When I look back at what made our family choose Green Ease Landscapes & Design, three things stood out: design expertise, clear and timely communication, and experience to back a vision for what our home could be. That vision has been further realized with the help of Green Ease. The following is a pretty detailed review of our positive experience with Green Ease, owner William P, and his crew. In short: You're going to get a solid service with them, so feel confident trusting them for your landscaping needs. My family's home had suffered a great deal of erosion over the years that required some foundation work. While we were pleased to get that done and over with, the truth is that the front and back yards were just unsightly. The front yard was essentially just dirt and roots. The large oak trees had prevented grass from growing, and the water run-off had exposed the massive roots that made walking outside a danger to everyone. In the back, water would collect and stagnate forming a mud swamp that oversaturated the grass. The back yard was literally being used as a storage area because we would never allow guests back there. Aside from a much-needed design overhaul, our home desperately needed drainage infrastructure to prevent further damage and allow the yard to actually function as an outdoor space. Our initial conversations began after I found Green Ease online and reviewed their mix of hardscaping, landscaping, and xeriscaping pictures and services. We were interested in xeriscaping from a water conservation prospective, and because we knew that the amount of shading in our lot just wouldn't make growing grass sustainable. We also knew that no matter what aesthetic we went with, it was critical to divert water in a way that lessened the chance of further foundation damage and swamp-like conditions in our yard. Those were our priorities, and everything else would be nice-to-haves. Green Ease was far away from us and their typical service area, but we took a chance and gave them a call. Owner William P. agreed to meet with us. He surveyed the property and made several recommendations; the core of which involved creating a retaining wall in the front of the home, installing drainage in the back yard, and utilizing a combination of xeriscaping and turf to uplift the overall look of the home. He took the time to ask my parents what they would like and how they would use the space, and then suggested we consider expanding the patio a bit so that there would be more room in the backyard to sit and enjoy the outdoors. After taking a few measurements, he provided a rough estimate of his work right then and there. We asked for some time to think things over. This was an investment, and we needed to be confident. We got bids from two other landscape design companies. One landscaping company refused to provide an honest bid without committing to a design fee, and the other provided a bid very similar to Green Ease, only after asking us to provide a design concept for the work. In the end, no one but Green Ease provided the design expertise and level of communication that we felt comfortable moving forward with. Once we agreed to move forward, William came out and we discussed the scope of work in a second detailed walk-through, and reviewed expectations and timelines. When work was set to begin, we visited with him to pick out hardscaping materials, and a selection of plants that would fit into our xeriscaped design. William made recommendations; many of which we went with, but we also felt very comfortable choosing another option if we would've had a different design element we wanted to achieve. When we met the crew, we knew we were in good hands. Every one of the crew members treated my folks with a great deal of respect. We hope that they left feeling proud of the work they did, because they did a damn good job. We allowed for a good deal of crew-based decision-making simply because of our busy schedule, and we were happy with all of the decisions they made. I especially want to shout out the fact that there were small but meaningful accommodations made in the design that made it safer and easier for my folks, who are up in their years, to navigate. I'm not sure that level of detail and consideration would've happened with another crew or another company. In the end, what we discussed during our first consult with Green Ease was ultimately what we received as a final product. There were no major surprises that you sometimes get from vision to execution. The front yard and its retaining wall and xeriscaped stone and plants are amazing, the back yard's turf and flagstone patio are beautiful, and the garden area that allows for native plants to flourish are all so visually appealing. We're incredibly grateful for the superb work they completed on our home. We chose Green Ease because we felt William would help realize our vision in a manner that was detail-oriented. Green Ease Landscapes & Design - Before and After - Landscaping Near Me - Austin, Texas

A family member asked me to improve the landscaping at her home. The existing landscape was overgrown from the builder's original plantings over 20 years earlier, and the previous owners' plantings had never been approved by the HOA and were also overgrown. After drawing up rudimentary front and backyard plans, I began looking for contractors that were highly reviewed. Good communication was an important aspect of this. Green Ease, owned by William Paquette, was the final choice. William met us at the house within a few days of my contacting him. He came across as competent and knowledgeable. He gave his initial estimate very quickly, and we found it to be reasonable relative to one other. The landscape plan included a curved limestone retaining wall, irrigation changes, a metal raised bed, and 2 cedar structures (a simple arbor and a trellis). Plants were included, as well as drip irrigation. William accompanied us to a nearby stone yard and wholesale nursery to make selections for stone, gravel, mulch, and plants. The number of plants included in the bid was determined based on the area being landscaped. The nursery products looked very nice when we made selections. Work began within a few weeks and was managed by Chris. William stopped by a few times. Chris also built a custom metal raised bed. A friend of William's built an amazing and substantial trellis and a cedar arbor. Plants were picked up just before they were to be installed, and I was allowed to place them. The project was deemed finished and was paid for, but there were a few things needing corrections. William was responsive and able to fit these fixes in within a few weeks. The positive aspects of this landscaping experience included excellent communication with William, his accompanying us to the stone yard and nursery, well-executed stone work, and the superb trellis and arbor. The guys did a great job of removing old plantings and filling in areas where new sod was needed. The negatives included areas I felt were not as well executed as they could have been, and are the reason for deducting one star on this review. The steel bed, while nicely made, did not fit flush against the patio and was filled with poor quality soil before I noticed the gap between bed and patio. The first "fix" by Chris was putting gravel into the gap and using mortar to seal the ends. The mortar cracked, and a second "fix" of steel being welded to hold the gravel in was done. It's functional but not pretty. Also, the plants that were brought in were definitely not the quality of those we looked at with William. Virtually all of them were leggy, and many looked unhealthy. Several ended up being replaced. I was also not happy that the arbor was positioned without first verifying the desired location. Still, the overall appearance of the landscape is very good, with the standout custom features. Green Ease is a business I would recommend to others. They handle every aspect of landscaping and do a good job. read more

*Update 6/26/2021* Mr. Paquette posted a response falsely accusing us of pulling up flagstones, walking on the flagstones and "altering" the irrigation system and insinuated that we are to blame for the condition of the patio and walkway. He quickly deleted that response (which I have added to the photos) and replied with quite the contradictory response to his original. His "offer" to do repairs has been declined due to the malicious false accusations. *Update* Less than a year after the stellar installation by Green Ease, this is just a little peek into what we have now. We've already hired another contractor to demo the entire patio and walkway to redo it professionally. As you can see, it looks like a kindergarten class came in to do this project. And just to add - the irrigation company he uses is his own brother. We've had to do $1500 in repairs to that mess so far. So, he's just as incompetent as his brother. William and his team did a fantastic job on the redesign of our backyard landscaping. We have a large backyard with huge live oaks that shade out any grass. We had struggled with dead grass and mud for years. We wanted to redo the backyard with some sort of xeriscape. William helped us design a beautiful backyard that was still green and lush with new river stone features, stepping stones, a stone sitting area and crushed granite. The house I brought last year has really narrow side yards. So narrow that I couldn't turn my mower around and getting so little sun that grass wouldn't grow. I called up several landscaping firms to see what I should do. I got all kinds of answers. But William was the one with the best and most elegant solution. We ended up installing a flagstone path that circled one flowerbed and went down the side of the house. This serves as a walkway for guests going to the back patio and an easy way to get the lawnmower from front to back. We installed river rock next to the walkway and on the opposite side yard that gets little to no traffic. The work was done well and on time. William kept in contact with me to let me know next steps and what to expect. It was not the least expensive quote I got. But it's the one that gave the best value. Not impressed. The young man who owns the company came out with his partner to look at my yard and talk about the job. I found his attitude to be a bit rude and off-putting, and my husband felt the same and we are pretty easy going, especially my husband. He just seemed rude and immediately started with "How much do you want to spend?" and quickly informed me that $10,000 wasn't going to get me much. Rather than trying to talk even a little about the project or get a sense of what was important, he jumped in with suggesting rock work, which appears to be their specialty. His partner was very pleasant and polite, but something about this guy's attitude just put me off, so I did not hire him. I will say in his defense that I was delayed on the way home and so he and his partner had to look around outside for almost 15 minutes before I arrived. Maybe that set him off. read more

Complete, 110% honesty is pretty hard to come by in today's world where it seems like most businesses, big or small, are driven by dollar signs. William, thankfully, does not fall in that majority, and because of him, I saved thousands of dollars. I originally noticed that something was wrong when the hardwood floor in my front living room buckled. Being a first time homeowner, I had no idea what was causing it, but the lovely Keri B. and her awesome hubs Randy (Barfield Home Inspections) came to the rescue! Randy figured out that during heavy rains, water would pool in my sloping front flower bed, and just enough water would come through causing the flooring panels on the inside to pop up. The work began from there. After receiving bids from a half dozen landscaping companies and telling them what the problem was, my very last meeting was with William. Like the other landscaping companies, he listened to my concerns, but unlike everyone else who either gave me a bid on the spot or later emailed me a bid, he chose to lose out on a potential couple thousand dollars (i.e., this project) by telling me the truth. "I don't want you to spend your money when you don't need to. I can fix your landscaping and add drains, but that's not addressing the root of your problem. The root of your problem is probably in your foundation. You can have low points and water can pool, but even if it pools, it shouldn't be getting into your house. There shouldn't be any point of entry." Afterwards, I spoke to foundation repair companies and even a few plumbers (to rule out another possible issue). Next, I met with Oliver from Quality Foundation Repair who told me that I needed to waterproof my foundation. While his company didn't do that kind of work, he was helpful and showed me how to find contractors who do. More calls later to waterproofing companies, and I found out that my issue is not uncommon and is a fairly simple, not too pricey fix. After a number of bids we chose Green Ease. This was a great choice. It was such a pleasure working with William and his crew. They were knowledgeable, hard-working- super nice and reasonably priced. My husband and I would hire them again in a heartbeat! William understood what we were asking for right away and gave us some options for our severely overgrown backyard and mud pit. Flooding was a big problem for us and we were already getting some interior damage in our house. Green Ease expanded the patio and sloped it away from the house (as it should have originally), put in a path between the house and the site for a new pavilion that we installed later, dug the holes for the pavilion posts, cleared out trees, shrubs, and vines in a large part of the yard, installed pavers for extensive paths in the natural area, put in some xeriscaping stones with large islands of greenery in the middle. They also planted some bigger trees and shrubs (havign to jackhammer through many feet of limestone!) The whole yard is gorgeous and everyone loves how it looks now. Green Ease seems to specialize in rock work, so I was a little concerned that we wouldn't get the greenery I wanted. I didn't need to worry as William was able to come up with some suggestions for islands that look amazing. They planted a ton of plants and three months later all but two (out of 75) are still alive. I also appreciate that he really listened and was willing to do what we wanted. William's brother also did some great work with our irrigation system and helped retrofit our 30+ year-old system to accommodate the new landscaping. One final thing about their work ethic. I've never seen people work so hard, in all sorts of conditions and be so darn nice. As mentioned before, they enlarged our patio and put new stone down. Unfortunately, they worked through all the horrible rains this fall and the sand between the stones washed out. We met with a few landscapers, but knew pretty quickly that William and his team were the ones for us. So, I waited a week to submit this review. I needed to calm down before I wrote it. I'm going to stick to the facts as best as I can. We contacted William and Green Ease around the middle of July, we met and talked about our project, William had some good input, some of the things the wife and I had planned might not have worked out like we thought, we signed our contract with them July 24th, and paid a more than 50% deposit. At that time we were told four or five days, end of August. I started calling the phone number on our contract leaving messages, the second to last week of August since we hadn't heard anything and we hadn't picked material yet. No reply! About a week later William calls me back, said he had been out of town, and really only answers his cell number, not the one on the contract. At that time, he tells me he was very busy and had a few projects get work added to them so they were running behind. Finally, we get the call to go pick material, we set an appointment for Friday Sept 5th. Some much needed rain came in, another delay. So a start date for Saturday the 12 is set. The wife and I had a trip scheduled to be out of town Sunday to Wednesday of the following week. William and his crew showed up Saturday and started the tear out. William and I went over the project again. This is where I found out if it wasn't written into the contract it wasn't happening. There were a number of things that were discussed during our initial meeting such as picking plants, picking the fill for front flower beds, and tree rings. Unfortunately, it never made it into the written contract, so if we wanted him to do that it would be extra. Wednesday, the 16th we met again with his mason to go over the stonework. We specifically talked about square and level. I come home Thursday at lunch and the masons are running the work following the contour of the ground, not level. William or his mason that was there the day before were not on site. The folks onsite said they would fix it. There are a couple spots on the front beds where you can still see it was "fixed". The three tree rings, which were also supposed to be square and level, were installed without being aligned with each other. Just random angles to each other and the front flower bed. After some heated discussion William had his mason re-do them. Now more weather. The fill that was used for the patio tuned into a soupy mess. Didn't get re-started until October 1st. More miscommunication between William and I, I thought a drip line was getting added for the back flower bed turned into they were just digging the trench. Again, communication problems between William and his mason, the large slabs for the patio were getting installed the wrong direction and setting up for the wrong size patio. If we hadn't said something they would have been set incorrectly. We never knew which crew to expect. Honestly, I think William spent a total of 4 hours on-site. Things we discussed didn't get passed on the whichever crew showed up. Finally done Monday the 4th. So where we ended up, The wife and I have already added a yard of gravel to the back beds, we could still see landscape fabric in places, the gate that they trimmed still did not clear the walk way. We have a stone that is already rocking. The wife and I spent a couple hours every evening they worked to clean up the mess left on the sidewalk, street, and in the grass. The cherry on top, when they finally cleaned up the driveway they destroyed the surface. I can understand a couple scrapes, maybe a few dents. My driveway on a brand new house looks like I've been using it to split fire wood for 15 years. Williams's response "well it happens, what do you want me to do? ... If you're that upset take $200 off the final payment." I would have expected some sort of protection would have been used since they know "it happens". Every time we met, William was always in a hurry and had somewhere else to be. I think for the amount of money we spent, we deserved I little more of his time. Being busy is a good thing, Being too busy to do a good job and supervise your crew is unacceptable. read more

Waste of time. Seems like a nice enough kid, but his communication is terrible. He Rescheduled on me after our initial phone call, ok.. it happens. Then his communication via text was weak and ambiguous. On the initial call I had specifically explained it was a small job, and he had no issue with it. He even mentioned how smaller repairs are usually a few hundred bucks, which is exactly what i was looking for. Then when he finally came out and looked at the work, and wanted to sell me a full redo of the patio because he doesn't do small jobs, and it would be a 6-8 week wait for him to start anyway. Failed to mention any of that in our initial call. He may be a good mason, but he doesn't communicate, and wasted a week of my time when i could have been finding another contractor. UPDATE: The owner called me to discuss the review, sort of apologized, and asked that i change my review. I'm not opposed to that at all... we're all human of course... But he wasn't friendly about it. in fact he was accusatory and made it seem like it was all my fault, and that he did me a favor by even coming to look at it. He made no effort to refer me to anyone else (As he claims in his response below). If he really cares about his Yelp star rating which he seems to, and is part of the reason i called him in the first place, then maybe he should try treating the customer better. read more

First, I would like to say that William and his staff were friendly and respectful before and during the project. We hired this company to install a fenced dog-run along the side of our house, a rock path along the fence in our backyard, a rock path leading from the deck to the dog run, and a french drain leading from the backyard to the front yard. The rock path along the fence was well constructed with a border of stone holding the rock in. This is the part of the job we are most happy with. William's guy that did the stone border did a great job. However, soon after, grass started growing through the rock, so much so that in some parts you couldn't see a rock path. Although they placed a weed shield down they must not have killed the grass well enough and my husband and I spent hours pulling weeds. The french drain was well constructed and has helped our flooding issue; however, it seems that more of a decline would have helped because we noticed some pooling of water inside the pipe. The dog-run was a great idea and has allowed us to enjoy our yard. The dogs love it, miniature schnauzers, by the way. They especially love that they can push the gate open themselves because the fence was POORLY constructed (not built to last). Days after installation we noticed the fence and gate were leaning and loose. The latch to close the gate does not work because the gate and fence no longer meet in the same place. My husband has not had the time to remove, rebuild, and reinstall the fence, so it's pretty much useless at this point. That's $400 down the drain for a very small fence that doesn't do the job of a fence. Lastly, my husband drew up our backyard and the location of all the sprinkler heads, so that the crew could make sure to not cover them up with the weed shield and rocks. Despite that, we spent some time afterwards locating many of the heads, cutting through the weed shield and making sure there was a clear path for them to pop up. My husband tried calling William after the project was complete to share some of his concerns but never received a response. Unfortunately, this landscaping project required a lot of work for us after the job was done. read more

William recreated our entire backyard beautifully! He gave us 2 rock patio areas and covered one with a pergola. He also provided us with drought tolerable landscaping that even we can manage with our busy schedule. His group of men were all extremely polite and even worked around our big friendly dog. The outcome is a wonderful transformation to a relaxing backyard that we can enjoy for years to come. William also stands behind his work and will fix any problems or concerns that may arise. The side of our house never really grew grass (although we tried everything) so we decided to bite the bullet and have DG put down with a nice rock border, William's idea. William is amazing!! We just moved into our home this past November and the previous owners did not seem to care about the yard...it was hideous..and our dog came back with the little burs stuck to her and in between her paws...just horrible. I called Green Ease, they came out the same day and gave me a quote. William worked with my schedule and even deciding what we could accomplish with the price I was able to pay. I only wish I could have them do the entire yard! They were done in 2 days time before the rain hit-which moved some gravel around. I would give them more stars if it was possible. William who owns the company came out got our budget, found out what we wanted and made it work from concept to finish. Everyone that works for him are polite and extremely hard workers and did a great job in communicating with me daily about the going ons. They worked in literally freezing cold weather. It is difficult to find a company that can do it all from masonry, landscaping, pretty much everything. That was one of the reasons we chose them. We went with William when the time came to pick our stone and we went together to the nursery to pick our our plants. Couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience. Can't say enough good things about our experience with Green Ease Landscaping. We had some general ideas about what we wanted to do in our front and back yards, but William came in and had the experience, creativity and vision to know exactly what to do. He, and Bud and Barney and the entire crew went above and beyond to make sure we were happy, offering ideas (even if it meant more work for them) and graciously working with us on a few minor changes at the end. Don't bother calling unless you have a major renovation job to do. They are not interested in any other type of work. Makes it hard to get a medium size job done when contractors only want jobs where they can charge big bucks. I have experienced this with tile contractors as well, but this is one of the first landscaping contractors that would't even bother to come give me an estimate. read more

Had a great experience with William and his crew. They put in a stone border, plants and sod in my backyard, and a larger stone flower bed, sod and river rock in my front yard. William came out to discuss my ideas and translated it all into a written contract. He stayed in contact throughout the entire process, which I really appreciate.
