I hired Austin Stained Concrete and More to redo the concrete floor in my house. The floor turned out very uneven and blotchy, especially around the corners. The sealer/topcoat was done incorrectly and the floor had scuff marks a week later. When I pointed it out, the owner of the company Ed yelled and threatened me. I had Ed come out for an estimate for redoing my stained concrete floors and I greeted him on my front porch when he arrived and I asked if he had a mask to wear while inside my home. He said no, that he couldn't wear one and that he doesn't "do all of that." I hesitated and then asked if he was vaccinated, to which he also replied no, and then I asked him to give me 2 minutes while I went inside and confirmed with my husband it was OK for him to enter unmasked. I was turning to go back inside my house when he abruptly left, saying my question was offensive and he was "not going to be offended today." He left without providing an estimate. As I write this, the city of Austin is still in Stage 5 of its pandemic response, which is the highest level, and is recommending masks for all people, regardless of vaccination status. I had a great experience with Ed and his crew. We had a few different companies bid the job, and Austin Stained Concrete was an easy choice for a few reasons. First, the other companies that bid the job estimated that the existing floors would take 3 days to demo, and that they did not feel up to the task. Ed and his crew were happy to take on the demo and they had it completed just over 4 hours. Second, Ed is a very creative person, and having him around was really helpful for overcoming all the little things that come up during a job like this. For example, there were some moldings around the kitchen and island that were going to be a bit problematic. Ed had at least three good ideas for what to do about them. The other companies asked if we would sign a waiver to not hold them accountable for any damages that they might cause in those same areas. Huge plus for Ed and his team with problem solving and accountability. Ed's crew is very respectful, and they are a great group of guys. Ed called me early this morning after I inquired about his business yesterday. I requested a quote on my 635 square foot area as I've been comparing prices and was previously thinking about bamboo flooring and wanted to check the price difference between the two. Here's why I won't be buying his product: * He used the fact that I'm a woman as a selling tool. He said "you're a woman, you get your nails done, right?" I replied, "yes." He then asked how often I get them done, I hesitantly replied with "I don't go often but I'm aware of how often a person with fake nails requires a fill." He then pitched his point using phrases like "you women." All I ask is please, stop using that pitch with women. Just because I'm a female doesn't mean I care how closely your product is to fake nails. Gender equality is HUGE right now, please, don't bother another woman with last generation's sales pitch for women. Women DO own their own homes and want to be treated equally now days. * Last of all, when he gave me a price range of $5,000 to 6,000, I immediately said it was out of my price range. He then changed his already "cocky" tone to an angry one. He didn't apologize. He didn't ask me to think about it, and feel free to contact him in the future. He didn't thank me for my business. My husband and I just bought a house in south Austin that had an ugly, unfinished grey concrete floor. We wanted something "cool" and chose Ed and his guys to do the work and we are totally stoked with the results. It was a little nerve-wracking because we weren't sure what the outcome was really going to look like, and neither was Ed, but it turned out even better then we expected. Ed is a real character to converse with but he is willing to answer any questions you have. Anthony did all of the work on the floor and was super efficient, polite, and easy to talk to. He also was quick to ask for our thoughts on something when he had questions. Make sure you read ALL of the info Ed sends you, particularly about clean-up. We were in a rush to get moved in and had to clean ourselves and it was not fun. I would suggest covering any nearby flooring, furniture, etc. Oh, that reminds me, the guys went over the time they planned for but they stayed and worked until midnight so that we could move in the next morning with a finished floor. So here's the deal. These guys are the best! I called them and was put in touch with Ed. I had some procedural questions about putting stain on my concrete floors. He really took a lot of time going through the issues I was having and really knew his stuff. I ended up just having them come and fix my floors because the guys who had done it really messed it up to the point where whatever they had used on it was peeling off. Ed gave us a really good deal and my floors look amazing! I ended up using their services for my rental too and they did everything: painting, replacing fixtures, replacing the wood under the sink, installing a new toilet, etc and everything turned out great. They worked with my budget and did a lot of things I couldn't do because I was I was out of town like picking out paint colors! They even gave me new carpet that they had and would have taken habitat for humanity but they saw that I could use it! These guys are good honest people.
