My car's battery died on me, and so I needed to replace it instead of getting a jump. I have never replaced a car battery before, so I called AutoZone to ask if they had the same battery model for my car, and they were EXTREMELY curt with me. Just said yeah, and then I asked them to explain the maintenance fee, and the person on the other end sounded very annoyed. When the call was done, I said bye, and he just hung up without saying goodbye! That being said, when I got to the store and asked them for a replacement, they were very upbeat, funny, and helpful with all my questions. They did upsell me an item as well, but it was peanuts on top of the expensive battery. Car is now humming again! Thanks AutoZone :). read more

I was here a little earlier than opening . The staff hadn't even arrived yet . Didnt matter to me tho - I can sit and eat my MCD breakfast. Staff arrived at 7:30 - I still waited to allow them time to set up. I was coming fully prepared to pay for a battery. My car would need a jump to start but would still run so I knew it was the battery and not the alternator . He asked about my phone number for a warranty . I couldn't remember it but something told me I had left the receipt in the cars manual - just for a time like this . I DID . And ?! I was on the very last day of my warranty . Bottom line up front: These guys changed my car battery for me. For free. Apparently all AutoZones do. For free. My six year-old car's batteries weren't aging well at all. Starting my Volkswagen required turning off every accessory: A/C, air conditioner. I called ahead to first DC's H Street AutoZone, whose staff seems beyond inundated with customers. Scratching that store off my list, I called this, the Rhode Island Avenue AutoZone, who only asked that I give them half an hour to prepare for the additional workload. So I drove, on a Friday afternoon after work, to purchase my a battery that I only assumed was in stock (it was) and have it installed by a staffer who I could only assume was confident in the task (he was). Yes, I could've found the battery $10 or so cheaper elsewhere, but I honestly didn't have the tools, knowhow or even interest in changing it myself. Nor did I have any desire to trek down to my not-so-local Volkswagen dealership or deal with the scheduling issues of any other area autoshop. No. I wanted a car battery, in my car, today. Like now. And AutoZone complied and then some. They defly installed my battery while also attending to the instore customers. They disposed of my old battery and left me outrageously satisfied. read more

This Autozone is decent enough that I have no qualms about coming here for basic parts and maintenance items. The best part about this Autozone is the staff. I have found them to be generally quite good about trying to help you out as best they can. Only once did I encounter and employee who seemed oblivious to the fact that I needed help and then was upset when I asked for help. But that's definitely the exception. In fact, several times I've seen employees head out into the parking lot and help people fix simple things on their cars. The parts that Autozone (in general) sells are not that good, however. They'll be enough to get your car moving again, but the house brand is "Duralast" and frankly the quality of the parts does little to instill confidence of lasting durability. They work well, but will probably need replacement sooner than similar parts. (Then again, I may be in the diminishing number of people who keep the same automobile for a long enough time to worry about that.) You will be able to find the typical brand names for fluids, tools, and basic hardware at prices comparable to other consumer-targeted auto supplies stores. This Autozone has a captive audience in NE DC so when I want to replace my starter, pulleys, or brake pads, and I need parts immediately, this is pretty much the only option. Having to fix your car is never a fun thing, so I'm glad that when I need to go here for parts they're able to help me get in and out smoothly. read more

I'm not one to write reviews, but after the experience I had at this particular AutoZone, I had to share my experience. It started off a few days ago, when my car died in the middle of a parking garage. Turns out it was due to a dead battery, which I found extremely baffling considering I bought it from this particular AutoZone only 5 months prior. So after getting it jumped, I drove back to AutoZone, to have them replace my battery which was still under warranty. After dealing with some severely incompetent employees, they began to install my new battery. All was going fine until the person installing the new battery, broke the bolt halfway into the hole, that was needed to secure the battery in the car. The process of figuring out a solution on how to secure my battery took about 5 employees, none of which were very helpful. Some even refused to continue helping because the store ended up closing and they were off the clock. I also heard one of the employees trash talking me behind his back, claiming it was my fault they screwed up because I made them work in the dark. Needless to say, no one knew what they were doing and 2 HOURS LATER, after sitting in a parking lot at 11pm, I was left with no apology, and a car with a battery secured by some makeshift contraption. After learning my lesson, I will never return to this AutoZone and advise everyone reading this review to stay clear. read more

Came in to get a light for one of my headlights and was hoping that someone would be able to put it in for me. Desmond was a saving grace! After I picked out which bulb to buy, he came out to the parking lot to change the light. I thought it was a quick unscrew the broken light and screw the new one on type thing but I was wrong. Desmond had to remove my battery to access one of the lights and he did it so quickly. I decided to change the other one too because who wants mismatched car lights! I purchased my oil but had to go from store to store in search of services I have used for 20 years in the District. Autozone is doing a great disservice to our community and their own livelihood by chasing away the street mechanics. People were coming here everyday because they knew they could count on the street mechanics services. I could get my wipers on, oil change, ac recharge, brakes, everything done without delay or high prices. By chasing off these people, disabled vets, ex-offenders re-entering society utilizing the skills they have learned, you are creating a void an resentment with customers. I will not be back because these men are a necessary part of our community just as much as pro bono lawyers... at some point, everyone needs one. read more

Let's just say my car's seen better days. So I find myself at this AutoZone a little more often than I'd like. On the plus side, a lot of things (battery check, OBD scanner. etc.) are free and they'll let you borrow tools if you leave your ID at the front of the counter. However, the customer service leaves something to be desired ("OBD scanner? We got that?"). Also, the amount of shady men saying things to me like "Hey lil' mama, you need some help fixing that car?" and crazy homeless people buying taillight bulbs is a little higher than I'd like. read more

This location is certainly in need of new management. I arrived before it opened hoping to run in and out as soon as it did so I could get to work. As 7:30 am came, the store was not open. There was a man smoking a cigarette in the parking lot that shouted I have the keys. I was like okay, then he stated he can't unlock the door until the 2nd person gets here. I asked when would that be, he stated he was unsure. Then blurted they take the metro. I walked back to my car and waited, it is now 7:57 am and the store is still not open; nor has the second person arrived. Other people have pulled into the parking lot and walked to the door to find it still closed and the guy didn't even mention to them that he was still waiting on someone else, eventually they just got back in their cars and pulled off. I was on hold for 20 minutes and spoke with two employees trying to find a replacement headlight bulb and they pretty much refused to answer my question. I walked in the store and was standing there for 5mins while the employees held a conversation without saying hello one moment or anything. It took vaslty longer than just picking it up at the store since they had to look up my order, and figure out that I already paid for it online. Then when I get back home, I realize they handed me someone elses receipt. I did save $1.00 by buying it online over the instore shelf price, but I'm really not sure that is worth it. read more

I informed one team member I needed help and I needed my battery check. She directed me to the manager who was very grateful and helpful. The manager instantly walked with me to check my battery. He informed me that I needed a new one. With patience he walked me thru the process to purchase the new battery and he always put the battery in for me with no problem. I went in the store to get motor. I asked the man behind the counter a question (he had a thick accent...I believe a Caribbean accent) & he was very abrasive and would not help me. I proceeded to get my motor oil and walked back to the register. I saw 2 employees and nobody asked can I help you. The man who was extremely rude prior totally ignored me; so I approached the sales woman, NADIA, for help. She quickly snapped at me and said, "when I'm done!". I didn't not know that she was on a personal call talking to her lady friend about someone not appearing in court & how he wasn't shit! She continued her call while she took her time to ring me up. She never once acknowledging me. I have no idea how this Autozone on 1207 H St NE Washington, D.C. makes any money with their customer service. If you are NOT helping the customers than you are loosing A LOT of money. I will NEVER go to Autozone again. And I will surely tell everyone I know.
