Just called to see if I could purchase a particular part from them to help support a brick and mortar rather than an online store. The man who answered the phone told me they have absolutely NO WAY to search for parts by the part number even if give him the official part number from my vehicle. I said I found the part by doing a part search online and he told me to go ahead and buy it at an online retailer. No problem!! I'm fairly new to owning a car, so not real part/maintenance savvy but I'm learning. I noticed some sluggish acceleration the last few days and wanted to replace a part, if needed, to see if it would help bypass needing a mechanic. I asked for the part explaining what I was going to do and April volunteered to go out and look under the hood to see if it needed replacing. We went out into the back parking lot and April determined I didn't need to replace the part. I could also see that the part was still in good condition upon closer inspection. I still will need to take my car into the shop for further diagnostics but the fact that April went out to see if I even needed to make this purchase went above and beyond good customer service! In addition April gave me additional useful information under the hood! Great customer service is old school and getting more rare! Providing it helps retain customers. They want to come back! It's a win/win for the store (revenue) and for the customer (feeling valued)! My work history is in customer service. I take notice to stellar service and very poor service. April provides exceptional stellar customer service and I can only hope that the Manager recognizes what a gem of an employee April is! Great job April! Went in looking for a 2" hitch ball, not realizing that I would need to decide between some other features (shank diameter, etc). One newer employee was attempting to help guide me with my purchase as best he could, but went to try to get help from his "manager" Alex (manager placed in quotations because he certainly was not acting like one). I could hear Alex saying "why the *expletive* did she come in here if she doesn't know what she needs?!" loudly at the front counter while I'm standing in the back aisle. The discussion between them continued for a minute, with Alex continuing to state he couldn't help me, in so many words with occasional additional expletives thrown in. (He was also seemingly preoccupied with turning music on full blast at the front counter? ... forgive me for taking up your time while you're on the clock, sir). The other employee came back to me, clearly embarrassed at his "manager's" behavior, but without any additional information on how to choose a hitch ball. Now, I 100% understand if you don't know about trailers and hitches, but to verbally respond in a rude manner is just so childish and cringe. It was so uncomfortable and unprofessional. I finally picked one after trying to find guidance online. I asked the employee helping me if I could return it unused should it be the wrong size,and he said yes, but "try to do it in the morning" .... because "the managers working during that time would be easier to deal with". What does that mean? I'm going to be hassled about a return later in the day?! I will never go in this store again and would rather drive out of my way should I need to return or exchange this part. One of the main advertisements for this place is that they will look at your check engine light and tell you what code is triggering it. I realized I needed new windshield wipers while driving during the deluge last night, although I arrived near closing time, the staff was so attentive and helpful, and one of the gentlemen even installed my new windshield wipers for me (he was also helping other folks with their car too- what a nice dude!). My car wouldn't start today, it had that click-click no start situation. No power. I Popped the hood and sure enough, the terminals were coated. Gloves, baking soda, goggles and a scrubber ought to do the trick. I didn't have those terminal cleaners so I just let the paste sit. That did the work, but it really shows that I need the protectant spray and a few other tools that would have made this endeavor more efficient. This location had everything I needed. including a fun air horn and protectant. I recommend this place to those that are pretty sure of what they need, they keep their shelves well stocked with what you'll need for everyday issues. I do see how it could be tricky for like 6 people standing in line for help with diagnostics (there's usually no more than like two people) Some of these guys don't know how to help with the engine codes and stuff, so do your homework and get what you need. OR pay a mechanic to do your homework, get parts and do your maintenance/repairs. if you're a complete novice then that might be your best bet. That doesn't mean you can't still get what you need here, I'm just saying that perhaps it's better to just get the final word on what's needed before standing in that line only to buy something you don't actually need. Pros: everything you need, people that can order what they do not have in stock at this location. The staff is usually friendly too. Cons: understaffed (not always, today there were four people on the clock) and they won't always be able to diagnose your car problems. read more

On Saturday, I shared an experience I had in this store with a closed-minded individual who overtly shared his racial discrimination toward one of his customers. I left shocked, angered, and, wrongfully blamed the company as a whole rather than the specific individual. I wrote out an account on Facebook, and followed that up with copying/pasting it here as a review of the company. I also submitted a complaint with the company. Fortunately, I have a few friends to then reasoned with me that I was aiming my feelings at the wrong target. Again, it's with the sales associate, not with the company. I received a call from upper management at Autozone who assured me that discrimination toward customers for any reason is not something they tolerate. I was very relieved to hear that. I know they have some correcting to do, but I'm hopeful they will continue to be a company with whom I can continue to do business. I also hope that employee is coachable. read more

They checked the battery, found it was defective, and helped us install the new one in less than 30 minutes. Turned a frustrating situation into something manageable. This company is completely corrupt. They think they can help and fix major security and safety issues with pizza. The whole in the wall is from the car breaking in and the sensors dot even work because they were shot, and the door was also recently shot. Autozone is a wealthy huge company and they can't even provide security the store for more then a week. Terrible never go there. You'll receive horrible customer service I wouldn't bringing your child. read more

In general, I'm not a fan of Auto Zone the store (overpriced and understaffed). But, I can say that 2 out of the 3 times I've been to this store with "emergency" car issues they were VERY helpful. Trip #1 (last year) had a dead battery. AAA gave me a jump start and I drove to Auto Zone, because it was the only place open late in N. Portland. It's was freezing cold, icy, and pouring down rain. There was only one guy working and he put on his coat gloves walked out to my car removed the old battery and put the new one in. WOW, I was shocked! I had expected to have to do all that myself Trip #2 (a couple months later) driving down the street in the pouring rain and one of my windshield wipers literally just flies off... zing, gone! I pull into Auto Zone, they're really busy and only two guys are working. It's finally my turn. The guys walks over to the rack of wipers, explains the difference between the 3 types that will fit my vehicle, I choose the mid-range (not the cheapest and not the most expensive). Surprisingly, he doesn't try to upsell me (nice). Unlike the super nice guy who installed my battery, I asked this guy if he could help me install the wipers he said "no we aren't allowed to do that, sorry. But don't worry, it's easy." Um ya, okay. What I didn't mention is that I was on my way to a birthday party when this happened, so I was all dressed up with hair and nails done and now I had to go out in the pouring rain and lean over the hood of my huge SUV in a dress and heels. Ya, thanks a lot for your lack of empathy Auto Zone employee. Trip #3 (today) - I needed to add coolant to my radiator, but I didn't have a funnel in my car. I have 3 at home, so I really didn't we want to have to buy another one. Nice guy behind the counter hands me a funnel, smiles and says "no problem, just bring it back in here when you're done." Yay for good friendly customer service :) Auto Zone is overpriced, but the location and hours are convenient. The level of customer service varies among the different employees. read more

The staff at this location went above and beyond after my car wouldn't start in their parking lot. Not only did they help me find out what was wrong, they found the part I needed and eventually connected me with a mechanic that could come out to the store to do the repair the next day (on a Sunday no less). They were so accommodating and welcomed my dog and I into the store while I waited for a ride. What started out as a stressful and frustrating experience ended up as pleasant as it could've been. I don't post yelp reviews, but had to given the quality of their customer service. I will absolutely be back and definitely recommend this location to others. read more

Sadly, I decided to try this shop to pick up windshield wipers. Normally a pretty easy thing to do at a few other places along this street. The place was busy but that is pretty normal for a shoop like this. The first man to help me went to the car and could not figure out how the wipers click off (it's pretty easy). The second man came out and you could tell in two seconds he hated me, his job and that he had to help me out. After snapping at me I decided to drive away and go to another shop. The bummer is this could have been such an easy interaction and instead it turned into a huge bummer for me. As a woman it kind of sucks to go into these places and the staff today doubled down on making this a bad experience. I did give it two stars as it was clean and looked to be well stocked. read more

Ive never been more appalled in my life after the encounter I had with David tonight at your store. I called in to get a battery changed I was told to come in and that I would be taken care of. I get there and here David complaining and talking to another customer like they are trash. Then I explain my situation and he immediately tells me they won't change my battery because they have a truck coming in and the back has to be clear. This was minutes after I was told to come in. He told me the battery change would take a hour which is absolutely not true I've done it in less than 10 minutes. The only reason I didn't do it myself tonight was because I don't have my tools on me. He finally begrudgingly comes and looks at it and in about 5 seconds says we can't do anything for you tonight. Then he starts yelling at some one at the top of his lungs in the parking lot that's walking up to the store. " MOVE YOUR CAR!!!" Keep in mind the car was parked in a parking space and wasn't doing anything illegal. The man he was yelling at was deaf and was signing to him that he couldn't here. Instead of getting a clue David keeps yelling at him and telling him to move. Finally I tell him that man is deaf and he wave's the man inside. I follow and seeing him write a note to man looking visibly upset that said " move your car." Puts it in the man's face and then walks away. I ask again if I'm getting any help tonight and he ignores me and walks away. Is this who you have representing autozone? read more

I would not recommend this Autozone to anyone. They have let me down twice now, both times causing me to waste half my day off scrambling to source items that I desperately needed elsewhere and taking away from valuable time that I had set aside to use actually working on my car. The first time, I went in planning to rent a slide hammer to use to remove wheel bearings. When I worked at a competing auto parts store we kept two or three of these in stock for rental, as with all of the more commonly used tools, so that customers would be able to count on them being available. Apparently this Autozone has only one slide hammer. Now, I could understand if another customer had simply rented it out on this day, but that wasn't the issue. When I came in looking to rent it the tool was still showing as available in the computer, but it couldn't be located on the shelf. So, I have to assume it was either lost somewhere within the store, stolen or borrowed by an employee, or actually rented out to another customer but not checked out properly. The counter guy was totally unapologetic, and he returned from the back of the store so quickly that he clearly didn't look elsewhere for it, rather just saw that it wasn't in it's normal spot and that was good enough for him to tell me I was SOL. The best solution he could offer was to drive to another Autozone, way out of the way, and rent it from them. Um, no. I was so frustrated I just went to Harbor Freight and bought one instead. Incident #2 occurred when I wanted to purchase a front hub. Now, most of the hard parts Autozone sells under their own brands are junk, but oddly enough they do carry Timken bearings, which are very good. After the slide hammer debacle, I called ahead 2 or 3 days in advance of needing the part to make sure it was in stock. It wasn't there at the time, but I was told it'd be sent over from another store the next day. Fast forward to my day off and I'm at Autozone bright and early to get my part so I can get to work installing it. I'll bet you can guess where this is going. It's not there, it was apparently never sent over. Of course, I found this out after a 10+ minute wait in line during which the only other guy working that morning was busy talking to a single customer, clearly a friend of his, about everything in the world -except- for car repair (yeah dude, I speak enough Spanish to know you were BS'ing, not helping him with car parts). And once again the counter guy "helping" me is so beyond unapologetic that I'm actually more stunned at his lack-of-giving-a-shit-about-your-situation attitude than angry. There have been some helpful people here in the past, but I haven't seen any of them recently. It appears that there is a big issue with turnover. That's probably why as of late there are only ever two people working in a store which is always busy. I've come in here at all hours of the day and there are always a few other customers, meaning there is always a wait. Well, I'm done waiting patently just to be told by an indifferent jerk to try another store- I'm just going to go elsewhere to begin with. read more

I went in because my car started to overheat. I was assisted by the store manager Rey, who came out to look under te hood and saw a crack in the radiator (coolant had sprayed everywhere). He advised me to let to he car cool down, buy some JB Weld, add water, and get it home. All of which, he did for me, with the exception of driving my car home. I made it home safely and without issue and am hoping the patch holds until tomorrow morning as I drive it into my mechanic. Even if it doesn't, based on Rey's instruction, I'm pretty sure I can fix it myself to get it there. I went in thinking I would just be purchasing some coolant and adding it myself, but I left with a different experience all together and though I'm not happy about the car issue, I'm extremely happy with the service I received this afternoon. thank you so so much. read more

It doesn't matter that it poured today because I was in awe of my new windshield wipers. I won't mention how bad my old ones were. A hint: I named them Streaky 1 and Streaky 2. I went into Auto Zone over a week ago. I bought some head lights and didn't know how to put the bad boys in. I debated if I should ask for help or not...because I didn't buy them there. I stood there for a few minutes and even though someone asked if I needed help I stood there for a minute. I didn't want to ask for help since I didn't buy them there but Fred Myer wasn't going to help me. I tried for an hour to put them in. I was asked if I needed help finding something and I just asked them. The guy was very kind and helped me get them in in 5 minutes! I noticed the price of the headlights would have cost less if I had went there...and I could have avoided the awkwardness by buying them there. I will go to Fred Myers for groceries but for my car needs I'm going to Auto Zone. read more

This week my car battery died a couple times and I knew it was time for a new one, so I got a jump and headed over to Autozone at Lombard & Fiske. I got there before they opened at 7:30 am to hopefully get it taken care of before I had to be at work downtown at 9. As he was opening the doors and rolling out the mats, Brett was already asking me how he could help. He ran their free battery test and determined the battery did need a replacement, explaining it to me as he went. He had the old one out and the new one in within 10-15 minutes. The new one cost me only ~$100 (there were a number of options for it) and came with a 7-yr warranty (incl. 2 years free replacement) and the installation was free. They threw in the little felt anti-corrosion pads and gel that are usually sold separately as well, and took care of my old battery. After all that, they even let me leave my van parked in their parking lot (I parked it off to the side) all day when I realized I had to catch the bus from there straight to work.
