I was having battery issues and most shops (incl the dealership) instantly jumped to the conclusion that the battery needed to be replaced. These folks hooked up the battery to the reader and measured output, showed me the results, and concluded that the battery was weak. They asked how old the battery was in case there was an outstanding warranty that I could claim. Only then did they offer to install a new battery. 4.5 for a really solid auto shop. I'd been having a few problems with my car lately, so I started looking for a mechanic. While I don't generally think of Yelp as a place to look for those type of services, Auto Tech Service came overwhelmingly recommended. While it was a little far from me (located over in Ivy City off Mount Olivet Road), the reviews and need to get my car handled quick and for a good price pushed me to check them out. I arrived at the venue around 8:15 on a Wednesday. While I read something about doing appointments, other reviews mentioned a first come/first-serve approach, so I made sure to get there early. Boy am I glad they did. I think the word has gotten out because this place was already starting to get busy. I went inside the small little office, told the gentleman what was going on with my car and he took my keys and told me he'd give me a call when they had more information. I then jumped on a nearby bus and headed off. I got a call a couple hours later detailing the issues and giving me quotes that were wayyy less than I had heard when I had called around to a couple other mechanics. I'm talking a fraction less in that I think the part was sold almost for cost and the hourly mechanic rate was like what I would get back when I was a teenager in Missouri. He then told me about another issue that wasn't causing an issue and would cost quite a bit to fix, but recommended not worrying about it unless I really wanted to fix it. Talk about a completely different approach than any other mechanic that normally tries to upsell! While I do wish they did a little bit more trying to sell me on services (I could have been convinced to get an oil change), I was super happy with the chance to get the main work done so quickly and for such a good price. Overall, Auto Tech Service is a solid auto shop. The good prices and timing combined with service that isn't just trying to make a sale makes this somewhere definitely worth checking out if you need to get a repair done. read more

Just had four new brakes (rotors and pads) installed on my car here and they did a great job. I called the day before around 11am and they let me know they were busy and it is best to come right when they open, which I found helpful. I arrived exactly at opening - the work would take most of the day and they offered to give me a ride to the metro which I though was a really nice feature. They called with a straightforward quote around 10:30 and the prices were right in line with what I expected to pay. I also had them do an oil change and replace a small issue with my headlamp and everything is working perfectly. Six stars for Miguel - after picking up my car (the key was in the ignition, already running) after driving a bit I noticed the separate fob was not attached. I was in the middle of traffic on a Friday in a massive rainstorm, and I looked on the floor and it wasn't there. I called Miguel and he said he would look for it, but I ended up just driving back to the shop. He looked extensively, said he couldn't find it but that he would have a new one made for me by Monday. He even made the call to order it. I was still pretty stressed - with the key I can lock but not alarm my car so he went to go look one more time. Lo and behold, Miguel found the fob under the floor mat of my car. USEFUL TIP: This is a small place (it's in Adams Morgan!) and there's no dedicated parking lot - they told me just to park in the driveway right next to their garage and they moved the car for me.
