While…read morethe cause of my leak seems to be resolved (at least for now) it did bother me that I took the time to ask several times with the dispatcher "Taneea"(sp) and she said there was no fee to diagnose and I kept asking are you sure because in order to see where the leak is coming from my bathroom upstairs from the shower and where it settling we need to look at the pipes underneath where the drywall is and that involves cutting the ceiling drywall. And I asked her again several times if there's any charge for leak tracing or anything she was leaving out just to look and see before repairing and she said no, there's no diagnostic charge. They get here and tell me it's gonna be $125 just to cut the drywall and I just don't understand how there can be such a disparity between what I verified by phone and what I was being told now. And even if I give them the benefit of the doubt that the dispatcher was mistaken (though that's something very strange for a dispatcher who works for and represents a company to say, if not true) the fact that she did tell me that clearly, you would think to keep a customer they would stand by their own word, so not a great first impression. I still paid them $455 to change the cartridge in my shower, but they would not take five or ten minutes to cut up two 6"x6" holes in the drywall and look inside to see if there's any other extensive damage or leaking. I may just leave it for now and keep an eye for any signs of staining or moisture rather than deal with drywall repair. I still will inspect around the electrical where the ceiling fan canopy is and remove it from the ceiling to see if there's any water damage to the fan and light fixture or if it can be salvaged and still works once all is dry and I can restore power to the room. But they refused to look for any signs below to ensure there were no other signs of a leak unless I paid more. Another thing is with a large hole behind the shower faucet escutcheon where the leak occurred what's to keep another cartridge from failing and leaking right down into the room below and getting into the electrical and drywall and ruining another ceiling fan? I wish they'd have taken the time to tell me how to seal off that wall behind the faucet handle or given me suggestions but they just kind of did their job and left. They didn't offer me any advice or tips to prevent this again or set my mind at ease, and taking the time to do that would have made me feel more "taken care of" and built a rapport as a new customer. They just wanted to do the job I asked and go. So while I have no other complaints so far, they didn't go the extra mile or make me feel reassured at all for such a serious issue. It was just a "job" to cross of their list and not spend a second longer than necessary to show, discuss or reassure.

I received several responses with quotes, and Desert Water Plumbing and Rooter was the first company to reach out. I contacted them around 5 PM on Wednesday, and they were able to schedule a free estimate for Friday. Dan Burke showed up right on time. He was professional, efficient, and easy to talk to. Like the other companies I spoke with, he recommended repiping as the best solution for the long run. He gave me an estimate for the project and also mentioned that if the office couldn't schedule the repair on Monday, he could stop by to do a quick temporary fix to stop the leak and then come back when they could finish the job. I really appreciated that because I don't like wasting water. The price Dan quoted was also very reasonable compared to the other companies. After thinking it over, I decided to go with Desert Water Plumbing and Rooter and called the office to schedule the appointment. They weren't able to do the repipe on Monday but scheduled it for Tuesday. Dan did come by on Monday to help temporarily stop the leak. He had me go to Lowes (online) and order the replacement unit, so I wasn't paying a markup from the installer. He picked up the unit from Lowes and just charged for the install. The advantage in this is you can chose the unit you want by quality and price. Units with longer warranties will cost more, probable between 6 to 12 years, so you get to decide what best for you without a installer charging a big markup. I was able to was my military discount for 10 % off. Another advantage is you are the one purchasing the unit. If there is a problem with the unit in the future you can go back to the manufacturer or Lowes (who I have found to be very good at backing up their sales). If your installer provides the unit he may not be in business in 9 to 10 years. Install was completed quickly. I had three other quotes before calling Gabe. Working with One Shot was 20% less then the next lowest bid and half the price of the highest bid. Will use them again for any plumbing issues.
