I purchased a double scoop Kalfi and Mocha Almond. Both were delicious. The Kalfi was especially unique and delicious. It was pistachio, rosewater and cardamom and not overly sweet really very special. My husband had a caramel and fig ice cream that was really delicious. Our son had a Sunday that he liked. We had some really delicious ice cream from Authors Ice Cream and Coffee! Tucked away in the back of a shopping center, Authors sits eagerly awaiting ice cream fans of all ages. They have pints, homemade cones, milkshakes, specialty coffee beverages, and various toppings for your ice cream. I opted for a double scoop of chocolate and cookies and cream. The hubs got a cookies and cream milkshakes. They were great, but were they great enough to spend $16 for both, me thinks not! The real star of the show in my opinion was the donut sandwich. It's a house made donut that's warmed up and then a scoop of ice cream is put in between. We were looking for a good Hot Fudge sundae. This place had 4.5 stars. We tried a couple samples and they were very good. We then ordered two hot fudge sundaes and a coffee. They don't have hot fudge, just chocolate syrup. He gave us a few drops of two tiny scoops of ice cream with ice crystals. They put them in regular cups and put a plastic cup on top. We had to turn them over to avoid them dripping all over our hands. I ordered nuts, and paid for them, but did not get any because they were out of them. This was our first, AND LAST visit. Author's Ice Cream has opened up their brick and mortar location in Ashburn! I got invited to Author's grand opening, and I wanted to try their small batch ice cream, donut paninis, and coffee. Food/Drinks: I tried a variety of menu items: *Sea salt caramel [waffle cone] *Strawberry [waffle cone] *The Original [donut panini] *Caramel latte The small batch ice cream was delicious and there were a variety of dairy and non dairy flavors. Many options are made without an egg base (although there are at least a couple that have add-ins, which do contain egg.) The ice cream was sweet and creamy. The donut panini consisted of cookies and cream ice cream, fruity pebbles, and chocolate drizzle stuffed between a donut. The donut wasn't overly sweet, so you won't get overwhelmed with sugar. But eat it before it melts! The Vibe: The interior is brightly lit and filled with lots of colors. There are plenty of places to sit inside to enjoy your ice cream. Parking/Location: This location is tucked away in an office plaza right off George Washington Blvd in Ashburn. There's plenty of parking. This is a wonderful new addition to Ashburn. On first appearance, this coffee shop/ice creamery is stunning. The colors are very inviting, there's ample seating outside and in, and there's a decent selection of non dairy options (ice cream/sorbet). For milk alternatives, only oat milk was advertised. The service was great; polite, friendly, and fast. I ordered a mocha to go, so on my way I went. I wanted to love it, but for how expensive the mocha was, the taste did not compare. I would have gone back to ask for it to be remade and I'm sure they would have obliged, but I was already on the road at this point. 3.5 stars rounded up, I'll try it again in the near future and hope for a better result. read more

Tried Authors at the mosaic fall fest this weekend and I absolutely loved it! We got cookies and cream in a cone and their donut panini with cookies and cream, chocolate sauce and coco pebbles. Cookies and cream was delicious! The ice cream itself had that Oreo creme flavor and the pieces mixed in made it even better. The donut panini was really good too and I loved the added crunch the coco pebbles added. Hopefully we can make a trip to their storefront in Ashburn to try even move flavors soon! read more

We were craving for ice cream on the warmest day of winter so we found Authors Ice Cream since we were in Ashburn area. What a gem we had found! There were so many unique flavors of ice cream that we had to do the "Flight," which comes with 5 scoops. We did Chocolate, Cookies and Cream (for our picky toddler), Kulfi, Tayberry, and Guava. All of them were delicious. Not overly sweet like most ice cream shops out there. Just perfect sweetness. Our 5 year old devoured the Chocolate and Cookies and Cream, but also tried the other 3 and went back for several more spoons, which we were so surprised. That was a big win for us because he is such a picky eater. The Tayberry is a fruit that looks like an elongated raspberry. It's got a creamy subtle raspberry/blackberry flavor with no tartness. The Guava is refreshing and complemented well with the Tayberry. The Kulfi has cardamon and whole pistachio. It was delicious by itself or with a shot of espresso. Normally, we can't even finish 2 scoops of ice cream between 3 of us, but we finished them all. All 5 flavors were fantastic! All their ice cream are made in-house so if you have a flavor you'd like to see, the owner says to let them know and they may just have it at your next visit. We were told that holiday flavors are coming soon, so we'll have to visit again soon! We ordered a shot of espresso and Macadamia latte. Again, the espresso was so good with Kulfi. Both drinks were great! Bold and smooth! The space was cute, clean, open with plenty of seating inside and a few outside. There's a big glass wall that lets you see where they make the ice cream.
