Came here for them to do my brakes. They did them and the warped within 2 weeks. I brought it back and they turned them, they warped again. After that, they told me my shocks were blown and that's why it keeps going bad. I took my car to another mechanic (Vick's Expertune) and they replaced the rotors with OEM from Lexus. Those have been fine for 6 months. My guess is they sourced cheap, inferior rotors. Vick's also looked at my shocks and they're fine. Austin's Automotive lied to cover their poor work and parts. I will never go here again and tell anyone who asks to avoid it. read more

I went in to get my tires aligned because I just had my rear tires replaced, and AAS's wheel alignment costs are very competitive. That is the only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1. I received a courtesy diagnostic report and was told my car required a "Throttle Body Cleaning," which ran about $200. I drive a German sports car with several thousand miles on it, so I figured better safe than sorry. Well, I called my BMW service advisor to inform him of the work done on my car so he could update my client info in his system, he informed me that the "Throttle Body Cleaning" was "bogus," adding that "your car is a direct inject engine, you can't do a throttle body cleaning on your car" (words in quotes were copied and pasted from his email). I googled "Throttle Body Cleaning Scam" and there are literally an infinite number of sites and forums warning how it is VERY COMMON for irreputable car workshops to insist upon this specific service even though virtually no one needs it. Seriously, Google "Throttle Body Cleaning Scam." I am not sure what I paid $200 for, since apparently the service I received isn't even possible on my car. Now I'm a reasonable person and I understand people make honest mistakes... If a representative from AAS is willing to reach out to me or respond to this review and offer a refund, it would be most appreciated. Otherwise, AAS seems to be just another scammy auto repair shop. I feel particularly duped because I felt like the employees were very nice... it appears they were being more 'manipulative' than 'nice,' but that will be determined based on how/if they reply to this post. read more

My front drivers side tire was loosing air. I took my car back to Discount tire where I bought it. They admitted that someone had put the lug nuts back on wrong and had to order them. This was Thursday. The lug nuts arrived Friday, but Discount could not fix the lug nuts to get to the tire, so they sent me to Austin Automotive Specialist. I called this one on Friday and they said I could bring it in Saturday around mid day. The man on the phone was pleasant , somewhat humorous and professional. I took my car in Saturday. Inspite of obviously having alot of work and one of the mechanics having a family emergency which made them be even more short staffed Billy came to the rescue. He repaired it himself and got me out of there in under 2 hours. I appreciate the customer service and kindness with which I was treated. read more

On February 13th at 9 a.m. my dad went to buy 4 new tires. They were able to replace the 2 rear tires but the front lugs were stuck so the shop he was at referred him to Austin Automotive Specialists. Their he spoke with Doug who assured they could get the job done for $64 per side and it was right up the street. They tried to to remove the lugs but with no success. Their tools could not remove the lugs so Doug then came back  and stated they could try another  option which required " a little heat" for $120 with a "LITTLE" damage to the rim. My dad questioned them over and over about possible damage but they assured him that everything would be OK with a LITTLE  possible damage. So my dad agreed. Next my dad sees flames on his tires coming from a blow torch so he questions Doug again. With no answers he goes to the tech who says he does this all the time. My dad asked if they use a backsplash or anything to protect more of the wheel but the tech responded no and kept burning. My dad in shock calls the police but they would not come out saying it's a civil matter. My dad then calls his lawyer and tells Doug that he no longer wishes for AAS to service the other side of his truck. They melted 3 studs, the whole rim and had no way of replacing them saying the parts will be in tomorrow. My dad asked Doug how was he going to go anywhere without lugs (he only came for a tire change). Doug responded "That's not my problem". My dad then walked back to the tire shop where bought his tires  to tell about the lack of care for his vehicle and share pictures of the damage. While away Doug calls back and says the truck is ready. They added some makeshift bolts and then charged my dad $365 for only one side. He still has to replace his rims which is going to be an additional estimated $800! My dad was totally displeased with the communication and job that was performed at AAS. These people are CROOKS!!!!!! at least this location. I'm not done yet. He spoke with two professionals from two different shops they both said that it's not safe to drive his vehicle because of possible unknown damage done to the inside of his wheel.  But Doug kept saying over and over that the Integrity of the tire is still good. I took my Toyota Rav4 in on a Saturday afternoon. After sitting outside Toyota's service department and not being helped because they were swamped. We opted to go across the street. They looked up exactly what my car needed, and got the oil changed in a few hours. On top of being very friendly and fast, they were very reasonably priced. Usually spending a couple hundred when I take my car to Toyota for maintenance, I spent less than $70. They are now my go-to location and will be using them for future service on my Rav4 and any cars I get in the future. 10/10 would recommend. read more

This is by far the best mechanic shop I have been to in Austin. Everywhere in the city is riddled with 1 star reviews so this joint stuck out to me. I called yesterday and asked if they had time for an oil change and the man on the phone went to check, and let me know I could come immediately and be serviced! Turned out that person was shop manager Forrest. He was extremely friendly, professional, and funny. He told the truth, helped me out, and got me taken care of. This was one of the most spectacularly dumb conversations I've ever had. I made an appointment for an alignment and came on time. They said they were backed up an hour and a half. I said, "Okay, that happens. I'll come back in an hour and half." The dude at the counter was like, "Well, the wait may be longer then." We went back and forth for five minutes about how I was there, mark me present, help whoever is ahead of me, and then I will come back when you're ready... The guy seemed unable to grasp the concept that I could go down the street and do some shopping while I wait for them to fulfill the appointment they could not keep. It was as if I needed to be physically present in the waiting room wasting my morning for me to be in line. Eventually I just gave up and waited because I needed the work done that day. They blatantly violate ADA law. I went in to get my wheels aligned. They refused service because my vehicle had adaptive equipment installed and said that they don't want the liability. Discrimination is discrimination, no matter the excuse. I went down the street to Firestone Auto Care, and they serviced the vehicle with no issues whatsoever. Furthermore, I left a review on their website and it never showed. My guess is they have control over which reviews are posted. So I wouldn't trust their reviews. And I know they did see it because shortly after my post they called me, not to make things better or apologize, but instead got on my case about leaving a negative review and kept saying I was lying. read more

This was the worst experience I had at a mechanic's shop. They were rude and short with me. Not an enjoyable experience and definitely hostile. They required my car to stay for 24hours for an A/C check. The manager was haughty and rude. I definitely DO NOT recommend. One time they fixed a finicky door panel for no charge. They have been professional in their work and personable in their dealings with us. I only give two stars because this Mike jokester fixed the work his team did wrong the first time free of charge. This is the most sexist, ill mannered, inconsiderate, and unprofessional mechanic I've ever dealt with. After our initial experience I refused to ever speak to him again. I went in because his shop was covered under my warranty plan and I needed a new heating core. I called on a Wednesday afternoon. He said he would be able to start at 8 am the next day. That worked so I dropped it off immediately. On Thursday he quoted me two days (after trying to nickel and dime me for unnecessary work) but that was still okay. We can figure out a one car situation for two days. 5 business days later I call. I'm obviously irritated now. He laughs me off. I'm not surprised. Tells me my car is ready. A call would have been nice, but at least my husband doesn't have to ride the bus to work today so whatever. The minute I drive off the lot two lights that I've never seen before come on. I assumed that it was because the work required the entire dash to be removed and they would reset after I drove for awhile. They didn't. When my husband took it back he said, "It's probably because she was speeding off so fast. I don't know why she was so mad at me." That's funny. #1: The shop is on a narrow stretch of the 183 access road. It's pretty impossible to get out of without finding a window and getting there quick. #2: I've never had my dashboard and steering panel literally fall off because I merged into traffic. #3: We've been ride sharing for 6 (albeit 5 business days) when you quoted me 2 and you top that all off by acting like a grade A jerk! By the way. If you listened rather than talk over people you would know that it was my father in law that was going to look at the work you claimed I needed. I don't have an "uncle" as you mentioned in your notes. Avoid at ALL costs! read more

This has been our go-to mechanic shop for over a year and we've always received honest, transparent and quality service. There have been times where we have costly fixes to pay for and other times they'll call us and say, "I'd hold off on this fix, come get your car no charge." They sell you fixes you need, not ones that pad their pockets. Every time we bring one of our two cars here, we know we are getting a great deal because we aren't paying for things we don't need. We typically drop our cars off first thing Saturday and they call us with a report and estimate by noon or so, depending on the problem. Thanks guys! read more

I don't want to overthink this, so I'll just tell you what happened: 1. The air conditioning in my car stopped. This ain't gonna fly in August. 2. I make an appointment with my dealer, and get there to discover my car warranty has expired. So I pay a $59.50 diagnostic fee to learn my A/C can be fixed for $1200. I want a second opinion. 3. I pay Brake Specialists an $89.95 diagnostic fee, and learn my A/C can be fixed for $700. I say do it. The new blower will be delivered Saturday morning. I'll have to bring my car in Saturday and wait a half-hour while they replace it. 4. I bring my car in Saturday. The blower had not been delivered. I need to return Monday. 5. On Monday, the blower is there, they're installing it, but discover some resistor controlling the blower is melted. A new one will cost $250, but can be delivered and installed while I'm still there waiting. I say do it. 6. It arrives within an hour. But it's the wrong one. The right one for my car has to be overnighted from somewhere. They'll call me when it arrives. 7. I get called Tuesday afternoon. But I just didn't have the time to fuck with this Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday. 8. On Thursday I call them, everything is ready, they have a bay waiting, and I was in and out in forty-five minutes. The air conditioning in my car now works perfectly. So yeah, I figure I'm still about $200 ahead from the original dealer estimate, but I'm not feeling it's the best $200 I've ever saved. Know what I mean? Six-of-one and a half-dozen of another. We'll just chalk this one up as another day in the life, and merrily move on with ourselves. read more

I came in at 4pm on a day that they close at 530pm. The guys were cool in getting me in and out. I told them I just wanted to get my brake fluid drained/flushed. I wasn't expecting it, but then they asked why - and I told them it had been awhile, my mileage as well. They said no problem and it was done. Sometimes you expect people to try to sell you everything and an add on. I got in and out in 30 minutes. They said things looked fine. No dirty looks or anything when I used a coupon either. They also had free wifi there while I waited. Topping it off, it has been a week. I wasn't think of writing a review, but Billy gave me a call just to check up on how things were doing. Talk about adding value. You really don't rave about these places often, but I've gotta give props to them for helping me out and treating me like a person - even when it's not worth more money to them. read more

Clearly, your employee's behavior is encouraged, or you were misled on what happened. Good to know. ***** My gripe is not with the work performed, but the treatment i received. I do want to thank the technician for completing the work promptly. I actually came to get something out of my Jeep and the tech himself showed me my old axle bearing and was very polite. Working in automotive myself I know how awesome that is. I also know how you should treat your customers and their concerns. The tech went the extra mile. My issue is with Mike Riley. I had a wheel seal blow out on my Jeep Wrangler. It was one that had been installed previously by AAS so I thought I would take it there just in case it turned into a warranty issue. Long story short it did end up being my fault. Ok no problem. In the process however my warranty company had told me it was either my lack of maintenance or the seal that was installed. I actually had my own shop foreman come with me to assess the damage. I was trying to determine my next step. I asked my foreman if it possibly could have been the seal. That is when the literal screaming started from Mike. No not yelling, he was SCREAMING in my face. I tried several times to calm him down enough to understand I wasn't trying to blame them, I was trying to make sense out of what my warranty company told me. He refused to take the single minute it would have been to hear me out. Through this process he did his best to belittle my own automotive knowledge, which really irritates me. I'm not a master technician, but I am knowledgeable enough that you don't have to dumb it down for me. Been in the industry now for a while. I finally said screw it and left. I did realize after getting back to my shop and consulting my foreman, that yeah, it was probably my fault it blew. I'm not denying that. This is a conclusion that could have been achieved if Mike had the patience to hear out his customers concerns. Instead I was screamed at. Even my shop foreman was shocked at the way Mike handled everything. It was uncalled for. Later I get a call from him, irate, I needed to give him an answer so it can get off his lift. $1600 repair. Fine, whatever, get it done. Again I know it sucks to have a lift tied up. I tell him i will figure out how to pay it, just get it done. (I didn't have the funds at the time) Later he calls and tells me it's done. Ok awesome. I'll come get it as soon as I figure out how to pay it. "You're not getting it today?" No, I don't have the money at the moment, let me figure something out. AGAIN another argument in which he then started threatening me with an $8 per day storage fee. This is not visibly posted (at least not at the time of the repair), I didn't see anything on the actual paperwork I signed. (It didn't take me that long to get a solution) I have no problem with the quality of the repair itself, but unfortunately due to the behavior of Mike Riley I will not be returning. I feel for the shop owner and the technicians working there and wish them the best of luck. I'm sure I'm not the only person to not come back because of that single person. read more

I emailed this company for a quote to replace four brake pads and resurface the rotors on the front axle.. I also wanted to know the cost to install an air filter. I was told that it is too hard to provide a quote without taking measurements even though I provided the year, make and model of my car. I did not experience this when speaking with other local shops when I was deciding where to go. To be fair, I don't know what they charge or how good the work is- but the lack of transparency when they have all the information they need seems shady. read more

I am new to Austin and I just recently purchased a vehicle. I realized it needed some additional work after I purchased it (which I was not very happy about) and I was referred to Austin's Automotive Specialists. I called and spoke with Jason about scheduling a time for me to bring my car in. Jason is very friendly and has great customer service skills. When I dropped the car off, Mike greeted that morning when I dropped it off. I explained to him the issue I was having and assured me that he and the guys would take care of it for me. I called later that morning to check on the issue and was given the estimate. I picked my car up that afternoon and it was running beautifully. The car was clean, the seat was still in the same location that I sit in, and the radio was on the same station, the mirrors in the same place and plastic on the driver's seat. The entire process of dealing with Austin's Automotive was painless and seamless. Checking in and checking out was simple. The guys were friendly and professional, the waiting room is clean, the lot and work space is neat and picked up. I would recommend calling Mike and Jason for any repairs for your vehicle. Mike Riley, Manager, was very helpful. After getting tires rotated at Discount Tire, they referred me to Austin's Automotive Specialists for an alignment. I had been hearing road noise and hoped this would be the solution. With Mikes assistance, it was determined that a hub assembly would need to be replaced and this was a warranty item. He could have continued to do the alignment but recommended I first get the hub at Chevrolet and then bring it back for the alignment. I did exactly that. I could have never come back and simply had the dealer do the alignment but felt like I owed it to Mike. The noise is fixed. This place is trash, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME GOING HERE. The "MANAGER" is extremely disrespectful, childish, and should not have any authority over any store. Extremely unprofessional. I drove up to a bay door, and was wanting an oil change, and the "MANAGER" never told me I couldn't park where I was parked. He told me he would be inside to greet me, I said ok, and walked inside. He got inside and asked if I was joking, I replied and said about what? He said is that where your going to park, I said all I need is an oil change. He promptly declined my oil changed and told me to get off his property. This guy is immature and has a mind of a kid. We sat in the parking lot, and argued. Terry one of his employees, was very polite and asked me to leave. So I did. This place is off research and 183 north Austin. I regret coming here, that guy ruined my day. This place should have rethink who they have in charge. Sad to see such great human beings dealing with a guy like him. read more
