What had happened was..... I moved. And as much as I love my old mechanic of 10+ years, it just became too much of a hassle to travel that far. I had to find someplace closer. But you know how that goes. Finding a new mechanic is akin to looking for contractors. It's hard to find a reliable, trustworthy, do what you say you're gonna do type of shop. So, on a friend's reference, I gave Autobahn a shot. First off, have you met Frank? He's at the helm when you walk in and is once of the friendliest people you'll meet. I'm pretty sure he is the man I dealt with over the phone to make an appointment. What's even more impressive is he called to confirm the appointment. Aside from the big box dealer mechanics, who does that? Pretty cool. I bring my car in and we talk about my issue. Now mind you, it's a small shop so don't expect to sip on coffee and watch Day of Our Lives while you're waiting for your car. You'll have to drop it off and come back. There's literally no room to 'lounge'. Frank tells me they'll call me by the end of day. Within hours I receive a call detailing information about a recall, how I should proceed, similar cases they've had in the past with my Mercedes GLK-350, and so on. Now mind you, I already knew what the issues were. My old mechanic had told me and I was planning a date/time to drop it off for repairs. But I didn't know all of these other details, which gave me OPTIONS! We all love options. At that point, they had me. Just knowing they were trying to SAVE me money versus finding ways to have me spend more was clutch! My car was ready for pick-up the following morning. When I came to pick it up Frank gave me more information and I was on my way. I've gotta say, it also made me feel better that they have a secure lot behind the shop to keep cars overnight. I like that. So, for now, I think I've found my new mechanic. I'm glad as I was tired of making that hour-long trek to my old shop. Not that I can't go back, but like I said.......... it's nice to have options. read more

I took my 2002 VW Golf TDI here to fix some power steering problems I was having. They were nice enough and honest, but nothing to write home about. Communication wasn't very good. I dropped my car off Thursday morning and was told it would probably be done the next day. I called them just before they closed on Friday and was told they didn't get to it, and maybe tomorrow (they're open a couple hours on Saturday, which is a plus). I called again Monday afternoon and they said, yep, it's ready. I'm not sure if they were planning to call. I might stick with Autobahn, but I'll also look around for other shops next time I need service. read more

I have been a long time customer of Autobahn. I like them so much that I will only buy a car they work on (BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, VW, Audi, Saab). They are smart mechanics and figure out problems quickly and with minimal expense. In addition, they treat their customers as intelligent people as well. I became a committed customer when I first had my SAAB towed there because of what seemed to another mechanic to be an expensive computer failure. Autobahn correctly diagnosed it as a fuel pump failure (much cheaper). In addition they fixed a power mirror that I had damaged and didn't charge me at all for doing so (another mechanic told me that it had to be replaced for $400). read more

I can't echo Alie L. and Tom Q.'s comments enough. I took in my boyfriend's 2000 Audi A4 "Matilda" in because the check engine light had been on for a few months. I dropped the car off at 8:45 a.m. and it was ready to be picked up by end of business that day. Given the German make, I always expect to pay 3x as much as what the same repair would have cost on my now deceased 1992 Honda Civic XL "Pablo", and was pleasantly surprised when I walked out with the check engine light "off" and only 170 bucks lighter. Naturally, the defective part had been replaced, and they even topped off the oil. I ran the pricing for the repair by my brother (who is a BMW mechanic in another state far far away) and he deemed it more than fair. Included in the 170 bucks was sound shoe advice. And to top it all off, the shop is in a decent part of town, i.e. waiting for the bus while the car is being repaired won't cost you your life. What more could one want!? When something happens again, I will definitely be bringing/towing Matilda back to Autobahn of Towson! read more

I have a 2012 Volkswagen Passat and I brought my vehicle here after doing a lot of shopping around and review surfing for front brakes and rotors. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job expediting my service. They did not have me waiting all day on a Saturday. I paid $400 for front brakes and rotors which was great because the dealership was going to charge me somewhere in the $700's. This is the worst mechanic I've ever been to...I saw an ad for them and decided to check them out because they specialize in German cars. I decided to bring my Audi A4 in because the check engine light was on...I was advised to drop it off and they will call me to let me know what's going on....I was called about an hour or so later letting me know I need to replace my crank shaft valve....I agreed to let them work on the car ...about another hour later I received a phone call stating my car is not drivable and will need to be towed to an Audi dealer...I was so confused because My car was driving perfectly when I dropped it off....I rush over to take my car away from these idiot only to realize my car now feels like it's dragging and it's not starting the way it usually does...these guys are a rip off and have no compassion....as I was leaving he said sorry for your loss...I took my car to Audi they were able to fix my issue which ended up being a minor issue. Autobahn is excellent - I have been taking my 2007 328 here for several years. The relationship began when the dealership recommended a $1,000 steering column replacement, I went to Autobahn for a second opinion, and they fixed the issue by cleaning a ton of grease off of a nut/bolt with a rag and charging $45... true story. Their prices and work product are very solid. Most recently, I asked them to do a pre-inspection an X5 that was being sold at a dealership, they found two oil leaks that would have been $$$ to fix, and saved me a bunch. They also have good recommendations for tire places and for other mechanics who service non-German cars. Customer for life. read more
