice. He does it himself. Is that necessary? Maybe not, but I really appreciated it. He also called my husband over that weekend to see how I was doing. He even opened the office during the holiday himself specifically to see me and a few other patients. He made me feel like I was the only one he was performing surgery on, but the reality is that he was in back-to-back procedures before Christmas, the busiest time of year for oral surgeons. I can't say that I enjoyed jaw surgery, but I can say that I'm so grateful Dr. Quaroni is the surgeon who performed it. read more

Dr. Voorhees and his staff at this location are an outstanding bunch. I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed this morning and I'm feeling fine 12 hours later. Everyone is warm and friendly and very reassuring if you're a bit nervous. I'm not in the least bit of pain after the procedure, and in fact it was much more painful suffering with a Wisdom tooth that was prone to infections for 10 years. I was afraid my 3 day weekend would be ruined getting my wisdom teeth out, but I have a feeling I'll be able to enjoy it a bit. I'll also be 100% for work come Tuesday. I've brought a number of people to see Dr. Vorhees over the past few years and have even been a patient myself. Going to the oral surgeon isn't fun or something you'd look forward to, but sometimes in life, it becomes necessary. When it does, it's good to know you're in the hands of someone you can trust. Dr. Vorhees has been that kind of doc, in my experience. He's calm, focused, and caring. He takes the time to explain things and to be reassuring, which is important when you're going to be lying there in the chair, mouth open and vulnerable. His assistants have also been calm, caring and knowledgeable each time I've been there, full of questions and concerns. The office is nothing fancy, but I'll take knowledgeable, compassionate docs and a smooth experience over a fancy office any day. They've been good with follow-up too. The front office staff is friendly and helpful as well. "Central billing" has been a mixed bag as far as customer service, but they seem to be affiliated with the larger practice and not this branch. read more

After having him evaluated in the ER at Seton Medical Center Austin he was referred to Austin Oral Surgery to see Dr.Quaroni who came in on a Saturday evening. I'm assuming he was the doctor on call but we couldn't have received better care had we picked the Dr ourselves. He was so professional and patient with all of our "worried parent" questions. Customer care is not really their thing. Completely lacking in transparency - about procedures, pricing and insurance billing. They insisted that we pay upfront and wait 6-8 weeks for (possible) reimbursement - though they also refused to give us the billing codes they were using so that we could verify independently with our insurance company. We called to relay our concerns and had an equally difficult time getting to a supervisor. Duck, cover and be cagey seems to be their MO. He needs an assessment done for the VA on his jaw/teeth which he has trauma to from his time in service. He explained he would pay out of pocket, no billing to insurance required. The woman on the phone said that they don't take Tricare Military, to which my husband said he would pay out of pocket. They refused his request because they didn't have insurance they could bill. I was referred by my regular dentist. My regular dentist was unable to completely remove a tooth. I was nervous due to the pain I had when my regular dentist tried to pull the tooth and the time it took. Dr. Voorhees was very friendly and cracked jokes so that loosened me up. He was very quick with removing the tooth and I left feeling no pain. His staff of ladies were very friendly and constantly asked how I was doing during the procedure. Also I was very pleased he gave me my prescriptions after my consultation. That was great because nobody wants to go wait at a pharmacy after having dental work. I recently had my wisdom teeth extracted at Austin Oral Surgery. Dr. Quaroni was my surgeon and I am SO happy that I chose him to do the surgery. He is the most skilled dental surgeon I have been to. He explained everything about the procedure and post-op thoroughly. The procedure was quick and painless. I had zero post-op problems, no swelling, and no pain afterwards. Even though I was given prescriptions (ahead of time) for pain management, I only took two Ibuprofen a couple of hours after the surgery just to make sure I wouldn't be in pain after the deadening wore off. But, after that I never needed anything else. The sockets healed up within a week and the sutures dissolved on their own. I had a follow up two weeks later and thanked Dr. Quaroni for his excellent expertise and patient care. Highly recommend him! read more

I had an admittedly very easy wisdom tooth extraction (already fully erupted, they just had to pull the teeth, only local anesthetic) done by Dr. Voorhies. From anesthesia injection to walking out the door took around 20 min. PROS: Everyone was very friendly. Dr. Voorhies is very straightforward and thorough, and his army of staff made me feel comfortable and informed about everything that was happening. They also explained everything in a way that was very clear to a non-medical layman like me. Almost painless, quick recovery, I only needed OTC ibuprofen to deal with the pain. I was back to my old eating habits in 3 days. For the visit where they actually did the extraction (Tues morning) and the follow-up visit (Thurs afternoon), I was seen with little wait. CONS: I had to wait for my initial consultation (~30 min) on a Tues morning. read more

Dr. Voorhes did an amazing job removing all 4 of my wisdom teeth at once and it wouldn't be an issue to have to go through it again. It was that painless! Other than the first few hours of being numb and groggy from the surgery, I went about my routine as per normal and was back to eating solids by the next day. The facilities aren't very modern and I had my doubts going in via a recommendation from a friend. You can hear the drills going on which can scare the crap out of you, and the dental equipment looked like it belonged in the 90s. Service wise, the staff and doctors are very straightforward and our interactions were purely business. Dr. Voorhes scared me with the worst case scenarios on our consultation, but it all turned out better than I thought it would. That said, Dr. Voorhes and staff are very friendly do know how to lighten the stress of surgery with all kinds of jokes on the day itself. When I was there, I overheard one of the staff singing about going to the bathroom to everyone in the room. If that doesn't tell you about the people who work there, I don't know what else would. read more

I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled this morning and my regular dentist warned me that the shape of my roots meant the surgeon would likely have to take it out in two pieces and it wouldn't be easy. Dr. Q had it out in 20 minutes in one piece! It was a really easy procedure - even the shots before hand barely hurt. He's nice and friendly and great at what he does.
