Given past issues with theft, and certain negative reviews from yelp already we politely asked if we could simply observe from a distance while they inspected the car. The mechanic was immediately rude and dismissive, refusing. We live just 100 feet away from this shop and genuinely hoped to support a small community business. Instead, we were told "too bad" so we have to go somewhere else. The entire experience felt unprofessional and unnecessarily hostile, especially after following their instructions to come in about a code we had already figured out.

To start, my family and I have been going to the same mechanic for over 50 years. I have ventured out to others when I desperately needed service and my preferred couldn't get me in, and was always screwed over. The typical you "need" this, this, and this done to your car which led me to have a really poor experience with anything that needed to be done to my car - which had 200k miles on it, and made the process dreadful. Long story short, my boyfriend needed a routine oil change, tire rotation, and wanted to get a full inspection on the car since his just hit 100k miles. The car was also showing that he needed a new timing belt (something that pops up automatically when the car hits 100k, and has yet to be replaced) and we were supposed to be making a long drive the next day for a wedding. I decided to take the car since he had to work. I get to the shop and am immediately warmly welcomed by a nice smile and friendly hello from a man named Tyler. I told Tyler exactly what I wanted and didn't want anything else done besides what I said. I also told him that we ideally wanted to wait on the timing belt seeing as we had to leave for a long trip (I had my fingers crossed on this one since). He checked everything, and came to the waiting room to tell me I can make it there and back before the timing belt needs to be replaced, but that it should be replaced soon. THIS was what I wanted to hear. He also told me I needed new filters (I already knew this, oops), and too the time to show me how gross mine were, so I ended up getting new ones. He ended up giving me a little discount too, and explained, "we just try to do a little something for everyone". Amazing! After driving the car home, it has a completely different (but good) feel to it. Maybe it's in my head, but it truly does feel like it was taken care of properly. I have NEVER had this good of service from a mechanic in my life. Our Planet Automotive will be our new mechanic, and I'm so happy with the time Tyler spent with me on this. I can be a tough critic, but this process was pain-free and easy. Thank you, Tyler, and the guys at Our Planet! :-)
