AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!…read more I had taken my previous vehicles to the location in Utah county, and was happy with the service so after moving to SLC when my truck needed work I went to the Salt Lake location. I parked my manual transmission truck in their parking lot, and with an old E-brake, left the car in gear to prevent it from rolling. Upon walking outside a tech followed me out and got in the truck to check mileage. She started the car without checking it was in gear, and floored it directly into the wall of their shop. Instead of stopping, she kept her foot on the gas to the point that she did a burn out with the rear tires. This caused damage to the front bumper of my truck. The manager of the shop called me after the incident to discuss resolution. He offered to either pay for a new bumper, or discount the service by the cost of a bumper. The requested service came out to $3200 before the damage to the bumper. No offer of discounted labor beyond the cost of the bumper. They called a few days later saying they had identified a faulty wheel bearing and quoted over $1,100 to replace. When I told them I'd like to get another quote from a competitor, then the manager offered to do discounted labor on the wheel bearing alone. (Mind you they already were working on an upper control arm on the same side). When again I requested to wait and get another quote he then offered free labor on the wheel bearing alone. Ready to put it to bed I agreed. When I went to retrieve my truck today it was covered in a dried on tacky substance that was not there on drop off. When I asked what it was one of the techs let me know that they had noticed a few weeks ago they had a leaky water heater, and they had decided to leave the truck parked directly under it for days on end. Not a new issue, but a known issue and that I was the lucky customer who got their vehicle parked directly below. Unfortunately this was brought to my attention after I just forked over $4,000. In my experience here's what you can expect from Steve's Automotive Specialists on 2300 E. They will let front desk workers with no understanding of vehicles drive and operate your car in a radically unsafe manner, even post massive mistake they will look to up-charge you at every opportunity, and to top it all off they will treat your property like garbage. This shop charges top tier prices, and gives a horrific customer experience. What a joke! How a shop like this stays open conducting their business this way is shocking. I'd pay double to go to someone else next time.

Scott was the lead mechanic at the "Big" tire shop on Ft. Union for many years but it changed ownership a few years ago and the new owners run exactly the kind of operation everyone wants to avoid, recommending unnecessary repairs, etc. Like many of the "Big" store's longtime customers, myself included, he wanted nothing to do with that so he bought Cottonwood Garage and I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. If you need work on your car or truck give them a try and I bet they'll earn your repeat business as well.

They didn't try to up sell me on a cold air intake, or cat back exhaust, or anything else- they told me this was the best setup for a tune, unless I really wanted to spend some money and go pressurized with a turbo or supercharger. Anyway, the tune was totally worth it!! Not only does the motor run smoother, run through the gears more quickly, rev easier- just an improvement all around. I've also gained consistently 1.2 mpg's. I would totally do this on a G37 or M37, or, I'm assuming the tune on models with the V8 would be awesome too- (M45/FX45/50). I've had two other cars worked on at Turbo Labs- a 2009 V6 Honda Accord Coupe, and a 2013 VW GTI. On the Honda, I had coil overs, a performance exhaust manifold, and a short shifter installed. 100% happy with the work and results. On the VW, I had front and rear sway bars put on, and a custom oil catch can fabricated and installed. Also 100% happy with everything. These guys are the kind of mechanics that can tear down, and build up a car piece to piece. They build custom parts, rebuild parts- custom turbos, superchargers- you name it. Basically some of the most highly skilled mechanics out there in my opinion. Not just doing the same maintenance kind of stuff day to day. Whenever I have a new car I want tuned, or looked over by an expert- I call Joe, and get my car in. He and his mechanics always exceed my expectations.

I have found that Lance and his staff only give me suggestions for what must be fixed and tell me what may be optional. Lance also pays his office manager a salary so there is zero commission. Lance pulled me aside and said, "Mike I love your business but get out of this car." I trust these guys and my family and friends have had identical experiences. I called to complain about one ball joint already being bad and two ripped cv axel boots and they basically told me too bad the warranty is only 3 years. What a bunch of B.S . I don't feel bad writing this review because they must have used cheap parts because sorry that kind of repair shouldn't only last 3 years. On top of that what kind of customer service is that. Had my car in twice in two weeks trying to get some service done and my windshield replaced. They…read moredidn't get to my windshield the first time so took it back. Waited over 4 hours, finally asked for an update and they said they were waiting on authorization. I told them I was paying for it so there was no authorization from what ever they were waiting on. So I took my car and left without getting it fixed for the second time. I didn't have another 4 hours to wait. After two bad experiences in a row I will not be back. I'm not sure what has happened to this service department since I was there last but it's definitely not what it used to be.
