I have never received such a thorough report on my car, complete with photos of different components and easy-to-understand explanations of the importance of different types of maintenance. The office was easy to reach over the phone for questions and I was impressed at their willingness to work with me to determine the most essential of the expensive repairs I needed versus those that were less urgent. Yelp steered me wrong on this one. I was new to the area and was looking for a place to get oil changes and the occasional tune-up. I found that Auto Stop had WONDERFUL reviews on this place. I was pleased with my first visit. The oil change was pricier than some places, but the service was great, and everybody was very friendly. On my second visit to get an oil change, I was given a laundry list of things that needed to be done on the car, totaling around $2,000. One of the things they said was that my spark plugs had never been changed (though I had changed them several months earlier, and had the paperwork to prove it). Since I was skeptical, I went to a family friend, who happened to be a mechanic. He said that less than half of the stuff needed to be done, and we could easily do it ourselves. We got parts, and did the work ourselves for $150. I went to a different mechanic after we did the work, and he said that everything looked great. I don't know what happened during this visit, but I was surprised that a company with such great reviews would miss the mark by such a long shot. read more

These guys are several steps above the average indie auto shop. I recently brought a vehicle in for a routine oil change. Afterwards I noticed a minor issue that irritated me. I completed their follow-up customer satisfaction survey with a less than fully satisfied response. Within 24 hours I got a phone call offering TO COME TO ME to fix the issue. Tom is very knowledgeable and his staff works quickly and professionally. Unlike dealerships and other mechanics, you won't be taken advantage of when you are in a tight spot, and you will always get a fair deal. You aren't pay for a lot of overhead - Tom usually answers the phone and there is a small, no frills waiting room - but I much prefer that! They are great to call if you need recommendations about body work, painting, etc. I was actually bummed when I got a new car and the dealer had a maintenance offer - I miss going to these guys. What you usually don't expect from auto mechanics but definitely get from Auto Stop: - experience and knowledge - superior customer service - excellent price - honesty We took our car to the garage up the street for an emissions test - it failed, but the garage gave no explanation or recommendation for getting it fixed, and they charged us for the work. We took it to Auto Stop and again it failed, but they told us why and even let us know that it's covered under a Fed Emissions warranty and we should take it to the nearest dealer to get it fixed. I took my 2009 Mercedes in for tire service. Found out my two rear tires were grave yard dead. I made arrangements to bring my car back into the shop at 8am and leave to have two new tires put on and an wheel alignment. Never received a status call. So I called at 4pm, one hr before I got off work. I was told they just got the tires on and my car was in line to have alignment done. I arrive to the shop at 5:20 and sat for 25 minutes and was told we put your tires on but can't do your alignment We don't have to tools to perform an alignment for your car! The service guy told me to check with Tires Plus and they may be able to align my tires. Then he cheerfully said well we saved you $199.00 but you have new tires. I guess I had fool stamped on my forehead. It's obvious time management is a issue along with lying to customers. My Director referred me to this shop and was disappointed when I informed him of my experience. It took 8 hrs to install two tires, no wheel alignment and a referral for me and my new tires to go elsewhere. To put the nail in the coffin when I reviewed my invoice the service guy lied on it and wrote I declined a wheel alignment. Go figure. That defeats the purpose of getting new tires. Who in their wrong mind would drive around on new unaligned tires? Oh let me not forget. The service guy jokingly stated he will have to push for the owner to get the tools needed to service Mercedes Benz. How can you blog & advertise about servicing Mercedes if you don't have the tools to service it with? I would definitely like to hear from the owner of this shop. Ms Riding Crooked on New Tires. Turns out my hub and bearing assembly was perfect and I just needed a new tire. Saved me over $400!! Everybody at this place are extremely nice. I came here only from the good reviews and they were spot on with customer service. They definitely dont try to sell you on anything unless its a safety issue and even then, they make sure you dont feel uncomfortable about anything. The prices are extremely reasonable. And sooo convenient to do night drop offs and pick ups! Theyre rewriting history in my books when it comes to car shops and I am soo sad to be moving out of state. I took my honda in for the timing belt change. After reading the many positive reviews, I decided on Auto Stop even though I live in Herndon. I dropped my car off at night and used the night drop box. I received a call the next morning with a detailed estimate and I gave him the go ahead. To my surprise it was done and ready to go by 4:30. Friday morning I took a bus, which stopped right next to A.S., to get the car. I had a chance to chat with the owner while waiting for them to pull my car around. He informed that they do provide shuttle service to Pentagon City for future reference. He definitely cares about his customers and the reputation AStop has developed on yelp. The technician changed my oil by mistake but I wasn't charged for it. Nice! Parking around the shop can be tough (I double parked it for a minute while I ran inside). Complementary WI-FI, water, soda, and coffee are available for those who wait or walk just a couple blocks and pass the time at the shops in Shirlington Village. I'm glad I found them, I now have a "go to place" for auto repair. read more

These guys are awesome! I came here for my inspection, figuring I'd check them out to see if the Yelp reviews held up with something relatively simple. I didn't make an appointment, they got me right in, offered me a ride to the metro or water and snacks if I wanted to wait. They even gave me a heads up on some of the typical issues Jeeps encounter as they get older. Just stopped in today because my brakes were squeaking. No appointment, they immediately went and preformed a visual inspection, explained what the issue was (harmless but annoying glaze developing on the rotors due to the typical DC stop-and-go traffic) and then also asked if I had any other concerns, checked my oil, and I was on my way in 10 minutes. I already know I'll be skipping the dealership and coming straight here to have any future maintenance done. They take the time to explain things to you and are curious and friendly. Oh, and NO diagnostic/inspection fee!!!!!! That's probably the best perk! So glad I've found a trustworthy, friendly, reliable mechanic! read more

This is the second time I have been to Auto Stop. My first experience was great and I raved about it and I think I gave it 5 stars but that was the experience I had at the four mile run shop (Tom et al) not the one at Leesburg pike location. I dropped off the 1991 Toyota truck on Thursday afternoon and was told that it would be ready Friday around closing time (5- 5:30). That didn't happen. I wanted to have my tires rotated and a front-end alignment (estimate was about $120). The technicians are Chis and Elwell. Chis performed the alignment and Elwell the rest. Early on Friday morning I got a call and they said that I have a CV axle boot that was worn and although it "wasn't slinging grease yet" that I should fix it. Also I needed a brake fluid flush and to replace the air filter. They said that they would call back with a cost estimate in half a hour. They never called back. So I called them 3 times during the day and finally spoke to Elwell who gave me an estimate of $754.12. Although that is a fair amount of dough the CV/axle was the expensive part $204 and the labor to R&R was $220. About 5 I get a call (they eft a message as I was out) and Elwell said that they have the wrong part and the job would not be done on time which why I picked up the truck on Saturday. When I picked up the vehicle and was going to pay the bill Chris said that I didn't really need to have a brake fluid flush and they just wiped off the brake fluid container and it was fine. You would think that they would have done a little better job of determine if the fluid really did need replacing instead of just guessing at the time of the estimate. A few more things, I had the oil changed and they didn't put the nifty little reminder label in the upper left side of the windshield to remind me of when the next change should be. The gear shifter and wheel were both covered in dirty grease which I had to remove. The tire pressure was not right either. So this was not the great experience than I had but maybe that is because the best Auto Stop is still on Four Mile Run. read more

These folks are knowledgable, competent, friendly and efficient. Even though there are other places that are more convenient to me, I find them to be well worth it. In the years I've been going here they have literally saved me over $2,000 as compared to other places. Once, my windshield washer stopped working due to some cracks in the small hoses that run though the wiper assembly. My car is fairly old so replacements parts were impossible to get. They spent a good amount of time and energy rigging up a solution from various spare parts they were able to find. Total cost to me: $30. They also have a shuttle to the Pentagon metro and to Ballston. I once dropped my car of and was told the shuttle would be a while, so the manager got one of the mechanics to give me a ride home. They also offer free loaner cars if you need to leave your car there for an extended time. Friendly, honest service that can't be beat! read more

Went to Falls Church for an oil change. Great, attentive mechanics. Quick turn-around. Reasonable price. Highly recommended. One note for those going to the Falls Church location: it has a very narrow driveway, with no lot or anything. There's a big sign with the address number over it, but that's all the warning you'll get. Just pull straight into that driveway, though, and you're all set. read more

This place is wonderful and the service is fantastic! I brought my BMW in after the alert system went off. Once they ran the tests and got back to me, I discovered that I needed new brake rotors, pads, and sensors, an oil change, brake fluid flush, and a tire rotation. One of my gaskets was also leaking, but not too badly. I am definitely not very mechanically inclined, but I wanted to understand how the different parts of my car worked, and what sort of maintenance needs to anticipate in the future. So, at the risk of sounding like a crazy person, I requested that they save the parts they replaced so they could show me what they did and show me what parts of my car would likely need work down the road. I had to pick my car up close to their closing time, but not once did I feel like they were rushing me out the door. They even stayed late with me to make sure they addressed all my questions. Tony was extremely nice and knowledgeable and very thorough in showing me how the brake system worked and how my old brakes had been worn down. He also showed me where I had some fluid leaks, but didn't pressure me to fix it immediately, instead giving me a timeline for when it would need to be done. He also pointed out different areas that commonly show wear on my type of car after time. This was really helpful so I could anticipate and put aside money for annual maintenance costs and make sure my car is running smoothly and safely. I really got the impression that these guys really care about what they do and take pride and enjoyment in their work. After starting my car one winter morning, a "low coolant" warning sign appeared as a caution sign on my dashboard. I decided to get it taken care of ASAP and called Auto Stop during my lunch break to check on availability/cost. The gentleman that answered the phone was so polite and courteous; he informed me that all mechanics were booked with appointments. However, he suggested that I drop by regardless in order to for them to fill my coolant container temporarily until I was available to set an appointment for a coolant flush. I was taken aback by his generosity. I popped over to Auto Stop withing 10 minutes and was assisted immediately. These guys are friendly, efficient and trustworthy! It took them a couple of days to respond but when they did they they took the time to talk specifically to my vehicles maintenance requirements and what they would check unlike other shops that said "we won't know until you come in". As a female trying to get car maintenance done I am always leery. Auto Stop was extremely personable and professional. Changed the oil, checked the maintenance requirements for my mileage and made some no pressure recommendations. Their oil change was also less expensive than some of the other shops in the area. My Prius C shut down twice during the same week and and I had to get AAA to jump start it both times. AAA said I needed a new battery (it's been 7 years). Found Auto Stop on Yelp and they accommodated me same day. When they checked the battery in my car, they said it was fine and didn't need to be replaced (at least for now). They charged it up and off I went. They were right--my car has been driving smoothly with no battery hiccups. The great thing is, they were honest about it and didn't try to push a sale when I didn't need it at all. They didn't charge me anything. I had an immensely positive experience with Auto Stop which was recommended to me by my brother-in-law. I have a Lexus ES350 and had some vibration that could be heard and felt while I accelerated and took turns. I had a feeling it was being caused by the wheel bearing (I was told months ago this could be a problem), Auto Stop staff detected the issue right away and they were very honest with my estimate, they said they would do their best to preserve the wheel hub to save me couple of hundreds of dollars and they sure did! I dealt with Sean, he sent me a detailed estimate and an appraisal with pictures and videos to exactly show me what the problem is and what will it take to fix it. The turnaround from the time I dropped off the car and picked it up was less than 48 hours, unlike my most other mechanic shop experiences this was a pleasant one and I will use them again for sure! read more

I didn't get to meet Tom, but Tony and his crew took excellent care of me. I've been "cheated" in the past - as a single female - and been told that my Honda CRV needs such and such work done and that it won't pass state inspection until I pay in the thousands of dollars for work. Tony called within 3 hours of my taking the car in and said the car was ready with no problems whatsoever - state and emissions inspection taken care of! Picking up the car was an ease, and the guys are all friendly. I have been to many repair shops in my life, both dealership run and local shops, but NEVER before have I received the level of service that I did today at Auto Stop. I had to drop my car off this morning (not a scheduled appointment) because I had several indicator lights on and I wanted to get my car looked over before sale. Jasmin, Oscar and Edwin (manager) all greeted me with kindness and told me they would call when it was ready. Additionally, they offered me a ride to wherever I was going. Later in the afternoon, they called me back to tell me they had taken care of the indicators and checked everything else out for me. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle and pay, they told me it was "no charge." I realize this may not be typical in every situation, but the fact that they would take the time out of their day to take care of me and do it promptly and without compensation, is truly refreshing! Not only did they not charge me for their services, but they also replaced a burned out brake light for me for free. I can't begin to tell you how comforting it is to know that there are such honorable and genuine people around to work on your vehicles when you feel most vulnerable. My first review on Yelp couldn't be for a finer establishment. I came to Auto Stop after having been taken for a ride by another highly-rated DC garage. Tom and his team deserve every star they've got here, however. They're polite, efficient, knowledgeable and honest, and I can't think of anything else I would want. The problem with my car was diagnosed in a matter of hours, and they clearly laid out my options and their recommendation without being pushy about it. I like the fact that they have the fundamentals of their business down pat. They know their stuff (automobiles), and they're serious about customer satisfaction. Couldn't ask for anything more. Autostop is great! All we've gotten there so far is a synthetic oil change but we have a hybrid and are always concerned about anyone other than a dealership working on the car. I read Autostop's reviews and then I read my dealerships reviews and decided to give Autostop a try to save a little money. Richard was very helpful and gave us $10 off as a new customer. He was very knowledgeable and explained things clearly. When the oil change was completed, it was helpful how he went through other maintenance items for the car without pressuring us to get anything providing an overview of what we should try to get looked at when the car hits certain mileage increments. read more

Great little shop. I have definitely found my car shop of choice. I'm used to getting a new car every couple of years, and have never needed to get new brakes, however, we have loved our Highlander and have kept it longer than I normally would. So we needed some brakes and rotors, called them at 11am today, which is Saturday, picked it up about 4pm. Not only did he call me and tell me exactly what needed to be fixed how much it would cost, it was half the cost of the dealership and merchants. So I would recommend them in a heartbeat. Yeah... not super impressed with my first interaction with Auto Stop. I took my car over the weekend to have a brake issue checked (it's making a grinding, not metal on metal sound every time I hit the brake pedal). In addition, I needed a tail-light replaced and an oil change. I dropped it off Saturday morning, and within an hour, they had taken care of the latter two issues and told me that all I needed was a tire rotation for the brake sounds. The tech reiterated that my brakes were fine, that they did not need additional work, it was just a sound from the way they were meeting the tires. I said fine and authorized a tire rotation. I was told my car would be ready in 10 minutes. Twenty minutes later I show up and the tires aren't rotated. I had somewhere else to be so I said I would come back and pick the car up later but went ahead and paid then, just in case. I pick up my car (near closing time), and the next time I brake, the sound is still there. I called this morning to ask about the issue and was told I needed to bring the car back in, and the brakes "might need to be replaced". When I asked how was that possible if I was just told that they were fine, the tech answered "because you said the noise was bothering you. Brakes make noise sometimes." I know that brakes make noise. I also know what sounds abnormal. If my brakes are fine, as the tech restated today, I'm not sure why replacing them would be the answer. I did call the second Auto Stop, and had a wonderful customer service experience by phone. I haven't gone in yet, and yes, the tech did offer that replacing them could be beneficial for the noise, but explained it in such a way that did not patronize me. He offered to give a second opinion, gave me a little story of his own of when a similar issue happened with his car and overall made me comfortable about my upcoming visit. I will visit the other location and determine whether I have a similar or better experience. read more

Don't come here if you have your own parts. I wanted to get my transmission fluid changed, front rear gear axle fluid changed, and power steering fluid flushed. Picked up the sealed MOPAR parts from a dealership who wanted to charge a huge amount for the labor, only to find that the Auto Stop has a policy against using customer supplied parts. If they are sealed and unopened with a receipt showing you literally just picked them up, I don't see why they would just turn me away. read more

The reviews of this place don't lie, this place is a gem. The staff is extremely friendly, and will do an excellent job with your car and a very reasonable price. The last time I was here my car was spewing out exhaust and sounded like a Harley Davidson. After they inspected my car they found out the problem with it could be fixed for free if I took it to the car dealership, since there is a recall on what the problem was. Due to the problem, if they would have fixed it themselves they could have charged me a couple thousand dollars, instead I got it fixed for free. They even inspected my car for no charge! The only negative thing i can think of is i wish they would be up later on the weekdays. It makes it sometimes difficult to bring my car during the week, for a quick oil change or something small. Overall: You can't go wrong with Auto Stop. If you are looking for a good place to bring your car for an oil change or repairs this is the place you want to go. read more
