I just moved to the area a few months ago and I've been going to this auto zone for little things that I didn't need much help with so there weren't really any reasons to communicate with the staff. But yesterday I went there for a battery charge. The young man seemed very nice at first when the manager asked him to remove my battery to charge it. I arrived at 7:10pm. Instead of the young man telling me the battery was no good, he decided to have me sit in my car past 8:30 and decided to clock out and walk pass me to go home. So when I went in the manager told me it was no good and that I should look at options of a new battery. I already knew that I would have to return back because I didn't have enough money. So when I asked the young lady that was working there to put the old battery back and I would return the next day to get a new one. She huffed and puffed as if I was bothering her to do her job. Everyone in this establishment had nasty attitudes which is very uncalled for. If you don't like your job don't work there! I wish I knew their names. As an owner of an automotive repair facility in the local general area for 30 years, I have had trouble sending customers back to the store and three different occasions because of defective batteries after customers complaints as a result of defective batteries to the idiot that Works there should stick to selling parts. When confronted about the three different defective batteries that failed the CCA test And was treated with the upmost arrogance. Not only will battery pass A battery test immediately after being charged It doesn't take a professional to realize that, but when you leave the battery outside in these frigid temperatures overnight, the CCA test will automatically fail. It doesn't take a Mechanic to realize that the diagnosis should be left the professionals and the attitude should be left outside the store as well alongside the bad batteries! I'll be notifying the district manager about this and corporate should definitely do something about the defective batteries and employees. read more

I needed a new battery and I have always gone to Autozone for this because of the free battery installation. But this place has horrible customer service. Big guy behind the desk is just so lazy and has all the other employees doing everything. I had one of the other employees who was polite check my battery and as I imagine it was no good. When I went inside to pay and have them change find a new battery the this big guy sitting laying in a chair refused to have anyone change my battery. Said it was because of safety of the employees. Apparently the weather was permitting. Mind you it was just flurries outside and it only lasted 10minutes. The floor didn't even get wet and the sun was out. I was just asking him if he was serious because I seriously couldn't believe it. He said it was for the safety of his employees. This was just absolutely ridicules. He seemed too lazy to even speak. I ended going to Advanced Auto Parts where the guy helped me and said the weather was fine and was not a problem and was only about 3blocks down from Autozone. read more

I went into this location and dropped off the battery for my deceased mother's 2003 Toyota Matrix. Just needed to get it charged as the battery is about a year old and the car hasn't been moved because I had an issue with getting the duplicate title from NY DMV. Finally got the title now it's time to register the vehicle and put it on the road. Drop off the battery 11/19/22 and the black male manager told me I could come back in 2 hours. However, my schedule didn't allow me to get back to get it until today, Monday 11/21/22. I arrive at 1pm, after my doctor's appt to pick up the battery. I hand the associate my receipt and they go to look for it. They come back asking when it was dropped off, who I handed it to etc. So it's obvious they can't find it. There is some talking amongst themselves, the Spanish looking lady and the young Spanish looking young man go back to the charging area again and they are looking for it. Then the manager I handed the battery to tells them he had someone else take it to the back. Then everyone goes back to doing other things, the young guy is assisting customers, the heavy set black guy gets back on the phone helping customers who are calling in and the Spanish looking lady goes in the back area behind the counter at the front of the store. After being in the store I finally ask the older lady who's been walking back and forth if someone could tell me something. The black guy abruptly ends the call he's on and begins to recap when the battery was dropped off. I go through the details with him again. He begins to try to tell me that because I didn't pick it up in the 2 hr time frame that it's list and not their responsibility. We go back and forth because I handed it directly to him and he is saying that there's nothing he can do. I repeatedly asked him to call whomever could approve me receiving another battery which he said he couldn't do. I am now pissed off, because he is trying to tell me it's not his fault that they lost my battery, even though it was directly handed to and checked in by him. The Spanish looking female comes from wherever she was in the back and intersects herself into the disagreement. I tell her to please stop because this is between he and I because he is the one who accepted the battery and should be accepting responsibility and providing an acceptable recourse besides hey we lost it, it's not our fault. She starts yelling how she's the store manager and jumps in my face. I chuckle and tell her to get out of my face. Her response is "What the f*ck you gonna do? You gonna hit me ni99a? You gonna hit me? I said "Excuse me? What did you just call me? Repeat what you said. Nah repeat what you said." She said "What ni99a? Nigga? Yeh I said it, get the fuck outta my store ni99a." I told her I'm gonna get a battery and you getting fired." I allowed another customer who was trying to calm me down to guide me out the store. I called the district and regional manager, then text them as I got both of their voice-mail. I then called the Belleville Police Department and reported the incident. After about 15 mins I received a call back from the district manager who agreed with everything I explained and said that Autozone does not condone the store managers behavior and they would be addressing it. She also stated that I would receive a battery, without a warranty as I wasn't actually purchasing the battery, in order to resolve the battery situation, which I agreed to. I would have to sign conforming that I would not receive a warranty, which I also agreed to. While the officers and I were waiting for this to happen, the manager who I had originally given my battery to claimed that they had found the battery. He addressed the officer, claiming that since I had already caused a commotion as if this whole situation was my fault, and asked if they could give the battery to the officer. I received the battery with a sticker which said the battery was "bad." However, when we were in the store the young Spanish looking young man had previously said the battery DID NOT have a "bad" label on it so when he brought it from the charging area he expressly told a co-worker not to touch it. I also overheard them state that the "bad" batteries had already been picked up. I accepted my battery from the Belleville Police Officer, confirmed that I would be following up with my complaint with NJ Consumer Affairs Dept and reporting the racist comments levied by the store manager. I also received a call back from the District Manager and confirmed to her that I most definitely will be following through with my complaint. I will be showing up to the court tomorrow morning to file my complaint with the Belleville Court during their office hours. read more

I come here because it's close to my house. There is one particular guy who is helpful and is totally aware that I'm clueless. I appreciate that he doesn't point it out. I will say their customer service is good, they have checked my battery and even recharged it for free! read more

I received awesome service from a guy named Kevin. Actually his name wasn't Kevin but it sounded like Kevin. Anyways I bought a new duralast car battery that was completely dead. I jumped the car and took it right back to autozone and Kevin tested the bad battery and confirmed the battery was bad. Then he tested a new battery to make sure it was good and installed it. I went to this store recently on a rainy night, asked if they could put the tester on my car to check the charging system, and they refused because they claimed that the rain would ruin their tester (which is complete bull). Needless to say, this store will not get my business in the future. Immediately afterwards, I went to another store (namely Advance Auto) a few blocks away that promptly and gladly put the tester on my car with no mention of rain ruining their tester. Needless to say, that store will get my business in the future. read more

I ended up at Auto Zone today because I was driving around clueless that I had A LOT of lights out. Thankfully, I encountered wonderful Sherman at the register. He was quick to come outside to help me assess the bulbs that needed to be replaced. He also not only helped me to replace the bulbs, but was patient enough to show me how to do it myself moving forward! Sherman is a true gentleman and gave me unparalleled Customer Service. I went there and asked a sales associate questions about supplies they had in the store. For one every answer this kid gave me was "I don't know" with no effort to find the answer. Then he was being completely rude about everything so I dealt with another associate who was slow as molasses. I do not recommend going to this place at all. read more
