I've been happy to discover this auto repair shop. This trip was the second repair (unrelated to the first) on a cantankerous mid-70s Chevy pickup. Great honest shop that is open Monday through Friday. The head mechanic Troy has been working on cars for decades and is familiar with all models. He's not always the most skilled on soft skills but a wizard on cars. He always does the job faster than the book quotes it should take and is very upfront and honest about what is up with your car. He will even say go get this part at the store and pop it in or I'll charge you $x. Or your car is not worth fixing cause this will die next. Never before have I ever seen such a freaking honest mechanic. It's kinda freaky. Only downside he's people skills are not the best. He will stay well after the store closes to finish your car ( and I mean 3 or 4 hours) if you say you really need your car back by X. Freaking insane. So if you need an honest opinion on your car, don't want to over pay and get a good job done this is the place! read more

Had just got my son a used car. I was told it needed brakes and oil change when I purchased it.As a woman who knows nothing about cars, I was ready to get charged an arm and a leg because there's always something that's always recommended the car needs. I called around got an idea of the average cost. St John's is closer to work, so decided that was just more convenient and dropped off the car. Troy told my estimate which was what I expected. Went to pick up the car after work. I was ready to tear-off the band aid as I took out my CC when Dan told me my final cost. My mouth dropped and wondered if I heard wrong. I asked him to repeat my total. I asked in disbelief, almost feeling giddy, " Are you sure?" Dan smiled and said yes. Is it possible to be on cloud 9 with your feet on the ground? The answer is YES! Not only did get a great price on all the work they did but they let me keep my arm and my leg I will never go to another auto place as long as Dan and Troy are there. 1999 Jeep wrangler brakes done at a fair price. They showed me my parts for calipers. I thought all was great. Good and honest.

This was a great experience, especially since it was an emergency situation. My car started smoking, and I go by this shop all the time and wasn't far away at the time, so I called them. They told me up front they probably wouldn't get to work on the car until Thursday (it was Tuesday), but they were going to let me bring it in that night, even though it was just about closing time, because they thought I was stranded somewhere with the car. Next, they prepared me for the worst because the usual problem connected with my car's symptoms requires an expensive part that takes several days to arrive. But when they took a look, they discovered I didn't need the expensive part, and they let me know right away. They didn't try to talk me into replacing it anyhow, and they didn't just go ahead with the expensive repair because I wouldn't have known any better. Top all of this off with them giving off an air of competence and reliability. Plus they didn't talk down to me because I'm female. I felt very comfortable there and felt that they were being straightforward with me. I will definitely be giving them my business again. read more

Hands down this is the place to go. Had family who referred us and now I understand why. My wife and I, like many people, avoid going to mechanics to save money. We took our Pontiac in because we thought we were in need of new brakes and belts. We also asked them to look at a window issue and for any other maintenance items that we should have done to prolong the life of the car. We made an appointment and when all was said and done, nothing needed to be done! I've always felt vulnerable bringing in cars to mechanics because I know so little that it'd be easy for them to take advantage. But the folks looked everything over and were honest about not needing anything to be done. I've never heard of a mechanic doing this before! As I said before, my family has taken their cars to this place and have been raving about it. Now I will be too. Wonderful and friendly service. If you've never been then you really need to look past the waiting room conditions. They were recommended to me by the previous owner of the car I drive. So far, the vehicle has mostly required maintenance, but I feel confident to take it in if there were anything more severe, including the one time they replaced some coolant system hoses at a fair price, despite the parts being hard to find. About the only things I wish is that they were closer to where I live, which they can't do anything about, and it would be great if there were any place I could walk to and get coffee, but that's not on them either. Overall, they do great work and Troy is always helpful. read more

I've been to the rest, and St Johns Auto Center is the best! Troy is a master mechanic and has flawlessly replaced worn parts on my vehicle on several occasions. He also saved me a ton of money with an issue to do with my Keyless Ignition System. The Dealership said I needed a whole new wiring harness to fix the issue and wanted to charge $4k for the work! That was damn near the value of the vehicle! I had it towed over to St Johns Auto Center and Troy was able to diagnose the issue and fix it for around $700. And it's stayed fixed! I will use this shop for all my auto repairs and maintenance for this car and beyond. Praise to Troy and the staff! read more

They were amazing! I'm a college student over at UP and was rear-ended right before the end of the semester and needed to make sure my car was still safe to drive home to Seattle. When I called they were able to get me in first thing the next morning. They looked at it as soon as I got there, I didn't have to wait at all. They didn't charge me for taking a look at it and were really honest that it wouldn't be worth getting fixed. Had to take my car back into the dealer due to the check engine light being on. They found a couple wires broken and wanted to charge me $1800 to have it fixed. I called St Johns Auto and spoke with Troy, he set me up with an appointment and I brought my car in. Left it with Dan and in a few hours my car was fixed for $282! The dealer had completely lied to me about the damage and how it was caused. Dan and Troy were very honest, professional and 100% helpful. St Johns Auto was recommended by a friend who knows lots about cars but isn't a mechanic. He told me to talk with Troy. I had an shaky engine problem with a 'check engine' light for a while. I took it to the Ford Dealer and had a few other mechanics look at it over a 12 month period, and no one, not even the dealer, could fix it! Troy diagnosed the problem, and fixed it the next day. It's six months later, my car still runs beautifully. Troy is the nicest and most knowledgeable mechanic. I was so impressed with his ability to explain the problem, fixing the car in a reasonable timeframe, and professional attitude. We lived just a few blocks from this shop for almost 2 years before I really paid it any attention. Then, I had a leak which I was expecting to be a cracked radiator. I brought it in and a few hours later, Troy calls me with the news... Just some coils leaking and no necessary repairs, he even said I could wait it out and it would be okay. I went ahead and got them replaced. This morning, my husband gets in to leave and turns the ignition and all we hear is a click... Argh! I just knew it was the starter. I phoned this shop and Troy told me they were busy and may not get to it until tomorrow... Just as we were heading to rent a car for tomorrow, Troy calls... I prepare myself for what I am expecting to be $350-400 for the starter, or even worse. Ha! It was less than $60 because they found it was simply some cables and bolts near the battery that was causing it to not start. I KNOW that many shops would have just replaced the entire starter to make some extra money! Dan is the owner and I met him today. Great guy! I knew he owned the place along with the little used car lot next door and a body shop in Beaverton. I mentioned that I might need to come see him at the body shop because the dealership told me my hinge in the front door needed to be repaired/replaced-- it was the cause of the door sagging and not closing properly. He said he would take a look and give me a quote now. Well, let me tell you within 10 minutes, he had made some minor adjustments and the door was able to close just fine. I insisted on paying him but he had no intention of charging for it. So I tipped him. All I can say is there is so much to be said in the actions of others. The mechanic business can be a shady line of work, I am thankful for such honest and trustworthy people like those at St. John's Auto Center! A tune up consisting of Only spark plugs and a fuel filter that I had replace myself not 3 months earlier (I use a gas additive to keep the fuel cleaner). Heater core replacement with no temp gauge hooked back up! And the owner is rude and unfriendly. Afte I left this review the owner refunded the cost of tuneup which was very generous. My previous mechanic told me during routine maintenance I needed to replace both rear break pads ASAP as they were dangerously thin--estimating a few hundred $$$ for the job. I had a weird feeling about this and decided to take my Honda to St. John's Auto Center. Troy looked at my car and told me my break pads had 30,000 miles more life and I could wait a few years to replace them. He didn't charge me anything for the diagnosis. This ended up my fourth shop after my accident. Their was no chaos, I had an appointment and almost exactly on the minute he looked up and headed to the entry room. This was meant to be a party hall, this is a great Automotive Mechanic Shop. Troy sent Doug, another upright and respectful mechanic. He was 100% patient. They were willing and able to find the source of an increasing thump to a loud mechanic pop. The source of the problem may be my cost, I was warned before I made the choice for him to proceed; Ethical, Honorable. Troy clearly wanted to be certain, given my state of concussion, that I understood the work may end up something not covered under my MVA insurance. Troy was also endlessly patient, never causing anxiety. My speech difficulties from concussion were never worsened by being pressured, sighs of impatience, eye rolling. If I sounded frustrated he respectfully said, "take your time" as though his time wasn't money-and indeed I know it is. Mature, no physical appearance of alcohol abuse, not a person I could imagine ever gossiping. In St John's that means a lot. read more

I would give St. John's Auto Center five stars for their prices, but the experience and customer service was pretty terrible. I made an appointment for a 100K mile check and I also notified them that my brakes had been squeaking. When I was called later in the afternoon, presumably with the green light to pick up my car, I was told they changed my oil and rotated my tires for free. I had just had these services completed and did not ask to have them done. They threw out oil that would have lasted me an additional 7,000 and put in oil that I will have to replace in approximately 3,500 miles. I asked why they did that, and the person on the phone said those services are free with the 100K mile check, but neither the person I made the appointment with, or the person who I gave my keys to mentioned that. As they do not seem to have a website, I don't understand how I would have known that without one of the employees telling me. If they had, I could have saved them the time, and me money on good oil being wasted. I then inquired about the state of my brakes, they told me that the pad seemed fine, which wasn't really the question. I explained for the third time that my brakes had been squeaking and that the last time they had been squeaking a mechanic did a temporary fix to my rotary. I asked them if they could take a look at the brakes, including the rotary and replace them if that was the issue. They told me they could review the brakes and replace the rotary, but I'd have to leave the car with them until the following afternoon, so I had to cancel evening plans. When I picked the car up the next day I found that they had replaced the rotary and the brake pads, the person I spoke with to get the keys told me that he thought the squeaking was due to improper brake pad material - which begs the question - why replace the rotaries and charge me for a service I didn't need? The prices were the lowest I'd been quoted, but awful customer service from the representatives I engaged with. The person who gave me my keys was the only one who said more than one word in a sentence and explained what had been done. I'd appreciate it if they explained the services and did necessary work only. For example, if after a more thorough review of brakes, they determined the squeaking was due to brake pad material, they should have called to ask if I still wanted the rotary replaced, kind of common sense stuff. read more

I have used them twice now and I feel confident that I have found my new auto repair home. When my BELOVED 1996 Honda was stolen, I was heartbroken. When the police called and said it had been towed to an inpound lot & was not drivable & had been in a wreck I was nervous. I had it towed to Troy & was honest with him, that I couldn't afford to put a lot of money into fixing it up. My priority was to just get it to a drivable state. He did a WONDERFUL job and now I am back on the road. I am as happy as a clam at high tide. Both Dan and Troy are a pleasure to do business with. It is. The folks here are wonderful. They get you in fast, and get the work done faster than expected (and I would much rather be told it will be longer than it will be than be told I'll have my car back before I will). I originally brought my car in to have some deferred maintenance done. Not only did they do what I asked for less money than they estimated, but they also spotted that my fuel lines were potentially close to a dangerous leak, and were able to replace those as well, STILL under the price of the estimate for the work that I had brought it in for. When I brought it back for a follow up a few weeks later (belts were part of the overhaul and needed to be readjusted), I reported a new issue I was having, fully expecting to have to plunk down a couple hundred more. Nope, they found the issue (a broken hose clamp) while they were doing the belt adjustment and fixed it free of charge while they were in there, and while I waited.
