Dave understands that, as a customer, you may want options in your repair. In other words, you may not want to spend $2,000 on a repair for a car that is fifteen years old. He also has been able to solve mysterious mechanical issues that other mechanics could not sleuth out. Most recently, we brought our Subaru into Dave at Middlesex(the owner/mechanic) due to a squeaking sound that we were hearing when traveling at about 65-70 mph. Dave thought that this was a transmission issue that was a known trouble spot for my make and model. I was slightly over the warranty miles, but Dave advised me to call Subaru of North America anyway to see if they could work with me(warranty-wise) on the potential replacement of the transmission since this was a known issue. This process took a little while and Dave coached me a few times during this process. At the end of the day, Subaru covered the transmission replacement 100%. Dave's knowledge and advice saved me thousands of dollars despite the fact that Subaru would have to do that work themselves and Dave wouldn't see any work from it. On a side note, Middlesex Auto is in downtown Melrose. This is super convenient for anyone who lives in Melrose. It is also steps away from buses and the Commuter Rail if you have to leave your car.

I don't know much about the technical aspects of cars and knew I had to buy something used to afford it... ...and then I found the perfect car (after a lot of research and shopping around). A few years old, but only 16k miles on it after a light lease. There were some cosmetic things, but they were minor and I wanted the car. The dealership promised to fix what I pointed out and thoroughly look through everything and when I returned everything checked out great. My dad recommended getting a third party evaluation as a safeguard and thank God I listened and found Eurosport down the street. The car was sh*t. It was hemorrhaging oil, had been sloppily repainted and the dealership had used very cheap parts to fix the breaks, replace tires, etc. Probably more wrong too... after so few miles. Nick and Tony saved me from making a horrible, life-impacting purchase with their affordable, thorough and honest evaluation/advice. When I finally found another A6 that fit the profile, I brought it to Eurosport again (even though it was much farther away this time). Nick and Tony again outdelivered by finding every part out of place. Even though the car had many more miles (40k) and wasn't perfect, they recommended I buy it. They even gave me the second inspection free with a ton of other valuable advice. I know this is a long post and I'll save the rest for my memoirs, but I really do appreciate everything they did and I am very happy with my car a couple months later. I plan to drive the extra 45 minutes each way and return to Eurosport anytime I need my car worked on. I think you should too.

Recently had a repair done with Auto Engineering on my 2012 A6, they overcharged me on labor time…read morefor spark plugs so I left a 3 star review on Google. The owner, Rick, then invited me to share quotes showing how much less other shops charged for labor. I sent over the first one from a private shop for, and it was ignored because it was in NH. I sent over a second from an Audi dealer in MA, and it was once again rejected because even though the labor was cheaper, the overall cost was higher (due to pricier manufacturer parts, which was irrelevant to my point). I sent over a third quote for another private shop in North Chelmsford, which not only met Rick's criteria but even showed the exact, significantly fewer labor hours required to install spark plugs, with the cheaper cost associated with it; and then he stopped responding. After he stopped responding, Rick left a dismissive response on my review that evaded my complaint. I sent three quotes all showing you don't need 3 hours to replace spark plugs, the first two got denied due to exaggerated criteria that the owner did not communicate to me, and the third (first one to meet all his criteria) was flat out ignored. This place charges you for more labor than they actually need, and won't take accountability for it. If you don't believe me with all these other 5-star reviews, that's alright. I just suggest that when you bring your car, do yourself a favor and compare your quote from AE to a few other shops in the area. You will see plain as day that they charge you for extra hours generously. Honestly, I'm glad the owner sent me on a goose hunt for other quotes- they all reinforced how much I just got fleeced. I hope future customers will make the same comparisons and push back on AE's labor the way I should have to begin with.
