Dr. Widner removed all 4 of my wisdom teeth in one go, and it was a great experience! They were quick, easy, and informative! I usually hate IVs but Dr. Widner did it so well that I didn't even feel it. I was also nervous about the anesthesia because I'd never gone under any type of surgery before but it was a breeze and they explained everything well. All of the staff was very kind pre and post op, and the post-op surgical assistant even gave me a warmed blanket while I came off the anesthesia. She also explained all of the after care to me and my caregiver and answered all of our questions. The front office was great about scheduling my post-op appointment around my travel schedule. Best professional dental care that i have ever received. I was in great pain from root canal that became infected that was performed by general dentist dr Winder saw me quickly, placed me under correct dosage of antibiotics and I was on road to recovery. I visited Dr. Widner for TMJ pain and he walked me through the process of using Botox in the masseter muscle to prevent me from clenching my teeth at night. I expressed several concerns and he assured me that my smile would not be affected as the injection is much deeper in the muscle than any facial/smile muscles. About 9 days after the injections, I was in severe pain in my jaw. It felt like I had been forced to chew gum for 24 hours straight. Additionally, my very pronounced dimple that I have had my whole life and is a distinct feature of my face and smile had disappeared. I looked like I had a minor stroke for about 8 months after this procedure. In my follow up visit, he said he had never encountered results like mine, and was apologetic. I expected him to refund the procedure or at least discount it based on the very unfortunate one of a kind results he has never seen. Not only did he not offer any of that in office, his office refused to listen to my concerns after the fact and multiple times of reaching out. This procedure cost me ~$1700. I am extremely disappointed that this Oral Surgeon is incompetent in his job and did not offer me anything to reduce my pain and suffering. read more

I just hate it when such a great doctor hires shady people to nickle and dime the Patients like it's K-Mart Discount Day negotiations, etc. They told me when the insurance paid them I would get a certain amount back but then they refused to give that amount to me saying it was part of their 'discount' of the day that they supposedly gave... Dr. Widner was recommended to me by my dentist when I had swelling on my lower gums and my dentist could not determine if I had a cracked tooth. Dr. Widner worked me into his schedule the same day and examined the xray of my dentist. He showed me where the crack was and it went down to the root. I needed to have my tooth extracted and to have an implant. The procedure was explained to me carefully and the front desk gave me information about my insurance and my out of pocket costs. Awesome oral surgeon. My two top front teeth kept getting infected. So much so that my crowns wouldn't even stay on. Dr. Widner correctly diagnosed my problem and recommended a course of action: extraction of both teeth, some bone grafting and two implants. I scheduled the surgery for the following week. All went well with the surgery and recovery/healing time. Five months later and I was ready for my new permanent crowns. Dr. Widner and his staff are very professional and did an incredible job. I only have one recommendation and it's a relatively minor one. When you're having visible teeth removed, they should warn you that it will be emotional and to prepare yourself. I had some depression and got on antidepressants for a few months which really helped. I will gladly go to Dr. Widner again and would highly recommend him to friends and family. A doctor and staff that is low on ethics. When I consulted them for a root canal problem I was informed about further steps to be taken and surgery needed. I was also assured that I would not have to pay any out of pocket expenses. Having being assured of this thrice I went ahead with the consultation. Very smooth sales talk by the doctor and the staff of on how I need to do the surgery at the earliest, the staff pushing me to sign up for the appointment for surgery giving me a low estimate. Luckily I did not fall for the trap. A few months later the office sends me an inflated bill saying that most of the services they assured me of was not covered and now I would have to pay for the expenses out of pocket. My 8 years old son was referred to Dr. Widner by the orthodontist to remove 2 supernumerary teeth that currently blocking the permanent tooth to erupt as well causing a big gap between 2 other teeth. I was able to get the appointment quickly (within a week) and after a couple of scan, it was determine that they need to be removed. I was of course nervous, because my son is already picky eater as it is and having such surgery made me worry. He told me that he's going to be fine and his own daughter used to have an extra tooth as well. The surgery went smoothly and he was home 2 hours later. Unfortunately CVS refused to fulfilled his Tylenol with pediatric codaine in it but Dr. Widner said to just go ahead and give him regular tylenol/mortrin combo. Initially I was concerned that's he going to be in pain, but surprisingly he said no so I gave him only regular tylenol/mortrin once and he never take another dose again. Dr. Widner was so kind that he called us Saturday night (surgery was Friday morning) to check on him and told me to call him if there's anything. That in itself won brownie points from me, he is just amazing. On Monday, his lovely nurse Jill also called to check on him. Since we never had this kind of surgery before I wasn't sure if his surgery area should look the way it looked..if you know what I mean-I still cringe just thinking about it!. She asked me to sent a picture and she said everything is good! In all, I'm very happy with my experience with Dr. Widner and his staff. They are just so kind and amazing and great with follow up. My experience was similar to that described by a few other patients -- Dr. Widner seemed experienced and thoughtful, and I had no concerns about his abilities, but his front office has fallen apart in a dramatic and concerning way. After my consultation for an extraction and dental implants, I waited nearly two hours to be checked out, and never actually got billing information or a treatment plan; I was promised "an email" that never showed up. Something is seriously wrong with the record keeping and patient-facing communication systems in this office; I know anecdotally that my dental implant would have cost around $7,500 and would not be covered by my DPO (not medically necessary - cosmetic); but to not even get a treatment plan for oral surgery seems like a dangerous invitation to future malpractice complaints. I was referred to Dr. Steven Wider by my dentist, Dr. Tina Mann with Mesa Dental back in February 2018. I am 25 years old and had never had a surgical procedure in my entire life, so I was a bit apprehensive about getting my wisdom teeth removed since they were not pestering me in my day to day life. Both of my parents still have their wisdom teeth, so I kept putting it off when all of my peers were getting theirs extracted back in high school and undergrad. Needless to say, I found myself wanting to get it over with so I decided to book the consultation to see what the removal process would look like to get all 4 taken out at once. I went to my first appointment on a Monday afternoon in early April at 3:30 PM to meet the doctor and his staff, as well as familiarize myself with the process and what I should expect the day of the surgery. During the consultation, we took some panoramic x-rays of my mouth and went through pre-op and post-op procedures to prepare me for the surgery. I was required to pick up all of my prescriptions that I needed before the surgery (Antibiotics, Narcotics, and Antihistamines). I was scheduled to go in on a Thursday morning at 7:30 AM in early May to get the 4 teeth removed from my mouth. My mother and father took me to Dr. Widner's office since I would be going under general anesthesia I needed a responsible ride to and from the office. I was told not to eat or drink past midnight the night before and could only have a small sip of water with the antibiotic the morning of the surgery. They opened the doors to Dr. Widner's office about 5-10 minutes before 7:30 AM and began to check me in and collect payment. I only waited with my parents for a few minutes before I was taken back and given a surgical gown that I put over my clothes. After laying in the surgical chair I was given a warm blanket and began to be hooked up to the IV, EKG monitor, etc. so that the doctor and nurses could begin the extraction. I asked the nurse to keep 2 of the 4 teeth for me so I could take them home, I made sure to ask this before I went under because if not they would have already disposed of them in the biomedical trash. Dr. Widner came in and assured me everything would go smoothly and I took a deep breath and I went under into a deep and painless sleep. Shortly after I woke up with a numb face and gauze poking out of my mouth, I was loppy but I was okay and the procedure went great. My father was waiting for me in the recovery area, where they gave me more gauze to take home for my mouth and once I was alert enough to move the nurse and my dad took me down the elevator in a wheelchair to the car. We booked my post-op appointment the morning of my surgery for a week after on a Thursday afternoon. I took off work on Thursday and Friday and took it very easy on Saturday and Sunday so that I could return to work the following Monday, which I did and was probably about 70% recovered at that point. When I went in for my post-op appointment on Thursday afternoon, nurse Judy cleaned out my lower tooth sockets and taught me how to use the plastic, curved, syringe to clean out the sockets myself at home. Dr. Widner took a look at my mouth and said I was healing very well and quickly, which I was very happy to hear. He said that there is still a chance for an infection so he cautinoed me to keep cleanng out the sockets and to call him if anything happened. I left his office and now it is ten days after surgery and I feel pretty much back to normal. I have not needed to use any prescription medication since day 5 and am now free to go back to life as usual. I would reccoment Dr. Widner and his amazing staff to anyone who is looking to have a oral surgery performed on themselves or a loved one. Sleep Apnea? You're In the Right Place! If you have Obstructive Sleep Apnea I cannot recommend Dr Widner enough! I am a 27 year old male, 6'0" tall and a fit 190 lbs, and I was diagnosed with OSA and it had begun to impact my personal and professional life. What hurt the most was that it was effecting my passion of bodybuilding. When my energy levels plummeted and I became exhausted simply going up the stairs I knew I had to do something. I saw, and was treated by, just about every specialist under the sun before I found Dr Widner and learned the real reason I have sleep apnea. He explained that many people who have OSA also have a deformity in their jaw that restricts airway volume. These deformities can vary but in my case I had 'Maxillary-Mandibular Hypoplasia' and 'Genio-Hypoplasia'; Basically, my jaw and chin were under-developed, and therefore recessed. This, coupled with my large tongue, left very little space in my airway and thus during sleep I would experience airway collapse several times an hour. I learned that deformities of this kind are largely hereditary, but thankfully medical science has a solution. Dr Widner told me about a procedure called Maxillo-Mandibular Advancement (MMA) that has been clinically proven to show a 90-95% success rate in ELIMINATING OSA (AHI under 5). It is an orthognatic surgery; The upper jaw (maxilla) and lower jaw (mandible) are carefully separated from their anchor points and moved forward a pre-determined distance determined by Dr Widner and secured in place. Since the soft tissues of the human airway are attached to these two structures, this causes an expansion of the airway (the tongue now also has more space in the mouth) as the jaws are advanced forward. With increased airway volume there is a significant/complete reduction in airway collapse; This is the goal of the procedure, reduction/elimination of OSA. Although this is a major surgery, it can be used as a first line of defense for ideal candidates suffering from OSA. Personally, I had already tried more conservative options such as CPAP and lifestyle changes. I looked into oral appliances (MADs) for sleep apnea, but these were not covered by my insurance and had lower success rates. I even had a septoplasty done but still no reduction in AHI. I had researched MMA prior to my visit, and although I was hopeful I was cautious. But after each meeting with Dr Widner and his wonderful staff (Shout out to Jill and Judie! Y'all are the best ever!) I grew more and more optimistic and informed. EVERY step of the process was explained to me in great detail. They took impressions of my teeth (to preserve my bite after the operation) as well as photos and CAT scans of my head (to digitally engineer the desired results prior to surgery). Dr Widner sat down with me and explained the process very thoroughly using models as visual aids, and he answered all of my questions making sure I was well informed. His staff were just as kind and meticulous throughout the whole process, I could tell they were all very experienced and that they really cared about my well-being. Dr Widner performed my MMA on 10/22/2019 and from the moment I woke up from anesthesia I could tell a marked improvement in my breathing! It has been three weeks, and most of the swelling has gone down, I am sleeping soundly w/out snoring (and on my back for once!), and my bite is still in perfect alignment! I am still some ways out from full recovery, on average it takes about 6-8 weeks for complete recovery (eating hard foods, jaw mobility, etc). I cannot believe the changes I feel so far, definitely a life-changing experience! It is a surreal feeling; The fog of OSA is starting to lift and I feel like taking on the world. Plus, I have to say I am liking the changes in my appearance! Keep in mind, Dr Widner DOES take your appearance into account when planning the operation so don't worry about looking deformed. That being said, you can expect a stronger jawline and a 'toothier' smile! The best part is NEVER having to wear a CPAP ever again! Dr Widner has performed this procedure OVER 1000 TIMES over a period of 34 years. The bottom line is, if you have OSA and are looking into treatment or surgery, I recommend seeing Dr Widner FIRST just to see if the root cause of your OSA is due to your jaw. No sense in having unnecessary surgeries that only cover up the symptoms of OSA, or going through treatments that may not work. Just one consultation is all it takes to know for sure, then you can consider your options. Do not be afraid of short term discomfort if you can prevent long term suffering. Dr Widner was able to accommodate me due to the emergency nature of my situation, and he was the only surgeon who recommended extractions with immediate dental implant (screws) based on my condition. I needed a predetermination from the insurance company, which involved them submitting a form to my insurance. They told me it should take 2 weeks. When I called my insurance company a month later they told me the doctor's office hadn't submitted anything. I called them and sure enough, they hadn't submitted it. In total this process that they said would take 2 weeks took 3 months. 2) When I needed to go get a scan at a radiologist, they messed up the order form, leading me to have to get another scan. They refused to take responsibility for their mistake and instead tried to blame it on me, leading me to have to pay twice for the scan because they messed up the instructions on the first one and I didn't get what I needed. 3) Dr. Widner recommended I get a second opinion at a hospital 100 miles away (in San Antonio). I made an appointment using the referral form that they gave me. When I arrived--after taking a half day off from work to drive for 2 each hours each way to see this doc--the doc told me that Dr. Widner's office had referred me to the wrong wing of the hospital. I was in oral medicine when I needed to be in oral surgery. This wasted another 2 hours of my time having to wait to get in with the correct doctor in a different part of the hospital. In conclusion, if you want an easy experience where you don't have to spend countless hours on hold and spend extra money because of your doctor's office making mistakes, DON'T GO HERE. read more

Finally got my wisdom teeth out about a month ago and working with Dr. Widner and his team has been a great experience! I had my procedure right before COVID got serious and they were so helpful at putting my mind at ease about my general safety. Dr. Widner did implants for my two top front teeth after a catastrophic accident. He worked me in for an immediate emergency procedure and I was able to lead a Zoom meeting the next day!
