I will never take my vehicle back here and I would never recommend anyone to get their vehicle repaired at this shop. If Yelp would allow no stars I would be giving this repair shop 0 stars. 1. The owner Don told us he would have our vehicle ready 5 days from the day we dropped it off. Our vehicle was not ready until 10 days after we dropped it off. Throughout the whole time our vehicle was in his shop for repairs we had a very difficult time reaching contact with Don. Each day after the 5th day when we were able to reach contact with Don, he made promises that our vehicle would be ready the following day, and of course it was not. 2. Don informed us that the repairs to our vehicle took so long because once they got the transmission apart their were many other things that they had to fix and he wanted to take his time to make sure it was done right. However, he did not fix our vehicle properly because a month later the seal on the transmission started leaking. Yes we are still with in the warranty from the repairs Don's shop did, but we do not trust his repairs and don't want his shop ever touching our vehicle again. So we have taken our vehicle to someone else that will repair our vehicle the correct way. 3. Don bragged about how he has 5 stars in the reviews from previous customers. I have chosen not to SUE DON RAMER, because when I went through this nightmare of him rebuilding my jeep grand cherokee for 11 months, my health declined due to high level of stress. The lies, the waiting, the charges of parts that he charged on parts that did not need replacement...I just cant risk my health and that's why I will not sue. The greater the distance between Don Ramer and I, the better my health is. I will just sum it up, this is the most expensive lesson I will regret forever. The 3 reviews posted don't leave a favorable impression, but I gave them a chance after being referred to them by Firestone on 136/Huron for possible transmission issues that they did not specialize in. After thorough testing, they contacted me to let me know they could not find anything wrong with the transmission and there would be no charge for the diagnostic service provided. Trusting mechanics is long been a trouble spot and it is nice to know there are businesses who do the right thing for their customers, as well as charge fairly and honestly. Fortunately, the Facebook reviews for ATEC are more favorable, so don't be scared by the 3 posted negative reviews. I think you will get fair treatment, based on my experience. read more

in 2015, the transmission went out on our 2008 Saturn Outlook. We had the car towed to a Firestone on 136th and Huron. When Firestone looked the car over they said they don't work on Transmissions and recommend Automotive Transmission Engineering Corp. All this happened when we were going on vacation and going to be out of town. I had my brothers help. When i called ATE and explained the situation to them they agreed to come and tow the car from the Firestone parking lot. I was able to do all of my business with ATE through the phone. I had a couple concerns and did call around to get different pricing options. Overall Don's price did beat the dealership pricing and provided a much better warranty, 3 years with unlimited miles. I talked to Don a couple times on the phone and he sounded professional and well experienced. I was shocked at the price to repair the transmission and was probably a difficult customer to deal with. I was probably more angry at GM and the quality of the transmission and took my anger out on ATE. I mean seriously, who builds a transmission that goes out around 80,000 miles. Pathetic GM. Overall my experience was a pleasant one. We had an unworkable car when we left for vacation and a workable one when we came back. The total process lasted about two weeks, some of that was me trying to make my mind up with who to go with. Overall I am a satisfied customer. read more

In regards to BA review of ATEC, I lived this nightmare that she went through. Don would give her a song and dance about the part is on order as soon as it comes in you can pick up your Jeep. Weeks would go by and many phone calls and visits would leave us all frustrated. BA had our 2nd car for months for transportation. This experience was the most unprofessional service I have witnessed in my lifetime. The vehicle has been back at the shop for repair at least two times, since getting the vehicle returned after almost 12 months, each time it took weeks to get it back. Finally, a professional Jeep dealer fixed the exhaust leak and secured the shift cable that was left unsecured from the ATEC mechanic in a matter of hours. Upon Don finding out that BA chose to have her Jeep repaired quickly instead of weeks in ATEC shop he sent her a letter stating he would not warranty his work any longer and severing the relationship. The letter also stated she or her family were not allowed to post on social media about the experience. I told her to never sign and do not respond. Working with Don was great. He gave me confidence my Tundra would be fixed properly. I can't afford to be with out my car so finding someone that made me comfortable it would be done right the first time was important to me. I made it clear I was renting a car to get around while it was getting fixed. He gave me an accurate timeline...and beat it by 2 days which was nice on my wallet. Worse experience ever. Don't take your vehicle here if you want it fixed. They are scammers. The estimate was not what we were required to pay. They kept finding different things to report as needing to be fixed. They had my car for over 2 weeks. We arrived there to pick it up and they told us it wasn't quite done it would be an hour. We left came back an hour later. They said 15 more minutes. I got so frustrated because in my car I had a 3 year old and 8 month old that weren't to happy about being crammed into a car for over 1 1/2 hour by now. After waiting another 1/2 hour the guys comes out, mind you by now we have been waiting to pick up for 2 hours, and says we will test drive and get you on your way. Wrong. Fails test drive we don't end up getting the car. He says you can pick it up tomorrow. Ling story short, it was over another week and a bigger price tag. To get it. This is the absolute worst repair shop in the history of repair businesses. Warning to all! Do you like not having your vehicle for months,? Do you like 3 days without your car just for an oil change? Or, do you like paying for repairs and your vehicle still has the same problem as when you dropped it off for repair? Toyota put in writing that transmission engineers left a cap off the engine. I asked the Toyota manager to talk to don and figure out which one of them was responsible. Don said Toyota had a known issue with the ECU on these cars. Toyota said, "I'm not taking to the mechanics at transmission engineers because they obviously don't know what they are doing." Don claimed to fix an oil leak and several other things that I dont know if he fixed or not. I was not putting any more money into a car that would not run after supposedly being fixed by transmission engineers. I told Toyota I dont want to loose any more money and would just junk the car. Took our 1977 Chevy K10 here and asked the owner to look over the transmission and just make sure its sound. We know the transfer case leaks and its just basically old. It goes off roading and we have moved many friends with the truck. When we left it we told them that the battery was dead or low, they said it was fine. It sat at their shop for 3 weeks with no call. (we told them we didnt have to have it back quickly, but we never were updated at all) When we called, we were told the truck doesnt start or run. We were told that they couldnt diagnose the problem if the vehicle doesnt run. We said we would be right over to get it, and were told that they started to be back peddled. We arrived, they had pulled it out with a cable on an ATV from the back wall where they moved it to. (it was parked right next to a tow truck) We asked if they attempted to charge the battery, no response. We asked why it wasnt jumped, the response was 'if i try to drive it and it stalls how do we get it back to the shop?' My husband laughed and said 'well a tow truck would be nice wouldnt it?' The guy just wanted to argue. I had to tell him to walk away because he just kept being argumentative. We jumped the truck with our little car, and drove it off. NEVER take a vehicle here. They just lie! The truck had been moved after week 1, it was backed into a spot on the back wall and other cars were placed around it. But it was inoperable.... read more

I could not be more satisfied with the service I received at this place. When my transmission went out in 2014, I was very stressed, trying to decide it was worth it to replace the transmission in my 1999 Pathfinder, or buy something new (and have a car payment I can't afford). Don was not only extremely knowledgeable, but he was also very patient in speaking with me and helping to weigh my options. He was also $700 cheaper than the transmission shop where my car was originally towed. Additionally, this place has a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty (also better than the other shop). Since the replacement, Don has really gone above and beyond to make sure I am 100% happy with the work, and I am. Everybody there is extremely friendly and professional as well. I had my jeep repaired here. I had a new clutch and a rebuilt transmission. And a SYE installed. Don is great at convincing you he will get the job done. It's just no good to run a business when you're in over your head. My jeep stopped shifting correctly so I brought it to ATEC. I talked to Don and he was extremely confident he could get me back on the road at the beginning of the week. Tuesday's rolls around and I call them. Jess the "new" girl at the front desk is super friendly just not properly trained. I was able to talk to don and he told me he wanted to install SYE on the jeep. Totally understandable and I wanted it. He wanted to order it and said it would be a week. I called on Saturday and asked the progress. No SYE in shop. I took an Uber 40 min there and 40 to his shop and bought a $300 SYE because he said that would speed up the process and would be ready at the begining of the next week. I called and left a message Monday no return. I called Tuesday and got a hold of Don for a short phone call. He was to check the progress of my jeep and call me back. No call... Finally the next day I called again and got a hold of him. I told him that he had too much on his plate and wasn't punctual on getting my vehicle repaired. He later called me back and offered a vehicle for me to drive. After two weeks of not having my jeep I had figured out transportation and didn't want his car. $3000 later I take it to another shop because my shifter boot wasn't assembled and Don wanted to shorten my driveshaft he also had the pinion angle wrong. It would have destroyed itself to with a month set up like that. With a. 4" lift any flex on the trail would run the risk of pulling the shaft out of the housing. Not smart. Also the seal on the SYE wants properly assembled because now I have a leak and took it back to the 2nd shop. No jeep again. Broken promises and extremely unprofessional unfinished work results in a very unhappy customer. I would advise looking somewhere else. Don claims he's known in the automotive industry, maybe he is, but he doesn't know a jeep from a mustang. read more

I had it done on two other cars at other businesses and was not totally happy with the cost or the service, not to mention that the work turned out to be quite inadequate. So, this time, I went to several other transmission shops trying to size up the given business and found a gem with owner Don Ramer and Automotive Transmission Engineering Corp. Don really wants people to understand where the problems are with their transmissions. He will take whatever time one needs to understand the problems and to otherwise build trust. In general, the people working at this shop take pride in what they are doing and the attention shows. Prices are quite competitive and I doubt that there is transmission shop in the metro area that can offer better value, service, or professionalism. After about three months from the job, the car runs beautifully and I could not be more pleased. read more

Probably one of the absolute worst experiences I've ever encountered my entire life. I called ahead and spoke with Robyn to schedule a time to get my wife's vehicle diagnosed, everything sounded great dropped my keys in the drop box Sunday night and it would be diagnosed Monday morning.... little did I know that wasn't even the case. It sat all of Monday and nobody had worked on it, I called later that day because I had not heard from them and they told me that it was about to be pulled in they didn't have a rack available all day and my vehicle needed to be on the rack to diagnose and it was snowing so they couldn't get vehicles in and out... So I said ok no problem just please communicate with me a little better. Tuesday rolls around and they call me and tell me my estimate and I tell them ok let's get everything done... The price was good and they helped me out so I thought everything was great and the few things they needed to fix had nothing to do with my transmission.... so they get all the repairs done and we pick it up little did we know it wasn't fixed we still have the same issues it had before so we took it back and then they had to test the transmission fluid which blows my mind why that wasn't done when it went in the first time... They test the fluid and now tell me I'm looking at an additional $3500 to have my transmission rebuilt.... absolutely blows my mind on how you can drop your truck off at a transmission shop to get the tranny checked out and they fix everything besides the actually transmission... Now I go to talk to Don and he proceeds to tell me that basically I'm in the wrong for being mad at them when I dropped it off and they apparently can't diagnose e a vehicle... I was definitely screwed over ridiculously bad and I will not EVER EVER EVER take my vehicle back to that establishment the rest of my life.... and to top it all off they messed up the drivers door as well. read more

Let me start by saying I own a 67' Chevelle that has been in my family since 1985 and left to me after my dad passed away. This vehicle is the most sentimental thing I own. We were referred to Don and Paul by AAMCO. We needed a transmission and Paul built one for us at the price quoted and its an awesome 700r4. Because the car sat for so long it was in need of other repairs and a lot of TLC. Come to find out the car needed a new engine and other assorted repairs. Don took us on and told me he would fix my car and would do it at a fair price but it was going to take a while. If any of you have classic cars and can't work on them yourself you know it's hard to find the "Right guy" for the job. Well Don was our "Right guy" he took on our car as a project of his own. He built us a 20k motor for a LOT less than we could have done ourselves. He had our car for a year but in the end we could not be happier with it. He made my car something I never thought it would or could be. Don is the most honest and fair mechanic that I know and I have owned many cars in my time. He gets the job done right even if it takes a few extra days. He has a great warranty and will honor it. ATE now works on my mother's car and all of our other vehicles as well. I won't take my cars anyplace else. Don isn't just our mechanic but has become a great friend to my husband and I. Don and his employees are top notch and I would totally recommend them! My transmission on my 1995 jeep grand cherokee went out. With much to worry about with the expense of a tranny i was concerned of where to go. As a friend recommended ATEC Automotive Transmission Engineering Corp, So i took my jeep over there and right away Don and Bill had my jeep looked through and got back to me the same day. They had me come in and look how bad the transmission was. Which in my opinion was awesome i have been to other shops before but the fact that they took their time to really look at the issues and show me was very cool. After finding the issues they gave me a very accurate estimate on the cost of rebuilding the transmission. Within the same day don had all the parts ordered up and ready to be installed into my jeep. ATEC is a very busy place and one thing to understand is that when dealing with transmissions its not an over night thing. With that being said i was expected to wait a while for it to be done. But however Don and his shop had the transmission rebuilt and ready for the road within four days which is amazing. They put a stronger clutch in it so that i wouldn't have future issues. After the transmission was replaced we found that the TCM needed to be replaced which if you know jeeps the computer systems don't really hold for a long time. Mine was actually cracked which explained why the transmission went out in the first place. I will always recommend ATEC to all my friends and family because of their great efforts towards customers and their amazing work. They are all straight forward and honest and with that being said they have an open door policy. Overall amazing service and I will always be a customer of ATEC. read more
