I've been going to auto body unlimited for over 20 years & have been very pleased with Jay & his crew. Apparently Jay has retired & sold the business. I was assured that the same employees were still employed & the quality would be the same as before. I was very unhappy with the repair & brought me car back to have the brand new door adjusted. They worked on it for about an hour & said that this is the best that they could do. The door is still out of alignment & is difficult to close. I paid over $5,500.00 for the work performed & am very dissatisfied with their shoddy workmanship & would never refer them to anyone. I brought my Corvette in for painting. What started out as a good experience slowly turned into a regrettable experience. After about a month, I was put on the back burner and they were working on other cars before they finished mine. All of a sudden now that they were paid i was no longer a priority. First they broke my windshield and tried to deny it, and ended up only paying for half of my windshield. The car is returned without the rear window Seal and to this day has still not been fixed. The electric locks on the Corvette no longer work, nor do the windshield wipers nor the blinkers and various other small items like the electronic seat control. These things were all working prior to bringing it in for painting. I had just bought the vehicle for restoration and as such had inspected these things before bringing it to ABU. Months later, I dropped it off a second time to have these things and other things fixed or installed and after keeping it for two months (parked outside and unlocked the entire two months) I picked it up in worse condition than it was when I dropped it off. I have a box of screws that go to god knows what, my seats weren't even Bolted down, my dash was a sort of installed, but nothing screwed down and my glove Box door is bent and small items are missing. Nothing was fixed now they refuse to fix anything. So it looks like we're headed to court. Don't bother with this place. Employees don't show up half the time and they deny all culpability and lie outright about what they do and don't do. read more

NO WORK ON MY CAR WAS PERFORMED WITH AUTO BODY UNLIMITED. I had called earlier in the day to get a quote from this shop based on USAA's recommendation. I told them that I needed my rear window replaced and I wanted a come in and get a quote to compare with another shop in town. Later I decided to go with a different shop in Thousand Oaks. I didn't bother to call and tell them I wasn't coming in and just thought they would figure I wasn't going with them by not coming in. I got a call from an UNKOWN caller ID, I answered and it was the shop saying I need to come in and sign and I told them I wasn't going with them and they said they had already order the glass I asked them why they do that with out my signature or money. Anyways when I spoke with Jay and let him know that I would go with them since he had the glass ordered if they could match the price of the other shop he said no and told me to "stick it" and hung up on me. I called the shop right back asked to speak to Jay and he was busy so I asked for a message to be relayed to him 1. I was going to call USAA and let them know what happen, and how disrespectful Jay was. - DONE: USAA told me that they are not going to recommend this shop to any more veterans or military personal and their families. 2. I was going to write this bad Yelp Review = 2 stars because I feel it is unfair to judge this shop when I didn't get any work performed here. So now that this is said and done. All I ask of this shop is to not talk that way to customers or other vets that way. And if you would have said that to my wife, buddy you can trust me this wouldn't have been said in a Yelp review. The owner, Jay, went out of his way to help me by speaking with my insurance company, and eventually got me through to my adjuster. jay also dealt with the other party involved in the accident so as to help my stress level about the accident, until you yourself have been in a possibly serious to your health accident you do not know how hard it is to just do the day to day things, but if i didnt have auto body unlimited with danny and jays help i would be a mess! luckily i know the crash doctor! Walked in to talk about some body work that I needed to have done on my car that was recently in an accident. The owner Jay Schoen, seemed to be more interested in a truck he just finished for someone else. Just told me he would be able to get the car running, but no body work for the money I had from the insurance company. A lot of red flags went up for me: when I spoke with the Tow Service who was going to tow my vehicle, refused to tow it there, because Jay Schoen is an A*****E, and folks that I worked with said is is very dishonest and a schiester! ( those were words from other folk describing him). The receptionist was a very kind lady. I felt sorry for her because the owner, Jay was rude to her and treated very poorly. So sad the job market sucks, because she needs a boss that will treat her much nicer. By the way, I found a great place that is doing all the mechanical work and the body work from the insurance money with about $400 out of my pocket. I found a coupon on Yelp.com. Contact me and I will tell you the great deal Auto Body that is doing all the work. I am saving over a $1000 by going with this other company. I had a fender replaced and the paint surrounding it blended to match... Quality of work was GOOD. Receptionist was nice and helpful, but the owner, Jay Schoen, was incompetent and providing decent service. Upon receiving my car there were MANY issues: First, my hood was working incorrectly and was not able to be opened until i fixed it MYSELF at the shops parking lot... Second, a rim was to to be purchased to replace a chipped rim, but was NOT done and i was CHARGED $125. Instead, the chipped rim was placed on the other side and the chipped part was only painted over with chrome paint. This was NOT mentioned to me at the time of pick up. It wasnt until i thoroughly inspected my vehicle and noticed the issue. After noticing, i confronted the issue with jay and he insisted that a rim was purchsed but didnt know what happend because he was not present at the time of repair (jay mentioned he went to vegas)... Jay also claimed it was just another scratch on my car and not the his problem. However, he did kno the rim was moved to the other side but for reasons he could not explain... Lastly, a wheel alignment was to be completed but when i requested a hard copy of the alignment report, it was nowhere to be found. Jay's answer to every issue was that he didnt know happened because he was not there at the time of repair... in the end, Jay gave me a $125 check for the rim that was not replaced... If someone was not as diligent as I was in inspecting my vehicle, they would have paid for work that was NOT done... read more

Jay Schoen and his team at Auto Body Unlimited are a great resource. I work in the facilities department at a local museum, and I know I can call ABU with my one-of-a-kind refinishing request. They were able to refinish a portable stage, phenolic surfaced tables and other items to perfection. Because of ABU, we've been able to get another 3-5 years of life out of items that would have been trashed at other facilities. I am hard to please, but Auto Body Unlimited has saved the day on a number of occasions. I highly recommend them. read more

Probably the worst auto experience I have ever endured! Took my work car here for a minor repair to a bumper. These people scammed my work, then screwed up the bumper install which caused trunk closing issues that took about 3 months for the owner to correct! The owner has one excuse after to another for delays. Bottom line is I don't think he pays his employees so they don't return to work as he kept saying employees don't show up to work, and if he doesn't pay his employees then he must not pay his vendors as he also used the vendor delayed parts delivery excuse. I brought my truck in to get painted after years of a faded paint job. I dropped the truck off on a Wednesday and picked it up later on the next week. The paint job looks great! I have no complaints. However, on the way home I heard nothing but constant rattles from all of the door panels. When I went to inspect it, I realized that they were all put on improperly and loosely. I could pull the door handle and the entire panel would come off with it. None of the panels were secure. When I took the truck back in to show Jay the issue, he was nothing but rude and disrespectful, and immediately blamed the problem on his workers. Being the owner of this shop, I believe it would only be morally responsible to inspect the work that had been done prior to calling it a day. All I wanted was my door panels fixed! My truck uses clips for the door panels. I come to find out that they put SCREWS in the door panels at an attempt to secure them, when there shouldn't be screws in there in the first place. One of the screws was so long that it was coming into contact with one of the windows when it was rolled all the way down, which was contributing to even more rattling. I had enough of this guy, so I brought my truck someplace else to get the panels fixed, as I did not trust him to further work on my truck. Jay told me I was in his face and being rude. O.K..I've used this facility over the years (3X) and for some reason I'm not seeing the individual reviews I've posted. First time I used them was in 2007 for a minor dent on a colleagues car that the bike I parked next to him leaned over and dented his Honda Civic. Great price, workmanship and delivered on time. That would earn a 5 since the value was exceptional (I didn't turn this into the insurance company since the cost to repair was about the same as the deductible) so possibly that is why the value was excellent. My colleague remarked that it was excellent as he couldn't even see where the work was done. The next time I used this facility was to move my daughter into her dorm @ Cal Poly SLO- the price I was looking for was for the small trailer since we were taking my car and would put whatever couldn't fit into the trailer would go into my Element. Unfortunately I was unable to secure the smallest trailer for the date BUT Jay, (the owner) went ahead and gave me the next size up trailer for the same price. Using my criteria of value/service again a 5! Today, my daughter brought her newly purchased used car in because the drivers side handle and lock came completely off the car and now had a unsecured car that a thief would be able to easily break into since the lock/handle were gone. I called Jay and he couldn't give me a price w/o seeing it but told me to send my daughter in and he would take care of it. Well, I texted my daughter to see what the status was and she told me that he repaired it on the spot and the cost was less than $100 (much less) . What? Did I get this right? Well, based on the price, convenience and while you wait I couldn't help but be impressed. Again, a 5. Now, let me state, that I've reviewed these other reviews and can see that Jay can be as no nonsense as they come and to some rude. But, if your looking for professional workmanship, a shop that delivers what they say than consider my three experiences to judge the work by. Perhaps it's the way I come across (I'm pretty blunt) and will rate a service based on poor attitude as well , but if you consider value/qualify of workmanship and can get past the rough exterior you might be as rewarded as I have not once, but three different times. He was snarky and condescending, and kept telling us about how he was doing us a favor by not leaving and getting lunch before he finished handling our transaction. He kept also complaining about how he had double-booked everything (it sounded like he was trying to blame us for renting a uhaul from him..? I'm not really sure what he was talking about there). I went here twice, for a accident repair and to get rims, the receptionist is very nice and I thought they did a great job until I got a flat tire and AAA couldn't change my tires because they put on a lock with my new rims. Me being car-dumb had no idea what they were talking about and called them. They said they didn't put a lock then called me 15 minutes later saying it might be in my trunk. Needless to say I ended up having to rent a car through enterprise because I couldn't get my tire changed and buying a key from the tire place for $10-something so small that THEY should have already told me about and known about-costing me $60 in a rental care and LOTS of frustration and causing me to be 45 minutes late to pick my son up from school because I couldn't just throw a spare on. I had very little time to return the car to the lease company, and I ended up getting a good trade-in offer because I had lease equity in it, so I traded it in and bought a new car. My Saab had a radiator leak so I called a few places in Simi to get a price quote for installing a radiator that I already purchased from Auto Zone. I called ABU and Jay answered the phone and at first seemed a little grumpy but then seemed friendly. He said it would be $90 to put in the radiator. My husband dropped the car off around noon. About 4pm I called to check on the progress and Jay told me that he wayyy undercharged me, I have a difficult car, its taking his guys longer than expected.... Needless to say I felt bad for him but I thought it was a Little unprofessional. So at 5:45pm, 15 minutes before closing, he calls me and tells me they started the car and the fan belt just broke... hmmm. Couldn't have been his guys... So I went down there to bring them a belt for the car and he then begins telling me how he just wants to get out of there, he is tired, had no lunch, been there since 7am bla bla bla. Very unprofessional again. Still fairly nice but just whined alot.. so anyways, I let them keep the car until the next morning to fix the fan belt. I called the next morning 30 min after they opened (this morning) and asked if they had a price on installing the fan belt.. $90 he said for the belt install. An hour later my phone rings and he then tells me my husband gave him the wrong belt. So I tell Jay just to order one and ill pay them. 2 hours later he called back and said that my car is fixed and that we did give him the CORRECT fan belt and that his mechanic figured out what was wrong... OK?? So I go pick the car up and turn the car on and the check engine light is on, WAS NOT before. I picked it up today. So my husband is still testing it out. We don't know if we will call back there. My impression from that place was unprofessional, inexperienced (in Saab's anyways), and fairly nice attitudes just whinny. So there you go. I didn't hate the place but it could have been better, alot better. Overall I think the place was clean and fair priced, just not the best with everything else. read more
