Hello Yelpers. I am a tanner and have gone to many tanning salons in my time. Some push products so hard they are pushing me out the door before I sign up. Some are gossipy and when a customer is walking out the door they are talking about that particular persons hair or outfit. Let me tell you, Australian Tan is none of those kind of salons. It is not pretentious, snobby or dirty. It is always clean. From the moment you walk in the door and approach the counter you are surrounded with cleanliness and smiles. The customer service in this store deserves higher than a 5 star rating. They are helpful, know their products, they are sooo not pushy to get you to buy things, they smile and ask you about your day, Brittney even noticed I had just highlighted my hair (and not one of my girlfriends had even noticed!) The staff is hardworking, I have never seen any of them stand around doing nothing or filing their nails. They are always busy cleaning the beds, checking in customers, stocking product, etc. They have a large range of beds from the Matrix, stand up beds, mystic tan spray tanning. They have it all. Plus, if you want to just try them out you can print "Tan a Week for Free" from their website. How cool is that? I have never even received one tan for free much less a week. That is how confident they are that you will return. If you are looking for a tanning salon - look no further. I do have another comment regarding the salon staff. They have an adorable worker named Brittney who is the sweetest, brightest, most knowledgeable about the beds and products, and she is extremely outgoing and makes going there fun. All I can say if I still owned my retail business that I had years ago, I would have stole Brittney from you guys! (Sorry...) But yes, she is that good. I always feel uncomfortable going to salons because of the gossip and rudeness that I find I don't do the things like tanning like I use to. But one day with Brittney as my rep, I felt like I was at home. I relaxed and actually listened to what she had to say. She is an asset to your company and I hope she is rewarded for her professionalism and her outgoing spirit making everyone who steps through the door feel at home and when they leave to go home I am sure they leave with a smile on their face thinking of what an adorable young lady she is. Ok, so my husband and I love the bed number 20 (high pressure bed). There used to be the same one in Palo Alto, but that salon closed down and this is the only identical bed that anyone has in a 25m radius. And yes, we where driving for the past 6 months, at least 3 times a months to get to it (25min drive from where we live). Even that it wasn't as clean as we would like it to be, we kept going. Then about two months ago, we paid for 6 sessions each. In those 6 times we went, twice we got there and there was someone in the bed before us. So we waited, only to realize that it is a girl who is working there!!! Seriously, you have to use the bed in the middle of your shift and let us, paying customers wait??!! And our last time going there, the same girl, sitting in the middle of the room eating her burger and fries spread across the waiting area. The whole place smell like fast food restaurant. It was seriously out of order. It was anyway painful for us to drive there, but this girl really made us dislike this place, to the point that we decided not to go back. Also, those beds are not cleaned properly. As soon as we sign up for the first time, we got an email asking if we were satisfied and I did said that beds are clean for two seconds, with the same towel and they don`t look clean at all. There are streaks on that bed, from cleaning product, or dirty towel that they are using over and over to clean all the beds... I guess when you employ young kids to work; there is no way that they will care about the place, even though most of them are very nice and polite. This place needs some serious shake up. Until we see here on yelp that there been drastic changes we are not going back there. read more

I just joined the First Class Membership this month and am loving it!!! There are so many things you can do here, and everything just makes you feel like you're on a relaxing get-away! And to top that off, you end up leaving looking and feeling great! I have to give a special compliment to CAITLYN. She really puts the customer FIRST! I had to wait one time for a few minutes, &it got super busy there &I watched her just handle everybody like a pro. So friendly &professional &quickly got everybody through in a timely fashion. Even at 9pm, which is closing time, she made sure that everybody got finished with what they were there for while she was cleaning up &getting ready to close. She makes you feel like you're an Important Customer, not to mention that she's a breath of fresh air. (Unlike the one other girl that was working one night when I was there. Not sure of her name, but she seemed very uncaring of the customers, and practically kicked me out two minutes before 9, saying that she was just trying to get out of there, as she swept and talked garbage about the customers to her boyfriend who was hanging out there. The worst part for me was that she checked me in for all three treatments I'd requested, but then in the end made me skip one without telling me first. And the one she made me skip was the main one I was there for and desperately needed before going out of town the next day. Completely unacceptable. She definitely should've given me the choice of which one to skip, if necessary. I just hope I don't have to see her again!) I use the spray tan machine. I had a membership many years ago and it worked fine then. Now the spray tan machine does not give you even coverage, had to use a instant tan lotion at home to even out my color (spots and stripes). The girls and guys at the front desk are very nice and polite, hence the 2 stars for this place. Just cancelled the membership that I got 6 or so months ago. Cancelling was kind of a pain. First off, you have to go in there to get a small form to fill out that you have to mail to their corporate office, oh and make sure it's post marked by the 14 of the month or you get charged for the following month, like really? Dear Yelpers, Australian tanners, here is my story that you should read before you gonna sign up with this company.I would give a zero,but it's not an option here unfortunately, but i hope i can point out why i decided to do this here, and even sue this unprofessional company.I was their customer for more than 4 years, i have seen many many people /kids/ come and go in their stuff, many of them was really questionable, i guess it was their first job or just summer job in their life,so what do you expect from this company, or kids?I was lucky because i got to know two of them, that was pretty nice,of course the owner, and all the amateur management couldn't keep them. So i am doing this horrible review one of their ex employee's advice on the top of sue them too.This place is most of the time dirty, I do not wanna talk about the restroom, especially they closed it down for the customers, so this place is operating without a restroom, illegally, and if you need to use it...they send you next door, where all the homeless people do their businesses..but the stuff using it.So if you are regular there, you can notice there is only one dirty towel that they are using over and over to clean all the beds...and here is my HIGHLIGHTED PART, WHERE I GOT MY INFECTION FORM THIS PLACE....NO LIE I HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTS, AND MEDICAL EVIDENCE TO PROVE EVEN PICTURES THAT I WILL UPLOAD, OR TRY, BUT I GUESS THEY WILL PUT MAXIMUM EFFORT TO REMOVE THEM FOR SURE, SO JUST CHECK MY PROFILE PIC, I WILL UPLOAD ONE THERE TOO, THEY WON'T BE ABLE TO TOUCH THAT FOR SURE.So i needed a surgery, and i have been told i was just hours away to get this infection into my blood, and if that would have got to my heart i wouldn't type this review now.You could ask why i didn't sue them earlier, and why i was keep going there after?? My reason was was Stephanie, she changed everything, she made that place clean, and professional, and we became friends too...trust me she made a huge difference, just go there again, and will see, because she isn't there anymore, and the place since then a massive chaos. The new kids what they did was unacceptable, everybody was complaining about them, even the older employees. I will upload pics of them too, that pics technically they took of each other and posted on social media. Where they acted as prostitutes, and in the saloon too...They were on their phones all the time, didn't even looked up, the cleaning was a huge issue again...few of them was sitting on the floor, they spoke to me like we are best friends, and suddenly changed, and you couldn't even look at them. Few hours before closing time, already shoot the lights off, and pretended to be closed, because they didn't want customers in the saloon...they didn't set up the beds properly, so i had to dress up again come out tell them to start the machine, and go back and undress again.My last incident was about a new girl, if you have been there recently you must ran into her, because she was the only one there besides the new manager, you can't miss her, she is super tall look like a giraffe blond and very annoying. So she is the one who caused a big issue for me, and this unprofessional company decided instead of offering to use their other saloon, or let the girl go, who is gonna be there one more week only, she is there for summer only and go back to a different state, so they decided to let me go, but it wasn't this polite, they said i am no longer welcomed there after more than 4 years, paying their membership for those at least 10 years old if not more than 15 years old beds....that we all know, it doesn't matter how old if the bulbs are changed regularly....but guys here is the fact...they changed it maybe 2 times through more than 4 years...so going there every day barely gave me color, trust me if you turn your light on at home and stand underneath you will get more color for free, rather than pay a lot of money for these amateurs.So back to my story about the giraffe, I just gonna cut it short not because i wanna skip parts out of it...but you can get the point this way too...So i was just nice to her, trust me she is not even my type, and i could be her father, so i was in the rush, and i couldn't wait until she finish her story, so i gave her my card and said i am sorry i didn't wanna be rude running away but i got a job, and i had to go pick the person up, but if you want to we can go somewhere and you can finish your story, we both from Europe i thought she was excited as me, especially because she said sure smiling like crazy. But next day i received a warning from corporate, because this giraffe reported me. Next time i said to her that i think you owe me apology, and she called the manager and said i am harassing her, and they fired me next day. I was asking her if she has a problem with me why didn't tell me? What do you expect from a girl with no brain. Don't talk to her she calls the police on you or corporate. read more

Staff seemed to be personally offended that I didn't want to join their membership! All I need is a few tans to get rid of some tan lines. If I want to pay more to do that vs the value membership..so be it. Don't judge. Once they knew I wasn't interested in a membership they shrugged me off and didn't even show me how to use the equipment. Would have spent some decent money here but not now. I will go somewhere else with better staff. read more

This location opened up in August, and i switched to this location from the saratoga one. so far i'm enjoying the new equipments here and the workers here seem more professional. it is in the same plaza as safeway and rite aid. overall this place just seems more relaxing than the saratoga one. read more

This place is great! Most of the girls working here are very sweet and they have always taken the time to help me out with anything that I need. The first time I did the spray tanning, the girl working was more than happy to take me through the process step by step and answer all my "crazy" questions. This place has always been very clean and I have never had any problems with my skin. Prices here are also very reasonable. It is always worth the extra money to go in the higher level beds. I am very happy with this place and wont tan anywhere else! read more

This is by far the worse tanning salon I've ever been to! For outrageous $75 a month, one would expect great quality and service. No! The one and only time the staff was friendly is when I signed up! After that, all my questions had been answered with "I dont know" or one word answer. I was sold expired tanning lotion! Im left with brown spots on my forehead and cheeks thanks to unexperienced staff and strong UV light beds. After freezing my account for the winter for only $5 a month, I got charged $20 "cleaning fee" twice without anyone even telling me whats that charge for! I canceled my membership and never going back! I've been with salons for half the price twice the service!!!! read more

After going to the Australian Tanning Company for over a year I decided to buy some tanning products. I was not only impressed by the friendly staff that new their products, but my tanning has gone to a completely different level. I don't need to go in as frequent as the J-Wow juice does exactly what it says it does. The beds are always clean and the staff super friendly. Highly recommend! read more

This is a nice/clean tanning salon. I have been going for the spray tans in the Versa Spa. I really like the Versa Spa. The tan comes out really natural and not streaky...like some spray tans have given me before. I feel Australian Tan is competitive with their pricing and they offer many specials and Groupons as well. I snagged an awesome Groupon...3 spray tans for $24.95. This location is great! Brittany is so informative and helpful. She remembers my name even when it's been a while since I've been in to tan. The entire staff is very friendly and personable. I don't use the beds, I only spray tan and I have to say it's the best spray tanner I've ever used. It results in a nice, even golden-brown color that doesn't fade easily. The spray booths aren't good. Very un even application. My first time doing it (usually have an actual person do it) which I get it's not going to be AS even but this was bad. I even put the solution lotion stuff on my hands so the spray wouldn't adhere much to my hands and used hand sanitizer after and for some reason that was the darkest part of my body still. Also there are directions in the booths that seem pretty simple, but the actual spray doesn't match how many poses there is to do in my opinion. Lastly, I had questions about product and memberships and the person working just seem un interested in explaining anything to me, wasn't rude, but not very helpful. Definitely don't recommend coming here, better off self tanning at home or going to a spray specialist. read more

This tanning salon has been the only one I've ever gone to and felt comfortable! The staff here is so incredibly nice, helpful, and patient. I got a spray tan and was so happy with the results. I got the level 2 and saw a huge color difference in my skin. The place was super clean and I was pleased with the service! WOULD PUT A ZERO IF I COULD. Went in for a spray tan. First time getting one. It didn't work. Washed off right away except for like polka dots. Told them about it. The manager comped me another spray. I had to then spend another $* for a packet of some evening lotion. That tan didn't even so much as tint my skin. Called again. They said the manager would call me in which she didn't call, had guest services call. They told me basically too bad nothing we can do. THEY TOOK MY MONEY AND I GOT NOTHING!!!! I also tried this location, along with a few others, and this place was having all kinds of problems. Radio NEVER works, staff is unpleasant and not very friendly or welcoming, and corporate is so bad with communicating! The location is horrible, the parking lot is OVERLY crowded in an area where your car will have high risk to get hit! Again, this location is pretty, but it looks like they re-use towels! read more

Be very careful of this place. They practice unethical business practices by billing for more services after the term of contrtact. They say it's all in the signed openended contract. Sorry when I sign a 1 month contract, I want one month of services not a follow on bill at 40% more than I paid for the one month. I will be taking them to small claims, it's not so much the money but the unethical business practice they use. The store manager even told me to my face that it was an openended contract when I went in to object. As a contract manager I would have deleted anything that referenced any reference to openended anything. She did not tell be, can't prove it so it's my word against theirs but contracts are my profession. Anyone else have this problem? Maybe it's time for BBB and an ethical lawsuit. read more

I am originally from Michigan, and was on the hunt for a reasonably priced tanning salon since most in the area are over priced. I tried Tropical Tan Company in Mountain View (went out of business and was sketchy), and Sole Di Paradiso (which had great beds, but CRAZY over priced) off El Camino Real, before finding Australian Tanning Company on-line. I wanted to get the darkest tan, without breaking the bank. I found the tanning salon on google, and was greeted by a girl behind the counter named Sheila, and her friendly male coworker that seemed really knowledgeable and was great about answering all my questions. I ended up buying a 1 month unlimited tanning package, but I opted for the high pressure bed package. The sign up fee was $49, and then you pay $60 for the unlimited tanning access, which brought my total for the month to $110. They also have an option for a 30 day unlimited pass with no commitment for $120. You can sign up for different membership commitments that lower your sign up fee. They offer 1 month, 6 month, or 12 month contracts. I went tanning in one of the really high pressure beds, called the "Open Sun 1050, and thought the results were worth the money I spent. The bed was really high quality, and so were the bulbs. The bulbs were large and circular, as opposed to the tube bulbs your used to. It even has an ipod docking station so you can listen to your own mix through the beds speakers which I thought was a nice touch. The only downside I would say to this salon, is that you have to mail in some card 15 days before you want to cancel your membership, or else they charge your credit card again the following month. Which is slightly inconvenient, but overall I really enjoyed myself, and I thought it was worth the cash I spent! Great tan, great staff, and great experience. A+ read more

Great tanning salon! It's clean and the staff are both friendly and helpful. I only go in to use the Airbrush Tanning Machines and they have the most current ones on the market which are awesome!!! Beautiful color (no weird orange) and very even coverage. Great location and easy parking as well:) If you're looking for a great looking not to mention affordable airbrush tan you should DEF give this place a try!!! read more

Clean facility and convenient hours. I usually don't have to wait for a bed. However, on my first visit, I was presented with several (too many) membership plans, some of which seemed to be made up on the fly. Since I'm not a traditional tanner and am only hoping to prime my skin before my impending Hawaiian vacation, it would be nice to see an option to pay for one tan or 2 tans, or 6 tans. Why membership? Overall, I'm pleased with the facility and would revisit as needed in the future. read more

Both girls working were very nice to me and the one girl who helped me was very helpful. she told me and waited for me to get a voucher so I could get the deal for extremely cheap. First time at Australian and have to give a shout out to Claire at the front desk for all of her help. My last experience with a spray tan was not a positive one and I was a little nervous but Claire made me feel comfortable and was extremely attentive!
