Been going here for years for routine maintenance and have never had problems with them. Staff is friendly and is willing to help you in any way possible. There's no high pressure to do work that's not needed at that time - just a friendly reminder it needs attention in the future. We have extended warranties on our vehicles but I only go to the dealer when the staff says I'll save more money that way. Their honesty is appreciated and they'll do simple checks or minor things for free, e.g., my A/C drain line was plugged and I called and was there 1 hour later and within 15 minutes the line was cleared. Whenever I've been to chains like Conrad's, Firestone, Take5, I feel like I'm taken advantage of and they're always identifying flaws in my car that I can't say one way or the other is right. When I've come to this place, it doesn't feel like that at all - they make sure I understand the problem, the why, the cost, and advise me in a way that's not out for their own interests. I am so disappointed. I originally came to Automotive Specialty Services after purchasing a car through Carmax. Carmax has a 90 day full refund return policy, so we brought it to Automotive Specialty Services for a free inspection. they were shiny, happy, and friendly. At that time they said my brakes were 70% front and 50% rear. Because of my experience that day, I returned for my tire rotation and oil change at after driving approximately 2900 miles. The service manager called me to tell me that my rear brakes were dangerous. He said the fronts were at 50% and the rears were at 20%. He emailed me a photograph with a red tool supposedly showing the problem. he Gave me two options for new brakes, one for around 800 and and another for around 750, and that they could do it today. I said I would consult with my spouse first. I could't reach him, so I left a message that I would not be getting the brakes done that day. The service manager called back to say that we really shouldn't wait. My spouse and I went to retrieve my vehicle. The service manager came to speak with us. We were surprised that that car needed new brakes since it had only been driven 2900 miles since the last brake check. It was near close of business day. We left the shop without any clear explanation as to how or why the brakes could've worn like this with barely any driving. When we returned home, we received a phone call from that same service adviser. He said he called his technician at home, and that he had verified that the rear brakes needed to be replaced. As to why the brakes wore out so fast, he said he could only speculate that it was dirty brake fluid (which makes no sense at all because dirty brake fluid wouldnt make the pads wear out faster), or that the brake calipers were sticking (also makes no sense since the car did not pull to the right or left, made no noise or drag), or operator error due to heavy brake usage which I know I don't do. The next day we brought the car into another automotive repair shop and had a brake inspection performed. Their findings were that the front brakes were at 90%, and the rears were at 70%. We briefed the owner today, explaining that we had it checked by a third party and sharing their findings. She responded simply that she "sent a picture" showing what they found. I only share this as a warning. If we wouldn't have noticed the disparity between the two readings and known that there is no way those brakes could've worn that much when we had barely driven the card, we could've spent over $800 on a needless service. read more

I recently had an emergency car repair and took it here as the business is near my house. While there are some good things to say about the company, the prices more than outweigh any positive things I could say. The good things: Everyone is very polite. They go out of your way to make the experience as painless as possible. They have courtesy cars (although they didn't have any available the day I took mine in). You get free water/juice in the waiting area and they gave my daughter a big cookie. They were prompt with returning calls. The waiting and service area are both very clean. They have free towing. The bad: Cost. I had already had my car here and couldn't spare the time to take it to another shop. There was some confusion around how the repair was quoted --- I thought it was my out the door cost but the quote I got was for the additional work and didn't inlcude the $60 to diagnose the problem. While my car was in the shop I called a few places and they were all within $50 of each other. This place was $50 higher than the highest other quote. When I got there and was told the diagnosis wasn't inlcuded in the price given over the phone I was annoyed as the repair now cost me almost 20%-25% more than everyone else. I had called them once before about shocks and struts and, even though they were running a special on these (which is why I called) they were still almost $100 higher than everyone else. I'd suggest going elsewhere unless the free towing, courtesy car and big cookie bring their costs in line with other repair places. For the repair service alone, you can save money going almost anywhere else (including your dealer). read more

Update: Automotive Specialty thoughtfully reached out to me and addressed my concerns. I was also informed that the service adviser no longer works for the company. It's fair to say that the majority of my complaint is as a direct result of one employee, and not the entire company - so I have changed my rating from 1 to 3 stars - and I may tweak my review to reflect this in the near future. Disclaimer: I originally wrote this review a year ago, but at the time I decided it was best to keep it to myself. What changed? Last week, our radiator began to leak (on our second vehicle). I did the research, and I replaced it myself. I'm in IT, and it's safe to say Im not mechanically inclined. When it was all said and done the total cost was $140 (thanks autopartswarehouse.com) and it took me only four hours (as a novice). After this experience, I have a better grasp on just how much I'd been taken for a ride. The positives: Our car broke down, stranding my wife and infant son. I asked around at work, and someone recommended Auto Specialties. Within an hour, they had towed the vehicle to the shop and shuttled my family home at no additional cost. Diane was kind and friendly. She helped by setting us up with a loaner car, again at no additional cost. The lobby was accommodating to waiting customers (coffee, cookies, tv, and even stuff for kids to do). Very clean and professional environment. And the negatives: - I paid $830 for a new Radiator and Fan Shroud/Motor. $830. Tell me that's the industry standard I'll point you back to the section where I did this myself for $140 (without the fan) - The service adviser was dishonest with me, accused me of lying, and ignored my needs all within a 24 hour period. Why would you EVER question a customer's integrity? Out loud? To their face? Under almost any circumstance, that's bad business. - These guys give you premium parts with a life-time warranty, whether you want it or not. Why is that a bad thing? It's outrageously overpriced (Note: In a response to another Yelp review, they mention they have a "cost effective" option. They must train their staff to hide this option from customers because I literally ASKED for it and did not get it.) I can't overstate how unprofessional the service adviser was. He gave me so much fluff over the phone about what I was "saving", and then flipped the script once I did some research. He had the arrogance to question whether or not I had really gotten a cheaper quote elsewhere. By the way, I had - and it would have been hundreds less. It's too bad I was already at Auto Specialties mercy - and they knew it. I'm sure these types of reviews are met with skepticism, as it's my word vs the Service Adviser's. I assure you, I have nothing to gain from embellishing my experience. I could have simply told you about the repair costs and been justified with a 2-star rating. However, I strongly suggest you take your vehicles elsewhere - unless money is not a concern for you. read more

They are the friendliest auto shop you'll probably ever step foot in - more importantly, they are straight-to-the-point, welcoming, and fast. There is no run-around with inspection outcomes, they will offer you coffee/water/wifi within 2 minutes of you being there, and they've been able to fit me in same-day multiple times. If you're part of the car care club, you can get oil changes, inspections, tire rotations, car washes, amongst other convenient services, for a very low price, which is HUGE!! Not to mention the cookies when you pick the car back up! I'm not sure if they do it for all companies, but they offer my company drop off/pick up service when vehicles are being serviced that day. Additionally, the inspections are so well-explained, whether in-person, on a phone call, or in the follow-up inspection report that they send you via email that lets you know how imperative certain services are based on the inspection. To address some of the other reviews, they leave the decision completely up to you in regards to the outcome of the inspection - they have never pressured me into getting the service done with them. I think some of their suggested prices were somewhat higher than what my normal mechanic charged, but I think researching automotive service repairs either online or getting a second quote is an obvious thing to do before spending hundreds of dollars. They make it easy to compare to other shops/online because their inspection report is extremely thorough (thus saving you the time & money of having another mechanic charge you for their inspection). That being said, when I needed to replace all 4 of my tires, Automotive Specialty Service's price was significantly less than what my original mechanic had charged me for tires that were of significantly less quality. read more

Firstly, I apologize if this comes off harsh, but I know that I truly use Yelp and reviews to find the right place, so I hope this helps someone do the same. I went to this place for the first time today. I will tell you that yes, they are friendly; the place is clean; there is free cookies and water and coffee. The problem lies in that the prices are ridiculous. If money isn't an issue you, then, of course, they will get the job done well. I was told that they could get the parts cheaper but one they didn't recommend that(easy if it's not your pocketbook) and secondly that that would take my car longer to be fixed, as in more than likely another day being without my car. It was too late to do anything about this, but after they had my car, I did call a half mile down the road to find that one of the jobs they performed would have been $40+ cheaper. While I was waiting for my car, communication was poor. I made several unanswered calls and finally found out my car was ready at 5pm at their closing time. read more

Caveat Emptor! Took my car here because the tire place wanted me to have my car looked at by a mechanic after thinking my new tires were bad. I was told it was my differential & would cost $2200 to repair. Priced the repair through the dealer who quoted me $1600. Ended up taking it to the dealer & after further inspection found that it wasn't even my differential, it was a wheel bearing that I was able to repair for $300!! Always get a second, even 3rd opinion & better yet take your car to the dealer and save yourself the money & grief!! Glad i didn't get hosed for a very expensive repair that didn't even need done. read more

While the service it's self is good the inspection they give you every time you go to them is a sham. The last time I went there they told me I needed Inner tie rods as they would go at any time and yet 2 other places said while they have some wear they are not in need of repair. Brought my car in for service and was told I needed new brakes. Which I thought was strange since a few months prior the dealership did a brake inspection and said the brakes were in great shape. The dealer said they appear to be at 90%. So I took the car to a different dealership to get a 3rd opinion and sure enough the dealer said my brakes look great. The owner was very insistent that I get the brake service done. Funny how they claim to be so honest then they try to take me. I don't normally write reviews, but the unnecessary disrespect I received from one of their employees was angering enough to incite this review. I called roughly 10 minutes after close and begged, pleaded, and politely asked if I could stop to get into my vehicle for 5 minutes. Instead of the guy, who was obviously still at the shop as he answered their land line and repeatedly said "here," when referencing the shop, being a sympathetic human being, he was rude and snarky. I explained that I live an hour and a half away, so to be within a 5 minute drive, as I was, was a rarity and convenience. He proceeded to disregard my pleas and rudely informed me that I needed to show up during business hours. It was unpleasant and unprovoked. read more

There are 3 things most people look for in a business.. Quality, Customer Service, and Cost. Quality can be found in most places, otherwise they would not stay in business. I have lived in 7 different states around the country and it was always easy to find a quality repair shop. I have some knowledge, just not the tools, so I can say that most of what I have seen they should get 4 out of 5. Customer service - this in general is starting to dwindle out there. Although you still can find it with just some research. (I am sorry, but I do not know names). The lady behind the counter does an excellent job. She would get 5 out of 5. But the taller, bigger bald guy.. not so much. maybe 2 or 3 at best. He tries to come off like he is the only person in the world that could know about fixing cars. I challenged him something and proved it to him, but he still was snippy just could not say much since he was in the wrong. Plus he said he accidentally missed 2 things in the billing that each time he only fixed it if I pointed it out. So it was more, he was leaving them out unless you called him out on it. Lastly Cost - probably the most important. I would pay slightly more for the best quality or excellent customer service, just not a ton more. I went in for a tune-up/oil change and they "noticed" some other areas that needed to be fixed and sooner than later. I did agree, but I was assuming that this VIP membership that I belong to that comes with discounts would make them competitive if not below the average joe walking in. I WAS WRONG. I called around and spoke with 3 different locations. 1 being a dealer (which is usually the more expensive one) and 1 was 15-20 locations, and the other just a single owner. All three were 15% lower than the discounted price and if you took out that "special" savings they were between 19-23% less than this place. Their cost is easily a 1 out of 5. Especially when you speak to them about it and show them how far off they are, they still don't do anything. I would strongly urge to not only call around, but not to ever go to them unless it is for an e-check. Their VIP package most very impractical pricing. (see what I did there.. ha). I was shocked at how much of a price difference they were and when you call them out on it they just blow you off. Even look at reviews, pretty consistent theme. I am sure after this you will see some "better" scores as anyone can post, but I always look at the negative as no one fakes those. read more

I purchased two Groupons a few months ago and decided to redeem them by scheduling oil change appointments for a Saturday. When I called I was informed that they are not open on weekends and the women told me what days were availble...didn't really seem to care when I was available. She also stated that you drop off your vehicle at 8AM and it is completed at "sometime" during the day. How is someone with a 9-5 job who very often times works very later, supposed to find this in any way convenient? Am I supposed to take a day off to get an oil change? I think not. First, I was lead to believe that this company was open on weekends due to the fact that when you visit their website, you are able to select BOTH Saturdays and Sundays as a day for your appointment. Second, It was NEVER mentioned anywhere that it can take ALL DAY for a simple oil change, unlike Firestone or Conrads. While the women on the phone was very nice, she offered no assistance what so ever...I'm assuming because it was a Groupon and already purchased. I feel cheated and upset that $28.00 ($14/e) went down the drain. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

I would never bring another vehicle of mine to this place of business . In December of 2012 I took my truck in for a routine oil change. Low and behold they discover a bad leak in the power steering cooler lines. This was not leaking previously , they soaked me for $ 600.00 to fix something I believe they did while changing the oil. Last week I noticed that power steering fluid was leaking again. when I took the truck back in they quoted me over $900.00 for another repair. while it was on the lift I noticed that the lines they had originally said were leaking are right by the oil filter and leads me to believe that they could have been damaged during the oil change. . Also after the last oil change on our trip to Florida in the truck the windshield wiper fluid froze, they had refilled it the last 2 times.. I now wonder if you did something to the power steering fluid you put in. Consumer beware that cheap oil change could cost you. read more
